Let's Post our Daily Exercise

I had a lumpectomy so don't know about reconstruction (but someone who does will chime in). Lymphedema is always a concern so, no matter what you do, you need to start very slowly and work your way carefully into it. I would start with a beginners yoga (which you would want to do anyway) and see how it goes. Do what you can, rest when you need to etc. There are some things I will never be able to do (more due to my lack of flexibility than anything else!), but it has been great for strengthening core, back, my balance etc. and the mental part is wonderful as well.
-
I did Zumba Fitness Live, a 55 minute DVD (worth 6,000 steps). Fun & I thought it interesting that one of my instructors occasionally does two of the songs on it, same choreography and all. She must have learned them during her training & liked them a lot.
-
Ruth, so glad you like the DVDs and getting good use out of them.
GoodbyeGirl, I had bilateral mx but no recon so IDK about that but someone will be along to help.
Please check out this thread, started by our very own NatsFan, with great info from caring people:

I thought you all might enjoy this. North Dakota is on the migration path for many birds (lots of fields, potholes etc. for them to take a break & get some refreshments). This is a picture taken a couple days ago not far from where I live of a mile long (over a million birds) flock of Canadian Geese heading back north for the summer.
-
Wow that is a lot of geese. We have a lot of geese too, and I caught one particular day in November when I had never seen so many geese. It was amazing But to tell the truth, I'm glad when they clear out because that kind of crowd can really mess up a walking path.
Cute little easter egg babies, Badger. I'd like one of those in my easter basket!
Goodbyegirl, there are a lot of free cancer yoga classes available and they modify for you which is great. I took one after chemo and I loved it. Look around your local hospitals, fitness centers, YMCAs and you might find one! There are also good yoga videos on youtube.
DH and I walked on the neighborhood bike trail 40 minutes. I was feeling quite achy and it helped. I feel a little better. Yay! Going to go stretch now.
-
Wow, Ruth, What am amazing sight that must be! One day I want to get to N.D. I have been to Oregon and Washington, but not your area.
-
Ruth: What a picture! Amazing!!!
Welcome Goodbyegirl! I had a DIEP and really can't answer your questions. Someone will chime in. The link Badger sent you has excellent information about LE.
Cheryl: First roses....Ahhhhh...I can smell them for here.
Karen: Thinking about you and your mother.
The only exercise today has been cooking, cleaning, and prepping for my Easter meal for 10 people tomorrow. Luckily dh did most of the cleaning. Hard to believe that 2 little cats can create such furry dust bunnies everywhere! It all starts tomorrow at 1:00 and I still have lots to do in the morning.
Happy Spring, Easter, Beautiful Day to Everyone!
-
Great picture Ruth, I wouldn't want to be on 'poop patrol'.
I had a very busy day, drove out to Riverside and had brunch with some of the girls from the 'Crazy Town' thread then drove down to San Diego to do a secret Body Jam class, well it's no secret now cause the pictures are on Facebook and the drive back from San Diego was horrendous, guess it was Easter traffic. Heidi we did Body Jam 76, it's our new release and some of the moves were 'stolen' from Body Flow and we had tons of fun. -
SoCalLisa this ones for you!!!!
-
Ruth, that picture gave me goose bumps. No pun intended. Sort of reminded me of Alfred Hitchcock's "The Birds." Lovely Easter buns, badger. Nice muscles, Cheryl.
Riding my bike today to the rock climbing gym where DD and DH are headed. Better get my ass out the door soon if I want to catch them before they're done.
-
Cheryl - Looks like you had a great time in San Diego at the class. Fun photo!
Ruth - Thanks for the "winged migration" photo--terrific!
Pattoo - You must be relieved to be moved into your new place. Congrats on getting through the worst of it.
Goodbyegirl - I took a yoga class recently, and it was too advanced for me and where I am right now. My upper body hurt for days afterwards. I do not have the strength and flexibility I used to have, so going slow and easy is the ticket. The link badger provided is a very helpful one, and Ruth is right about starting out with beginner classes.
Karen - We are watching the weather, and I'll let you know when we are headed to Denver. Might be more towards the middle of April now. Put in my 40 minute walk yesterday, and today is my day off.
-
Wow, Ruth, a million geese! We get migratory birds here too, a lot I thought, but it's just a stream feeding into a river of wildlife and ND is at the headwaters.
Walked yesterday p.m. and also this a.m. before heading out to have brunch with mom. She says hi. ♥
-
Wow. . Lots to catch up on in just a few days. Happy belated Birthday Cheryl. Ruth, I get frustrated with the two dozen geese on our lake at times. YIKES!
Goodbyegirl. . .I had BMX with recon and am still trying to get strength back. My pecs don't know which way is up. I had a couple of beginner yoga videos recommended to me and have a new coworker who does some yoga. We have a long day coming up Weds. and plan to try my mostly meditation poses dvd out during breaks. Anything that requires pressure on my shoulders is out for now but I'm going back to swimming next week so we'll see if that gains me some strength.
Had a great but short walk about the azalea trail yesterday. Weather was iffy so we got in and out between rainstorms.

Got up early and did the last of badger's DVDs, Zumba Sculpt & Tone 45 minutes. Fun & they have weighted toning sticks that rattle when you shake them
Cooked and ate so much that I am now in the sweat pants. I don't think I will ever want to eat again (not until about 8 pm anyway).
Hi to your mom, badger. Happy Easter, All!
-
I managed to get in a morning walk, 33 minutes. After cooking and dinner we went for a bike ride, but only got in 19 minutes before the rain started.
Happy Easter, all.
-
Happy Easter!
Today was a beautiful day, we went for a bike ride. Afterwards my DH barbecued. Unfortunately I needed more exercise after lunch, but that didn't happen. I lounged the rest of the day.
-
Did our 40 minute hike this morning, but felt sluggish the whole time and just want to go back to bed :-). But I am watering and gardening and trying to resist that temptation. Maybe it was the over-indulgence over the weekend--had red meat (free-range), which I do not normally eat. Tried to stay away from the sweets but did have homemade rocky road ice cream that was out of this world. Again, not a dairy consumer, so I hope this is why I feel so tired today. Hope to hit the trail with more zest tomorrow and do my upper body exercises.
-
Yoga this morning, and going to Zumba later.
Gosh, katcat, homemade ice cream..... worth the indulgence in my book. Yum!
I will probably feel sluggish until all the leftovers are all eaten up!!!
-
35 minute bike ride followed by a15 minute dog walk.
-
Hi all. Ate too much yesterday and no exercise today as sister had cataract surgery so transported her. Then finally got around to looking at my taxes - OUCH!!!! Other errands tomorrow so not sure if will get any movement.
Just about time to scrape together cash and research flights for San Antonio. October is not far away!
Night sculpted friends.
-
Patoo: Hope you sister is recuperating nicely from her surgery.
My Easter feast was a success which resulted with me eating too much. Yesterday's weather was a tad bit rainy so no exercise for me. Today has been beautiful. I was able to walk/run before attending a night meeting.
-
Really didn't celebrate Easter as my friends DH passed away so just spent the afternoon with her visiting, it was expected but unexpected.
Tonight did Body Pump and Body Jam, I know my muscles are going to feel it tomorrow. -
Cheryl, so for you loss.
Gorgeous day today in Denver. Got 2 great walks in. Lot's of sun and blue sky. Got the cement snow off the from shrubs and they sprung (sp) back up...the snow was weighing them down. Supposed to be in the 60;s again tomorrow and then snow again for Wednesday!!
I'm on spring break this week and really wanted to go hiking in the mountains on Wednesday to my favorite hike near Frisco, CO but I don't want to go with snow predicted so I will just stay in town. DH is out of town tomorrow to Thursday. DD has school...Actually starting today for 3 weeks she is doing her senior internship. She is working in a bio-science lab at the University of Colorado at Denver and she loved it. She said that she could see herself working in a lab after University...she is looking to major in bio-science or bio-medical engineering. Today I cleaned the kitchen cabinets. Tomorrow, I want to go into the crawl space and start cleaning it out...we have taxes way beyond 7 years that need to be shredded...plus I'm sure lots of other stuff to thin out!! If I just do a couple 1/2 hour shifts that will be good. I also have to go see Mom. And of course a couple nice long walks before the weather changes!!
-
hi, it was gorgeous here yesterday so took the afternoon off work. Bought new sneakers and pedometer then took a nice long walk in the sun. What a difference new shoes makes!
patoo, hope your sister recovers quickly. I will need cataract surgery sometime myself. IDK if it's heredity (mom had them) or tamox but it's getting harder to drive at night with headlight glare.
Cheryl, sorry for the loss of your friend's DH.
-
Ski trip was a major success. Warm and sunny, and my hosts made amazing breakfasts. Ate a lot less than normal as all the good places were closed as the end of the season. Plus, someone (literally) torched the great pub where I was planning on having at least one meal.
My longest ski was about 9 miles, and I can feel all the changes in my body from just 3 days of skiing. Not that sore, considering.
No exercise yesterday, other than unloading the car, as got some sort of head and tummy virus. Driving back was quite the challenge, but made it fine. Gorgeous seeing apple orchards in bloom near Wenatchee. I had to smile that some orchards are being converted to hops, as there has been a shortage with the microbrew craze.
The people I stayed with came that close to losing everything in the fires last summer (Twisp WA). The only reason they were spared is that Lake Chelan got socked in with fog one day, so the planes were diverted to douse the Methow Valley fires.
I came back with a freezer full of local meat and of course eggs. Eggs are raised by a local lady in her 80s!
Interesting how few overweight people I saw. They are either doing manual labor, or out hiking/skiing or a combination of the 2. In the winter, the local HS kids play sports on snowshoes!
Now back to reality and work. But so nice to get away. - Claire

Belated Happy Birthday to you Cheryl and sorry for your loss. Goodbyegirl welcome and took me 9 months after reconstruction to do a up dog...don't lose heart, it does come back . Good to read all the activity by everyone and Easter fun. Left over chocolate eggs call to me - hopeless! Now teaching 3 permanent BB classes in two different gyms and cover work coming in too; been busy. Tomorrow vi box as participant, as I need at least 3 cardio classes a week. Let's keep at it!
-
Hope your sister is doing okay, patoo.
Cheryl, so sorry about your friend's DH.
Sounds like a fun trip, Claire.
Hi Lilac. I am with you in the 'hopeless over the chocolate eggs' group. All the candy is now out of the house, so I am forced into goodness.
I did Cardio Sculpt this morning & am soon off to Barre. I did a little 'retail therapy' this afternoon. I am doing a little more subbing now with all the spring activities, people taking their personal days etc. etc. (plus I need to restock my travel funds since I basically spent 2 months being gone/sick/gone/sick). All my semi-dressed up clothes are old, old, old, and I felt the need for a couple new items to jazz things up. It is supposed to rain tomorrow & I hope it does as it is very dry here.
-
Cheryl: Sorry about your friend's dh. You are a good friend.
Claire: Your ski trip sounds fantastic.
LB: I purposely didn't buy any little chocolate eggs for that very reason.
Ruth: You always look jazzy.
Beautiful day - clear sky and 65 degrees. Sat outside to soak up some Vitamin D. Later went for my walk/run. So delightful!
-
Thanks all. My sister is fine. Just has to wear eye covering at night and sunglasses during the day. Next Monday will get the other one done. My older sister had hers done a few years back. I'm probably next as I have baby cataracts so in a couple years will be my turn followed by my brother. Interesting as we all have(had) very bad eyesight wearing glasses since the age of about 3 and now both of them no longer need glasses. Sister has to decide before next surgery to have both eyes farsighted (would need OTC reading glasses), both eyes nearsighted (can't see distance very well) or one of each! I can't imagine having one far and one near - seems weird. Badger, have the surgery as it's no fun driving at night with the glare of oncoming headlights, fog, rain.
Got out and rode my bike about 6 miles today. Went to register for runDisney 5K in November and they had sold out in less than 4 hours. Bummer!
Night sculpted friends.

Up dog??? Aye!!! I heard of a down dog and had just figured that out. And now you tell me there is an up dog?! If I get into yoga, it will be like learning a foreign language.
