Let's Post our Daily Exercise

Life has been so busy. I cannot believe that I am 6 pages behind. I skimmed through it.
Happy Belated Birthday, Ruth. I am glad you are feeling better!
Great job on your swimming and glad you were able to run, Mary.
Patoo- your house sounds great!
Karen- My DD is studying in London this semester. She took a weekend trip to Switzerland and I awoke to a text that she was going paragliding off the side of a mountain. The pictures terrified me but she loved it.
Since the Y near me opened, I have been swimming every other day. I have added a few laps each time and after 3 weeks, I can now swim a mile without stopping! I just love it and it is so good for my lymphedema. On the other days, I try to walk on the treadmill. I actually ran a 5k St Pat's Day race last weekend. I walked the hilly parts but was happy to get through it. I had not run in 4 months so my body definitely felt it!
Everyone I work with has been sick except me. My theory is that the chlorine from the pool is killing any germs that are near me.
We are getting snow tonight but I am hoping we do not get a snow day. I want to be all done with winter.
-
Hi all, and Kay and Twohobbies, boring here also! 40 minute walk in the brisk spring/winter air today around the lake.
-
I am so glad I have company for the "boring" exercise. Hi Rutbru! Happy belated birthday!
Ginger--you make me want to swim. But I really abhor chlorine. When I was at the beach last year, the place had a salt water pool. It was divine.
-
Hi Katcar good to see you again. Ginger glad you're enjoying the Y. Happy Birthday to your DD Karen, lucky you didn't hurt yourself when you fell, as to the snacking - my friend is here from England, he's been here a month and he's lost 21lbs all he's done is stop snacking no more cookies with his cup of tea, no more cakes and he used to have a glass of wine with dinner but he's cut that out too, boring but effectual, and he was laid up for 10 days with gout. Badger hope you find your Pyrex soon, I'll bet it was funny to read some of those newspapers especially seeing the prices things used to be.
Went to U Jam this morning, did a Spin class yesterday and Body Combat on Thursday but I really need to get back to the weight room.
-
Good morning all, walked for 30 mins yesterday. Sunny but chilly, felt good to move.
Found my Pyrex measuring cups - yay! The smallest victories can be the sweetest.
-
Hi HBCheryl! My mother's name was Cheryl--such a pretty name. Amazing weight loss that your friend achieved in such a short time!
It's a holiday here, so just chillin' today--pulling weeds in the garden and pruning. That will be it for my exercise today.
-
Cute picture, katcar!!
I am planning on Zumba and Yoga this evening. I saw two brave robins so it must be spring here, even though it is really cold!
-
Ginger - swimming a mile without stopping - wow! And doing a St. Pats run on top of that - you should feel quite proud of yourself!!! Badger - we're still trying to find stuff from our move last year! We were pretty organized about boxes initially when we moved, but when the flood came and we had to pack everything back up in a hurry, things got all jumbled together in different boxes. Katcar - good to see you! I have a friend who has severe arthritis and water exercise classes really help her, but she has a respiratory reaction to chlorine, so she wears a face mask during her classes. They don't get their faces wet during her class, so it works for her. I never knew before that some people have problems tolerating that chlorine smell.
Five mile run Sunday. I have a conference all day tomorrow in Virginia, and they're feeding us breakfast, lunch, and dinner, so I'm going to have to be careful about eating - those conferences always are full of yummy doughnuts, pastries, etc.
-
Stopping by for a quick moment.
Badger: So glad you found your measuring cups!
katcar; Good to see you again!
Walked/ran this afternoon.
Edited to add: dd's friend's wedding was beautiful and fun. Dd was her Maid of Honor.
-
On Saturday I got out my big hedge shears to do some trimming while Dh, Dd and Ds laid down our nearly 3 tons of river rock on our hill. I lasted abut 30 minutes before I started having nerve pain. Then woke up yesterday in real pain from the tight pecks pulling on all my nerves. Getting really frustrated at my continued limits and refuse to believe my PS when she says they might be permanent.
On the bright side, my coworker and I are really enjoying our 20 minute urban walks on many weekdays. Gotta get those steps.
Karen. . .kudos for your daughter wanting to skydive. I went repelling once as a teen. That experience tells me I could never even go up I the skydiving plane.
Sooo looking forward to my vacation trip in less that two weeks now. Hiking, swimming and hot tubs all the way.

So excited I was as actually able to do 21 laps at the pool. Thought i would never be swimming again with all the pain from the pocket work from exchange. Benn doing a little more each day. Now 8 weeks later its finally getting better. Of course now 9 weeks into anastrozole I am feeling stiff at times and today my shoulder was burning. But I took claritin and am hoping for the best.

Scottie-sorry to hear you are having nerve pain. Sometimes it takes time to heal. I take Gabapentin which I have found really helps me.
PNY- congrats on your swimming. Adding a few laps at a time is a good way to do it!
-
Hello everyone!
Today was back to the grind after a week off. I made it! Even made it to the gym for a workout. I did 45 minutes on the elliptical and called it a day.
Scottie-Sorry to hear about your pain. Hopefully it will pass.
PNY-Swimming 21 laps is great! It is great to get back into a work out.
-
Yea, I felt totally 'normal' today (or as normal as I get anyway
). Fun to exercise & feel good!
-
Cheryl...last summer I travelled and did not snack between meals or at night and I lost about 5 # felt so good. and loved the way I looked. My eating is nervous eating...just need to switch to drinking water instead of eating and then I can slow down on the water. I only gain weight in my belly so I see it plus my clothes are getting tight.....I'd like to loose at least a couple pounds before my b'day in May....of course the last time I wanted to loose weight before a b'day was when I was diagnosed 10 years ago, so I say before what I ask for!!! I lost the weight and then some!!! I just need to not snack late at night or graze all day at work.
Scottie....My son was going to take daughter but he works 8pm - 4 am so sleeps most of the day...His days off are Wed and Thursday and of course that is when she is in school. We thought of her spring break late April but the places only do dives on the week-ends till summer so I get to take her!!!! We were telling someone today she was going to do it and talking about the cost of the video ($100) on top of the $200 dive and she said you HAVE to do the video....DD said she didn't care when I told her but after the conversation this afternoon, I told my husband and we decided we are going to do the video. DD said the only thing she wanted for her b'day was the sky dive so she is contributing her b'day money $106 from her two grandmothers...I reminded her that she said she would use her b'day money so she agreed. Of course her dad and I gave her a gift card to Forever 21 and we paid for her second ear piercing (just one ear). Yes she really is spoiled when I write all we did to celebrated turning 18. But she really is a great kid...she babysits, works in the synagogue Shabbat youth program and is saving money for spending money next year!
Gorgeous weather in Denver today...got into the 70's...after work I put my sandals on. Got 3 walks in today....about 16.5K steps...the best for several weeks. going to be similar weather again tomorrow and then in the 40's and rain/snow on Wednesday...Gotta love the Denver weather!! Rain/snow for the week-end as well.
Badger...glad you found the measuring cups.
PNY...21 laps...wow that is a LOT!
I've had a headache all day today...had one yesterday too...trying to decide if its sinus or a side effect of a new med....so I'm going to go take some ibuprofin and musinex and see if it helps....going to give it a couple more days...if its a side effect, I have to decide if I can live with daily headaches!!!
-
Did Body Jam class tonight. Yay Badger glad you found the Pyrex. Karen your DD sounds like a very sweet girl, yes she should have the video, what a great remembrance of her 'jumping into adulthood'. Scottie sorry you are still having pain, hope you get some relief. Glad you enjoyed the wedding Wonderland. Ruth I know what you mean about the 'normal' tonight as I was dancing I was thinking wow 3 weeks ago I left this class cause I felt like crap and tonight I was 'rockin' it'.
-
Hi all, Up early today....for me! You are all so motivating. Since gertting back from St. Maarten, Imhave been into "house" stuff. Been painting the inside of my house. I get started and just go on. I need to not be so obsessed with getting it done snd get out and do some real exercise!
-
Welcome back, katcar! Karen, your DD sounds like a great kid. Mine is one of those dicey 8th graders Ruth mentioned. We did do some partner yoga last Sunday.
Body Jam last night with weights after and salsa tonight. I need some new dancing shoes or sneakers.
-
I just ordered new shoes two minutes ago. Amazon knows my favorite brand & size. Anytime they go on sale, Amazon sends me an email and I scoop a pair up.......not necessarily a color I like, but if I can get 30% off, I'm happy.
I am going to Cardio Sculpt this morning, and this afternoon I am going to be the Senior High Librarian (I never sub high school, but the librarian called me herself; she could get a last minute doctor's appointment today, but her administration is very mean & said she couldn't go unless she got her own sub). I imagine I should be able to handle the library for half a day, even if it is full of 'big kids'.
-
Hi Wonderland, Natsfan and Heidi and all you other exercise wonders!
Natsfan - I am trying to figure out what kind of face mask your friend wears--like a respirator? Good idea for the aerobics class--I doubt I could swim with one on. I really react to chlorine--esp. my eyes. I hope your conference went well. I allow myself one "treat" a week--orange glazed donut, cinnamon roll or chocolate croissant ;-).
Scottiemom -- I had hoped you'd be coming out of this pain syndrome by now. I am so sorry as you've really had a rough time of it. I wish there were an easy remedy for it.
PNY - Congrats on swimming 21 laps! That's pretty impressive.
Heidi - I miss my salsa dancing! Now that BF is home, we will go back to it.
Annie - Good for you--jumping right back in after a week off.
Karen - I'll be in Denver shortly, so I hope the weather holds! But I am hoping to sneak in a day of skiing while there so hope they get good snow over the weekend.
Ruth - I'd think subbing at a library would be a piece of cake, but I guess you never know with teenagers!
BF and I did a power walk this morning. He needs to do upper body exercises too, so we are going to start doing that together. I am happy about that as I need the motivation.
-
Karen1956. Before I got sick I was swimming 30+ laps several times a week, So I am happy I am on my way Thank G-d.
I guess I could wish you a happy Purim

Beautiful day here. Just returned from my walk/run under a breezy, clear, 66 degrees Carolina Blue Sky. So refreshing.
-
PNY. . .how does Claritin help? Just curious. I take zyrtec but only for allergies. I too am trying to get back into swimming slowly. I was on a swim team and have been lifeguard and WSI certified in my past life. Now I struggle with the breast stroke. I'm guessing butterfly ain't gonna happen but who knows.
Ginger. . .thanks. I've been on Gabapentin since about two months post BMx. Helps with the nerve pain and Tamox side effects. It generally controls the nerve pain as long as I don't do something stupid like trying to use big hedge shears. I refuse to accept my limitations.
At the gym feeding the Fitbit Surge which I love BTW

Had a lot of customers in the library; study hall kids, classes (whose teachers did not accompany their students......geez). The kids were good & I got lots of steps roaming around surin everyone was doing what they were supposed to be doing. Off to Barre in a few minutes.
-
Scottie mom I do the american crawl. When i first went back to the pool i literally thought i would drown. I got into he pool and just started to swim then after the third stroke when I turned my head to the side to take a breath I literally couldn't. I also could not get my body to stand up. The pain was so intense. I stayed under could not give my arms and just figured i would drown.
I finally stood myself up. Then for the next week I literally went to the pool daily and just moved my arms toward and away feeling the water resistance on them. Then a week later I tried to swim and i was able to do 5 laps in 30 + minutes. At this point I am just trying to build myself up. I cannot do very forceful strokes yet but I am determined.
I have been swimming since i was a child but I am nowhere near being on a swim team or being a lifeguard. (my kids are lifeguards and one even teaches lifeguards I just love swimming.
I am trying to do the breaststroke but that is still way too hard. I am able to get halfway across the 25 meter pool I swim in. So not too much of that at all. I guess our pectoral muscles have been filleted. I suggest you start off slow and just do some exercises like pulling and pushing your arms together and apart. Trust e you will feel it in your muscle.
One other thing I was going to try but did not have the coordination. SCOOBER gear Yep use a scooter mask and then you won't have to come up for the breath. Then slowly you can build up your muscle till you are ready to do it without.
Now about the Claritin, When i was going through my four rounds of TC, I was given a self injecting shot of Neulasta after each round. (27 hours after my chemo it would inject automatically) this caused tremendous bone pain. I was told to take Claritin (NOT D) for the five days post chemo to help with the bone pain. It really worked. I once forgot to take it and wow my bones hurt. I figured if it worked then it would help now and i do think it does. Someone told me to have 1/2 cup cottage cheese mixed with a Tablespoon of flaxseed oil. She swears by it BUT then someone sid breast caner and flaxseed oil is not a good combo. Then someone said its just flaxseeds. So now I am just plain scared to try it:) I guess I will discuss with MO when I go next.
-
PNY. . .lol . . .when I first got into the pool last summer I was afraid to let go of the side because I could not even doggie paddle in the dead end. Slow and steady. My pecks just don't like to work anymore and they get mean when I make then.
I may try switching my zyrtec for dh's Claritin for a couple weeks as an experiment. Sometimes it works better on my allergies.

I was doing some planks and Pilates this evening while watching the news. Then I decided the news was getting to me so went for a twenty minute walk for some stress relief.
-
TwoHobbies - That is not boring exercise at all! I kind of forgot about planks--thanks for the reminder ;-). I'll add them back in to my routine. The news was very distressing today :-(.
-
6am swim this morning before school. Did 33laps which is a mile in this pool. I had the whole pool to myself. Just me and the lifeguard. The only stroke I know how to do is freestyle. Hoping to learn some other ones.
The news was very upsetting. DD was in Brussels 10 days ago for a long weekend from studying in London. Thinking about her being that close to everything is frightening. My thoughts are with those affected by it. Just terrible!
-
Ginger...I was in Brussels on a layer last summer....too close for comfort!! I was actually thinking of connecting there again this summer as I enjoyed my brief there. I was in Paris in 2003 but that was so long before the attack in November.
Another gorgeous spring day in Denver today...in the 70's. Got lots of walking in....over 18K steps...My Tuesday school is large so that helps, but I went for 3 walks today. Not sure about tomorrow so glad to be an over achiever today. Its still in the 50's at 10:30 pm, but the weather is changing...rain starting around 2 am and then slow in time for morning rush hour. There are blizzard warnings due to high winds...Denver is only supposed to get 3 to 6 inches of snow by the end of tomorrow....enough to wreck havic!!
Catcar...when do you get to Denver? How long are you here for? Any chance we can meet for coffee? Enjoy your trip, and skiing should be great...the mountains have gotten lots and lots of snow this month. My son is thinking of going up tomorrow if the roads aren't to bad.
I'm supposed to take Mom to a neurologist appt tomorrow afternoon (I'm taking the afternoon off work) but if the weather is bad, I will cancel, not for me but for her. Her mobility has gotten so poor that I need to use the transport wheelchair as the entrance to the elevator and then to the doctor's office is way too far for her with her walker....I haven't tried yet to put Mom's mobility scooter in my car, mostly because I need to take it apart...not to hard if I practice, but I'm afraid it is too heavy for me to lift.
Two days in a row, no snacking after dinner and no wine!! Yeah me!! Sure hope I can keep it up...then stop grazing all day at work when I'm at my desk...If I'm in a classroom no problem, no snacking or stuffing my face!!!
Tomorrow night and Thursday is Purim. I will go hear the Megilla reading (Purim story) tomorrow night and then early before work on Thursday.
