Sue, It is hard to wrap your mind around losing part of your body all at once. When will you be fitted for a prosthetic? It will help your self image, even if it is just a 'rubber boob'.
wren, I have put up a thistle feeder in my front yard, it is a mesh 'sock' that the thistle seed comes out of. the birds hang on it and pick the seeds out of the holes. I have seen as many as 6 finches/orioles on it at one time. I like using it because the squirrels leave that seed alone.
To all my wonderful sisters, where ever you are, have a wonderful day.

Sheila ... I love finches!!
I am not sure when I will go for fitting...I will have to initiate it...I have talked before to Claudia my bc nurse ... and just talking about it wrenched my heart.... I tell people I am not bothered ..but I guess somwhere deep down its all a muddley mess xxx

in 2005 after my first lumpectomy for ADH (pre-cancer) I was extremly lopsided (a cup on left and c-cup on the right) and qualified for mastectomy products. I got some mast bras with the pocket to hold the 'rubber' boob to fill out the small cup. After my 2nd lumpectomy in 2006 on the right I was still lopsided and still wore the boob. I have put the boobs up in their boxes for a year now. You will get to a point when you can move on and grieve the loss. I have been fighting this bootface since 2005 and finally beat it. Sometimes I still miss my 'original' boobs but am glad that I don't have to worry about what the next mammo will show. My mom thought that I was crazy to get the 'rubber' boob because nobody noticed it except me. I though could not find bra's that fit the lopsided boobs. I would either get one to fit the small boob and let the big boob hang out or get one to fit the big boob and let the small one swim in the oversized cup. you will feel much better when you get fitted for your new boob.

Yes Sheila ... you are so right... I will sort it out...I will ask tomorrow too.... you are absolutely right...I know I will feel much better... we have spoke about this a while back...and if anyone...you always give me motivation on this... I am going to make this my next direction ... and get it done and dusted...thx so much Sheila xxx
I hope you're office is warming up now.... xxx

Sue, it took me a while to get used to my foob. It felt heavy for a while and my wound had LE in it so it wasn't all that comfortable. When you are first fitted for a prosthesis, they tell you to 'break it in' by wearing it just for a short time before taking it off. You lengthen the time you wear it gradually. I was so glad to have a nice shape there again that I wore it for too long to start with! Now it feels very natural to me.

First, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MEL!!!!!!
Then, where is Ulla?
Now, Sue, Lovey, EVERYTHING will bother you for awhile, don't feel too bad if the first few days of your vacation you just sleep, there will still be time to do things that are fun.
I think with the mental aspect of this whole thing thrown in, a good 6 weeks might see you feeling very good. Remember, now is the time to get a Vit C (1000mg) daily, a very good B Complex, 500 units of D EVERY DAY. You will feel better a lot sooner, and drink, honey all you can hold, that flushes out the stuff better than anything. And do get a foob, you are so tiny and lovely, you can find all kinds of cute things to wear. And you need to sort out this back (I am sure it is work) and arm issues. Find out or figure out what is going on.
I have had a very peculiar thing happen. 9 Years ago, when I had my lumpectomy and axillary removal, and it all healed, my two tatas were different sizes, but only a little, not at all noticeable. My right was always bigger anyway. THEN, for my son's wedding I lost 49 pounds, became a life member of WeightWatchers, etc, etc. Of course, as is my habit, as soon as the wedding was over, I put the weight back on. NOW, the right breast is twice the size of the left. I think I got what amounts to a liposuction on the left one (the cancer one) with the surgery, and the right one just had the fat cells deflate. SOOOO when I re-gained the weight, the fat cells in lefty were gone but righty just grew and grew, I look so lopsided it is ridiculous. You know those tops that criss-cross and look so cute? Well I have tried them on, and they all pull over to the right, where the big breast is. They look awful!
So, I am most unhappy, but I don't want any more surgery, even if they offer it. No more. So here I sit, like I might fall over on my right side and cannot get up.
Oh well, such is life. Still waiting on my computer, snuck on Walt's.
Hugs and kisses to all my dear sisters, Shirl

I feel for you over your dx.I think its normal to be shell shocked, to this day I really cant remember what my doctor said, but I remember sitting in my car and sobbing and feeling so confused, and like it was the end of the world. But i've moved on and I know you will too.Theres really no miracle formula,.....just take each day one at a time.
You will win.

shirlann, As I said in my post to Sue, you can get a 'filler' foob. It is thin (think chicken breast cutlet) and fits over the small boob to match the big boob. I wore one after my lumpectomy on my small side for 2 yrs before my bilat mast. Sinced you have had breast surgery, your insurance should cover the cost of the bras as well as the foob, mine covered it even before the cancer dx because I had a lumpectomy for pre-cancer. The lady that I got mine from filed the paperwork with the insurance and if you had met your deductible for the year, she accepted what the insurance paid.
I also want to echo - ULLA Where are you?
