    hi everyone,

i just got back from vacation.  i tried a few adventurous things like mountain bike riding and kayaking, but spent a good deal of time working on crafts.  I painted 4 different ceramic projects, took an oil painting class, took a watercolor class, learned to make a hemp bracelet and other friendship bracelets.  Also, did some glass painting and made christmas ornaments.  oh, and I painted a few little birdhouses.

I'll download photos and share in the next few days.  I'm thrust right back into cancer stuff.....check up with the rad oncologist tomorrow, then my oncologist on Tuesday and then pre-op tests on Wednesday.  Next Monday is my hysterectomy.

I'm starting to gather projects to do while I recover!

    Lisa

p.s. that watermelon baby carriage is too cute!!!

Lisa, so sorry your having to go through all of that, praying all goes smoothly.  I am so jealous getting to take all those classes to learn all that good stuff.  I have noticed teenagers are really into hemp bracelets so would really love to learn to make them for our church kids and glad you got to kayak and bike ride too but I bet the crafts were the best.  Am really looking forward to seeing pictures.

Hi Candie, it is cute isn't it.  I love this thread too. So many people with so many ideas.

Alwayshope, my jazzy girl. Let me know when I can start sending more squares.  love ya.

There is a jewelry making class starting here in this small town and have been thinking about joining it because I have so much to learn to make better jewelry.  There is also a lady here that does fairy gardens for people (not exactly sure what that is though)

    Everyone have a great day.

Hi Girls... Just wanted to share this with you. I made this for my dearest friend Paula... I met her in my Rocktober Chemo 2005 group here at bco. Paula and all of the girls in our group have stayed together and have met in person in Chicago and Las Vegas and soon to be Seattle as well. Paula, the youngest inour group... 33... was recently dx'd w/mets. It has been a devastating blow not only to me but to all 17 of the girls in our chemo group. I made this necklace for Paula this past weekend (if any of you want the instructions... step by step... PM me):

    Hi,

Does anyone work with dollhouses and miniatures? I have three dollhouses and several room boxes that I bought along with all of the materials to decorate them and have only finished my conservatory.  It is so hard to get motivated.

I also do crocheting. I am not very talented though, I just make afghans and scarves. I use the Knifty Knitters to make hats to match the scarves.  I have a long knifty knitter as opposed to the round ones but I am not really sure what I cna make with it. Any ideas?

I used to paint with acrylics, but haven't touched my canvases in the last 3 years. No motivation and no ideas... sigh...

I think you girls are so talented.

    C

It took me years after finishing chemo to get back to my quilting, cross stitch and crafts.  It will come back.  There are several websites with knifty knitter patterns as well as some books you can order off Amazon.com.  Here is a website with a few for both circular and long:  http://www.macphersoncrafts.com/FreeProjects/FreeProject_KniftyKnitter_Detail.asp

I have been away for quite some time (since June 23, 2009) in hospital and rehab for diabetic foot ulcer and shoulder replacement.  My depression was getting so bad I lost my zest for life and interest in anything other than my self-pity.  They added another antidepressant and lo and behold I got my zest back.

I haven't had time to read through all your posts but the pictures posted show what creative women you are.

Now to the point, pictured below is the kind of painting I would like to do (No, I didn't paint this!):

    b-vm-02-ballardvanityw-mirror.jpg

I love buying really inexpensive and old furniture and bringing it back to life!  As soon as my shoulder heals, I will start painting the 3 tables (2 side and 1 coffee) I picked up at an auction ($5.00 for all three).

C - I love miniatures and I too have a doll house! It's fun to decorate it. Have you checked out miniatures.com? They have great stuff!

Kathleen - I'm sorry you had to go through so much... BUT IT'S GREAT you're feeling better. Crafts - in any form - is very therapeutic. That vanity IS AMAZING. Good luck with your tables. Please post photos when you're done!

I have decorated a spare bedroom for my nieces - they visit us often. I bought an old beat up vanity at a garage sale and painted it. I sewed the fabric parts and I mosaic'd the top of it and had a piece of glass cut to lay over it. The high heels... I found at a ceramic shop. I painted them and decorated them. The fabrics that I used were left over from the duvet, pillow shams, bedskirt and drapes I made. I found the mirror at a garage sale too... painted it and added ball fringe around the edges. It was one of the "funnest" projects!

Such crafty talent,  I am also jealous.   Keep the pictures and ideas coming.   My tacky bra is done, and # 2 needs some more beads.   Tomorrow we head north to PInkstock and pictures will be taken.  Hopefully someone can post a few.    Have a super duper weekend.    HUGS,   Nancy

Love the necklace Laura and the vanity, such bright crafty ideas

I also love to redo old furniture, had a very old bed and painted it red and antiqued it in black. It was beautiful, don't know whatever happened to it through divorce and the years.

Lefty, can't wait to see the pictures from pinkstock.  Have fun.

Jazzy girl, good to see you here and you always seem to have the perfect places to go on the internet to find what you need.  Am going to check into the nifty knitter thing.

Kathleen, so glad you found us and would love for you to get back to your painting and show us a few pictures.  welcome.

Keep on crafting ladies.  Have fun.

    Hi All,

I am a newcomer....actually I have been reading everyone's posts and enjoying them but just haven't posted.  I have a question.  I now do cross stitch, knitting, and some sewing.  I am getting ready to undertake making 2 quilts - hopefully by Christmas (aim high right? LOL).  Anyway, reading all of the posts and thinking about all the wonderful things I could be making and the fact I found one of those Cricut machines on clearance at Michaels (yes, I admit I have stumbled across the infocommerical about the Cricut).  Anyway, have any of you ever used it and could give me some pointers?

Hi Asurvr.....I also read here alot and have not posted.  But my daughter has set up craft central in our family room with her Cricut.  She has made incredible cards, scrapbook pages, gift bags, etc.  She suggested that you get two cartridges to start with.  One with basic shapes and one with font.  She suggests, the George and Basic Shapes cartridge and the Stretch your imagination cartridge.  That was what she found the best to get started.  It was confusing at first looking at all the different choices in cartridges, but these  are a good place to start.  She just started playing and has not stopped since she got it for Christmas.  The sticky sheet that you use in the machine will get un-sticky after alot of use, so when ever she sees them on sale she buys an extra or two. I thought at first it was going to be like the Sham-Wow, or any other infomercial, but it really does work very well and was easy to learn.

She also collects her 40% off coupons for Joann Fabrics and watches for sales at Michaels when she needs a new cartridge.  She actually bought her Christmas cartridge in July for 50% off.

Good Luck and Let me know if you have any questions and she would love to help.

    Laura

Arnie - I am so sorry to hear you have been under the weather but thank goodness that they not only diagnosed the problem but have you on the road to recovery!

Speaking of wreaths, years ago I used to wait for the after Christmas sales and start making wreaths for the next year.  Yet again, it is hard to sell - people only want to pay $25 and I put at least that in ornaments and decorations on the darn thing!

Feel better - talk with you soon.

Arnie, so glad you found the problem and are feeling better!.....Good luck at the doc's!....I would like to purchase one of those wreaths too!.....Would solve my which wreath now dilemma!...LOL

Kathleen how are you, my dear?.....Please PM me your phone number at home as I have lost it.....I am so bad about things like that!.....

Laura love the necklace and vanity!.....Got me to thinking maybe I will take my bedroom furniture out and paint it.......Hubby would have a cow!....LOL

Welcome to the newbies!.......I crochet and cross-stitch.....For those who cross-stitch do you use the reversee method or the regular method?.....I use the reversee cause it looks pretty much the same on the back as the front.....It takes twice as much floss but I really enjoy this way....I also use 3 strands of floss instead of 2 on 28 count as this gives the piece more depth when blocked and ironed.....I iron the piece wrong side up on my ironing board and the stitches stand up this way.....Happy crocheting and stitching!.........

To all my crafty buddies, have a great day!.......

Laura - has your daughter tried glass etching using the Cricut

Arnie - I absolutely love the wreath.  I hope it's okay - I've already made my list for Michaels to get the cut outs to make it for my backdoor.  Congratulations on the only 2 treatments to go!

    Everyone have a blessed day!
