Enjoyful, sorry I missed you. I hope your treatment is going well and that you enjoy the time in SC and that you find the pieces to your vest.

I love the garden talk. It's a welcome diversion from the weather - thinking of spring - ahhhh!

Blue, I haven't read that book but had thought of looking for it. Have you read it?

Hey maybe we could be the Spangled, fascist, hippie scooter gang. I'm honestly laughing at the lack of history one must maintain to lump terms together as is commonly done in some circles.

I haven't read it but the content as described on Amazon is intriguing.

I lost my dinner plate hibiscus last year....hope I don't lose anything else.  My oleanders aren't faring too well in the garage either.

I'll try and find a pic of them in bloom.

Here's a pic of my mom who actually lived through the horrors of fascism.  The fanatics that have lived charmed lives, have no idea what they are talking about.  There's nothing like first hand knowledge.  They offend anyone that suffered during that time, and all the people that died at the hands of the madmen!

Blue, I've never heard of over wintering oleanders in a garage. Is the garage heated? Do you have grow lights?

ooo. Those are beautiful.  Really.  I have lusted over oleanders but worried about having them, and children and now grandchildren.  A nervous nelly, I guess.

Blue .. When living in CA I did without the oleanders.  When my sis and I were kids, our horse got into a bunch of them and died.  So try not to let the puppies get near them.  They do look beautiful next to your front stairs!  Thanks for sharing the picture of your mom .. noticed Ray of Sunshine as well.  I hope your mom is feeling okay.  I remember you posted that she had Alzheimer's.

    Hope you're doing okay too!

    love ya,

    Bren

The oleanders go to sleep during the winter and can endure the cold if sheltered.  In my last house, I had a cold cellar that was perfect temp-wise.  I don't have one here so the garage must do.  They have done well in the past but this winter has been brutal!

Bren, I know how poisonous they are and am very careful with the pups.  So sorry that horse died.

My mom has Alzheimers, but dad is taking care of her.  She still recognizes us but does get confused sometimes about events.  She's 87 and as sweet as sugar!

Love the picture, Blue.  I am sorry about the Alzheimer's.  Nothing to welcome in one's older age, but if nothing else, it does I think remove some of the painful aspects of life that have been harsh.  Nothing else good about it.

We don't have much for flowers here -- way too much shade.  We do have a fair amt. of hosta's here.  I think there are some now that can be out in sun much more so, but since we don't have that much I haven't investigated them.  We could use a major landscaping overhaul in the way of bringing in a few truck loads of dirt and re-enforcing some retaining fence.  No matter the lack of plantings....there is always something in the yard that needs work.  I think we are getting to old to keep up.

Sunny - I agree, the Red Devil was not that difficult for me.  I think the new anti-nausea medication has really helped.  I felt a little off for a few days afterward, but otherwise pretty good (and that was dose dense).  Taxol on the other hand - Ugh.  Extreme bone pain & Neuropathy.

My daffys and tulips are starting to break ground.  This is too weird since we usually have a few feet of snow lying around this time of year.  What if it actually snows and they're already out of the ground??

I guess the Urban Dictionary works both ways:

    Leftist-Fascist

An illogical word created by the Far Right to justify their efforts to suppress free speech in America.  This word is often used without taking political philosophy or ideology into account.  Using this word will convey to others your lack of knowledge on the subject of politics.

    ******

Fascism includes an element of perpetuating the state and race above the individual.  Hmm, anti-abortion laws fit nicely with fascism - need to keep the kids coming for the good of the state.  Anti-immigration - does not promote the race to let outsiders in.  Military strength is supremely important to maintaining the state supremacy - guns over butter - no thoughts for the individual in a fascist society.  Homophobic - does not promote regeneration of the race.  Anti-union - individual rights are discounted in a fascist society.  <<  Those are not liberal philosophies.

Excuse me, today's Republican Party would not be the Republican Party of the 1800's.  They can claim Ted Cruz, Rand Paul, Marco Rubio, Paul Ryan, but please, Lincoln would abhore today's Republican Party.  Heck, Ronald Reagan would be too liberal for today's Republican Party.

sandy - it DID make a huge impression on me Haven't seen Argo, but was very much a "grown up" in 1978, and I also respected President Carter, and happy to say I still do.

Blue, I think Bill Moyers has has Chris on his program, interesting.  I will definitely read it.

Oleander, don't think I've ever seen it, does it have a heavenly smell?  What I DO associate with it is the last scene of Enchanted April, once of my most all time favorite movies...still can see the gardens of that castle.

Speaking of plants - has anyone ever grown plumeria/frangiapani as a houseplant.  I REALLY want to.

I have a HUGE wax hoya, which has too many blooms to count, in summer - secret to that, I've discovered, is borderline neglect.  Finally got a white jasmine to bloom, but FAILED big time with a gardenia.  Love sweet scented flowers, except for those "little white daffodils' - yuck, can't bear that smell.

The movie Argo took a few liberties with the facts. A Canadian documentary made just after that movie came out has interviews with many of the people who actually were involved and tells a more accurate story. It's called Our Man in Tehran.

It's finally a bit cooler, so those other floors are going to get washed this weekend.

I got really pissed off the other day - my car battery decided to die after I took it to the garage for a service, so the service ended up costing me a lot more than planned - there was some other engine cover thing that needed replacing. The battery was 9 years old - they said  they have never seen a battery last so long. I am glad it didn't die on me while I was out somewhere.

Trouble is my car radio now needs resetting and I can't find the security code anywhere (I searched EVERYWHERE!!!) I've now had to book it in to Toyota to get it decoded - they can't do it while you wait - I have to leave it there for 2 hours!!! So, I booked it in for Monday where they have a courtesy coach which will take me to work in the city and pick me up at the end of the day. Luckily they take people to the Post Office and I work right across the road, so some things turn out all right. It's going to cost $67 - not too much thankfully but just bloody annoying to have to go through all of this. When my first battery went, the roadside assist guy managed to change it without disconnecting the power to the radio. This happened to Steve last year and Ford actually kept records of the codes and I was able to go to the dealer and get it for him.

Still lonely without my man, but enjoying not having to cook. He calls every day and sounds like he's missing me a lot - good - serves him right for going off golfing.

Ok - I'm crazy - it is cooler today but the humidity is awful - just vacuumed and washed the polished floors upstairs. I use hot water with metho in it so it will be nice and shiny when it dries. I'll do downstairs tomorrow before it gets too hot. Sitting in front of a fan to cool down.

Shokkster, no one knows!  Predisposition triggered by virus, bacteria, pesticides, etc.  If both husband and wife have it then I would look at environment.  I don't have the Parkin genes but I don't have the BRACA genes either.  Like BC there are many types of Parkinsonism.  My mom has Parkinsonism as part of her Alzheimers.  If we all live long enough, we will all get one type of Parkinson's or another.  I was just lucky...I got it young!

Everything you wanted to know about Parkinson's but were afraid to ask.....

    Good Afternoon Ladies,

Gorgeous day today.  Tim and I traveled to the nearby town of Danville today to get him a new pair of sneakers at JCP.  I am so excited .. I found a LizWear cardigan in a neutral color ... the long style with a deep V-neck and a few buttons, for SIX DOLLARS.  Perfect for spring time and summer.  I love sales and coupons for department stores, especially JCP and Belk.  I like to buy quality when it's marked down .. and wear my clothes for years and years.

And of course we couldn't go to Danville without making a stop at Hobby Lobby.  Picked up a couple of colored pencils.  Tim had never been there before ... OMG ... he loved that store.

Tomorrow while the weather is still great, I'm going to wash the car and get all the salt and cat paw prints off of it.  I don't know what all the cats in the neighborhood have to traipse over my car when all they have to do is walk to the back of the garage and jump up on the cushions for the swing.

Suzie .. I can imagine that you do ache all over.  It took me two full weeks to do my spring cleaning last November.  And we have a very small house.  But it feels so good when it's done!

    (((( Blue ))))

    hugs,

    Bren

Bren - spring cleaning is another matter - this was just basic cleaning. I did take a month off work once and did every room - washed walls etc - I think I am past that now. I am glad it's done and I can relax today - it is going to be hotter. I wish this terrible humidity would go.
