China is stealing our water so as to create a new standard for currency reserves to replace gold and the dollar. More water will give it an excuse to keep the remnimbi artificially high for ever and ever, while the rest of the world goes "dry."
-
Oh my goodness, the plot thickens (or is it "sickens"?). Nestle pumping water from a source that feeds the Great Lakes? Hmmmmm, wonderwhere that "source" is.....And lakes and rivers drying up couldn't possibly have anything to do with climate change? Nah, we all know climate change is a hoax
-
Bin: Thanks! I never can get it to do it that way. Much appreciation!
-
Last time I posted here I thought I was hot over the subject but it turns out I was sick so I haven't been around much. But the antibiotics are starting to work now so I looked in. Hello everyone, nice to see everybody still here.
For those interested in the water issues above here are a few links:
http://waterwars.wordpress.com/2006/12/20/a-brief-history-of-nestles-water-battles-in-michigan/
-
Thanks for the links, RR. Will check them out after I get back from carousing (Friend of DH and wife doing a duo music thing on the beach at 6-10). Glad you are feeling better.
-
River Rat .. so sorry to hear you've been sick .. hopefully you're feeling better now.
Interesting articles on the water war with Nestles. I was impressed with the amount of water they wanted to pump each year. It was an astounding amount.
In 2000, after being turned down in Wisconsin, food giant Nestle moved into Michigan to generate support for high-capacity water wells for its Ice Mountain bottled water brand at the headwaters of the Little Muskegon River. Nestle representatives claimed the company's studies demonstrated that pumping 400 gallons per minute (gpm) - 210 million gallons a year - would not harm the wetlands, stream and lakes.
-
Before Enron croaked they were "using" water futures as one of their scams - what goes around comes around.......

Bren, just a cold that turned into a bacterial thing. I kept trying to let my body fight it but finally caved and got antibiotics so things are improving quickly.
BarbaraA, sounds like a nice evening.
Hey, just found a better link, that maybe more clearly explains the situation:

Looks like the "water" stories are not only old - the Michigan article was from '09 and the Ventura one is laughable and the source is questionable - I think the Chinese are going to have economic problems sooner rather than later and once the U.S. is back on its feet the paranoia should calm down - if only SP and Bachman and the TP would stop with their nonsense, meanwhile a little common sense is in order, IMO.
-
You mean it's nonsense Sandy? hehehehe! Those TPartiers will believe anything if it serves their purpose.
-
Blue:
Don't pick on me (hehehe) my common sense meter is set on high these days - there is so much cr****p on the web and when I see links posted here it makes me NUTS!
Meanwhile I will spend my evening envisioning the tankers filled with water running China's hydro electric system - heck it'll be better than watching Charlie Sheen!

Did I hear correctly. Just caught a few minutes of CNN and one reporter there was very upset that Fox News is reporting that their reporters were used as human shields in Libya, but it was not true. Did I hear right? WTF is going on?
-
Oh, people will believe anything of anything. We have someone on another thread now (the Dr. Weiss/Huff Post article one) saying there is evidence that abortions cause cancer, and she won't let go. Misinformation is so damaging. This one is particularly cruel. A person can say one sentence of poison/untruths, and to undo that sentence takes a million paragraphs. The hurt for others is immense. \
Early stage cancer is like crossing the Mafia and getting away with it. You live, but must forever glance over your shoulder.

Ya I just read that thread.

Here is a nice thing to sleep on. Sunset tonight from the beach bar where DH sat in with some friends and I had a GREAT grilled shrimp dinner with cole slaw and curly fries (yes..I ate them).
-
Oh Barbara....nothing like a Florida sunset. I do miss those.
-
Beautiful sunset! At least we can see it!
I'm having a good laugh tonight. Actually, LMAO! Imagine posting a picture at the expense of the viewers, who cannot see them. That is incredibly hilarious. How can anyone get upset at something they cannot see. <scratching head at the logic>
Stupergenius hehe!
-
Hmmm. China stealing water?? I always thought those huge tankers had to take on water after unloading to maintain 'ballast.' To keep the ships stable. So now our water comes with a 'made in China' label too? LOL!
-
Blue: The Fox News "Human Shield" report was on the news this morning. Seems it's all a lie and other Fox News reporters are furious it was put out like that. They claim nothing of the sort ever happened. I guess Fox must be desperate for more exciting news as if what happened to the Japanese isn't enough to cover! I "had" more respect for them in the past but now.........?
-
The CNN reporter had smoke coming out of his ears last night.
-
Just posting to say 'hi' to all ... and see if I can.
I managed to lock myself out of posting when I tried to change the email address on my member account. Big 'duh' on my part. How do these people manage to make and use several accounts? It's all I can do to not mess up one
Big thanks to Melissa for fixing it if this works!
Beautiful picture Barbara! Hope you don't mind that I copied it to use as a desktop background.

Welcome back Wabbit!! By all means, use it. One of these days I will get the horizon thing straight.
-
Saw this, read the article and listened to the video. Not a Beck fan but this is shocking. Not surprising but still shocking.

Hi all1 been so very busy with work and monsters and ---dare I say it?--KNITTING! that I have not had much time to post. FYI, The knitting is my counterbalence to watching the news and pondering the situation in Japan--makes for a nice stress reliever.
I am befuddled that people don't get that some things are better provided by government. Perhaps it is more "in my face" because I live in what used to be a small city that joined with a bigger city over 100 years ago because as a small city, they couldn't come up with the money to bring electricity and running water into the community. But as part of the big city, the expenses would be less.
The idea of ending mandatory education for k-12 is so very scary. I believe that making sure all the population is educated is in my own selfish best interest--more education, more income, etc etc etc. The person who said that an uneducated populace would only serve as serfs supporting the wealthy has a good point---look at the historical record--only when education becomes widely available do you have more than just really rich people and really poor people.
Great editorial in the NYTs about how the US pays so little to teachers that the people who become teachers are the lowest scoring people in their colleges versus other countries where teachers are highly paid and the best and the brightest have no problem becoming teachers. DH was telling me he read an article that said that right now the educational system of the US is so far behind other countries that the US is only continuing to be on top [with respect to our economy expanding etc] because of our volume of people. Basically we have so many people that even with a failing system we still have lots of really clever people scrambling to produce. But as other countries with a high volume of people continue to modernize and develop amd don't have a failing educational system, we won't have that advantage anymore. . . . ..and then what?
-
Barbara: Thanks so much for posting the link. Unfortunately, I think it will be millions of people sticking their heads in the sand, until the collapse occurs. We can call Beck a nutcase and hope he was wrong but he did warn and warn this was coming. Obama will not do anything about it because it fits in with why he was "put" in office, imo. This does NOT look good for anyone who expected to live in the free country the US once was. This was expected but so many never dreamed it would occur so fast! I don't expect to hear anything about this on our news media. There was a reason they have stayed so quiet while only Fox News tried to scream the truth to us.
-
Wabbit - waving at you! Let me know if you end up seeing The Last Lions.
-
re the link referenced by BarbaraA and Medigal:
for me, its hard to take "news" articles seriously when just below the article is a sponsored link assuring me I can make a return of 390% or more on in 12 months if only I follow their investment advice. . . . .
-
3monstmama: I don't have any such link about the 390% on the page I opened up. But on the internet, you can find all sorts of popups no matter what is on the page. To me either you take it seriously or you don't. There is lots of sand out there for any one who wants to stick their head in it.
-
I guess I'll be one of those with my head in the sand then. I don't believe anything from the Blaze (or Beck). YMMV
Edited to add Beck
-
Might also be a wise move to do a little more research before getting one's exercise by jumping to conclusions based on Beck.
