Love the picture, Mary.
Subbed & got over 8,000 steps because every hour I took a class up a couple flights of stairs to the library! Just got done with 45 minutes of toning & now back out to Menards to look at bathroom stuff.
-
oops, meant Katcar, not Katherine, sorry, Hon!!!
-
Nice picture, Mary. I was a teacher of special needs children for nearly 30 years.
Katcar, sorry about your friends. Life is precious.
Did a 5 mile Leslie Sansone walking/toning class today, washed my car and painted for 5 hours!
Only 9:00 and I am ready for a shower and bed!
-
mysunshine, I taught special needs kids too......I beat you though as I lasted 38 years!
-
Great picture Mary. Ginger there was a girl from my area on 2 prosthetic legs who did the marathon as well, so inspiring, she's a member of a local forum I'm on. Mysunshine my poor car is desperate for a bath, it's on my list for the weekend.
Tonight I went to Zumba but really it doesn't count because I took my Fitbit off to charge and forgot to put it on for the class but at least I had 7500 steps for the day before I took it off and Badger I thought of you today because I got a notification from Fitbit that I had earned my Japan badge, meaning I had walked from here to Japan, in reality I've probably walked there and back because I forget to wear it as often as I put it on!!!!
-
hi all and welcome carolincincy. Great pix everyone, thx for sharing!
Cheryl, congrats on Japan badge and thx for thinking of me. The 12.9 miles I've logged since last post put me over 5,900 miles walked. I'll "arrive" in Japan in another 268 miles. :-)
Saw my doc last week for annual med check (thyroid) and blood panel. All my numbers are good except cholesterol which has shot up since last year. This is a known SE of anastrozole. Will have to redouble exercise efforts and eat cleaner as do not want to go on more meds. Did that happen to any of you and if so did your numbers go back down after you stopped AI's?
-
Mowed my lawn 65 minutes and weeded about 30 minutes. Maybe tomorrow I can do something more fun!
Badger my cholesterol went up almost 30 points on the AI but at least mine is just above 200 so Dr doesn't seem worried and all those ratios still look good. I definitely do not want to add any more meds either.
I've had Prince songs in my head for three days now. Lots of memories therein those songs.
-
Thx TH, mine went from 167 to 212 so not too worried but that's a big jump in a year.
Have to say been extremely stressed out at work, maybe this is a wake up call to slow the heck down. Didn't bring any work home this weekend, got my hair cut this morning, and took a really nice long walk this afternoon when the sun broke through the clouds. It's a pretty night for an evening constitutional..
-
Yoga, went for a walk and house cleaned (yuck). I am watching Purple Rain on MTV right now while doing some paperwork....exciting Saturday night!
-
Ratios are more important than the absolute number with cholesterol. My total is well above 200, but this is with an HDL of 94. I have low triglycerides as well. My doctor isn't worried. My total didn't change much post anastrazole, but my HDL went up 10 points.
High HDL is from all the cycling and also because I enjoy red wine.
Speaking of cycling, I did 35 miles today of my favorite route near here. Got to talk to horses, a couple of outdoor cats, an errant rooster, and a lady pig who I think was bored. She was really quite sweet and came over to the fence to talk to me. We had quite the conversation.
Feeling mellow right now. I had a much needed nap post ride, followed a soak in L'occitane rose bubble bath. Making myself a steak dinner with steak I brought back from my skiing trip a month ago. Lots of local veggies too.
Tomorrow an early ride so I can hit the wine bar and hopefully see my friend Sarah who is in for the week. I miss her, and need to visit her in Cabo. Was too busy last winter to fit in a visit. (Now THAT is really sick!!!)
Tip on cooking the steak. I like to panfry in butter, and I have learned to buy the herb Kerrygold butter from Ireland. Comes out perfect and tastes like you actually WORKED preparing the sauce. I do add ground pepper and tarragon, and then deglaze with sherry. But all this is extremely simple to do.
Only a couple of weeks for the farmers markets to open. I can't wait!!!! (Why I have all the cycling events planned for this summer....something like 6 Metric Centuries, plus cycling to Portland in one direction and Vancouver BC in the other.)
Back to my dinner and getting the steak ready to go. - Claire
-
mmmm steak! I have an hour before mom calls for our weekly chat so will use it to walk. BBL
-
Claire, I use the Kerrygold butter but I've never seen the herb variety. I bet that would be good on other meats too. Your meals always sound delish!
Badger, I was pretty freaked out about the cholesterol jump too, considering I have lost three male relatives to heart disease. I keep a spreadsheet because I'm such a nut! Here at the bottom are various ratios they look at: My cholesterol for years had been in the 170s. Four months after starting anastrazole and 6 months post-chemo, my cholesterol went to 200 and one of my ratios dropped from ideal to "good" - the total cholesterol to HDL. Then the following year, with more exercise, more vitamin D, and more months of eating well, my total cholesterol went to 207, but my HDL increased and triglycerides decreased further, and all my ratios are in the "ideal" range again, so I hope that is more important. BTW, the glucose below 100 is copied from heart disease table. Note the line I copied at the end from a study I saw related to BC.
Desired Cholesterol <200 HDL >50 LDL <130 VLDL <30 Triglycerides <150 Glucose <100 Total Cholesterol to HDL Ratio under 5 good, under 3.5 ideal HDL/LDL Ratio over .3 good, over .4 ideal Triglyceride/HDL good under 4, ideal under 2 The risks of distant metastasis were significantly higher for all other quintiles compared to the lowest glucose quintile (reference <87 mg/dL) -
Oops, when I submit, it doesn't keep the spreadsheet format so I'll try to make it more readable here.
Desired Cholesterol <200
HDL >50
LDL <130
VLDL <30
Triglycerides <150
Glucose <100
Total Cholesterol to HDL Ratio under 5 good, under 3.5 ideal
HDL/LDL Ratio over .3 good, over .4 ideal
Triglyceride/HDL good under 4, ideal under 2
The risks of distant metastasis were significantly higher for all other quintiles compared to the lowest glucose quintile (reference <87 mg/dL)

Claire - glad to know I'm not the only one who has conversations with animals when I run by them!
10k plus steps yesterday at the Nats-Twins game (sorry Ruth) and even made friends with Thomas Jefferson! 10K road race this morning - not my best time but I knew I hadn't trained well for it so I'm pleased that I got out there, did the best I could today, and finished! Planning on doing some Garden n Sculpt while listening to the Nats today then will grill out some burgers. Yum
-
Be proud of running any 10K, Mary, regardless of time! I was thinking that was George Washington. My apologies to Tom.
I did get to do something more fun today, Hubby and I went for a bike ride around a lake south of us and back home. 45 minute ride.
-
We have a newly expanded farmer's market that just reopened. I have to set my schedule to shop and then steam the veggies. Claire. . .I might have to try your recipe with fish (I'm vegetarian).
At the gym feeding the Fitbit Surge. Need to work it hard this week. Going to a concert next Saturday at our favorite amusement park. So 1-night road trip.

Hi everyone! It has been a busy week! My DD had a Birthday party w/ all her girls. She has joined the Fitbit workout group, we gave her the Alta style. I am hoping it will help her be motivated. I worked out 2 times at the gym and 4 times at the trail. It has been great weather here.
-
Thanks ladies for the info on cholesterol, I'm sure to be talking with my doc.
Walked 2.6 miles today, made baked cod with risotto and Brussels sprouts for supper.
Have a great week ahead, everyone!
-
Congrats on the run & on the Nats kicking our butts, Mary. You could have grilled both lunch AND dinner by the time that one got over today,
I did some pilates & went for a walk (half outside & half on the treadmill because there was a crack of thunder and it started pouring down rain half way through. I washed down walls and started to paint the bathroom this afternoon. Even small projects are a lot of work!
-
No time to read from the past two days. I have my EOY meeting with my supervisor tomorrow and need to gather some documents for my "portfolio".
Great walking day today. Did my regular walk this morning before synagogue with my girlfriend which gets about 10K steps. Then this afternoon I walked to my mother's with my daughter...its is about 3 miles or so each way....27+K steps for the day!!! I'm a little sore from all that walking but hopefully I walked off some of the food I ate the past couple days with the 2 Pesach sedars!!
-
Yesterday went to Body Flow and was on the same page as Nats today, I did yard work, weeded the garden, deadheaded roses and trimmed a bush and then grilled a couple of burgers for my dinner, congrats on the run, time isn't everything, you did it, that's the most important thing. Good luck with your meeting tomorrow Karen. Annie hope your DD had a wonderful birthday.
Hope everyone has a great week. -
catching up. Did our 2 mike walk Friday and yesterday. Almost make 10k steps on Fitbit but not quite. Today I did heart rate workout on recumbent bike for 30 minutes and then swam for first time since BMX. Not exactly seam but water walked about 10 laps and then did about 6 laps with kick board. Was a bit nervous about being in public with no protheses but can't wear them yet. Bought a tank suit and a rash guard top at lands end that covered my nasty bits and scars. I realized later no one was probably even looking at me.
-
I think if you present confidence and ease, that is what people will see. Besides 99% of people wearing a bathing suit are worrying about how THEY look.....do I look too fat? too skinny? Do my legs look bow legged? Is fat drooling out of the back? Do my thighs look like the trunk of an elephant? Does my stomach look poofy? Is there enough coverage over the butt? The list continues.......so no, they weren't looking at you!
Off to sub again. Maybe back to Menards after that for more bathroom shopping. Zumba and yoga tonight.
-
Balthus I decided if anyone sees my scars I'll tell them that's from the shark attack! That makes a better story.
-
Ditto what ruthbru said, we tend to think we are the center of attention. Then we are disappointed that people are not paying us any attention (at those times when we want to be seen/recognized). I've found that also true when people don't want to go to the gym because they are out of shape (as my son says, round is a shape!) and think people are looking and talking about them. So, my friends, you are all okay in my book (and that's all that counts). You are working on your health so please don't let it slow you down.
Can't remember what all I did last few days but I know I did something. Today was 50 min water aerobics class then 8-mile bike ride to find out where the bike club meets up for a ride. This week is busy but will try and join them next week.
Night sculpted friends.
-
Thanks all! These are the rash guards - had never heard of them but I felt totally comfortablewearing the one I bought over the Lands End tugless tank. Rash Guards
-
Balthus: Those rash guards are nice! Attactive too.
Ruth: Get ready to be jealous. My dd is in Minneapolis visiting a friend and they are at the Twins game tonight against the Cleveland Indians! They stopped at Prince's Paisley Park today. She's having a blast.
Nats: Love the picture of you and Thomas!
Mowed for 1 and 1/2 hours today. Then walked/ran later. Also worked for an hour getting the garden ready.
-
Here are some pictures dd took at Paisley Park.
-
So nice! Speaking of Prince:
