Just got an email alert to stay out of the area of a local Islamic Center, they are still looking for the gunman. There goes my trip to the Christmas market...
-
Oh my gosh, what a sad world. Stay safe girls.
-
Karen, our last day is tomorrow. Batten down the hatches, schools are crazy right before a break!
Cheryl, those pictures are so beautiful!
-
Very scary times. stay safe, ladies.
Cheryl- beautiful pictures.
I have not had sugar since Labor Day. At all. Not even as an ingredient in anything. I feel so great without it. Hoping to keep it that way.
We are in school through the 23rd and the kids are CRAZY. I currently have no voice. I feel fine but I guess I have laryngitis. It is impossible to be a preschool teacher with no voice 5 days before Christmas...
-
My voice is going too, try gargling with warm salt water.
Today was lovely (ie 34 degrees, sunny, no wind), so I zoomed over to DS's house and took Stella the Grand-dog for a long walk. She, after being cooped up like the rest of us, was ecstatic so we had a good time. I did a little toning tonight. The grades in my school are divided into houses & tomorrow afternoon, everyone who has all his/her work done, is passing, and doesn't have behavior violations is jumping on a bus and we are going to the movies......plus we have a band concert in the morning; so it will be a wild, fun day....then vacation. And, depending on how fast my friend bounces back from rads, maybe after that I can go back to my leisurely retirement life!!!!

Hi all! I've been a lurker lately - reading posts but nothing much to report for myself on the exercise front 😕
Spent a full 2 weeks + fighting one of the many viral bugs making the rounds this year and finally feeling almost normal. Should have stayed home from work but the bug hit during go-live week on a 3-year project and our project manager's last day was the week before go live. With him out I was tapped to help bring g it across the finish line. More than half our department was already sick anyway, including one guy out with pneumonia that week. Gads.
I seldom get sick with anything more than a little head cold maybe once a year but this thing hit me hard! Started with a tiny bit of throat pain when swallowing and moved to head and chest congestion with LOTS of coughing. I've never experienced projectile expectoration before but I can now vouch for the fact that it does exist (eeeew!!!). Been using DayQuil, NyQuil, Mucinex, etc for over two weeks but finally, finally am feeling like I'm on the back side of it. Am off on vacay this week and work 2.5 days next week.
Luv you all!!
-
Awww Sweet hope you are feeling better and your project launches smoothly. Ruth have fun tomorrow. Ginger you are my hero. Karen wishing you a safe journey and enjoy the time with your DD and hope your Moms move goes without a hitch.
LB it's a 12 week trialing here only at one gym (the new one. 4 minute drive from my house) and at one in San Diego then they will decide on whether to go forward. That being said tonight I did LM Barree, they use BB music (I recognized a couple of the tracks) and it was fun. -
Why am I still up??? My flight is in 6 hours and we are leaving the house at 4:00 am...will probably lay down for a nap as I want to shower since..My checked bag is within the weight limit, about 47#, so coming home it will be quite light as at least half the weight is stuff for my daughter. My carry-on is a little over flowing to take all the home made cookies....I hope they don't care!! I think the plane to Chicago is a little one. I took a grocery plastic bag to put the cookies in so it will look like my food for the trip, but I can put my coat over my arm.
When I pulled up to my Tuesday school, I was told that the principal cancelled school for today and tomorrow due to a virus going around....so the kids got a head start on winter vacation. Not sure what the regular staff did, but I enjoyed a day of catching up on paperwork, but not quite caught up...oh well it will get done in 2017..its mostly the medicaid billing....I only have a few kids left to do.,
Well I'm off to nap....All packed and ready to go.....Daughter is SO EXCITED..she sent me so many texts about the weather, what I should bring, did I need anything at the store etc. Love that girl. Can't wait to hug her!!
I'll probably check in tomorrow during my layover in Chicago as I think its a couple hours..
-
Karen, have a terrific visit with your daughter. Ruth hope you feel better quick, especially your voice, you too Ginger and Lisa. Cheryl, as you know it's different here regarding LM training than in US. Yoga and barre fly under the non-regulation wire. There is a heated ongoing UK controversy over yoga, being that it is has remained unregulated, with 3 main bodies who do offer qualifications: YMCA, Yoga Alliance UK and British Wheel of Yoga. The YA-UK camp would love to do away with the YMCA qualification, they think it is crap but it's the cheapest and quickest. Yoga teacher training has become big business and many fly off to India to do a one month intensive YA course (many of these India " yoga training schools" are a posh long holiday/vacation with nicely kitted-out single rooms and board inc.wifi and some rather skint and basic) to fast track and with air fare, it about the same as doing it the long way. Barre falls under Pilates or dance training and really has not taken off outside of London as most gyms don't have an installed barre hence, LM has a way forward and cojones to call it barre when no barre is involved. I can see that as problematic just in advertising but who knows? HeidiHill, the Zurich mosque shooting is a sad story and unlike our president-elect, you and I do take heed to reported US intelligence. I'm safe here in the hinterlands of Kent or at least I feel I am. Off to the tai chi Christmas party in a bit and BB class tonight. Took yesterday off - more shopping (my boy turns 18 on Friday and today is his last day of school), did not go and practice and feel better this am for it.
-
Sweet, yikes! Hope you are recuperated enough to enjoy the holidays!
Karen, how nice of all those kids to get sick & give you some bonus time! Safe travels. I don't think I need to say 'have fun'
.
Lilac, I feel fine. I am just losing my voice from talking continuously (think of the teacher in the old Charlie Brown shows who went on and on & all the kids heard was 'blah, blah, blah, blah......").
Here's a little 'winter' humor to start the day:
-
my BIL, now passed, was from Gujarat. He always claimed that the best cooks in India are from that region. If they are all as great of cooks as he was, it must be true!
Winding up work before we shut down for the holidays. I feel like talking on the phone is my exercise, though I have been keeping up on the swimming. Bring on the holidays!

First flight done. 4 hour layover in Chicago then flight to Toronto with one hour layover and the the long flight to Tel Aviv. Jerusalem is about an hour ride from the airport. My daughter is beyond excited. Less than 24 hours now till I get to hug her😀
Night quite a 3 hour nap last night! Slept most of the flight from Denver to Chicago. Will definitely sleep on the long flight!
Finishing a granola bar and apple and go for another walk. Found one of those carts so I don't have to break my back with my carry on. It's a LeSport Sac duffle bag, no wheels so good for Spirit my Chicago Denver last leg of trip home.
Everyone have a great day

A very busy and fun 'last day before break' day at school, and an hour of toning tonight. I need to kick it into 'GET READY FOR CHRISTMAS' gear tomorrow!
-
Interesting new report regarding weights and resistance reducing the risk and progression of lymphedema: http://www.curetoday.com/articles/breast-cancer-survivors-may-knock-out-lymphedema-by-weightlifting
-
That study said exactly what my GP said when I was trying to figure out exercise during/after treatment (he was so smart, caring, willing to do extra research.....I was completed depressed when he retired.......still am ).
Here is my schedule for today: My fitness center is only open until the end of next week & has already cut off classes, but one of the instructors is going to informally have a POUND class this morning, so (since I can) I am definitely going. Then I'm having coffee with some of my Walking Wednesday Women (whom I've missed so much from doing my subbing assignment), and then off to a much needed hair appointment, and if it is nice enough out after that maybe grab the grand-dog for a walk and then buy groceries from a long, long, long grocery list and clean the house. Yikes, scrambling towards Christmas!
-
I also read the lymphedema article with interest as I started back lifting weights about 5 weeks post surgery, as soon as the drain came out. I am still lifting. Handy for lugging groceries and things such as putting up the 35lb tree.
I actually know the Director of Patient Education for CURE through my nonprofit work, and so I sent him a Thank You email yesterday. One of the things he does is plan active excursions for cancer patients/survivors. This is to get their minds out of their disease through the experience of a lifetime. They make accommodations for patients who can't be quite that active.
My arms get a good workout cycling (staying upright on bicycle plus when I get on) and certainly when I am skiing. I can't wait to have them feel sculpted again. Not the same with walking and running, even with lifting.
Good luck with Christmas, Ruth!!! Yes, get the hair done first. The rest will fall into place. - Claire
-
Ruth best wishes in finding a new gym. Karen enjoy your trip and visit with your daughter.
Lilac thanks for posting the article. I was banned from any weights in August due to LE developing. Since them I have been on the LE gluten-free anti-inflammatory diet and the LE is gone. Both OB and BS have confirmed that I have no more swelling although only my regular PT has said it's okay to restart weights. I'm doing light weights again and wish I had never stopped. This article supports that theory.
Had my lumbar epidural this morning. By next week I'll be back in the gym. Yeah!

I also feel I'm rushing towards Christmas. In the midst of it all, other life chores don't stop so its been a schedule of two tasks after work all week. We have half a day of work tomorrow and then off to the grocery store and bank. Christmas Eve I'm actually getting my hair cut for the first time since June. I just haven't had time to schedule and then go.
Cheryl, you looked lovely at the wedding. I love that dress and the bride and groom look pretty good too.
Badger, I saw you got a new job? In the same organization or outside your organization? Good luck. I know they overworked you!
Scottie, hope you feel up to snuff right away. My back issues seem to be happening more frequently. UGH!
Good news on the weights, Lilac. I've started to do more weights since my outside walking got reduced by sub-freezing temps.
Speaking of exercise, this morning I woke up early and did some planks and dumbbell exercises and back strengthening. At lunch I went to the mall and walked 25 minutes, plus I did one round of stairs this afternoon - 12 flights of stairs in our building. It makes a pretty good HIIT workout.

Workout planned for today

selfie reunion picture picture with my daughter after not seeing each other for almost 4 months! It was good to hug her. Nice day today hanging out together! Lots of walking over 20K steps so far and more walking tonight for Shabbat dinner.
My flights were good, except my flight from Chicago left over 1/2 hour late. Only had an hour layover to begin with. There were 5 of us on both flights. The flight attendant announced for people to stay seated as there were people with very short connection so we could get of. Of course no one listens so I opened my mouth and said loudly " excuse me we have a flight in 15 minutes!" And people let us by. Someone else with the same time flight as mine goes to me, I'll have to remember to have a big mouth! Ran like crazy to make the connections. When I got to immigrations the guy said relax they are holding the plane. I was so worried about missing my flight and not being able to get another flight for a few days!
So far not too bad with jet lag...9 hours difference from Denver
Have a great day
-
Yea, Karen!!!!
Another Zumba class today......I guess we will go out with a bang because our teacher is offering classes every weekday until the gym closes (at the end of next week). IF we can get there, that is.....we are in the path of a Monster Storm which is expected to start Christmas Day and go through Monday, starting with freezing rain & morphing into lots of snow & high winds. The headline in the paper today mentions "Skating Rink Conditions".....
-
Good to see you and daughter so happy Karen! I too thought the LE report help all of us. Oh Scottie, thank you for sharing - like that diet and will pass your positive outcome on. With my pink pilates class I've added handweights and resistance tubes with the majority really liking it. We have two participants who always wear a sleeve and gauntlet one is easy going about the half kg weights, the other, not so much. I'm monitoring these lovely ladies closely. And Claire, you and Ruth are rather unique in not having any LE issues, especially with the number of nodes removed - super amazing. TwoHobbies , you are going for it!.
Taught two body/flow classes already and off in a bit to cover another - three different gyms today. Christmas holidays and August are my busy substitute teaching time and yup, dem hips are tired.
-
Wonderful pix ladies! Karen great selfie with DD. So glad you get to spend Hanukkah with her. Cheryl, the happy couple glow with wedded bliss and you look fabulous in red. Ruth, I saw the forecast for ND and it is a Monster Storm. 18" of snow?? TH yes new job, in same org but different dept. Hate to dump my workload on other people but had a chance to transfer out and took it. Off work now for a few days but lots to do. So "warm" yesterday afternoon I washed my car and dropped it off for an oil change then walked home and back to fetch it. More errands this afternoon including one last session of Shop & Sculpt. We head to MIL's on C-Mas Eve and stay over (eat good food then drink wine around the fireplace!) then come home C-Mas Day. Mom lives in the same town so will pick up and drop off as she prefers to sleep in her own bed. Wishing everyone Happy Holidays, whatever you celebrate ~ Hanukkah ~ Christmas ~ Solstice.
-
Karen, we can see you are happy to be there. Enjoy!
Stay safe, Ruth. Sounds like staying snug indoors will be a good option. Badger, congrats on the new job.
Lilac that is a lot of classes in one day!
Worked half day today so I got up early to get my four hours in and then went for a 20 minute run/walk near the lake, then tried to shovel a little of the driveway that didn't get shoveled between the cars. Now I'm off to the grocery store for supplies for Christmas Eve dinner, Christmas breakfast and dinner. Yikes I may have gotten too ambitious!
Happy Holidays everyone!
-
Karen-enjoy your time with your daughter. You both look so happy.
Ruth- stay safe in that storm. I hope you got your voice back.
Scottie- good job on the anti-inflammatory diet.
Lilac- great article. My LE is totally under control now but I definitely had a fear of lifting weights for years after my surgery.
Scottie- hope your recovery goes quickly.
Well, I managed to make it through the past week with hardly any voice and did not get any of the other horrible symptoms going around my school. My voice is returning to normal. Got up at 5:15 am and made about 10 dozen chocolate peanut clusters before school. Just need to wrap a few things and I will be ready for Christmas. Planning on going to Zumba in the morning.
-
Karen, what a fabulous picture you and DD! Stay safe Ruth. Badger, that's awesome that you're getting a new job. Scottie, hope you get relief soon. Ginger, glad your voice is coming back. I've been busy getting ready for Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and the day after Christmas as we meet with my family on that day. Lots of cooking today, prepping and cleaning. We have had nice weather last several days so I was able to walk yesterday and a much longer walk today. Thinking of all of you during these holidays.
-
Ok, taught my last BB class this morning (until Tuesday), gave everyone a chocolate and afterwards, the last of the shopping done. Now to make turkey stuffing and wrap up all. My boy turned 18 yesterday and had another conditional come in for uni - Leeds. It's so different getting into university over here, a long, drawn out process. All except for five, are public or national universities. So to apply, one goes through one system, UCAS - they operate the applications process. Now to cook and wrap and stay home!
Wishing everyone a relaxing, non-tearful Christmas, Haunhkkah, or Secular season celebration.
-
The dreadmill & yoga....now off for one more shopping excursion (I need ONE thing!). We are still scheduled for the Christmas Day Monster Blizzard, so DH & I may be eating LOTS of turkey all by ourselves!
Happy Everything!
-
What a crazy week I have had, so busy at work on Thursday I worked till 11.30pm and then I stopped at Kohls on the way home, I was shocked at how many people were shopping at that time, then I went over to Target, oh my gosh so many people, I was the last one in at midnight and I needed one thing but one look at the lines and I knew it would be an hour to check out so I just left.
Finally did some exercise last night, had a lovely chilly walk around the Naples neighborhood of Long Beach, it's all canals and beautifully decorated homes it was chilly on the water but was very festive then as we were leaving the heavens opened up and we had torrential rain all night long but today has dawned sunny and glorious. This morning went to Grit Cardio and Body Pump, then a few things at the grocery store and now to start baking cookies, something I should have done weeks ago, that and bowing all my wrapped gifts is all I have left to do I have already curled all the ribbon so it's a quick job.
Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah and Kwanza.
