Merry Christmas and Happy Chanukah! I hope everyone has a great holiday and wishes for all things good in 2017
-
Good Morning ladies. Hope you all had a nice holiday weekend. Ours was rather disjointed due to the weather. We had a nice quiet family Christmas Eve, and yesterday managed to get some friends over to help us eat The Turkey Dinner and play some games before we were socked in midafternoon. The storm started out with a pouring icy rain, which switched to snow, and then winds. We are still in blizzard conditions until later today....a good excuse to drink coffee and read a book (me) or take a nap on the couch (DH). I will do some treadmill time & toning & shoveling later on today.
-
More later on my skiing adventure. Highlight was a call from my friends inviting me to Christmas dinner. "Where are you?", they asked. "On my skis in the Cowiche Canyon!!!" So off I went following my ski yesterday. (And after whipping up a batch of hard sauce/brandy butter for the pudding.)
Late evening as didn't get home from dinner until after midnight.
Fave present so far is an LL Bean gift certificate which I have turned into silk long johns, top and bottom. At least 4 years overdue for a replacement as mine are in shreds.
Pudding was a smashing success. Absolutely delish, and we all had a large portion. I am back in the salt mines as have to get ready for a website call in a couple of hours. Plus sneak in a run before the rains descend. I am sharing vicariously. - Claire
-
Looks good.....although I am not that hungry because I have been eating leftovers all day, including half of an apple pie!
-
lol Ruth. Glad you survived the storm.
My sugar free streak has ended. Had dessert the last 2 days at Christmas celebrations. Definitely getting back off it though. Feel much better without it. Did Zumba this morning.
-
Ginger, I went off my no sweets for exactly two days also. Not too bad though. I had a tiny square of fudge and one cookie Christmas Eve. Then Christmas morning I made cinnamon apple french toast casserole, which I have to qualify as a "sweet" since it tastes pretty much like a dessert. Back on the wagon yesterday.
Claire, your spontaneous Christmas dinner invitation sounds fun.
Very funny, Ruth, and so true! I'm glad that we got to "sit this one out" in Chicago. In fact it was 50 here yesterday and we now have bare grass after probably 15 inches of snow in the last weeks. WEIRD weather.
But I took advantage and went for a 50 minute walk/run around the lake. Unfortunately my back does hurt pretty bad today, so I think I learned my lesson. If I'm going to run, I need to do the shorter 20 or 25 minute walk/run, which didn't seem to bother me.
-
TwoHobbies, cinnamon apple french toast casserole - OMG, I'm going to look for that recipe. You have a steely resistance I admire. Ginger, I've eaten more sugar too and feel the effects Clare, I too like you spur of the moment dinner and your flaming Christmas pudding is Tiny Tim spot on. Oh Ruth, your weather is such a winter challenge and you rose beautifully to it.
Wanting to admit here to feeling deflated and disheartened about seeing what is good about upcoming 2017. Trying to use all my mindfulness tools in der old box but can't shake this feeling of impending dread and doom. The week between Christmas & New Years has always for me had a sort of twlight-zoneish feel to it and this year is like the abyss of the apocalypse.
Went to teach a 1-2pm class yesterday and no one booked in so no class (it was Boxing Day and still got paid), today covered at same gym a substitute/cover class at 9:45am with 9 on mats. Stayed afterwards to practice #75 to be launched tomorrow night to my Wednesday night class - good enough to go me thinks.
-
Some toning & went to Zumba class. We still don't know what we are doing after this week, we're in the 'live for today' mode at the moment.
The roads are cleared off (but icy), the power is back on (we never lost ours but some people out in the country were out for 36 hours.....burr). A garage doorman is pounding ice off my garage door right now.....it froze up and the chain snapped (a strong person can still lift it manually; but not me, because it's a double door so is very heavy).
I am not as good as you who are already back on the 'healthy diet bandwagon'......I had leftover mashed potatoes and stuffing for breakfast!!!!!
-
No worries, Ruth. I am headed to the special "local and healthy" supermarket for the fixings for Rillettes de Tours (a divine French terrine). Officially feasting through New Year's Day. Almost balancing with a lot of outdoor activities.
So much planning to do for 2017. Gloomy here, which is why I so appreciate the two days of SUN while on my skiing adventure.
I am greatly looking forward to the New Year. All sorts of things are going great in my life and career. Anticipating more of the same.
So will make sure that I celebrate properly even if I skip the NYE festivities. Because skiing should be fab and best done if it's NOT the "morning after the night before". - Claire
-
Too many leftovers to be fully back on clean eating but I am getting there. I am heading to a water fitness class in the morning. At least I can keep my exercise on track.
-
Claire your picture made me laugh as our pudding was lit and went out so they added more alcohol lit it again and then I got the first pice OMG I got pudding and pure alcohol and not being a drinker it was ughhhhhh but I did eat the cream and we have two more puddings as we had so many visitors from the U.K. that brought puddings with them.
Ruth your weather certainly challenges you, hope you get your gym solution soon, somsad when things like this happen. TH take it easy and rest your back. LB we had so many British visitors for the wedding and Christmas that I have a house full of English chocolates and crisps and cake (we just finished one Dundee cake tonight - I love fruit cake)
I am still crazy busy at work, put in a full day yesterday and 6 hours today and should finish up in 2 or 3 hours tomorrow then I am going to take a few days off. Finally hit the gym tonight and the gym hit back. Went to Grit Strength and CX Works and in Grit Strength as I was doing side jumping squats my right foot got stuck as I landed and I toppled and crashed to the floor and landed on my right arm, right on my elbow crikey it hurt and I saw stars, I am now sitting here icing it and I shall take an Aleve before bed!!! -
I love to see different Christmas traditions. I have never had a Christmas pudding - never even seen one in real life! I can't get through a Christmas without panettone and swedish ginger cookies. This year I did forgo both because I didn't make a trip to the store where I normally get them, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to go get a panettone before this week is out! Trader Joe's has a muffin size one that I could eat and be done with - if there are any left.
What is concept 2, KB?
LB, sorry you are down. I have been similar for the last few weeks - having to work hard to stay in a good mood. I noticed I do much better when I'm off work - note to self.
Oh, Cheryl, that sounds so painful. I hope there's no damage to your elbow. Take care.
I did yoga yesterday hoping it would help my back. Yesterday evening was so painful that I vowed never to run again. This morning it feels a bit better finally.
-
So happy to get to walk with my Wednesday Women this morning (and eat the wonderful brunch hosted by one of the ladies). There was a car show going on at the Civic Center where we walked. We did get permission before we climbed into the back of that pickup.....really we did.....we were quite impressed with ourselves that we were able to hoist ourselves in and back out again without doing any damage to ourselves or the vechile!
-
Step class & pilates.
One caution about rowing, ellipticals, and other machines that have repetitive arm movements. Being mindful of the possibility of LE, I limit the amount of time I spend on them (for me, not more than 30 minutes....my arm starts to feel 'heavy' after that....which makes the red flags start waving in my mind). I am also cautious about the amount of weights I lift. It will be different for everyone, but I don't do more than 10 pounds (at the most); and I worked up to that very, very, very slowly. Better to be safe (safer, anyway) than sorry.

I can't believe tomorrow is the 31st!!!
Having a great time with my daughter. We took an overnight getaway Wednesday and Thursday to Mitzpe Ramon. It is in the Negev, southern and desert part of Israel. Hiked the Ramon crater, which is the largest crater in the world. Two fun days, but far to get to by bus from Jerusalem. I've been a week yesterday but the time is going by so quickly...counting today only 5 full days left. My flight is at noon on the 4th so no real time for anything except to go to the airport.
The weather has been great except for one day of rain. Supposed to be nice rest of trip in Jerusalem. Daughter wanted to go to Tel Aviv on Monday but the forecast there is for rain, so if that continues to be the forecast will have to find another plan. She is going to a lot of her classes but skipping one here and there.
Lots and lots of steps! My fewest number this week was 16K but on day was over 40K! Just wish I could motivate myself to do their exercise beside walking.

Did a 30 minute workout last night. Spent an hour with taking down the tree after bringing down the box for the tree and the crate for the ornaments. Will finish with taking down the rest of the decorations tomorrow. Might do another workout tonight
-
Lovely photo, Karen. Glad you are having a good time.
Here's my exercise since last reporting in. Wednesday I did a 45 minute walk at the mall. Yesterday I did some upper body weights and then I cleaned and Kon-Mari'ed my bathroom. Today I went for a 25 minute walk outside. Its back to winter so it certainly is invigorating! Next, my son and I are going to haul his old bed and mattress out to the curb for pick-up tomorrow.
-
Karen she's with her Momma and so she has a million dollar smile happiness just radiates from her. TH I like those ginger cookies too, who am I kidding I like any kind of cookie Mommy putting things away is a workout in itself and it's something I still have to do.
I am totally exhausted, got up early and went to Sprint, haven't been on a bike in weeks, gosh that seat was hard then had a two hour rest and then went to Les Mills Barre and Body Combat, I am now curled up with a blanket and plan on doing little else today.
-
In addition to taking down my tree and packing away the ornaments I had to take a quick walk to get some milk for dinner tonight. Think with all that activity, I will skip the workout tonight. Planning it for tomorrow instead
-
Last Zumba & some yoga at my old gym.....we shall see what happens now.
Goodness, Karen, if you are getting that many steps, you are more than covered in the exercise area! Enjoy the rest of your stay!
-
great picture Karen! Enjoy the rest of your trip. I have been so busy doing end of the year stuff at work and with holiday stuff, it was two weeks since i did anythig. And i had a first zometa treatment on wednesday. I am still a little off from it, but did get to the gym today. Did the eliptical for 30 minutes. 2 weeks away made such a difference. I need to work back up to it again.
-
Vacation is bad for eating but good for extra exercise.Water fitness class and swimming laps each day this week. Back up to swimming a half mile. Going to Zumba in the morning.
-
Off skiing and then delivering some late Christmas presents to friends. I have not gained weight this holiday so my strategy of getting outside and doing something works once again.
Had the most fun time ever at the wine bar last night. I came with pudding and pate. We had a feast of amazing eats including some amazing jerky. Showed off my vineyard skiing pics.
Trying to figure out what to make with the champagne (splurged for a Treveri Blanc de Noirs) for tonight's dinner. Have a safe and wonderful New Year's Eve!!!! - Claire
-
Went to the gym to do Grit Strength this morning only to find out the class was at 7.30am not 8am as I thought, oh well off to another gym in the chain and did 30 minutes of Body Combat and a special 90 minute Zumba and U Jam mash up class.
Wishing everyone a very Happy and Healthy New Year. -
Been on the low lately because I havedouble ear infections. On drops and oral antibiotic now. Still not better but trying to get over this. So no exercise for me! All I've been doing is laying on the couch because my head woozy making my stomach woozy and of course I can't hear well.
Wishing all of you a wonderful and Happy New Year!!!
-
Wonderland. . .hope the meds kick in soon. I hate ear infections, had a bad double one last month. Rest up.
So my New Year's resolution is to do everything I can to conquer my continued nerve pain from recon. and get back to hiking and hopefully some light weights. My lumbar epidural did wonders for my back and now I have to get walking again. Also I have an appt. with a new recommended PS next month to see what can be done about my neve pain. That may mean another year of PT and hopefully not more surgery but I'll do that if necessary.
Happy New Year all
Scottie

Happy New Year Everyone! May we all have a healthy 2017 filled with family, friends, fun and fitness!
-
I am taking the shorter view. May my sore butt heal soon!!! Icy skiing today, but I got it all in prior to the storm moving in and got down just fine in difficult skiing conditions. Glad to be safe and snug at home. Simple dinner of little luxuries I don't normally get to eat. Early evening. It was a fabulous 2016 for me with lots of adventures and new career achievements. Beyond thrilled to be granted this portion of my life.
See everyone in 2017!!!! - Claire
-
Best wishes for a 2017 filled with good health, prosperity and happiness ❤😀
