I saw under one of the complaints threads (lol) lago posted that if you hold the ctrl key and press +, you can get rid of the empty bar on the left and the text will fill the screen. When I did it, then the blue box "menu" will appear at the top of the screen and if you click on it the menu that was in the left margin will drop down. That made me realize also that the menu is at the bottom of the screen as well. Interesting. I wonder how many other tricks there are that would make our using this site easier/better.
I have a gray bar on the left and the rest of the screen is a very light gray. A little harsh on my eyes. I liked the beige better. Some people say they still have beige - wonder what controls that...
Oh to be computer savvy...

Made haddock and salad for supper - trying to be healthy. Not sure it went over that well. Hoped they would get used to it, like that they are eating healthier, and just eat it. I even bought a lemon and cut it up. Husband didn't use the lemon. What's up with that? Does he not like lemons or something? I don't think the kids used the lemon either. There's just no pleasing these people.
I think I'm going to make this into a big poster and wallpaper my kitchen with it:

Sheila - sun is shining here with promise of gorgeous weekend. Yay! Go for a nice long walk, it is good for MH. So thrilled about your perfect heart. We all knew it was perfect anyway....
Last night, DH and I went to pick up our Mother's Day gift for our daughter-in-law......a rocker for the cabin. First, we picked up a chair at their house that they want to use up there too. Both chairs are fabric. We then started home and decided to eat at this little place we like which is a small house - it was a lovely night at that point. We sit down, we order and the owner says "you have the furniture in the truck, right"? Well, he tells us it is pouring rain. We have no tarp. He has us move the truck under a small portico so we can eat but the rain doesn't stop and we have a 20 mile drive home. Everything was beyond soaked - we have them outside in the sun hoping they will dry right now. Not the best gift if it smells and is wet....
-
I'll have the haddock please!!
So sorry Diane, what a bummer!
-
Hope the sun dries everything out!
I tried to get motivated to go for a run. Couldn't do it. Too cold and windy. And good thing I didn't go - it started to rain. Thought the rain was gone. I think I will do the elliptical now. At least I won't be cold... Such a wimp in my old age.
Hopefully it will actually be in the 70's this weekend. Hope I can burn some calories in the warm sun.

Weather here in the Philly area has been horrible too.................windy, chilly, rainy, did I forget anything..............................looking for the warmer weather................just turned the heat on............................they said down to around 40 tonight............
So pissed today with the stupidity of people............I turned in a CD on Ap;ril 17th. for $27,000.....after about 10 days the check did not come, so I called the bank, and they told me the check was mailed on April 18th................well it never got here............."Lost in transit" is what the bank said..........so, the told me in order for me to get another check I would have to get paperwork signed, and notorized......I went ballistic..........I did sign the paperwork, said I was not getting it notorized, and it was my money, and they better get it to me pronto.........well I sent the paperwork back with my signature on it, approving the stop payment on the "bank check", and the asshole called me the next day and said "we got your paperwork, but the signature doesn't match........I said "look moron, I live alone, my husband has been dead for 20 years, obviously he could not sign anything, so what would you suggest I do...................you have my f/n signature..........well they asked for a copy of my drivers license..........to be faxed to them..................them.....I said "my drivers license only has an initial, and my last name scribbled on the line..........nothing like my signature............the asshole insisted.............so I complied after telling him I had $ 145,000 that I was going to transfer from another bank to their bank since "at one time I really liked your bank", but now you are getting "shit"................and hung up on the guy....................well he called yesterday, said he got the paperwork, and the signature was fine..................I said "you my friend should really get another job", and furthermore your an asshole".............................he said "don't hang up on me again"...........I said "listen closely", and then hung up..........
They sent the check, it came today.........now are you ready for this......................they sent a $27,000 check by Fedex............and did not ask for a signature.............the Fedex guy, just sat it "on top" of the mailbox, not even inside........................I only knew it was here, because when I tracked it an hour ago it said "delivered"...............and I thought.........oh yea, to whom...................went outside, and there itwas sitting on the mailbox.......................completely out in the open.................
So I called the "friendly guy from the bank" 1/2 hour ago, and this is what I said "Sir, yesterday, I thought you were an "asshole"............today I am completely convinced "you are an asshole"..............oh, and by the way................you have company in that catagory..............the Fedex guy, who laid the $27,000 check on top of my mailbox instead of knocking on the door.........considering the front door was open behind the storm door..........................No signature, no nothing.......yes, you are the winner of "asshole of the year"............................especially considering it was a "mail issue" when this whole ridiculous story began...............so Listen closely.........I AM HANGING UP ON YOU AGAIN..............ok, I'm done.

Do NOT mess with The Duck.
-
Glad you finally got your money.
I still don't know whether I have a problem with my phone line or not. I was swearing at the phone company's automated system yesterday. They never give you an option to choose to talk to a live person. I wish they monitored the automated calls for quality assurance. Finally it misunderstood me (I was swearing) for the umpteenth time and said, "Representative?" I yelled, "YES!!!!!" And finally got someone on the phone to confirm for me that yes, they would charge me $60 if they determine that the problem isn't outside the house and is therefore inside the house - even if they don't come inside the house and/or fix it. That's what I suspected. So I said no, I won't have them come out and check it. (I'll just switch my phone service to the cable company and have them fix it...if it needs fixing.)
Only good thing was that the person I spoke to (and was not pleasant to) told me that even though the calls were dropped using different phones, that doesn't mean that it isn't an equipment problem. If there is faulty equipment on the line, even if it isn't being used, it can cause a problem. Well, our cordless phones are crap. I think one doesn't even hold a charge anymore and another often keeps saying "charging," but never fully charges. So maybe they are mucking up the works. I've disconnected them. Now to call someone and talk long enough to see if I still get disconnected...
I was doing research on cell phones and phone plans and saw that yesterday was the last day of our billing cycle so I had plenty of minutes to use my cell phone to fight my way through the landline phone company's automated system. Otherwise, I would have been angry to have to waste 20 of my minutes or more making that call.
They DO NOT make it easy to get service, do they...

Sorry I havn't been in here very much.We are in the process of getting my Dad more help at the assisted living. We will be setting up a meeting with VistaCare Hospice to see what they can offer and what he qualifies for. I am ready to FIRE the homecare company that helps my Dad 20hrs a week because all the owner does is bitch and complain how hard it is for them to handle my Dad and how they don't get any help from the CNA's that work at Nashoba Park. I feel like telling her if you can't handle the job let me know and I will find someone else. My brother hates her. SHe even had the balls to ask me if we have considered putting him in a nursing home. Last night we had a meeting with the head nurse and director of Nashoba and they don't particularly care for her. When I told her we are looking for a Homecare/Hospice to come in she got a little defensive and started saying that they will not toilet him or shower him and will only give a few hours. NOT!! this VIstaCare will give up to 8 hours if you qualify and Medicare may elect two 90 day periods or an unlimited number of 60 day periods. So we will see.
Time to take my happy pill
-
Me too, The Duck!! LOL, you crack me up!
Chris, phone companies suck!!! But then you know that!
(((Deb))) Please pass the happy pills!
-
Deb...i hope you find the right place for DAD
Happy Pill...life saver when it's needed....it saved me so many ER visits recently...........
-
The right place for my Dad is at Nashoba Park Assisted Living, that is his home and he calls it home sweet home. You can have homecare, healthcare Palliative/Hospice care, we want him to spend his last days there. He says he is happy there and likes living there.
-
Can he get more than 20 hours a week?
-
I'm glad he's happy there Deb. Thats Huge!!!
-
Hopefully he will be approved for Hospice from VistaCare.

Good Morning. I'm still hating this new layout!
-
Good Morning! It's Friday and going to be a gorgeous weekend. Beautiful sunshine, family at the cabin, and Mother's Day. DH had to provide DS with instructions re first Mother's Day. He seemed to think a card would do
-
A card is more than I usually get. That's why I thought the kfc commercial was so funny.
-
Deb- I hope everything works out with getting your dad the help he needs. My anxiety level skyrockets when I think about our parents needing that level of care. In-laws have no plans for what their next step would be if they can't stay in their house. MIL's knees are getting bad. If it gets to the point where she can't get up and down the stairs, I don't know what they are going to do. Their downstairs bathroom is too small to accommodate a wheelchair. I will have to talk to my father about what his plans are. I'm sure he has some, but if something happened to him suddenly, I wouldn't know what to do. I'd better find out, hadn't I. He's strong and healthy so I haven't really been thinking about it, but accidents happen... I wish our health care system addressed these needs better. More and more people need more care than they can provide themselves and there aren't enough ways to get it and it's too expensive. You blow through your life savings in no time and have nothing left. It's especially bad when one spouse needs a lot of care, they use up all their money and have nothing left for the other spouse to live on for the rest of his/her life. There has got to be a better way.

DD is graduating on my birthday. It popped into my head the other night that it might have also been my birthday when DD graduated from kindergarten. So I looked in the folder where I keep certificates and things that she's received and lo, it was my birthday when she graduated from kindergarten. Isn't that funny?
-
What a nice bday present!
That reminds me of my youngest sister graduating from College, on Fahters Day. We joked with my dad that that was the best present ever! He paid for 5 college tuitions and now he was done! No sooner did she graduate when the weddings started. lol!
