Glad your crud (?) is getting better, Diane.  Hope you find the perfect place soon!

I have a big bag of Hershey kisses for when I need chocolate.  I try not to pick at it too much since I'm perpetually trying to lose weight...

Diane.......................thanks, and yes we have known each other long enough to be considered "first name basis"...........honestly believe it or not........Ducky is a nickname, and it stuck...........my real name is Genevieve........................What is it they say ......when your gonna name your child, .......open the door............yell the name out..........and listen to how it sounds, and what the other kids reaction would be...........obviously my mother did not do that..............lol..........Genevieve.........really................but that was my grandmothers name, my mother's name, now my name, my daugher's name (husband insisted)..........grandaughter's name, (my mother died 1 week before my grandaughter was born.......thus her being named after my mother..... so maybe none of them "yelled it out the door"...................................hahahahahahahaha.........................yet when I say it to people, they love it..................go figure........

I actually love the name Genevieve :)

Soon, we will be calling me homeless instead of Diane or Rain.  DD is crying a lot about the uncertainty.  I feel like doing the same but, as usual, I need to model this in the best possible light by calling it an adventure.  Frankly, I could kill my DH for insisting on fiscal responsibility by selling first.

I don't mind the name now, but back when I was a kid, teenager, and in HS, it seemed so weird............especially when everyone was Debbie, Barbie, Mary, Shirley.............along comes Genevieve.................

We made an offer on a 1950's house today, very small, all on one level that we will have to gut. Hope we get it and hope we have enough money to do the work.  Fingers crossed ladies.  The house is only two blocks from where we are now for which I am very grateful - won't change my daily life. I didn't watch any news today either, but I did get to go babysit Shelby for a while.  Love that chubby little girl :)  She is so serious and intense for one just approaching ten months.  It is a little disconcerting for me because I only had giggly babies.  I love how she smiles when she sees me - sorry ladies, this is still new to me.

The Barbies and Shirley's were my mother's generation I think.

Hope you all have had a good day, despite the date.

I always envied kids with unusual first names.  Not only were my first and last names common, the combination of my first and last names were common!

I always felt sorry though for even the kids with unusual names whose parents never considered how the kids could be teased by unfortunate combinations.  I had one friend who always got laughed at when the teachers called the roll reading the last names first.  Her name was Montana Billings.  Of course, Spokane is close enough to Montana that everyone knew that Billings is one of the major cities there.

Sometimes parents think they are being cute when naming their kids, but it sure can be a sore spot as they grow.

My parents named my sister and brother common names, but when I came along they gave me a very unusual name.  Teachers butchered it and people still do.  My last name was also a source of confusion for people trying to pronounce it.  Or, should I say, not caring how they pronounced it.  I vowed when I had kids I would name them names that if they wanted to go to a stationary store and find something with their name on it, they could.

The Trials of My Common Name - True Story

When I was in High School a family with my last name moved onto our street.  We lived at 306 North, they moved in to 316 South.  The Father's first name was the same as my Father's.  Her first name and middle initial were the same as mine.  She had graduated from our 3 year high school the June before I started.  People kept seeing me places I had never been.  When I was in college a guy tried to call me during Christmas break.  He didn't know my phone number so just started at the top of the phone listings for our last name. Her Dad's middle initial came first.  When she came to the phone her voice was enough like mine that he thought it was me.  She apparently knew a Jim with a voice similar to his.  They went on a date. He told me about it when we returned to campus.  He said she could be my twin except I'm 5'10" and she is 5'4". We had accounts at the same bank until the bank charged her checks to my account once to often.  Our first cars were even the same make, model AND unusual color.

    Not fun.

My credit report has gotten crossed with my SIL's.  I think it still lists her old address as an old address for me.  UConn used to send stuff to me to her old house.  Not that I minded her getting their requests for money - lol.  Makes me uncomfortable that important stuff like credit reports (or bank accounts!) can get screwed up so easily.  Also scary - medical records.

Do you remember the baby name sketch on SNL - I think it aired around the time when we were starting our family and thinking of names.  We thought it was really funny.  http://www.nbc.com/saturday-night-live/video/baby-names/1354910

Talk about unusual names....................I named my youngest daughter (and the last of 6) Nicasia.........It was my SIL's sister's name...................I thought it was so unusual and pretty.................of course she got Nikki, from most, but many loved her name so much they called her by her proper name...........

I was hoping she would name her daughter that, but she said "oh no Mom, I had too much trouble with that in school, and will not do that to "Makayla" (name she chose)......I love it, but I love her name more.........anyway.......here are a couple stories of her plight through school

They always pronounced her name "Nik-a-si-a..........not a soft "c" that it was.............then she would get.........."Ni-cosh-e-a-....so I do understand...........although many got it right.

I called when she was younger to renew a prescription for her......when they asked her name, of course I said  "Nicasia" first

. the person on the other end said "ok, and what is her "first name"...........at that moment I felt her pain.........

I still never regretted naming her Nicasia.........love it till today.............and in this time of unusual names..........her's has become a "hit"..............hugs

My Mother was a career woman who even drove alone from North Dakota to Texas on business in the early Thirty's and hyphenated her maiden name with her "common" married name.  As a teen I once asked her why she gave me such a common first name and then got smart and give my brother an unusual one.  She actually said she knew I would change my last name when I got married and he would keep his common last name.

Oh Sheila - hope you feel ok.  Do not use a straw for two weeks.  Any "hole" in your mouth can get incredibly painful dry socket by using a straw to suck air into it....ok?
