Getting ready to go workout for 30 minutes
-
My gosh LB I'm sorry your family has been hit again but thank goodness you are able to get ahead of the game, and sounds like his cardiologist is on top of things, not an easy thing to have to go through after all he has been through and we'll be with you in spirit. Heidi that's funny, yes she copied me and when I was at the Nixon Library they had the Nixon women's coats that they wore on Inauguration Day on display, my gosh they were tiny tiny women. KB don't feel, like a wuss you will bounce back and it won't take long as you have kept up all the way through.
Braved the rain this morning and went to Body Pump. -
I have observed something interesting. I lose more weight when I "stroll" rather than my normal "out getting exercise" walking pace. And yet, I have so much trouble slowing down. Yesterday I had forced myself to walk slow because I was fasting and I didn't want to be halfway around the lake and start to get the shakes or something. Normally when I walk I will be up a pound or two the next day, which I always assume is water retention. Lost a half pound yesterday. Hmmm....
Lilac, I hope your husband can get away with just the stents - at least that sounds easier. I have early heart disease in my family - brother, uncle, father died young. So focused on BC that I wonder if I may be neglecting that risk.
I'll be there for the photo when the Obama presidential museum opens up. Cheryl, remember me when you become president. I want to be Secretary of Health and Human Services.
-
An all women cabinet.....that WOULD be progress (especially if it would be us ). Lilac, so sorry about DH's health challenges. For what it's worth, my uncle had stents about 20 years ago and it gave him a whole new lease on life. He is one of the most active and healthy persons I know. It's still cloudy and quite chilly here. I did a bike at the gym this morning and will take a walk to wear off some of the enormous Mexican Dinner I just consumed!!

Great weather day in Denver today...too bad I had to spend so much of the day running errands to get stuff for my daughter!! Tomorrow will be in the 50's then Tuesday in the 30's and snow!! Didn't work on my mid-year..it was on my to do list, but its one of 2 things that did not get checked off. Tomorrow night and Tuesday night will be busy!!
Need to do some baking this week for my DH to take to DD. She keeps adding to her list, but some things are if daddy has room! DH leaves next Sunday morning. It seems like in February, that we are crossing paths more than we are together. He's gone for 11 days to see DD, then a week later I go to San Antonio for a conference the when I get back he has a show!!
Sweet dreams

Thank you so much to those of you who offered support for my DH's recent heart issues discovery. I'm approaching this differently than his stage 2 throat cancer tx in 2013. I know this is treatable, yet the heart medication is having a knock-on effect, to what he has been physically left to deal with after cancer tx - like little saliva and the heart meds are amplifying that and other difficulties. My going on a LM course in London next weekend is not great timing either. It's a freezing fog morning and I begged him not to go into London as he had a difficult night last night to work from home instead, yet off to catch the train. I'm off to write up and print lesson plans for Pink Ribbon Pilates and Pilates class tomorrow. Scripted my 4 tracks for the course and will use a free studio this afternoon to practice. Wrote an email to the White House stating I can no longer trust what comes from it and the press is the only reliable source for information since their stance of adopting lies, aka, alternative facts, even if there are verifiable photos to prove it (thank you US Park Service, muted and soon to be dismantled).
TwoHobbies, it might be a good idea to see a heart specialist and check if you are at risk. Badger, hope you enjoy this first day of your new position. KB870, I would not call you a wuss by any stretch. By actually chilling on the rowing via listening to your body, will not only help your knee, but also assist your immune system by not adding stress, which is so important when in active chemo treatment.

Hi girls!
Just popping in to say hi, so good to "see" all of you! Been increasing my exercise and, of course, scale goes up! WHY? Ha ha! ALWAYS happens. Tomorrow annual mammo, big stressor, so I will slug it out in the gym today and tomorrow, burn off stress! Here's to a great week!

Hi Guys - popping back in after a couple of months. I retired January 1, so December was crazy getting everything documented and ready to transition, and this month I've been mostly sleeping and decompressing. But I'm finally feeling ready to move on, so wanted to check back with all of you. I'm not going to be able to go through a dozens of pages to catch up, but hope all of you are well. I did check out the last page - Badger, did you leave your job? I remember you were in the same spot as I - too many responsibilities and never enough resources allocated. It's soul draining. I've been screaming for years that we need more staff, but of course it fell on deaf ears, and I finally gave up and retired. Sounds like you made the same decision to leave. Best decision I ever made.
I am loving being retired and being able to go to Home Depot and the grocery store in the middle of the day - the stores aren't crowded, and the clerks have time to be friendly and helpful. It's like a whole new world! I started a stretch and tone class - lots of flexibility and strength training, which I need. I'm also hitting the gym most days, starting with a circuit of 12 minute elliptical, 12 minutes bicycle, and 12 minutes dreadmill running, and I'll work up from there. It's kind of nice having only seniors at the gym - no annoying spandex-clad 20-somethings. I need to get back into the swing of things because I've gained almost 10 pounds since I went back on letrozole in September.
Saw La La Land this weekend and loved it. It's an old-fashioned musical, yet as the movie goes on, the characters become fully realized and complex, and by the end you really care about them.
Good luck with the mammo, Kim!

Hi Kim and Mary! Glad to see you here! Hope California and East Coast ladies are all okay with the dreadful weather. It's way too cloudy and cool here in Arizona, but we're having fun anyway. There was a Step Challenge class starting when we went to the gym, so I did that. Wow! It was hard, but I lived to tell the story. Hang in there, Lilac! Good job KB8!

Opps, typing on my phone, which is a challenge.
-
LB: (((hugs to you and especially your Dh)))
Nats: so good to hear from you! Sorry about the conditions you were under before retiring and I'm sure you're much happier now.
Stopping by for a quick Hello. I was able to walk before the last little bit of rain. It's supposed to clear off tonight and be nice and clear for several days.
-
Lilac. . .Prayers for your dh. Hope he can do the stents.
At the gym feeding the Fitbits.

Lilac- thinking of you and your DH. Hard on both of you.
Cheryl for President!! Ruth for Ed Secretary. I like this plan. Who else wants in on this cabinet?
Nice to see you Mary. Glad you are able to enjoy retirement.
I did Zumba sat morning followed by the Women's march in Hartford, CT. 10,000 people and it was amazing! Older DD attended in Boston and younger DD went to Washington, DC. Hard to believe alternative fact is our new reality.
The weather is amping up here. Windy and I hear what sounds likesleet hitting the window.
-
Natsfan/Mary: so glad to see you back here....I am retiring the end of June so appreciate hearing your take on it so far! I am incredibly busy at work right now, going to be a long few months but looking forward to the decompression part.
Finding time to exercise has been a bit of a challenge given the weather (raining too much and too hard to make walking easy) and my work schedule (swimming is my favorite exercise and I belong to a gym with an indoor pool, but there are classes in the pool during the times that would work well for me, and I am more of a fan of doing laps...). Can't wait until I can go to the gym in the middle of the day! In the meantime, however, I am managing: walks in the mall, treadmill, etc. Thank you all for the daily nudge and the inspiration.
-
It finally quit raining here in Arizona. I took a long walk this morning and am now sitting outside blissfully drinking a cup of coffee. The super-fun thing about retirement is the flexibility you have! I think we are going hiking later today.
-
Mary, good to see you back and so chipper! Thanks so much for the support everyone, DH is doing ok and I'm keeping an eye on him and the other eye on what is on my plate. KB870, glad you got a take-away. You women are right, middle of the day at the gym is best if your not into classes (which are mostly held am & late afternoon pm to night where I live).
BB class this morning and Pilates this afternoon.
-
All the marches were amazing and uplifting. Half a million in DC alone, and the police reported that there wasn't a single arrest. That's incredible. When we left for the cabin Friday evening heading northbound on the interstate out of DC, there was a solid line of traffic heading southbound towards DC - very unusual to have heavy traffic going that way in the evening rush. It went on for miles and miles - if you've ever seen the final scene from Field of Dreams with all the car headlights lined up, it looked just like that. We figured later it went on for close to 20 miles. That's when we began to comprehend just how big the march was going to be.
Lilac - I read back a few pages and learned about your DH. You and he have certainly had more than your share of health challenges. Wish I could extend my arms across the pond and give you a big hug.
I love the idea of forming our own Presidential cabinet. Lilac - you have to be ambassador to Great Britain! Claire for Secretary of the Interior of course since she loves the outdoors.
Octo - some weird things about retirement. After my FIL retired, he used to go to the grocery store just about every day. It was a standing family joke that if you couldn't find him at home, then he was sure to be at Ralph's grocery store. Guess what - ever since I retired I find I'm at the grocery store every day. My FIL died last year, but I feel like a bit of him lives on.
Elliptical/bike/dreadmill run today.
-
I shouldn't be political here, but the person nominated for the Secretary of Education is completely unqualified. If you would be willing to call your Senators and ask them to vote against her, I am posting a number (they will probably vote tomorrow so call ASAP, after talking to one, I asked to be patched over to the other, saving myself a call). 1-855-882-6229
-
Here is where we walked today.
-
So gorgeous,Ruth! I agree about the Secretary of Education. It is ridiculous! I have never been a very political person but I seem to be headed in that direction
-
I don't think I'm going for an evening walk tonight....its COLD and damp plus I have too much to do. Still need to do my write up for my mid year which is tomorrow and have very little time to do anything with it tomorrow. The central team of SW and School Psych's (about 8 or 10 of us) have a mid year "retreat" from 8 -12, then my mid year conversation is at 2:30!! Plus DD needs several things for moving to Israel that I need to find for DH to take to her. She needs her middle and high school transcripts, all her old passports, birth certificate and all need to be originals. She needs to prove that she has lived in the US for 7 years!! She's never lived anywhere else for 18+ years!! I only have 1 copy of her birth certificate, so I'm going to print off the form for her to sign to get a couple more copies...Since she is over 18, I can't request it!!!
Well, I best get busy. Sweet dreams...
-
Going to wait until next week to get back to working out. Minor medical procedures take a lot out of me.
-
Hi again,
Mary, congrats on retirement! I just got up to Tahoe yesterday-had mammo, which so far, so good, but will have to wait a couple days for "results". We hopped in the car around 10, got up here and SNOW O RAMA! Was thinking of going skiing, but sad event at Squaw yesterday-one of the ski patrol guys was killed by the explosives he was using to set avalanche control. These are usually young guys with families keeping everyone else safe. They closed the resort out of respect and investigation, of course, but really made me teary to read about it this morning. And then I went to the news…everyday I hope for something positive, but instead it's ban on this, wall on that, disagreement about the election results (that one almost makes me laugh!) WOWZA! Exercise today of some sort, but I'm not sure if it will be skiing or not. I think I may take some pictures instead of this glorious snow. I forgot how much I love this thread and the women on here! XO
Kim

I was very sad, but not surprised, to learn that someone died in an avalanche in those massive snows. One of the surprises in living in the Northwest. We lose several people a year that way. In fact, they close one of my favorite ski trails when things get dicey. The others are very unlikely to be dangerous. That said, there are normally places that are perfectly safe to ski, which is where I stay.
I have a board meeting on Saturday, but hope to go skiing on Sunday, even if it might be rain and not snow. I want to stay fit for my big ski weekend coming up in 2 weeks in celebration of my birthday. I do mostly Nordic, and no danger of avalanches where I am going. The Methow Valley has some of the finest Nordic trails anywhere. I am starting with a section I have never skied before, with panoramic views of the valley. Should be breathtaking.
I love winter and skiing, and this year has been wonderful that way. Hoping that the season continues well into March. I have already been skiing 11 times and would love to double this. Expensive birthday coming up as planning on buying skis on top of the ski trip. Hoping for a sale.
LilacBlue.....glad your husband has things under control. Have been thinking of both of you. I am following your fitness instructor career with great interest as you continue to build your skill set and following. So thrilled where you have taken your breast cancer experience....way beyond "lemonade".
I have the Opera tonight - the ENO (English National Opera) production of La Traviata. I love their productions, and wonder if this will be in English. For those who don't know the work of ENO, they are wonderful and pioneered acting as an integral part of the of the performance working with the Royal Shakespeare Company. I think I have seen most of the (Dr - as also a MD) Jonathan Miller productions.
Need to get it in gear as the day awaits..... - Claire
-
Mary, so nice to see you again. I took a very long hiatus from posting, dealing with family issues, and just came back a couple of weeks ago. It's hard catching up with everyone. I too retired last summer, and love it. Starting to fill my days with things I've wanted to do but never had the time (violin lessons, delivering for meals on wheels). And I'm with you with mid day shopping and gym stuff - it's great!
Oldest son is spending two weeks with us while he takes a class nearby - so nice to have him around. My daughter and her husband are coming up Friday for the weekend, so a mini family reunion, just missing sons wife (she's allergic to cats) and youngest son (who is skiing in the french alps!).
Been pretty faithful to classical stretch every morning, beginning to make some progress with my flexibility. And still getting in my 40 minute walk each day. Yesterday it rained all day so I missed, but the sun is out today so I'm trying to rally the troops to go for a hike. That's another thing about being retired I like, hanging out with friends that have flexible schedules in the daytime instead of at night.
-
thanks for all the updates Everyone. Kim, that is really sad about the ski patrol person. Claire, have a good time at the opera.
It's been beautiful here today, highs in the 70s. But all that's about to change as rain and cold winter comes back. I walked/ran yesterday and today. Felt wonderful
-
Exercise today. . .afternoon walk in 70s weather (#nowinterhere) and time on dreadmill at the gym.

hi Kim & Mary, great to see you again! Yes I started a new job on Mon. Old job was just too much work. I have at least 7 more years to work and couldn't see putting in 60 hours/wk with nothing to show but bony fingers. New job, new challenges, but good ones. Big building to walk about on stretch breaks. Too cold/too slippery to walk outdoors these days.
LB, thinking of you.
Ruth, hope it's OK if I post your pic from our first Sculpted Sisters trip, to Minneapolis, in 2011. RIP MTM.
-
Love the picture of Ruth and MTM. So sad to be loosing all the greats..so many losses in the past year.
It was so cold this morning when I walked that I had to put my snow pants on to walk...it was 10!! It was also cold during my after dinner walk, but okay with leggings. Put my coat on about 5 minutes before I headed out to be sure I was nice and warm. Still a little ice in spots where it never melts, so I've been taking a flash light with me so no surprises. The TV is showing its 15 degrees out, so colder than I thought.
DD face timed me this morning just before I was going to jump in the shower....We talked for almost 1/2 hour...made me miss her. When she called I asked her whats up and she said, I haven't talked to you in awhile. Gotta love that girl.
I called a gf when I started walking and we talked for over 1 1/2 hours.. She is going through a divorce and is really struggling....a lot of listening on my part. Of course when I came back into the house I didn't get anything done....once I realized the time, it was too late to start laundry..and the laundry basket is getting full!
My mid year went well. The central team is supervised by 2 different people and I'm so glad I have the person who is doing my evaluation. We used to be team mates, so I think that helps. I didn't do the right up till lunch time today and it was only partially done, but enough so that was good. For some reason, I was not at all stressed about it, like I usually do.
Can't remember if I told you last night, but my DD's high school transcript has the wrong graduation date.....it said 2017!! So I asked the principal for a corrected copy....Can't believe I didn't notice it before, but to be honest, I probably never looked closely at it!!
Sweet dreams!
