Whoever reports this doesn't like the word "whoever"
-
And this is it for this hour. Be sure to stay tuned to the nothing posts on the thread about nothing that get removed for nothing.
-
Or like Marybell said -- someone can only report/delete x-number of posts over a period of time. There are enough members to keep the spam reported without only a few using up their allotted reports.
Of course that doesn't help with people having multiple IDs. But then, can't they be weeded out? If someone uses the same computer from the same location isn't the IP address always the same? Or does everyone who uses the same internet provider all have the same IP. I used to know stuff like this...
Or, could the freakin' idiots just stop reporting posts!!!!! That would be the cheap and easy thing to do (biting tongue and fingertips so I don't make an unsavoury joke...).
-
Darn -- I haven't slept for over 30 hours and I'm too worked up to nap now. Pleeease morphine take me awaaaaayyyyyyy....
-
NoModeration, ROFLMAO! Free Blue!! Free Suz!!!
-
NoModeration has certainly got the situation pegged ... in all it's infantile glory ... LOL
I want Suz left alone long enough so I can 'talk' to her. I guess she really scares the crap out of somebody
Maybe she knows too much ... or is too smart for them. Probably both.
Once again: Restrict the use of the Report this Post button somehow + name the 'reporters'
-
konakat, it's not that simple anymore. For one thing, I doubt Melissa and her minions are ready to try to weed people out based on IP addresses. It's not like they operate a big-time "office of information technology" at a large company or academic institution, and can hire half a dozen computer geeks to reprogram things. I suppose they'd like to use the money they bring in for other things -- not just for picking up the toys in the living room.
Another problem is that there no longer is a one-computer, one-IP address relationship. For instance, I don't have cable or DSL or any of that slick stuff available where I live, so I access the internet via one of the satellite systems. The company we have uses a "roving IP address" method that assigns a new IP address each time somebody connects to the system. That way, they don't have to keep a whole bunch of IP addresses idle for people who aren't on line at the time. Or, something like that.
I think the simplest solutions would be to 1) require anyone reporting a post to mark a checkbox indicating which of the "Community Rules" had been violated; 2) automatically publish the name(s) of the reporters in a post immediately following the one that was reported; and 3) not allow "newbies" to report posts at all. Honestly, there are 90,000+ of us now. That's plenty of watchful eyes to pick out and report actual spam, without needing to rely on members who have fewer than 50 posts to their name. If someone is too new to be trusted with unlimited posting privileges, why should she/he be trusted with reporting privileges?
Of course, that wouldn't stop oldtimers from bullying, and then running back behind the walls of their secret fort to laugh about it. But maybe if reporters' names were announced (along with their complaints about the post they'd reported), things would be quieter and more civil.
Wishful thinking, I know. We've been asking for these same changes for a very long time.

Oh well, wishful thinking. Thanks for filling me in Otter -- I didn't realize how complicated it has gotten.

Hi Ladysuz -- Great to see you again! Yes, I remember the old days (not really so long ago) when some people experienced a rash of deletes of posts they didn't like. No rules broken, just trashy actions by intolerant folks.
And now we're going through it again. Anyhow, glad you're back. I'll pm you.
Hugs, Linda

Suz ... I got back here quick enough to see you this time! I am a happy bunny for sure ... hope all is well with you and yours.

This is so terribly unfair to the newly diagnosed women. Someone, or some group is really playing a power game, at all others' expense. I received so many private messages from people (outsiders to this thread) who are so horrified by the energy being wasted to hurt others, when everyone is battling breast cancer.
Our tech team is consulting with law enforcement to see what can be done to stop this person or group of persons from continuing this. It is completely a waste of energy, and hurtful to the innocent people.
On another note, for those of you unhappy with the moderation, and find us too condescending, you may want to consider other boards/Facebook, etc. We are trying to serve those who truly need guidance and support, specifically as it relates to breast cancer. Breastcancer.org is not a place to rant about politics, religion, and the vent your anger on others.
We are doing our best to "clean up" this mess.

A word to all of the newcomers - the deletions are not new and not in response to anybody breaking the rules. The same gang of power hungry deleters existed here years ago and they always delete people and posts they don't like. Like I said in my original deleted posts - same people, same old tired MO.
I try to avoid using words like "always", "all" and "everyone", and I get very incensed when someone misquotes me as having used them because some people want to prove that they aren't included in that group. I've been posting here for awhile, and until yesterday, never had a post removed by the community. When the posts removed yesterday didn't get me banned, there was another flurry of removals early (before 7 AM EST) this morning. It seems like a somewhat different MO to me.
Secondly, all of them have multiple IDs. So, if they come on here and say that, they're lying hypocrites.
I only use the one ID, but obviously someone has a number of them.
-
Thank you Melissa!
-
Perhaps law enforcement will be willing to show them how to do things to fix their computer program to stop this and make BCO a safe environment.
This is cyber bullying and it is against the law.
-
Melissa -- I'm wondering if you mean that all the threads under the "Moving Beyond Cancer" and "Building our Friendships after Cancer" are not worthwhile to posters here and are perhaps thinking of removing them? If you don't want any discussions related to religion, then there are a few threads there that perhaps don't belong either, along with the games and humour threads.
I guess I'm wondering if BCO wants to limit discussions on this site to just cancer and cancer-related problems?
For the record, the only ID I have is this one. The only Post I've ever reported was related to spam and it was so long ago I can't remember when. Melissa knows this for SURE so I'm not worried about being accused of lying.
Thanks Melissa.
-
Thank-you Melissa.
It does seem very strange how things have been going lately. Sure, human nature will result in the occasional reported post that hasn't broken any rules, but so many! Keep the passion but get rid of the poopiness (I love alliteration and this was the best I could do. Oh well...) :-(

Kona - that was Particularly Pleasing.

Melissa.....I'm a relative newby,I haven't posted alot. I came to this thread because of the other thread that was shut down. It was interesting and educational. I only had mastectomies and Arimidex. No chemo, or rads. Supposedly Im 'cured'. When I found the other thread gone I looked for BlueDahlia,BinVA,and others and found Blue's thread with a definite warning. I started rreading it and thought WOW this is it. I enjoy the comrodery(sp), DISCUSSIONS, different opinions of everyone. I was learning a bit about Muslims AND BAM, Eff was deleted. I am a relatively smart person and definitely intelligent enough not to stay or post or delete anything I dont like. I keep wishing these gals who keep deleting would remember what this is posted on and how Blue wrote a description of the rules of this thread. So to the deleters I say PIFFLEFLUFF!!! PLEASE REINSTATE BLUEDAHLIA AND THE OTHERS.
-
Melissa, if you do call law enforcement, they can see which computers were used to report the posts. Doesn't matter how many IP addresses they have, they can't have 10 computers and one will always tie them back to a real posting member. That's how they catch cyber criminals.
-
relative is relative - heh
-
Hey Apple - there's that biting wit! Welcome to the zoo.
-
I agree chevy ... they can take one or more of those 'reports' and track it back to the computer it came from.
-
Just curious....anyone have a clue who deleted all of PatMom's post? And why? I've read everyone of her posts and they did not break any rules.
ANYONE?
-
Welcome to the jungle! Now I have guns'n'roses on my mind. One of the best concerts ever was when I was living in Edmonton and flew to LA to see Living Color, G'n'R and the Rolling Stones in '88 (or 89?)! Axel was in a g-string and chaps. Mmmmm. Mick rode a giant blow-up thingie, unforked. Quite memorable.

I am beyond saddened and shocked (and not in the same way as Melissa) - and using one of my five-post-per-day rations to say so. BCO is not a safe place to be, and those reasons are evident in the cancer-only threads too, where rash deletions also occur, albeit not as frequently. It is the culture of how the place is set up, and what is allowed and not allowed, tacitly or not that makes it unsafe. It is a testament to the superb quality of some of the posters here and on other threads that so many of us stay.
BCO is what it is because of the people who post, for better and for worse. We posters have made it what it is. With all due respect, I think it is disingenuous to recommend that people leave when those very people are the ones who recommend this site to others, some are donors and many also provide the valuable cancer-related advice and support that are the heart of this board. Those who post here also welcome and support others elsewhere; we are also actively in treatment, and some of us are recently diagnosed. We frequently get posts by newbies saying how they enjoy reading us. So there isn't an "us" and "them".
Funny...I spend so much on my time on this thread generally disagreeing with some people HERE and agreeing with other people HERE. Now it feels as though I am defending our whole dysfunctional family against none other than the moderator!
Only one bright spot: congratulations to the WABBIT for your freedom. I see that you have passed your 50-post threshold - yey!
-
Thank you very much Melissa. Your job is one I wouldn't have in a million years (much like having the president's job). You can't keep all the people happy all the time. But I, for one, really appreciate the work you and the other on the tech team at BCO are doing in keeping the boards up and running and safe.
-
I have no idea Shirley. Wished I saved you some jelly beans from last night but they were gone so fast! And I'm paying for it today. Buuuuurrrrp.
-
I'm freeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
-
Second rationed post of the day to welcome back BLUE!!!!!
Now I want to see Eff....
I'd also like to be de-rationed, but de-bannings are better.
