Hi ladies!
Seven years ago, badger, cheryl, patoo and I met up for a long weekend in Minneapolis. We had so much fun that we decided to take a yearly road trip. We've had others who've joined the crew (natsfan, sweetandspecial, Wonderland, NisaVilla to name a few). We have visited Chicago, Washington, DC, drove from LA to San Francisco one year & enjoyed Southern California another, and last fall we went to San Antonio. One of the fun things we do on each trip is to meet up with other BCO sisters who live in that area. For the last several years, badger's mom has graciously allowed us to stay at her time share on our travels. This fall badger's mom sold the time share.....to patoo, who has now invited us to join her for a week in Daytona, Florida!
Here is the 2017 BCO Road Trip information:
Where? Wyndham Ocean Walk Resort, Daytona Beach FL
When? Arrive Sunday, November 5th (check-in 4 pm); 5 nights, departing Friday November 10th.
How? If you fly, Orlando (MCO) Disney and Orlando Sandford are on patoo's way to Daytona-if we coordinate our arrivals, we can possibly rent a van and drive out together.
What? Check out the fun things to do in Daytona, maybe take a day trip to St. Augustine, hopefully meet up with some of the BCO Orlando area ladies for lunch/dinner/fun......
Who? Anyone who likes to visit, laugh, eat, tour.....in other words, have fun! We have a 3 Bedroom Unit, so you also have to be a little flexible and willing to be a little crowded (perhaps sleep on an air mattress or share a bed).
* PM me if you want more information. If you're 'in', PM me your 'real name' and email address & we'll get you added to the 2017 Road Trip group emails. Hope YOU can join in the fun!

Workout tonight
-
KB870 - try a gentle flow or beginners class in yoga. Everyone is in different stages of practice. A good instructor should make accommodations for all participants.
Gentle flow yoga today.

Been gone from here too many days to catch up, I skimmed and thank you all for your caring comments. My friend passed peacefully, and his memorial service was just lovely. Very difficult time, had out of town company for the service, and we all ate and drank too much. Company left Saturday, so the Sunday morning after the service, as I had the last two pieces of pizza for breakfast, I decided that I needed to focus on myself, so threw out the rest of the junk food, and started counting calories and exercise on lose it. Spent time last week and yesterday helping his sister begin to clean out his home. Quite the task. Toward the end of last week I started having indigestion, which I found odd since I was eating pretty well. Friday night I'm watching television with my indigestion, which kind of felt like my heart was beating in my throat, so I googled it, and then I took my pulse and realized my heart is skipping beats. We have a friend who is a PA, I called him and he talked me through everything, and with no other symptoms we decided it was not emergency room worthy, as I guess skipped beats is common and usually not noticeable. Went to the doctor the next day, they did an EKG (normal, as I wasn't skipping beats then), so now I am wearing a houlter monitor for 24 hrs to record my skipped beats. Talked again with the PA friend, and he pointed out the enormous stress I have been under the last several weeks, which might be the cause. Funny, I never think about being stressed, but he's probably right, with the prolonged hospital stay, removal of life support, the service, company, husband in Nepal, taking care of our house and garden while he's gone, cleaning out our friends house. OK, yes, I am stressed. Hubby comes back late Saturday night, driving down to JFK to get him. In the meantime I am continuing to eat well, exercise, and talk with friends about my grief. Lost 1.5 pounds the first week, encouraged by that, but certainly don't feel like my old self again yet.
Ruth, Florida trip sounds intriguing and fun, I will definitely think about that. Have always wanted to meet you ladies face to face! Off to deliver meals on wheels in a bit, lunch for me, then to the doctor to return the houlter monitor. Cold and raw here today, but will try for my walk after the doctor.

Pat, when my mother was so sick and dying, I had exactly those same symptoms. It turned out to be totally caused by stress. Hang in there.

Can't believe that I have been MIA for over a week!!! Just catching up before heading into the office. The bane of my existence recently has been technology....a number of systems updating simultaneously, and of course having re-to learn each one. This affects our outbound emails for the nonprofit, my smartphone, and email programs. Not to mention learning how to do key words for the consulting website which is the other work I do. Or the three events coming up where I manage the back end payment processing.
The SUN is finally out!!!! Just so lovely with the snow still on the lower peaks of the Cascades. The melt out is finally underway following the wettest winter on record. I am behind on my cycling, but did do an easy 15 miles yesterday. I will try to get in another ride this week prior to the metric century I have scheduled for Saturday. Otherwise, I have been doing my walking and at least 3 5k runs per week.
One fun thing I got to do on Saturday (this following a meeting in Bellingham which is a two-hour drive....went with 2 colleagues) was attend an opening for my favorite winery new tasting room not far from where I live. Lovely spot overlooking Chateau St Michele and the fields of the Sammamish River Valley (which is where I cycled last night). You are close to everything, but feel miles and miles away. There is a lovely garden for picnicking and we will be able to bring in food later this season, sit on the lawn, drink some great wine and enjoy the scenery. Wonderful addition to the area.
I also invited myself to go vineyard camping on Naches Heights over Memorial Day weekend. Low key and cheap. It will also give me a chance to cycle near Prosser, one of the great places with breathtaking scenery. I am thinking of upgrading my camping mattress.
More later....as my work day started about an hour ago. - Claire

I'm in for Daytona! I've been on a few of the other trips, and they've been so much fun. If you enjoy good company and lots of laughter, then this is the trip for you. I'm in DC and if anyone in DC or further south wants to carpool, I'll be willing to drive. Thanks for hosting Patoo!!
Hit the fitness center for the first time since surgery! 10 minutes elliptical, 10 minutes on the arm bike, and a slow 10 minute run on the treadmill. Then I did all my PT homework exercises as well. I'm exhausted but it feels good tostart getting back into the swing of things.
-
I'd like to do yoga but I don't know the difference between all the types - vinyasa, ashtanga, etc... I know bikram but I don't want to support a man who is allegedly a serial sex abuser. Is bickram the only hot yoga? Where to begin?
I think I'd do best in a class that focuses on strength and flexibility and less religious chatter. Prefer when poses get mixed up, rather than the same preplanned bikram ones day in and day out. Any advice appreciated ladies!!
-
I attend a yoga studio near my home. No religious chatter at all.If you can find the following classes you may find them very helpful:
- Gentle yoga
- Beginners yoga
- Yin
I'm not ready for more advanced classes and find the ones listed above challenging enough. I personally don't like "hot" yoga classes but others might.
-
Well workout is done and between that and all my running around today doing housework and errands I did over 3 miles worth of walkin
-
A beginner's yoga or a flow yoga would be good. Unless you are experienced hot yoga can be tricky, the heat loosens up your joints & people try things they really shouldn't do & can injure themselves (or so I've been told, I haven't tried it, I HATE to be hot). None of the classes I've gone to have a 'religious' tone; just a 'be open to the world', 'gather energy each other', 'the light in me honors the light in you' stuff.
I walked on the treadmill (because I was watching the news.....yikes), and did 45 minutes of toning with Denise Austin. I also subbed in the 6th grade, which gave me 6,000 steps before even exercising!
-
KB870, rather than a straight yoga class, perhaps at a gym near by, try BodyBalance known as BodyFlow in the US: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NOetzNwKoeM Natsfan, so pleased to read of your recovery moving along, you too Scottie and TW. Pat, stress does sneak up and good to see you posting. Butterfly12 welcome! HeidiHill, DH is in Zurich frequently and someday I'd like to join him and we meet up. He has been in Stockholm this week. Ruth, the upcoming gathering in Daytona reads as fun.
Dashing to get dressed and off to tai chi. Woke to news of FBI firing and convinced the home of the brave has become a banana republic.
Body Balance & Pilates tonight.
-
Calculated all the miles from my workouts so far this month and the total comes out to 7.7 miles that I have done. Not bad!!!!
-
Returned to gym today. A mile on treadmill and assorted weight machines. It feels good to get back on track
-
Here's the Walking/Eating group. We discovered that instead of finding a random person to take our picture while on a walk, you can set your cellphone camera on timer, turn it the selfie way, and take your own group picture. The only downside is that if you set it on a tree branch (for instance), your picture will be a little crooked (like ours is). Yoga tonight.
-
Now my total miles between the walks, workouts and general activity has gone up to almost 10 miles! Starting to track my miles during the week to see if they increase or stay the same
