Nancy , Ann , and Ulla , Thank you for sharing your stories. So riveting and heartfelt. And you all made me think of John Lennon , and his song Imagine. I wish it could come true. Hugs to you all. Ulla , I pray for you , your family , and all the people of Iraq. I hope truly soon , you can all live without fear and pain. You truly are an inspiration to me.xxxx
AE , that sounds like it was a great concert! And yes , I think you and UB are soulmates. You know , I have heard that phrase soooo many times , but until I ment you and UB , I now know what it means.xxxx
Hi Sue
! I'm soooo glad that your day at the new place didn't suck!
And I'm not surprised that customers are following you! I would too.
Soon David and Daniel will be on summer holiday , right? So you will be able to have some extra time with them. I hope so. I know when I got divorced , I had to go full time and I missed my boy so much. But the time we did have together was even more special. It is true about quality time. Hey , hows the chippendale doing?
OK , I know you are sleeping right now , so hope to catch you tomorrow. Love you Sue.xxxx
Hi Lisa , I am sooo glad you got your hair done , and you love it! I bet you look great. Hasn't the weather been awesome lately?! I will be picking up the yard tomorrow and maybe mowing the lawn on Sunday. But I think we are gonna get some rain. So we will see...Hows our little Oliver doing? Hes' such a sweetie. When you post a pic of your new hair do , get Oliver in the pic too!xxxx
Hi Jane , When is moving day? I bet you are so excited. I would be. Do you and your O/H have alot of furniture to combined? Maybe a yard sale before you move? One thing I like about moving ,is that I get rid of alot of things I'm not using. Hows class going? How much longer do you have? Oh , I have some pics of Lilly , and will be posting them. I hope after you get all settled in to your new home , you can get a dog or cat.
Everyone , I have some news , Lilly is getting a sister! She is just two weeks old , so I won't be getting her for awhile. She is black and white.
I just think , from having my Edwina for so long , that she could of used another cat to keep her company. So someone at works cat had kittens , so I decided to get a companion for Lilly. I hope they get along. We shall see...
Hi Judie , hi Jule , hope you two are having a good start of the weekend. Jule , hows Libby doing? Hope she is good , and you guys are bonding well.xxxx
Hi Shirlann! Soooo glad you are back. Sorry you are having some computer problems. Can't wait to see the pics. Hows the fur babies doing? Hope all is well with you and Walt.xxxx
OK ladies , I am going to go and post my pics of Lilly.
Love you all. Melody

This is lazy Lilly,
This is a "very" close up of Lilly , I don't know if you can see , but she has such pink lips , she looks like she has lipstick on!
This is Lilly in her "Princess play palace"
See how pink her lips are!? So funny
My honeygirl on the catwalk! xxxx

Oh Mel...I love the pics of Lilly!! Her lips are really, really pink. A pretty color of pink too! That is awesome that she is getting a sister!! I am sure they will get along just fine.
I will have Olivia take a pic or two this weekend and show me how to download them on here. I just can't believe that my extremely curly hair is straight right now. It really makes me feel like my old self.
Well..long day, and I am working all weekend...so I am off to bed.
Love to all of my dear sisters!!

The pictures of Lilly are great, Mel. She even has her own palace! You are such a wonderful mommy to her. How exciting that she's getting a sister! I wish my dh liked cats. I'd love to have a black and white one....or maybe a siamese with beautiful blue eyes. I guess I'm destined to be a dog person. I really want a pug, but the damn dh doesn't like small dogs! He hates our little Tinker. I'll admit that she's a pain in the rear end sometimes, but she really is pretty sweet.
G'night everyone! Sweet dreams.
Hugs,
Karen

Wow Mel! What a sweet kitty Lilly is! I love her pink lips - such femme fatale! She's also a princess with her own palace. She is so lucky to have you as her special human! I love the marmalade bits on her head. She is what we call a tortiseshell - I think they are also known as calico cats? I read somewhere that such cats are nearly always females. I had one once called Samantha and she was such a sweet cat.
Yesterday, the kids from next door came in to give me a letter they had written me - it was so cute! Their little tabby kitten came in with them. I knelt down and patted him and he was so friendly and sweet. The children went home and I came back inside. Next minute Charlie (the kitten's name) was hanging half-way up my screen door, yowling to come in! I went out and told him he should go home and he started purring and rubbing his head against the screen door. I felt like catnapping him!
Karen, I have heard that pugs are such sweet little dogs - very loyal and loving although I haven't known one personally. Most men seem to like biggish dogs - more macho! I like them in any size but I have my heart set on a whippet - preferably a black and white one but I have a feeling they would be quite expensive. I have read up on all the breeds and a whippet sounds like just the sort of dog I want. They are said to be very affectionate, enjoy exercise but love to curl up on a sofa with you. There's a great website called "whippetwear" and the dogs are wearing the most gorgeous clothes - they are parading on a catwalk (ha ha!) like supermodels. The clothes are pretty expensive though so I would have to try to make something similar as whippets feel the cold.
Settlement is this coming week on the mountains house. My o/h is taking a couple of weeks off soon to help get my house ready for renting. It's an old house (cute but run down) and needs lots of repairs so it's going to take some time to get everything up to a reasonable standard.
I am on 2 weeks holiday from my classes. I can't say I am enjoying it all that much. I love the social aspect - my classmates are such a great bunch of people but the subject matter is often very depressing. I live on the edge of an area that has a high rate of unemployment, crime, drug abuse, teen pregnancies and child abuse. It's very sad and every week we have had guest speakers who trot out the miserable statistics. Usually, it's a case of generation upon generation of unemployment and degradation, too many children, illiteracy and hopelessness. I hope that I can be of some use somewhere...one of these days. My neighbourhood is an unusual mix of wealth and poverty - the haves and the have nots. My neighbours on one side fit the latter category and even though I have supported them as much as I am able, they are still in a very hard place. I feel particularly sorry for their children and their numerous animals - both are neglected and yelled at from dawn to dusk. I hope I don't sound patronising - it could have have been me in such a predicament - divorce, single motherhood, 3 kids...but I had parents who valued knowledge and hard work so I was one of the lucky ones. But even now, there are educated people who work hard but end up losing their homes and have a hard time so it's a tough life for so many people.
I think the most important thing is that people be enabled to help themselves. You can't just give handouts as it just causes dependency and a downward spiral. It's often easier said than done though.
Anyway, sorry everyone for raving on. Look at where we are up to - nearly 200 pages of posts! We are a "talkative" lot!
I am going to a comedy show tonight and have been up since 5.30am so I am going to try to have a catnap.
Hugs to all,
Jane

Oh, Mel!!! I love Lilly. I hope she loves her sister.
Ulla, your story is gripping. We hear all kinds of rumors and stories, but your words come from experience. Thank you so much. Please keep bravely sharing your thoughts and your story to all the world. We all need the quiet heros like you to give us hope and strength.
My daughter's ex was Afghani. He left as a young teenager during the Soviet occupation. I learned so much from him and his family. The book "The Kite Runner" was almost the story of his life...the age of the main character, the status of the father, the escape under frightening circumstances.
My memories of the "big" days in history tend to be vague on specifics. On 9/11, whatever else went on, I do know that I was glued to the TV and radio. One or the other was playing in every room of the house. I was in shock, horrified for all those people, all those families, all those brave fire, police and medical officers. And I was frightened. The world at that moment shifted forever.
Congratulations, Karen. We've got to find a time to celebrate one of these days. I'm now in a situation where I don't have to worry about babysitting. I'm free as a bird! I wish we were closer...I'd offer to take your son off your hands for a few hours. I'm a renowned kid spoiler.
Shirl, I think maybe you uploaded your pictures to Photobucket in a small format. You can set up what size you normally want in your preferences. I use 800 x 600, which might be a bit large here, but when you post them you can make them whatever size you like without losing quality. Does that make sense? I think you'll have to upload them to Photobucket again in a larger size. Let me know if you need help.
I would venture to guess that a lot of you like to spread a bit of cheer. Sometimes it pays, as I discovered yesterday. I was at a large home improvement store. It was busy as always. As the clerk rang me up, I asked her about her day, we talked about her schedule, its benefits and drawbacks...just small talk. As my total came up, she said, "Just a minute. You're not going to pay that. I'll cancel it out." She then dug around in an envelope and found a coupon that had been mailed out as a promo and which I had never seen. It was for $10 off. That was about 1/4 of my total. She scanned the coupon, redid my total, and said, "You made my day and I want to make yours a little better, too." I just love encountering people like her. The money was nice, but connecting with a nice person was the real reward.
One final story...all of this is off topic, but who cares???
In my wanderings on the net one day, I ran across a site related to Native American tribes that included a conversation about traditional reservation foods. There was a recipe so strange I just had to copy it to try someday. Well, I did the other day. Because the recipe was so strange, I planned on tasting the result, making a face, and tossing the rest in the garbage. The recipe was for "Vinegar Rolls." You basically make a baking powder biscuit dough, roll it out, sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar, dot with butter, roll up into a log, slice an inch or so thick, lay them close together in a square pan...
All normal until now, you say??? Well, while you've been doing the above, there is a pan with water, a LOT of cider vinegar, sugar and cinnamon boiling away on the stove. You pour it over the pan of rolls. There's a lot of it! Then you bake the mess.
OMG!!! I loved it. I know, I'm deeply disturbed and off my rocker and all that, but I really liked the crazy things. The liquid stuff turns into a thick substance somewhere between syrup and pudding on the bottom. It's sour, but sweet and tasty.
Sorry if this brings on nausea for anyone.
I'll close with collage of all my furbabies. Only Agnes was able to come with me. I miss the rest SO much! Maggie was my best buddy. Sunshine has since died. He was very old for a canary, so it was expected.
-
LOL!! I think Jane and I, on opposite sides of the globe, were hit at the same moment with a writing bug. I loved your post, BTW. So poignant. How I wish we could do more to make life better for people who struggle so much. It's people like you who do make a difference. Hang in there.
Judie
-
Oh Judie! My heart is breaking for you. All those precious furbabies. I bet you miss them. Maggie is so beautiful. But the one who gets to me is Dorie. Oh those eyes. Thank God for precious memories. Give Agnes a big kitty hug for me.xxxx

Oh darn! This was such a cute e-mail , I wanted to share it with everyone. Maybe I'll try to send it to photobucket and then post...

Nancy - before I forget -
Hope you have many, many, many, many, many, many many, more!!!!

Nancy - happy birthday!! Hope you have a wonderful day! I get the feeling though, it's an all weekend birthday celebration - I think you said in a previous post that you were going out with friends on Friday night. Anyway, I hope you are having a wonderful time. Hugs!
Oh Judie - what lovely animals (and bird!). I agree with Melody about Dorrie's beautiful brown eyes - so soulful and intelligent. They are all beautiful and you must miss them so much. I am so glad you still have Agnes - she looks a bit like Lilly! Same marmalade (ginger) patch on her forehead - sooo cute!
That sweet lady in the shop - how nice of her to give you the discount (but then, I am sure that you must have been really sweet to her first). You probably did make her day - and then she made yours! I
How interesting about that recipe! I can imagine that it would be yummy. I mean, apple cider vinegar tastes better than normal vinegar. I like the sound of tangy and sweet. Isn't it fun trying new recipes?
The sun is shining again today - such a beautiful, golden morning and my huge liquid amber tree in gorgeous autumn colours. I love autumn!
Love to everybody,
Jane xxx

Anybody seen this video? It's so cute! http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=laughing+quadruplets&search_type=

Judie, I love your story about your experience with the girl while you were checking out. Kindness always goes far. It actually made me think of my Mom. She would always say, to give a smile and a hello to everyone, you never know when something that simple may cheer them up or just simply make their day. You are a kind and caring person...and see..she appreciated it and she gave back to you! Love it!!
Jane...can't check out youtube..still at work, I will have to look later.
Fall is my favorite time of year...I bet you are enjoying it.
Just wanted to check in with my dear sisters and say hello!

Hi ladies , hope you are all having a good as can be , weekend.
Jane , loved the video. Too cute. I'm sorry your classes are a source of depression. It is so very sad. As you said , if you just give , sometimes it doesn't help in the long run. Sometimes they just need a break , like a job that can help them. I swear , I don't know how people can make it , making minimum wage. And if you have no skills , that what you have to work for. Maybe giving them paid training is there best bet. It is so sad.
Judie , your story reminded me of "pay it forward" , its so good to say and do positive things. Its contagious!
Hi Shirlann , OK , we have pictures!Yeah!!! How about a story from your trip? I'm all ears. Is that guy in a boat? I can't tell because of the plants. Shirlann , it is sooo awesome the places you go and the things you have seen and done. You are trully an amazing women.
AE , love the avatar! What a sweetie.
Hi Sue
! Hope you're having a relaxing evening ,oops , it is late there , hope you are sleeping and that your ses' aren't to bad. Just remember , two more , and then no more! Love you.xxxx
Nancy , hope you're having the best birthday "weekend" ever! Let us know what you did and how it was.xxxx
Hi Lisa , you should be home by now. Hows the "new do" holding up? Do you have to straighten it daily? I wonder as my hair gets longer , will it still be curly? hummm...
Hi Karen. I had over 1,000 emails! I just haven't been reading them. And I found your emails and left a message on your "wall" on facebook. Sorry for being such a slacker. I will try to go to my email daily now , I just get so much "junk" mail it drives me crazy! But now its all cleaned up. Hows Chase and Portia doing? When does their summer vacation start? Did you find any house plans yet? Will you build in the same area that you live in now? How exciting for you. And you never know , maybe when you get your house built , you can get an outside kitty. Would hubby be OK with that?
OK ladies , take care , Hugs Melody

Hi Melody, I am here. I had to get away from the "Moving Beyond Cancer" thread for a while. I started a new thread there, and I think I lit a fire. Ha! I am glad your doing very well. Yes, I do understand about the lack of motivation. The exercise I get mostly is at work. And, I love my sweets! My Glazed donuts. I love them! Yes, take those baby steps and work up from there. That is with anything. And, thank you so much for keeping me in your prayers. It is just something that needs to be done. I will always be here for you. And, you are a very special lady too. God knows we have been through it all. I will check in soon. Bye.
God Bless You,
Kaloni

Hi Sue
! Thanks for the kind words about my "little terror" she is sooo mischevious! Her mom was a tortise shell , dad was a tabby. She has his markings on her head/face mixed in with moms. The kitten I'm getting is mostly black with some white. This should be interesting...
Thank you Sue also for posting Shirlann's pics. Shirlann, they are fantastic! What little creature is that , that you are holding? Oh such fun. I'm pretty sure I will never make it to the amazon , so I thank you so much for sharing. You help me to see things I never would have. And now I can see the boat the man is in. What is that , that he is hauling? Looks like you and Walt had a fun time. And the food looked scrumptious!xxxx Mel
