Crafts after BC is good for the soul

Nancy, one good thing about those slipper instructions, they work for either knitted or crocheted rectangles, although the crocheted ones seem to be heavier unless you knit with double strands. And didn't you say that with the Knifty Knitter you use double strand yarn? Boy, I have got to try out a knifty knitter, my wrists don't hold out for much crocheting anymore and I have so much yarn around the house.
Laura, you can barge in anytime you feel like it.

I just finished a beautiful Heart shawl.....If you are interested you can print it from http://crochet.about.com/library/n030107cht.htm ...Just copy this url and paste it up top to go to this site.....It is so easy and fun!...it is made in filet crochet from biggest end to smallest........If I could figure ou how to post pictures I would put some on here of my other crochet projects.......
Happy crafting all!........
-
Glad some of you are having fun with the Knifty Knitter! Think it was Spar that asked.......yes, I taught myself........the directions with the looms aren't very good. I bought a book online that really helped and I have a couple pamplet type books bought at the store that have shown me the different stitches.
Hey Candy............you're right.........Long time, no talk......how you doing??
I'm such a spoiled brat.............my DH bought me the Brother Sewing/Embroidery machine for my Birthday!! Kinda scares me..............alot of reading and learning to do, but it will be fun once I figure it out!!
Hope to pop in hear more often to see your ideas and projects.............spending alot of time away from home with my DH's illness...........should say the Hospital see's more of us than anyone!

Hi girls... haven't had a chance to read through all your posts yet... BUT - I found a great website today. You may know of it... it's Etsy.com - you can buy AND sell craft items! They have the most amazing items... puts me to shame... for sure! lol
Anyway... just wanted to share!
-
Welcome Laura, we are always interested in any new crafts and ideas, love to see pictures of everyones crafts.
Oh Neesie you spoiled woman, I am so jealous.
Am going to check at the web site, I know Candie will be interested in it if you can buy and sell craft items.
Haven't had as much time on line lately. In the middle of 3 crafts all going at the same time. Will post pictures when done. Happy crafting. Thanks everyone for sharing your ideas.

I checked out that website Laura, pretty neat... I do woodworking so of course I checked out that category...lol Don't know if I'd want to go into business though...just a beloved hobby...
-
Thanks... you never know when a website will inspire you!
Spar - would love to see pics!
arnie - Woodworking... what type?
-
Neesie - Try to enjoy that machine as much as possible... it's therapuetic! (sp?)

I have a so called portable Singer machine that weighs a LOT. It rarely jumps around on the table and only plain and zig zag stitches. My DH once got me a free arm machine and it bounced around like a rubber ball in the water, so back it went.
What is a bit funny is the thread holder on top broke off and I have a small make up brush stuck in the hole with the fluffy brush part sticking out on top. Hey... it works...
Happy crafting to all. I too am in the midst of several projects -- can covers for several bridge friends who like the idea of no drips on the table and the knifty knitter when my fingers aren't hurting.

here is a picture of an angel a friend sent to me that she made, I thought it was pretty cool.

-
Hi Neesie!!
Spar, love the angel
Laura, going to check out that website.
hugs and prayers

Spar, I got one of those Angels also only done in pink yarn.
I am in the process of making fabric cell phone/ipod/mp3 bags (that hang around your neck), pocketbooks with 6 outside pockets, and small clutch type wallets (lazy Girl Wonder wallet) to take to the Bluegrass Farmers market this weekend and next weekend to sell. My sister and I are going on a trip the end of July to a reunion of high school friends and we need traveling money. She is also making some pocketbooks and checkbook wallets. I found out last week that the Bluegrass Farmers market uptown doesn't charge a table fee so anything I make will be pure profit. They only require that all items be hand-made (no mass produced items) or produce be locally grown. The set up at 4:00 pm Friday and a local band starts playing at 6:00 pm. Since Monday night I have made 8 wallets, I already had 7 pocketbooks and 7 or 8 cell phone bags made. I am stitching the items out of fabric that has been given to me. I have other items from the quilt guild that they will allow me to take to sell as well (that money goes back in their treasury). Wish me well in my endeavors. (each wallet and cell phone bag take less than 30 minutes to sew up) One lady at work suggested I make the cell phone bags just a bit longer and line with fleece for sun glass cases. That is something to think about.

Wow! I hope you make a ton of money. Everything sounds so interesting. Can you take pictures? and post? We are starting to build a deck on the house tomorrow so will have to take away from crafting but I did make my mom a cat necklace for her birthday and a pink ribbon survivor and pink pearl necklace that I love. Will post pictures tomorrow. I need to get myself to bed. It is getting late. Good night all.
-
Good Luck at the farmers market. I found that almost everyone will pay a couple of dollars for "Neck coolers" and if you have a cooler with some already plumped up - they can instantly cool off. You can google it and see if it is something you want to add to your stock of items for sale. They do not take up a lot of room and maybe 5 minutes each to make, once you have the strips cut.
-
I will let you know how I do this afternoon. I am unable to post pictures right now but here is a link to see what the 'wonder wallets' look like. They are addicting to make. I made 10 of them this week in the evenings. http://www.lazygirldesigns.com/blog/?p=262
I am making a few posters to put on the front of my table, one of them says 'green shopping bags - assorted colors' (I thought it was funny)
About the 'green shopping bags' I have some I made out of 'flame hunter orange' duck fabric and I am known when I go to the local grocery store and Walmart as the lady with the orange bags. Last week, I accidentally left one of my empty bags at the cash register when I left. When I went back in on a couple of days later, the cashier remembered me having the orange bags (I was in my hubby's car and didn't have a green bag with me) and let me know I forgot one and she put it at the Customer Service desk.
Nancy, I will look into making those neck coolers. I saw your instructions a couple of pages back and could you not cut it in one wider piece and only sew the ends and across one long side instead of sewing around all 4 sides? That would make it quicker to sew up.

The one and only time I ordered anything from Etsy.com I not only did not get the item I paid for but I lost my money too.........I was not reimbursed by Etsy and the person selling has now been banned.......I haven't tried that site since.........
I am now crocheting baby booties for my 2 friends who have 2 new granddaughters.....I have decided to embroider little daisies on the top of the booties......Can anyone tell me how to post pics?......
-
Sheila, I do not sew all 4 sides. I make strips 3-4 inches wide, leaving the salvage as the "ends" so they do not ravel and do not need to be sewn . Sew a tube, double stitch, using 2 strips. Turn right side out, About 12 inches from the end, I tie a knot, pull and pull it tight. Put in one cap of crystals, shake down and tie the other end with a knot, very tight. I use 60" wide fabric. I found that a funnel is good for putting the crystals in the tube. Caution is pets are around - you DO NOT want them to eat any of the crystals. You can stitch just above or below the knot if you want, but not really necessary. When I do them, it becomes like an assembly line --- sew first, till I have a dozen or more, tie one end, fill and tie the other end. If you have not discovered the VERY CHEAP zip lock OR flip top baggies at the Dollar Store, check it out. They are perfect for the neck coolers.
And to answer your original question, I had not "thunk" of cutting a wider piece and only sewing ONE side.
-
The point I was trying to make was, (my memory isn't good and I didn't need chemo)I thought that your instructions said to cut 2 long skinny rectangles and sew them together on the long sides (I couldn't remeber how you did the ends), but by cutting the rectangle twice as wide as needed (6-7 inches) and folding in half rst you would only have to sew up one side. I am all for making things easy, and if I can get away sewing one seam instead of two, I will do that.
I will have to look for the crystals and see what I can do. I do have a Basset Hound and I will be extra careful if I make any of these.

I have chemo brain, that is my story and I am sticking to it !!! Yes, make it as easy as possible. I thank you for the helpful hint. IF you should want to make a two tone one, you could then use 2 strips. Maybe in sports team colors? Good luck, let me know if they sell well.
-
LOVE THE WALLETS!!
-
I looked at the wallets but how do you make them, what size squares, how many. They looked difficult or maybe today is my stoooopid day. I'll look and try again tomorrow.
-
-
Darn! it didn't work!..I tried to copy and paste a picture......
-
-
Sorry the pic is sso big but I FINALLY got my pic to come up!...These are baby booties I crochet.....And then this is a Cross stitch piece I did....

-
Hollyann, love the baby booties and love the cat cross stitch, they are both beautiful. If you sell any baby booties. I would love to buy a pair from you, I have a friend that is pregnant with her first and it is a girl and I have never conquered being able to make baby booties. PM me is you want to sell a pair.
I made 2 more necklaces, one a cat for my mom and one a heart with the bc ribbon for a friend.

-
you ladies put me to shame! Got frustrated with the quilt i was working on and put it all away for a bit. Suppose I should take it out and start up again.
-
Thank you Spar....LOVE the necklaces!!!!!........I Pm'd you about the booties but I will say right out I don't sell them......My talent is a gift from God and as such the products of that talent are gifts to friends and relatives also........i am currently making 2 other pair for friends who have granddaughters coming soon or just born.......The cat crochet I did for my sister Pauline about 15 yrs ago.......I have done several other projects like them since.....Amazingly I don't have any displayed in my own home.....I have doilies that I crocheted on my tales but no cross-stitch pieces and the only afghan I kept was stolen last year by a supposed friend when she moved out of my home.........I just hope she gets some good use out of it.........I can make another it's really no big deal but it ticked me off at the time LOL.........I am also working on crocheted snowflakes for my tree this Christmas....I hope to cover it in pink and white snowflakes with red crocheted bells and wreaths.....It takes a while to stiffen the decorations but well worth it.......They all store flat in a smaller box instead of a huge box of 3D items..........
Jo, so sorry your photobucket isn't working........Is it possible to share a photobucket site with someone?.....Or is that not allowed?......I have photobucket and have problems with it sometimes.......
Happy crafting all!!!!..................
-
Hollyann, you are amazing, what a generous wonderful woman you are. So sorry about your afghan getting stolen, I know it can be replaced but it is the loss of a would be friend that would cause so much pain. The tree sound beautiful and sure hope we get a picture of that. I can knit but have not learned to crochet, I just can't seem to get the hang of it. I would love to make you a necklace.
JO so sorry your photobucket is not up to par, when I use it it has been being really slow and it is very irritating. I love looking at your jewelry. thank you, I am still having fun doing it too.

Spar, The wallets are easy to make, I got the pattern from a friend at my quilt guild. Since the pattern is copyrighted I don't think I can post the instructions on a web forum. I actually lost my original pattern but 'de-constructed' the first wallet that I made to get the dimensions and refresh my memory on how to make them. I will only be on-line occasionally this week, my office is closed for July 4th and I just stopped by the office to fax something for my son. I may stop in later this week and catch up.
Friday was slow at the farmer's market. The county offices next to the market was closed on Friday and they didn't have a band scheduled to play due to a large bluegrass festival in the next town. Although I did sell a pocketbook, wallet, 'green' grocery bag, and pieced needle case in 2 hours. I will try again this Friday, they promised a band and more people to be there.
the one and only time I tried Photobucket, I got a virus that the network virus scan cleaned, and then the site got banned from the network due to the virus.
