Housework support group!!???!!

BTW, I finished work this evening and I can say that Friday, when I posted about my pain, was my worst day. The pain was much more manageable the rest of the weekend. Now I have a day off before getting back at it! Thank you all for your support!
-
Deb and Faith - great pictures.
xpectmiracles - I know what you mean. Looked at both the Haan and Shark but also tired of buying fancy things that don't get used (like my dyson). My floors do really need a good cleaning though and mop and water just don't cut it. Would take too much time and you ladies won't let me so I figure if I had one of those I could maybe sneak a few minutes in.
Well, I'm pooped - takes a lot of energy to sit on the couch all day - so I'm off to bed.
-
Well Patoo you just send that Dyson right on over, I promise I will use it...LOL.....Vacuum cleaners don't last long around here since the white german shepherd we have is long haired and constantly shedding.....
Got a question for everyone...I have that laminated wood on my floor in my kitchen...the people that owned the house before told me to just use water on it, but it streaks, never shines...what can you use on that stuff?
-
Coonie- I'm doing 12 weekly Taxol instead of the 4 every three weeks because of the clinical trial. I think the dose is less on the weekly regimen but I'm not 100% sure about that.
-
Good morning people who hate housework!
I'd like to know the best way to clean hardwood floors. I've just been using a mop and water but wondered if there are other options. I know we are not cleaning them now, but has anyone cleaned their floors in the past??
Still raining here. I can't believe it!
-
Deb, Makraz - they have a special cleaner for hardwood and laminate floors. You can get it at Home Depot or Lowes or any hardware-type store. Use a mop with microfiber cloth. I also have them in the kitchen, DR and LR, hence looking at the Haan or Shark steam cleaners.
But, you ladies didn't hear it from me on this thread!
-
I would worry that the steam would leave the wood or laminate too damp and you'd start to get swelling or marks. Hmmmmm?
I agree Patoo, there are special squirt bottles with cleaner in it that you don't have to rinse off. Expensive, so you don't use it every time...
Does those wet Swiffers work? Or do they leave streaks too?
-
Didn't think about that since they "supposedly" steam clean and then dry instantly, but...
I only use the Swiffer dry/vac which I love. I had a 'wet' one once but it clogged and I never replaced it.
But, we digress from this "support" group - bad Barbe

Morning ladies! Well hubby is back to his old self thankfully and off to work. My tooth is feeling better but now will have to find a good dentist to get it taken care of.
As for the floors I loved having a scooba one time that did the sweeping, and washing the floors for me but it quit working way too soon and I don't think they even make them anymore. Too bad they can't just get some of the bugs out cause they were a great idea. So that left me having to find another way to clean the wood floors downstairs. I have used just about everything from swiffers to about every cleaning product out there but didn't like the haze they left. Finally came upon this solution. I use Holloway House wood floor cleaner (find it at Meiers and Walmart sometimes) its the one that says Quick Shine. I pour a little straight out of the bottle and then use my shark hardwood floor steam cleaner to work it into the wood. It smells wonderful when you are finished. The steam alone never seemed to get things as clean as I wanted so adding the cleaner really helped. Do want to add this is my experiment and not sure how safe that is to steam a cleaner like that but it does do a beautiful job on the floors. The Holloway house also has a bottle that says floor finisher I think that gives it a high shine but I find I like the Quick shine and it does wonders for my floor. Hope this helps.
-
That may not work on my laminates since they are not porous so any cleaner would just be pushed around on top. I think that would cause a buildup on the floors.
Might work for Makraz though.
-
OMG FAITH - you are beautiful. Loved it - your parents look so sweet. I lost mine over 20 years ago - can I share yours - they could adopt me -- I don't eat very much!
DEB -- that is some little beauty queen you have there!
ARNIE -- good one - I also like Pyllis Diller's remark "wht bother with housework...you just have to do it again in 6 months"
-
Sorry patoo I was thinking about the wood. We have a laminate floor in one of our upstairs bedrooms and I usually just swiffer that one. It stays pretty nice on its own.
-
Faith meant to mention what a great picture that was too.
Kmc how is that arm doing today?
Deb your little granddaughter was just too cute in that wig in case I forgot to tell you that yesterday.
Coonie have you heard anything about Lursa? Not like her not to be on here for so long. She was having some stomach problems so I'm kind of concerned.
Arnie hope you are behaving and going for that test. Don't make me get that mad smiley face out again.
Linda we had that never ending rain too last week but it does finally end and then comes da heat!
Mary ((((((hugs))))) on treatment day.
Deb thinking you still are on the rad treatments right?
Cheryl and bkc sending a cyber ((((hug))) your way too.
Barbe are you still pain free? I thought about you yesterday and what all you and your hubby must go through in just everday life dealing with bc and his brain tumor. Makes me appreciate your wit and humor even more.
-
I used Murphy Oil Soap on my hardwood floors and natural finish doors and furniture, but had carpet over the middle sections. Did not have the entire floor to do. Now I have wall to wall in this apartment. They make it in a squirt bottle, which I love for my tables and book cases. It smells good -- just squirt and wipe.
If there is a film on your wooden floors, you could try white vinegar in a warm water solution. Wring out cloth real good. The film could be causing streaks - vinegar will remove most build up. BUT, I caution, this means some actual "house work".... Those who use vinegar solution on windows can attest to its effectiveness and low cost. .... those who remember washing windows, that is !!!!!!
In keeping with avoiding house work, last evening I went over to the dog park and took 2 bottles of bubbles. The dogs went crazy. I do not have a dog, but am a dog lover and get my "dog fix" when I go over there. One whippet, one white boxer, one weimereimer, one water spaniel, one black lab, and 2 of some breed that starts with a V. I will add that the adults were as funny as the dogs. Most of these dogs were under a year old, so the energy they had was unbelievable.
Today I might have to think about some house work. Laundry is not overflowing and the desk "could" use a clean up. Does thinking about it count??? Have a great day (((((( friends )))))))

Patoo and MOm, Thanks for the info on the steam cleaners. Someday I wan tto buy one, mainly to kill germs since my kids are disgusting!! Now I use a swifter mop but I don't use the cleaner. I just filled the empty cleaner bottle up with water and use that. It works but I'm looking for something else.
Mom, glad to her DH is back at work!! We have had 19 days of rain so far in June. July better be AWESOME! My parents 50th wedding anniversary is Sat and we are having a party at our house on Cape Cod. It better NOT be raining then!!!
-
Rain, Rain -- GO AWAY, except in the drought areas. We have had record rains here also. Trees are falling over from the majorly saturated ground, when the wind blows the slightest. (notice I made up the word "majorly"...).
And one final thought: May today be a "majorly" UN house worky day...
-
Good morning bunnies!!! The pictures are soooooooooo GREAT!! Faithie.......tell your dad to add me to his prayer list....ok? I can tell he's a man who knows how to pray.
Deb...your granddaughter with your wig is ADORABLE. That should be entered in a contest........so I could vote 1,000 times
hehe
OK.....I see we're still talking about cleaning floors. Well, I use the Shark steam cleaner on my kitchen/bathroom floors. It dries really fast so there's no problem ruining the floors that way. I've never tried them with a cleaner though. I might do that. Since I've been using the steam cleaner, it has taken away my shine to the kitchen floor. But then again, I don't want a build up of waxy shine either. I just want CLEAN!!! With two dogs in the house, it just feels good to have them clean. LOL
I have PM'd Lursa but I haven't heard ANYTHING. I'm really worried about her. Does anyone know how to get in touch with her.
MaryRose......I forgot you mentioned you were on a trial thingy. I think you'll be able to handle the Taxol better than the Red Devil. You're getting there girl and I'm rooting you on!!!!! Before you know it, you'll be saying, "I can't do ANYTHING with my hair".....that's where I'm at now.
MOm........so glad your tooth is feeling better. You need to get it fixed THIS WEEK!!!!
I hope Arnie and Mr. Arnie are doing ok. I sure miss her!!!!!!!
Sharon.......I need some help today cleaning and since you did that YESTERDAY, would you come on down and give me a hand. I'm sure we'd talk more than we clean, but maybe we could do just ONE thing. OK?
(((((((((((((((((((((((hugs to everybody)))))))))))
-
OH yeah....I wanted to post a pic of my dad. This is actually a "picture" of a "picture". He passed away 9 years ago.. This picture was taken 2 months before he passed away. He was 60 years young........and the most wonderful dad in the whole world!!!!
-
Dearest Makraz, you mustn't steam your kids - you'll get arrested honey!
See how bloody dangerous housework things are..........
-
Heres the Collage Arnie I made for my Dads memorial in 2007..He donated his body to science so there was no funeral.....Mom passed away 10 yrs prior.........
-
COONIE: What a handsome man your Dad was and how young when he died. Had he just died recently he would still be was too young to go. He looks so kind and loving. I know you miss him so much.
LONDON: Of course housework is dangerous - OMG I broke my foot tripping over my vacuum cleaner once.
MOM: They told me to take 4 antibiotics one hour before the dental procedures but that was because of a heart condition.
LINDA: If I were the rain, I would definitely be afraid of you, especially on your party day!
EVERYBODY: The pain in my arm is trying to kill me! Help!
-
DEB: Beautiful, simply beautiful!
-
London Virgina LOL!!! I ment the floors but perhaps it would be easier to steam clean the kids! Thanks for the idea!!
Love the pictures of your Dads! So sweet!
Kathleen, I am thinking postive. It's rained for 19 out of 22 days so far....there can't be much rain left, right???? Pleae say right!
I wish I could help you with your arm. I have nerve damage from my SNB and it hurts the more I do. That's why I can't do housework......not really but I'm sticking to that one! Do massages help with your arm?
-
It is only a thought, and probably useless, but would one of those little Tens devices be of any help with the nerve troubles?
-
Thanks guys, broke my heart to lose my Daddy, we were never the close when I was growing up, he was always at work, after Mom passed away, we became bestest friends, did alot together...so it was like losing my best friend too when he left..but I'm glad I had that time with him...
Linda I had a axillary node dissection and have nerve damage in my arm also...it's in the back of the bicep and omg, move it the wrong way and it goes off, that hurts...and the more I do too, the more it hurts...think there would be something they could give you for that.
Kath, ya know if I could, would be right over to help ya out babe!!!!!
-
DEB - I know you would Sweetie and I so appreciate the thought!
LINDA - RIGHT there will beno more rain until Linda says so!
-
Happy Monday all, happy to report after an almost do nothing weekend my pain level is very moderate - Sooo happy. I even started to vacuum earlier, and guess what, no lie, the thing started on fire and just died, a sure sign from heaven - saying "knock it off". Ed has been saying for months we needed a new one, I have just been procrastinating, thank goodness I was out on the front porch when it started, blue smoke and sparks and small flames everywhere. It now sits outside in the driveway, I am to lazy to carry it back, and Tuesday is garbage day anyway.
It is sooooooooooooooo, sooooooooooooooo humid here, thats the killer this time of year, our heat index temp was at 98 at 6AM, will make 106+ again this afternoon, then we should get some relief this week with some afternoon rains moving back in.
Love the dad pics, I too miss my parents so much.
-
Cathi, happy to here you are feeling better. Hahaha about the vacuum, glad your OK, but learn a lesson from that NEVER VACUUM AGAIN!
Deb, my arm feels much better than it did 6 months ago. If I overdo it, then it hurts. Of course it's my right arm and I am usually the pitcher when we play baseball. My 10 yo gets mad that I can't do it anymore. I throw out a few and then have someone else take over. I'm hoping overtime it will continue to heal and get better. I've herd it can take a few years. DH massages it and it feels so much better.
Kathleen, I tried yelling No more rain but it's still raining!
-
LOL Cathi, I WISH mine would catch on fire so I could get a new one! I hate that sweeper...doesn't pick up right..........
-
What wonderful pics you gals have posted. Your dads were very loved.
Cathi good seeing the pain has decreased some.
Kmc, Linda and Deb hope yours fade into the sunset as well.
I just finished cleaning out my refridgerator and now have to finish getting the downstairs cleaned up, I didn't get to do much of anything for the last few days so have to make up some cleaning time. So I better get off and get busy.
