Blinkie as Badger said LM is Les Mills, it's a company based in New Zealand and their programs are all over the world, they have Body Pump which is a weightlifting class, Body Combat - MMA type class, Body Jam and Sh'bam are dance, CX Workx is a core class, Body Flow in the US Body Balance in the rest of the world is a Tai Chi, Pilates, Yoga class, RPM is a bike class and Grit is a HIIT class and Sprint is HIIT on a bike, they are all choreographed with great music and a lot of science behind the class and they launch new choreo every 3 months so for the past 3/4 weeks all the instructors have been learning new releases and today is launch day here so everything is new today.
Mary your MIL sounds like a pistol, Mark has nice weather for the gardening project as temperature is going back up tomorrow, how is Mickey doing? Rooney is holding on, I have to have fluid drained from his stomach every two weeks now. Ruth hope your son is safe where he is in Florida, it sure looks bad, I experienced a hurricane once in the Bahamas it starts out exciting then becomes frightening. LB I pay $12.99 a month, it's a bargain I use it mostly for Sh'bam and I go to the Y near my house and do RPM, we don't have Jam on our system boo hoo but we have LM Dance.
Tonight did Bdy Combat and Body Pump, I can't believe how they keep coming up with new ways to torture I mean challenge us

Hey Lilac, I'm also a former American living in the UK
I did Slimming World and I'm still going to the meetings because I need the support weekly. I love my food and my brain doesn't know when my belly is full. On Slimming World I can eat all the food I want - just not lots of fat and sugar. I had to learn what was high in calories - SW is basically a calorie controlled diet. The first 3-4 months when I was losing weight I walked a few times a week slowly building up my time and then I did the Couch to 5K programme. I still need to have rest days in between each run or I get too tired. Could you tell me more about this spin studio that is only £10 a month please?
NatsFan, good luck on Saturday with your 5K race!!!! I want to run in an organised 5K but my time is still so slow.

Blinkie, oh my, 40 acres is a BIG backyard, so nix that suggestion for now. Hope your medical investigations reveal what the shortness of breath is about. As Mary pointed out, it does get better. Most of us start out flat as a pancake and little by little, as we move, becoming more active, including lengthening of time of ending active treatment, our energy builds as does our desire to be active. It is difficult to convince some that being active is the best and sure way to combat fatigue -- the most common side effect of all cancer treatment. LM is the acronym for Les Mills, as stated above and they do have a online program you can do at home via online. Mary, I'd enjoy that run as well - what an interesting 5k course. Like this project for your husband that his mother has planned.
My sweetest of nextdoor neighbor passed away yesterday. His birthday was on D Day (June 6th) and he turned 21 on Gold Beach in Normandy; lived to tell that tale to the ripe age of 93. Cliff was an amazing man and I'll miss him...he was my very special friend. Anyway, must dash, covering this morning in Folkestone for an instructor who's back has to have a time out.

I lost about 25 pounds over the past two years through walking, going up and down stairs and using the USDA Supertracker to make sure I was eating a balanced diet. I gained 7 pounds back this summer while recovering from surgery and having radiation. & eating some waffles -yum. Before I started experiencing shortness of breath, my weight had started to go back down. My doctors are happy with my body mass index. My original goal was to lose 33 pounds total, so just a few more to go. My goal now also includes exercising to strengthen the bones. Today I speak with the medical oncologist about the shortness of breath. Patience and progress....

LilacBlue - I laughed when I read, "Most of us start out flat as a pancake..." because I wasn't thinking of flat as in on our backs exhausted after treatment but flat as in trainer bra or A cup. "How did she know?" was my first thought and then "Wait, that's not true!" was my second. haha. I pretty much always was an A cup and thought of myself as flat as a pancake, until they started taking divots out of my breasts and I realized that if it happens a third time I will actually be flat as a pancake. Then my A cup started to seem pretty voluptuous. I've never been able to keep something in my cleavage. No such thing on me. Just a space about 2 inches wide.
I envy those of you in England. The BBC has prevented the rest of us from using the i-player to watch BBC tv. BBC America just isn't the same line up. We would happily pay for a license, but it doesn't work that way. Oh well. A nice quality problem to have.

Lifelover - if the only reason that you haven't signed up for a 5K is that you're slow, don't let that stop you. I'm slow as anything. If I can put up a 12:30 minutes per mile pace, I'm happy. And even with a 12:30 pace, I'm never last - there are a lot of people who are even slower than that. In my 50's I finished usually in the middle of my age group, but now that I'm 60 I've actually won 2 medals already this year for 2nd and 3rd place. Races are so much fun - there's something about standing there with all the other runners waiting for the starting gun to go off that's like no other feeling. Before I did races, I thought everyone ran the whole time at a 6 minute pace. I've since found out that people of all ages, shapes, sizes, and speeds run 5Ks, and that there's no shame in walking for a bit if you need to catch your breath (or there's a steep hill!). Find a small community race and just plunge in. I bet you'll enjoy the feeling.
Sweet - glad your DD is safe - I bet you were so thankful when you heard her voice (cranky or not). Karen - quite a puzzle working around the time difference with your daughter! Octo - sounds like you're having a wonderful trip. I love snorkeling. Lilac - I'm sorry about your neighbor. We've just about lost that WWII generation.
My Nationals play the Dodgers this evening in the first game of the baseball division series playoffs - I'll be listening on the radio on my way up to the cabin. Go Nats!! (With apologies to any Dodgers fans out there.)

Hi all! The Villages is in the middle of Florida but closer to the west coast than the east coast. We rarely get a hurricane head on, the last one was 16 years ago. On the fringes we only have had some rain since about 8pm last night which continues. The winds have picked up somewhat in the last hour but it's only about 35 mph. We still prepare, just in case, but most of us are in denial that anything bad can happen. The Villages management did close operations at 5pm yesterday which includes all recreation centers (about 38), sports pools (8), village pools (about 82), entertainment/shopping squares (3), etc. They are all closed today though indoor classes would easily been okay to open today (there are over 2600 different indoor and outdoor activities here every month). Probably the only ones who would have not been able to get to them are any residents who only use their golf carts to get around. There are not many of them as The Villages span 3 counties. Anyway, all is well here. I will use the day for housework and reading.

Thanks Mary, and agree, not many left from WWII. Blinkie, I resemble that remark and you crack me up! I'm a life long size A , even when breast feeding had the smallest breast feeding bra made, and lived in France at the time and that is a small breasted country. I had two small tumors, one back against my chest wall another in the middle surrounded by lakes of DCIS, so no way a lumpectomy was gonna happen. Sporting the smallest left DIEP recon my plastic surgeon has ever made in his 27 year career and no way would I let anyone touch healthy righty. Yay for your spot-on-good BMI! I have been keeping up, but not commenting as just swamped with my nonprofit work as well as starting up a new business with my now-again business partner. Plus a small project. I have been exercising though. I have to in order to fit it all in.
I also want to share a study I didn't qualify for: one for "white coat hypertension". About two months ago, it appeared that I had high blood pressure. I tested high when at my annual physical, and it didn't go down then, nor at my oncology visit immediately following. True, I had run up Capitol Hill to make both appointments so my heart was pounding by the time I got there.
My doctor asked me to check several times over the next couple of weeks, which I did at my local grocery store. I got the same miserable high readings, and I appeared to have Stage 1 hypertension. (However, the high readings could have been due to the fact that I was cursing the blasted machine?) So I started an Ace inhibitor....Lisonopril. This could have killed me, as I am in the .01% of those allergic to the medication. About that time, my home blood pressure monitor arrived. When I went to establish a baseline for the diuretic I was to try next...guess what? I got normal readings. Absolutely stellar.
My next step was to work with a nurse at my health service to validate my findings. I was measuring correctly. All 20 or so of my daily readings are just fine. However, if I do something like dash around the apartment, I will get a high reading. So blood pressure is much more variable than I had thought. I have also learned that I have the heart rate of an athlete.
The study is very interesting. 30% of those who appear to have high blood pressure when tested in the doctors office may not have it at all. The participants will wear a monitor for 24 hours to determine what's what, and how frequent and persistent the BP spikes are. They didn't take me because they already had their answer.
It will be interesting to see how many like me do not need BP medication. I am thrilled not to need it, nor any medication at this point other than the vitamins and daily aspirin I take.
It will be interesting to learn how many others there are like me, and what the new practice guidelines will be for someone whose BP is elevated in a doctor's office, but normal otherwise. And it was interesting to learn more about my own BP and heart rate. - Claire
P.s. One reason I was concerned is that high BP does run in my family. My grandmother died of a stroke and my cousin of a cerebral hemorrhage.

Patoo - glad you're safe and hunkered down.
Claire - I'm also a white coat-er and I also wonder how many people are on hypertensive drugs that don't have to be on them. Did you know that medical procedure calls for the patient to be sitting quietly for at least 5 minutes prior to the test? The patient should be seated in a chair that has a back and the patient's feet should be flat on the floor. During the test, the patient's arm should be at heart level, the patient should not talk during the test, and the proper size cuff must be used. Now, how many of us have had a BP test right after we've walked in from the waiting room, and the test is given while we're sitting on the exam table, with no back support and our feet dangling, and the nurse is asking questions the whole time? The automatic machines are the worst - many times they have them set at the highest level of compression so as to capture those with very high systolic readings. But for the rest of us tightening the cuff to the 200+ level is unnecessary, and often painful. I must be especially sensitive to that pressure as I find most automatic cuffs to be acutely painful, and will no longer allow them to be used on me. What good is a BP reading taken while the patient is almost crying with pain?? As you can tell, this is a bit of a pet peeve for me. OK, off my soapbox.

Thanks for that pep talk NatsFan! I am anywhere from 13:30 to 15:00 per mile but I'm getting stronger - I can feel it. Today I ran a 5K and was running about 13:30 and I was feeling wonderful. I know I'll get faster. There are some local "Park Runs" - 5K's - and I'm definitely going to give that a try later this month.
Thanks for that link LilacBlue. I much rather work out at home mostly because it's cheaper than the pricey gyms around here.

My clinic has big stickers they put on charts that say "retake BP at end of appointment" for anyone who comes in unexpectedly high. When I was in my 40s my weight & BP started to go up. I lost about 30 pounds and down went the BP. It has been in the middle normal range ever since (except when they took it before chemo infusions, and that was definitely situational!!!!!!
). Since I started YOGA, my BP has gone down amazingly and consistently to the nice low end of normal....it's the only thing I am doing differently, so it must be the yoga.
Dance Attack this morning. I now need to touch of trim & then babysit the puppy. Happy Friday!

Hi, Lifelover! Glad you made it over, and great work on the 35 lbs! Ladies, Lifelover and I had the same, somewhat obscure, recon 5+ years ago, and she was my lifeline during those months.
I"m way behind again. Glad everyone is safe in Matthew's path. Wonderland, love the pumpkin. This one is my favorite.
I also sometimes have an increase in blood pressure at the doctor's office - mine can sometimes run into the 130s when I'm there and then next time be 112. The interesting thing is when my husband goes with me, its always normal.
I've had another overly busy work week so I haven't posted the activity I managed to squeeze in. Monday and Wednesday I got in half hour walks. Friday I only did 15 minutes. So this morning I got to the lake and walked 42 minutes. I saw some pretty Autumn flowers that I'll post from my other device

I just signed up for the November Ride in the Rain Challenge sponsored by the large cycling club here. The idea is to get us out cycling during the wettest month of the year. All you have to do to qualify is ride 8 different times and log the rides on their website, whether for errands or a longer ride. Which I usually do anyway.
I started "training" today as is rainy and blustery. Got in 27 miles of easy riding except for the several miles of headwind. Windbreaker is in the dryer as I write this. It felt good to be back on my road bike. Hoping to do 35 miles tomorrow. That will put me totally on track with riding. Plus, I did four 5k runs this past week.
I think it's time to look for a new windbreaker as mine is worn and faded. Something really essential as keeps me reasonably dry too. Think time for hot bath, nap and a spot of tea. Just love this time of year!!!! Just love it. - Claire

I'm happy to report that I managed to walk for 12 minutes without much discomfort. I could have done more but I've paid attention to all the advice to go slowly and to be patient. I was having some shortness of breath and I stopped when I began to cough. If nothing else, it was good for my emotional state to be doing something.
Yesterday I got to talk on the phone with the medical oncologist. He's concerned that I've got some lung damage from radiation and is ordering a breathing test and a scan. He gave me plenty of time and answered all my questions. What a guy!
Next weekend I get to go to a retreat for breast cancer patients. I won't be able to participate in anything too physical, but I am looking forward the getaway.

If it is on the weekend, I may join you for the ride. Actually, I think the whole group should do it, it covers the downtown tour.

Yesterday's exercise - afternoon photo shoot at local State Park with Dd and Bf. Have to catch up on everyone's post and being lazy today. I'm exhausted and need to rest because this weekend is 2-day 30 mile local BC walk which I'm photographing.

Scottie, nice photo. I saw quite a few people doing the same - photographs in the forest preserve-yesterday, a couple, a family with a new baby, and perhaps high school senior. Gorgeous time of year for it.
Blinkie I hope your issues is easily resolvable. As others have said, I was totally trashed after chemo and rads. I couldn't walk up the stairs without stopping and couldn't walk around the block without my legs starting to shake. But I started and continued, and did just a little more each time and now all is well. t was scary though, thinking that might be my permanent condition.
I went for a 40 minute walk this morning down the trail with my dog. Brought him home and was going to go for another walk because its so gorgeous I didn't want to come in. But my friend called and we went to lunch instead! So not only did I not get a double walk in, I gave up my notion to fast today. Tomorrow is another day!

Claire that is very interesting about BP. mine is high and I used to attribute it to the fact I always took the stairs at their office and I used to suffer from headaches - I can give you every tip in the book about how to treat a headache but once I went on the meds no more headaches. LB sorry to hear of your neighbors passing I know how much you will miss him. Lovely photo of your DD Scottie. TH nice that the flowers are still blooming, very pretty. It's hot hot hot here again, ughhhh.
Exercise since I last logged on: Thursday nigh Body Combat and Body Pump, Friday morning Sprint then Friday night drove down to San Diego with 3 other exercise friends for the launch of the new Body Jam, we simly love the young man who teaches down there, he's one of those instructors who has "it" - 6 hours door to door but so worth it. Yesterday Body Combat and this morning did Body Pump, now if only I could stop eating

45 minutes of toning & two puppy walks. DS will fly in at 10:30 so I will be off duty, I will have to borrow her a lot from now on because:
a. I sure gets lots more steps in!
b. I am totally in puppy love!

I did a 30 mile ride today so feel quite virtuous. Gloomy, but no rain. I went out to the farmland, and discovered a squash stand in the field right across from where I parked my car. So came home with two GIANT blue Hubbard squashes....35 lb. in all. Extra credit for hauling up to my place. I will roast and freeze them. Wonderful to have for winter meals.
I also stopped at the veggie stand, and made one more stop about two miles from where I live. Investigated the "Local Honey This Way" sign. The place is close enough to where I live that the honey could be from the same blackberries I was scarfing down a couple of months ago! So came home with a fresh jar. Love to have good honey around.
Below is a picture of the Tomato Pie that I made last night, and as delish as it looks. Fortunately, I have leftovers, so worth the effort.

Claire, delicious pie, TwoHobbies, terrific nature photos and Scottie, lovely portrait. Cheryl, I do miss my kindly, elderly neighbor and yesterday afternoon picked apples in his orchard, baking a apple & plum crumble, in his honor.
Working on a lesson plan for Pink Pilates later and reviewing a new aerobics track for Block Fit. Had a meet-up on Friday with Docs at local surgery and they want the 12 week cancer rehab workshop, so more work towards that this week and perhaps will start early November. Had some time alone this past weekend as son and DH went up north to Leeds Uni open day. It's #3 on the list of unis for DS and a opportunity for them to stay the night with MIL who lives not too far from Leeds. This is my 3 class day, one in morning, one afternoon and one evening, so I'd better jump as I have a bit of in between stuff to start.

LB - thrilled that the local doctors said YES to the exercise rehab workshop. Both for you and especially for the patients. Have you read the Macmillan survey on the benefits of exercise? Something I think might be useful as you approach doctors in the future. Easily downloaded.
Suspect there is nothing like 3 classes in one day to stay fit!
Hoping for a run later today in addition to my other weekday exercises. Feel so much better after getting in some real distance this past weekend. It had been one month since I had done ~60 miles in a single weekend. Really does make a difference. Hoping for some sun today as I suspect there is fresh snow on the mountain peaks. Did my Gettysburg 5K Saturday in the cool drizzle - perfect weather for a run as far as I'm concerned as I hate running in the heat! Took a few minutes to drive around the Battlefield afterwards, but it was pouring rain by then so I didn't stay long. I downloaded a new Gettysburg tour app, so am planning on coming back on a good day to spend some serious time there. One of DH's ancestor's was killed during Pickett's Charge, so we think it will be interesting to walk the path his Division took. Thought of you Badger when I passed Emmitsburg - it was so much fun meeting up with you there a few years ago! Picked up DH from the airport Sunday - his mom is doing much better. He was glad to get out of that California heat!! Cheryl - they had a big family dinner at El Cholo Saturday night to say good-bye to him - I have a vague memory that you knew of El Cholo.

Not much for me last week. C25k workout on Saturday the 1st wiped me right out. I've realized the training plan our instructor is following is just too aggressive for my current fitness level and weight. No worries though. I'm going back to a plan I found online previously that is less aggressive and feel much better about continuing now.
That being said I did week three day 1 this morning and had no problem. Will likely try week 4 workout on Wednesday. At least then I'll still be in the right week # instead of a week behind.
