When I first met my future BIL (engaged to my sister) and found out he was a plastic surgeon, I asked how soon it would be before we were doing bone transplants to legs to make them longer. He said, they actually do have a method that works, but it's very painful and takes a long time. It also doesn't add a lot of length. The bone is broken and then set with a gap between the ends. The bone then grows together and is slightly longer than before. Break, repeat. Break, repeat.

Of course, no one would go through all that in both legs just to get an extra inch or two.

I have that muffin top around my hips...and two deflated muffins on my chest. Do they cancel each other out?

Boy do I have muffin top over my pants not to mention the oversized belly in front. At my exchange surgery Nov 2008, the ps did a little lypo on the fat roll under my arms but did nothing below the bra line. I shouldn't complain, he didn't charge me for that procedure. I really need to work and get rid of the excess weight, in 9 weeks I have a reunion to go to and I want to look good. My mom said that if I lose the extra 15 lbs I put on since my surgery my new boobs will really look great . . . not that they don't look great now. I know what she means, if I lose the belly my boobs will appear bigger.

Oh Nancy that sounds just awful - I guess I'll just by some bigger heels,

I just did the most dumest thing I have ever done, thank goodness the grandbabies were not here -talk about "potty mouth" I threw a load of laundry in (colored cloths -cold water) I know better than this, but just so much to do today I am rushing around this AM, anyway I jumped into the shower, had the hair washed, put in the conditioner and started the washing process,  OMG, I was blasted with the hottest water I have ever felt in my life, about killed myself getting out of the shower , the curtian is now on the floor which is soaked, I know better when the washer is going with only cold water, can't use the shower - can you spell IDIOT!! Anyway I am ok, no burns, the back side is a bit red but have lotioned it up really well.  I hope thats not an omen as to how this weekend is going to go.

We have a big annual barbacue planned for Sunday, (looks like it will still be raining however), it will be the first time I have seen BIL's Bimbo and spoke to her sense the "comment" (and her apology over the phone). They normally spend the night as they live an hour away and we do drink a bit, haven't heard if thats still their plans.  TEQUILA - LOTS OF TEQUILA.

Nancy, I missed your post about adding length to legs by breaking and braces. I saw it on the Discovery channel when they were talking about dwarfs and some of the ways the medical field has developed to make them taller and it didn't look comfortable at all. I was in traction for a month prior to my spine surgery in 1971 and I 'grew' 2 inches in 3 days at the start of the traction process. I think I grew about 4 inches in 2 weeks before they did the surgery. They kept me in traction for 2 weeks after the surgery to keep the spine from springing back to where it was. And believe me it was worth it for me at the time but I wouldn't do it again!

Cathi, that sounds like something I would do. Good luck this weekend with the bimbo.

Cathi, can't wait to hear the comebacks you'll come up with this time! I'd kiss your boo-boo, but it looks like you've taken care of it...Wink

Sheila, I used to LOVE being in traction as it gave me such pain relief, but it must have been so boring for long periods! Sheesh, weeks!

Does "loaf-top" sound familiar to some of y'all? To hell with muffins!

Barbe, when I was in traction, it was to relieve the pinched nerves in my spine and straighten out the double curve that was in my spine. And it did relieve the constant pain I was in. I couldn't get up at all. I had the halo screwed into my skull (little horns holding up the halo) and traction pins through the bone just above my knees. Then after the month in the hospital in bed they sent me home in a full body cast (neck to knees) with the halo still attached to my head and bars plastered into the cast to hold my head still for 3 months. Then a 2nd cast from my neck to my hips (3 more months) but no more halo and I could move by myself. So BC surgery was a piece of cake compared to that summer I was 11 and in a body cast.

Ivorymom - great comeback for the Bimbo.  Have lot's of tequila, Cathi!

I don't think I'd want that procedure done on my legs.  I'm way to wimpy for that!

    Wow, Sheila!

Thanks for putting the muffin top into perspective.  The top is my favorite!

Barbe, when did you think I learned to quilt? Actually, I didn't quilt then but I did other needlecrafts as well as alot of reading. My surgery took place in March and I didn't get out of body casts until the end of September. In my 2nd cast I sewed the 2nd level 4-H project - a blouse. I made a pesant style blouse and modeled it at the county fair in August and got an honorable mention ribbon for my modeling (I think that ribbon was a sympathy ribbon). I think I got a blue ribbon for the sewing. My parents tried to keep me as active as possible, I went to church every sunday, went to vacation bible school (got the award for most verses memorized), went camping with the family (got sunburnt on every inch of exposed skin), went to the youth Church camp mornings for the classes (2 weeks after I was in my 2nd cast).

I forgot while in my 2nd cast went on a road trip with the family from Ohio to Iowa to visit some friends for a week. Iowa was having a heat wave (temps close to 100) and our friends house wasn't air conditioned. We spent alot of time sitting at the mall and when we wern't at the mall I was parked in a recliner in front of a large box fan to keep me cool. Our car wasn't even air condtitioned. We didn't know we had it rough but looking back on those memories you wonder how we made it through. In Ohio our house was an old farm house without air conditioning, but the house was up on a small knoll in the middle of the farm and there was always a breeze blowing though the open windows (even at night).

Good Morning, well not morning for most of you, but it is early yet for me....8:20 a.m.

Of course Im at work but only for a few hours...then off for the long weekend.

Have any of you had experience with spider bites??? David got bitten on May 13th, it looked like it was healing and normal for the first few days then it swelled huge and puss pockets started to form on the skin...he went to the doctor Monday, May 28th and took the antibiotics and steroids that they prescribed but the moment he ran out of meds it swelled huge again, moving farther up his wrist and arm as well as many more pockets and is now broken open and seepy...yesterday he went back to the walk in clinic and they gave him a shot in the fanny and a different kind of antibiotic.....this morning it is WAY WAY worse!!!!! I tried to get him to go to ER instead of this crappy walk in clinic but he thinks he should wait another day to see if this new stuff is going to work....What do you ladies think?? Should I take him to dinner this evening and end up at ER????

    Thanks

    Jule

I used the long ice tea spoons from tupperware to scratch the itches under the cast. the knitting needles were not flexible enough to use.

Barbe I have given new meaning to the words "Hot A$$".  It has started out to be one of those days -OMG, not only have I burned my A$$, I put some potatoees and eggs on to boil to make salad for the weekend, well wouldn't you know the phone in my office rang, I knew it was an attorney I have been playing phone tag with for days -OF COARSE, so I quickly turn on the burners, the potato burner was fine, after being on the phone a few minutes - I smell the smell - I had turned on the back burner for the eggs and my burner covers are on fire -  God - this attorney is a big blow hole, keeps on talking just to hear himself talk, I am trying to hurry him through his agenda he finally hangs up and my kitchen reeks of scalded metal, I NEED TEQUILA NOW. LOL.

Can't wait to see what the rest of the day holds, pretty funny when I think about it - but I guess no playing with matches for me today.

Hey Jule no experience with Spiders but when Alexcis was 3 she  got bit pretty badly by red ants on her butt, she swelled all the stuff you explained about the spider Jaclyn took her to DR, she took antibiotics for a few days it cleared then the very same thing you say happened to David happened to Alexcis except dwn her legs, went back to ER, she had a terrible staff infection from the bites, she ended up in the hospital for 5 days.  Not to scare you, but I have heard some spider bites are REALLY REALLY SERIOUS.

GOOD - HEALTHY WISHES FOR YOU AND DAVID

Cathi-I know they can be serious and so does he but he is trying to be the tough guy I think.....I was shocked that he even went to the doctor the first time, but this has been very painful for him and I think he is actually a little scared too....I showed him some pics of spider bites on the net last night as well as some pics of staff infections....Im postive it has gone to staff, but I have no faith in the clinic that he went to so am very concerned that they are not treating him with the right meds...heck the doctor there told him to use moist heat instead of icing it!!! It was already swollen huge and after the heat it got REALLY big!!!...

Im thinking dinner in town will be in the liquid form for him tonight!!!!!!!

Oh Jule he needs to go back to a DR, not the stinky clinic, gosh why do men have to be so darn "MACHO" at these times, I swear Ed could cut his arm off and just put on a bandaid and say it would be alright -UGH.

Well if he won't go - tell him I highly recommend TEQUILA  -Lots of TEQUILA.

    XOXOXOXOXOX

If he doesnt go I will tell him we are going to dinner and drive him to the ER if I have to Innocent

I dont want to worry about this all weekend...hmmmmm, maybe Im on to something there......Im going to call him and whine that this will absolutely ruin my weekend with worry....he hates it when I worry.....think the guilt factor will work?

Jule, it may be an infection, or it may be a reaction to the antibiotic.  Either way, the ER you trust seems the way to go vs. the clinic you don't.  These things always seem to happen right at the start of a long holiday weekend when it is harder to get them adequately dealt with don't they?

Cathi, stick to things that are iced, not heated for the time being!

OMG Cathi-I just read back about your morning....although you have had me in stitches laughing I want you to BE CAREFUL GIRL!!!!! I think you should stay away from anything that has heat/flame involved for the day!!!!

It has been quite the AM, and unfortunetly I have a great deal of cooking to do. I was scared to death to remove the pot of potatoes from the burner to drain them - but al went well - YEAH. Ed told me to wait until he got home later and he would help cook (he loves cooking) I should have listened and I for sure will never take a shower again unsupervised- HA-HA.

Jule I hope David stay to stubborn to long. Thinking of yeah, yes all the bad stuff does seem to happen over long weekends. Oh and it's ok to laugh, I am laughing at myself right now too.

    XOXOXOXOXOXO

Thank you for the concern Barb....Ive decided if he wont go on his own then I will either guilt him into it or surprise him into it Innocent

I really dont want to have to worry about this all weekend.....it could explode into something really really nasty over the weekend and Id prefer NOT to spend the weekend in the hospital with him.....

I'll never understand why men are so stubborn about going to the doctor.  As you all know, my DH (notice it's in all caps) thinks things should be "toughed out".  Stupid!  Jule, I would do just what you said---take him to dinner and then to the ER.  What's he going to say once you're there?  He won't have a choice but to go in if you refuse to take him home.  Sometimes we have to stoop to these sorts of tactics.  Anyway, I hope his infection clears up and you enjoy your long weekend!

Cathi, you're having quite a time of it today, aren't you?  I'm sorry, but I just had to giggle when I read about your morning.  I'm glad you didn't seriously burn yourself or hurt yourself while scrambling out of the shower.  I'm also glad you didn't burn your house down!  LOL!!!  Have fun with the tequila and the bimbo this weekend!  Can't wait to find out if she's learned her lesson and will keep her big pie hole shut!

I enjoyed the muffin top conversation.  My muffin top has turned into a loaf too, Barbe!

Well, my laptop is totally dead (it was just the touch pad before, but now the damn thing won't even charge).  Portia is ALWAYS on her computer, so I guess I'll talk to you all on Wednesday since the kids have Monday and Tuesday off.  It's just as well, I guess.  We're expecting a gorgeous weekend and I have lots to do out in the yard.

Happy Memorial Day everyone!!!  Love you all!

    Hugs,

    Karen
