Hi Jackie, Kaloni and Mel. I have been away from here sooooo long! Sounds like we've all been so busy to say the least.
Jackie, I was just going to post when is your DD's wedding and you answered it for me. You must be SOOOOOO busy. I know we are and it's our neice whose getting married on Sept. 1 in Brooklyn. Can't imagine preparing for DD's wedding. So much to do! Don't remember if I mentioned that my DH is walking Amber down the aisle b/c her dad passed away in 2000. Actually he took his own life 7 yrs ago today. I just realized it's the 17th today. It seems like just yesterday, but yet so long ago. Amber has a sister Trinity that is her maid of honor. They are very close to Mike-their "uncle-dad" as I've named him. It will be a very emotional day for us all. I can't wait to see Mike and my kids and my beautiful neices all dressed up. I'll try to get some pictures.
I just went for my preop on Wed. and YES-it really is going to happen!!!! YAY!!! I was so afraid the PS would say he couldn't take 500 gms minimum from each side as the "wonderful" ins. co. requires. The PS can't guarantee what size I'll be, but he thinks he can get me down to a small B-I'm a 40/DDD. I will be so glad to maybe get some pain relief. I have been having such bad back and shoulder pain on my left side this past week it's almost unbearable somedays. I walk around when it bothers me and that seems to help. I was in a lot of pain when I saw the Dr and he says that this surgery will probably help alot. I just pray that my surgery goes well on the 23rd and that everything in both breasts is B9. The dr said I would be fine to go to Brooklyn as long as I take it easy and take my pain meds when I need them. He also said I should be ok to take care of the 6 wk old baby by the time school starts back up. I am keeping my fingers crossed that everything heals without any problems.
I am so happy to hear you guys are done with your treatments. I know I pray a lot for you. You all are in my thoughts every day.
Well I've got to go. My DH and I are going with some friends to Cooperstown at 4:00 to ride a "blues train" and have dinner. Never have done anything like that before. Sounds like fun.
Take care. I'll keep in touch.
Jackie-have a BEAUTIFUL, WONDERFUL day tomorrow and post us some pictures when you can!!! Sounds like it will be beautiful weather.
Love, hugs and prayers. Keepin' the faith...Dawn

Hi There, I was just reading over some sweet messages here. Dawn, I am so glad your going to have your surgery on the 23rd. Great. You will be fine. And, Jackie I hope the wedding was nice. I am sure it was. It is alot of work getting there though. Melody, I hope your doing good too. I am just layin back and relaxing today. It has been so hot here, that I stay in the air conditioning. I have been getting in the pool and doing some laps. Workin my left arm. It is so amazing that I have made it. This is 10 weeks. My booby is wonderful. He has gotten a little tan with the suit I am wearing. I try to keep my incision covered up from the sun though. And, using lots of sunscreen. They say I need to be careful for about a year with my incisions getting any sun. Well, I guess, I will go for now. I will check in later.

    God Bless,
    Kaloni

Hi Kaloni. Sounds like you're really taking it easy today. I don't know how you stand the humidity there in FL. I guess you're used to it. When I was down there caring for my DMIL I could not believe how hot it was. I would just get out of a cool shower and be sweating before I even dried off and that was with A/C! It its nice down there though when it's so cold up here in the winter. Wish there were only 2 months of winter here and the rest was summer LOL! Sounds like you're really healing well and taking good care of yourself. I am so happy for you that you got your reconstruction done so soon. It's miserable to have to wait so long.
I am really getting nervous and anxious to get this surgery done. I will be so happy and relieved when it's over Thurs. I will hopefully feel like a new woman and not have the pain I have been having so long in my left shoulder and back. I am praying that I heal quickly and don't have any infections or open areas in my incisions. I will be keeping my fingers crossed.
Well gotta go get ready for bed. Tomorrow I will have 3 of my little girls I watch during the school year (including) the 4 wk old baby! I can't wait. I'm like a little kid. I just love babies. Can't wait for my own grandkids. Better get some rest.
Love, hugs and prayers. Keepin' the faith...Dawn

Just checking in b4 I get too busy. I spent a wonderful day with my 3 little girls. The baby is sooooo sweet. She's 4 wks old and so very precious. She sat in her little bouncy chair on my kitchen table and stared at a little shelf on my wall that has a little girl with a sunflower and a bumble bee sitting on a slice of watermelon I painted years ago. She just stared and squirmed and even smiled at it! I thought maybe she had gas, but later when I put her out there again she started to smile again. Baby's are definitely what us women are here on this earth for. They are such little miracles.
I really needed to have them here yesterday. I was on the phone half the day with PS office, ins. co. and the hospital billing dept.! How frustrating it is to get answers. My ins. failed to tell me that even though the dr and anesthesiolgy is covered 100%, the hospital is out of network, so we will have to foot the bill for that! I tried to get a ball park figure of how much and no one would give me a straight answer-"we don't know until the surgery is done"! I talked to DH last nite and thought he would say nevermind, but he listened to me and said I was worth it and if I have to make "booby payments" that's what we'll do! I love that man so much!
Well I'm off today after a few hopefully quick phone calls. Have to do my food shopping so I can hibernate for a week or so and recuperate.
Take care all. Don't know if I'll be back on here again b4 surgery. Tomorrow I go to Saratoga Raceway and hopefully keep myself from getting the jitters about surgery.
Love, hugs, and prayers. Keepin' the faith...Dawn

Hello Dawn, I sure hope everything went well in your surgery yesterday. This will help you so much I do think. Before you know it your going to be back to normal. I am doing just fine. I visited my plastic surgeon yesterday, and he is getting me ready for the second phase of my booby reconstruction. That is a booby lift in my right booby. And, my new nipple for my new booby. Thank God these are only outpatient surgeries. It never ends does it? But, my appointments are starting to be fewer than before. Well, you get your rest and recover well. I will be thinking of you. I will talk to you later.

    God Bless,

    Love,

Hi ladies. Dawn , I hope all is well and you are healing nicely. Please let us know as soon as you can how things are going. Kaloni , sounds like all is going well for you and your recon. I am suppose to see my ps in October for what he said would be for my nipple recon. But I am concerned about the difference in the size of my breasts. He made my recon. bigger than my normal. My right breast is a D , and my left a C. Which makes it hard to buy a bra. I mostly wear my sports bra. He talked before surgery about a lift on the left and I thought he said he even out the breasts if need be. But the last time I saw him , he seemed happy with the way they looked. Not me. So will see...
Jackie and Kaloni , are you two taking tamoxifen and was it a hard decision for you if you are or not? I'm just not sure if it is worth the SEs' and complications. I hate these decisions. Well , I hope everyone is having a good weekend. I am going to a graduation dinner for my Son today. First time I will be wearing my wig! It is so hot and humid here. If its to uncomfortable I'm gonna scarf it! C-ya later. Hugs, Mel

Hi ladies! I'm here. I'm quite sore, but not as bad as I thought I'd be. Got home yesterday afternoon. Dr took over a pound from each side and I can already feel the difference. Don't like this yucky draining stuff though. He put some kind of surgical bandage that "seals" it so I can shower, and I can't do anything to it until he sees me on Wed. to take my first set of stitches out from under my boobies. Then the following week he takes out the ones around my nipples. I can't wait. I'm hoping I don't get too itchy.
Well take care all. Know I'm thinking of you guys. Luv ya lots! Thanks so much for being here for me.
    Love, hugs and prayers...Dawn

Hi Sweetie, How are you doing? I am doing very well. This is my 12th week already. I can not believe it. I just seen my Plastic surgeon regarding starting the second phase of my reconstruction. They are supposed to call me back regarding the day of my outpatient surgery. This will be for my right booby lift. They will do my new nipple after I heal from this. You too? Boy, you have good of both worlds with your breasts. Ha. Melody, no I am not taking any hormone treatments like Tamoxifen. I am a triple negative. I know all this stuff can be confusing, but you will sort it out. I hope your son's graduation dinner was nice. And, forget the wig. Just go bald. It is actually more beautiful. Well, I am going to go for now. Have a good evening. I will talk to you later.

    God Bless,

Hi Ladies. Just trying to catch up. They took some of my stitches out last week. some on the outer parts of both breasts on the bottom incision. I still have the "T" stitches and the ones around my nipples. Boy are they itchy. Guess that's a good thing. I go again this Wed. to get hopefully the rest of them out. Last Thurs-the day after I saw the PS for the stitches I started having a low grade fever and I felt really poopy so I called the drs office that evening. They phoned in a script for antibiotic-cleomycin or something. It must have been good b/c I took it that night b4 going to bed and the next morning I felt a lot better. It's a good thing b/c we had our nieces wedding in Brooklyn and we had to leave Fri. morning to go to the rehearsal dinner. I had SSSSOOOOO much fun. It was hard to "take it easy" but I did the best I could. We went to a nail shop and got manicures and pedicures with my niece-my first time. Boy was it nice getting the pedicure! Then we had the dinner and got to our hotel about midnite. I thought I would have a hard time sleeping, but I slept like a log. On Sat. morning we went to the hair stylists shop my neice goes to and we all had our hair done even the adorable flower girls ages 7 and 2. She had a beautiful Greek wedding (she's Italian and Irish-quite a combination). The photographer took pictures of everyone at a park near the Brooklyn Bridge with the bridge as a backdrop. It must have cost Amber a fortune, but God are they going to be beautiful. It was such a beautiful day! We got home yesterday at 4 and yes I was a little tired (slept most of the 3+ hour ride home, but I was fine today. I am however developing a rash around my left nipple. I was worried at first, but when I looked in the mirror I realized it is in the shape of the dressing that was covering it for a week. Maybe all the moving and the sweat got it irritated. I will make sure the dr can tell me what to do to get rid of it. Boy it hurts and itches at the same time. I left my surgical bra off for about 3 hours today after my shower with just a t-shirt and it felt a lot better and was less red. Now I have it back on and I can feel it getting irritated again. I don't dare leave it off for very long as they told me it is very important the first few weeks to keep the new girls supported. I'm keeping my fingers crossed and praying they will heal without anymore problems.
Enough about me- you ladies sound like you've been very busy. Kaloni best of luck to you with your upcoming surgery. I will be sending healing prayers out to you. Jackie I hope your expander behaves itself this time and you have no problems. Will be sending healing prayers to you too. I will put a "bug" in my dh's ear and let him know. Any idea the date yet. That would be a beautiful trip. Keep me posted. Melody hope all is well with you. Glad your son's dinner went well. BTW I actually didn't have any drains with my surgery. PS said it looked so good when he was done he didn't put them in. I have no drainage at this point. The day he removed the dressings, I had the tiniest bit in the crease of my right breast and that was it. I just can't wait to get the rest out and hopefully get rid of this annoying rash.
Take care all. I'm off to bed. Big day tomorrow! I have my little ones for the first time since summer break for the teachers. I can't wait but I know I'll be exhausted. I will have all 4 kids I usually have plus the new baby (6 weeks) but I know the older kids will be good for me. They know Dawny has "booboos" so they will extra good and careful. They are a bunch of really good kids. I will miss the 2 oldest ones when they start school on Wed. SNIFF. I know I'll shed a few tears when they get on that bus.
Good nite all. Lots of love, hugs and prayers. Keepin' the faith...Dawn

WHOAA!!! What the heck happened here? You think they would have posted something to let us know about the overhaul of the site. Wow! I hope this post does not take up as much room as it seems to be while I'm typing it. Just thought I'd check in with everyone and say hi. I am healing well. Done with the stitches. Dr said I can start wearing a sport bra. I tried today and was so happy to have the freedom of not having the surgical vest, but after a few hours I had to go back to the vest as my bottom incisions started to look very angry. So I will have to be patient.
Hope everyone is well and am looking forward to hearing from you guys.

    Take care. Keepin' the faith...Dawn

What in the world happened here? This is more confusing than before. Ha. I think I like the old set up. Well, we will get used to this way. Sorry, I have not been here in a while. I been a little busy. I did go to see my plastic surgeon, and were getting ready for the second phase of my reconstruction. I will be having my right breast lift on October 17. Then, after that my new booby nipple will be put on. I am really thankful these are small surgeries. I am surgeried out! Ha. Yes, each day looks better for me and much brighter. Well, I will go for now. Have a good evening, and I will check back soon.

Hello My ladies, Where is everyone? It sure seems like it has been

a long time since I heard from you. I know this new discussion board is a little different, but I will get used to it. Melody, I sure hope your doing well. You were going to start your hormone therapy. Jackie, I hope your feeling better with your new expander. And, Dawn I hope all is well with your surgery healing. Me, I am doing good. Just good. You know it is sometimes hard for me moving beyond the cancer thing. I been feeling a little down this week and really do not know why. I am just confused about some things, and find it a little hard moving on. Well, tomorrow is the first day of Fall, and I am so happy for that. It was a hot Summer. Before we know it the holidays will be here. This is my favorite time of the year. I guess I will get back to my relaxing on the couch. Ha. I sure hope to hear from you soon. Your always in my thoughts ladies. I will check back soon. Bye.

Hey Kaloni. Must be not much going on with everyone. Glad you're here still. I have been healing pretty good. Am still having trouble after 4 weeks getting a sport bra on. They are so very sensitive now. It doesn't take much to make the scars angry and red so I keep wearing this horrible surgical bra/vest. I guess I need more patience. I keep spitting stitches so am hoping that soon they will be a thing of the past. I'm finally sleeping in my own bed with a wedge pillow. I am back to watching my little ones everyday and the baby keeps me quite busy, but it doesn't seem to be bothering my healing any. I sure hope you are feeling more like yourself. I can't imagine the ups and downs you must go thru. I know my friend had total mastectomy on both sides a few years ago had some ups and downs, but she is doing great now. Keep your chin up. Try to find the positives in everyday. You must be so relieved to have Sept. here being in FL in the hot weather. Have you had much bad weather as far as the hurricane season goes? My DMIL's home seems to be doing ok in Holiday FL according to DH's aunt. I know how hot it is down there in the summer. It's got to be hard to deal with the heat and humidity. I know when I cared for my DMIL a few years ago I had a very hard time with it.

But it is beautiful down there. I'd love to be there from Jan. to Apr. Maybe someday! Well take care. I am thinking of you and the other sweet ladies here often.

    Keepin' the faith...Dawn

Hi girls. I'm here. I just have been busy , when I come here , I start reading posts , and then I have to go and keep telling myself next time I'll write you all. Ok , so this time I am.lol My SO had surgery this past Wed. and came home Sat. He had surgery for his PAD. They did both legs. So he is having a rough time getting around. And taking pain pills. He feels alittle better each day. Today he is getting around better and is using a walker. So today I mow the lawn , did laundry , cleaned and did dishes and made dinner. Tomorrow back to workFrown. Oh well, I am just glad I have a job and can work!

Kaloni , I feel down too sometimes. Its still a roller coaster ride at times. Right now , keeping busy helps me alot. And concentrating on my SO is taking my mind off me. And last Sat. I went to see my son. That was fun. He always makes me feel better. So hang in there girl. I hope you feel better soon. Happy fall! Soon , you'll be having the lovely weather that I'll be wishing for! Although , with the hot flashes I'm having I'll probably jump in a snow bank!lol On the up side , My hair is growingLaughingYeah!!! I can't wait till no more scarves.

Dawn and Jackie , hope you both are feeling better soon. Dawn , I'm sure you'll be feeling better. I remember the "sensetive" feeling with my reconstruction. Healing takes time. But at that time , you just wish it would hurry up! Well, I'm gonna go pack my lunch for tomorrow and get the coffee ready for morning. Ttyl. Hugs and prayers , Mel

hi Ladies! Kaloni , I hope you have a safe and nice visit in Jasper. I hope Mike's dad is feeling better.

My SO is recovering from his surgery for PAD. Both legs are very swelled from fluid. So he still has alot of pain. But he is getting around alittle better. He went to see his doc Mon. and they ultrasound his right leg , and they said the "new" artery/vein is working fabulously. But it really hurt him to have the US because they were pressing on his staples. So , this Mon. they will take the staples out and US the left leg.I hope it is good also.Jackie and Dawn , how are you ladies doing? I hope all is well with you both.

I saw my onc Wed. and all looks well. I don't have to go back for two months now!Laughing But these hot flashes from the tamoxifen are driving me crazy. Yesterday , I counted , they were happening hourly! I asked my onc about them , and he said to give it a couple months to see if they stop on their own. If not he will then give me something.

Well all , have a great weekend. Hugs Mel

Well, I sure hope your other half will be feeling better soon. Yes, our trip was nice. It is so nice to go to the country every once in a while. I will be having my right breast lifted tomorrow. It will be nice to have it even with my new booby. I had my bloodwork done last Wednesday. And, the nurse called me back and told me that my tumor markers were a little above normal. So, I need to have more bloodwork in December to just be safe. Naturally, I am worried my cancer as come back somewhere else. I take a deep breath now, and just wait. Let me know how your doing with the hormonal treatments. I will talk to you soon. Have a nice day sweetie. Bye.

Hi,  Just want to let you know, I had my surgery yesterday, and it went very well. I did not know they had to move my nipple up. Wow! I was wondering how they did this. My right booby is now even with my new booby. Ha. I have to keep my bandage on until next wednesday when I go for my follow up. I just have to be careful showering. Well, it is resting for me today, and probably all weekend. Have a good day, and know I am thinking about you. I will check back soon. Bye!

And, the suture tape is starting to come off. Oh well. I go for my orientation for my new job tomorrow. It sure will be different now. Well, I guess I will go for now. Your all in my thoughts. Bye.

Hi KaloniSmile! I'm so glad to hear your surgery went well and you are healing nicely. I wouldn't worry to much about your tumor markers. I know , easy for me to say , but I have read alot about the markers going up and down. So I know its on your mind , but again try not to worry. Wow , I would think having your nipple moved would be painful. I'm glad they look good. Yes , get lots of rest. It really helps the healing process.

I went for my 6 month mammogram Fri. Everything was fine. The tamoxifen is giving me lots of hotflashes and my period has stopped. I go back to see my onc Nov. 28th. I am going to ask him to remove my port. I'm not sure how long he wanted me to keep it , but I'm ready for it to be gone! Good luck on your oreintation tomorrow. I hope you enjoy your new job. You deserve happiness always. And thank you Kaloni for always being there for me. You have been there from the begining of my journey and I appreciate you so much. Take care , Hugs and Prayers , Melody

Hi Kaloni , How are you? I haven't heard from you and am hoping all is well with your recovery. How was your job orientation? Are you working?

Well , I hope all is well with you. Boy , we haven't heard from Jackie and Dawn for a while , I wonder if it is because of the new board style.

I'm doing good. Just lots of hot flashes. I hate them. I see my onc Nov.28th. If they haven't stopped by then , he said he would give me something for it. Well , hope your having a great weekend. Hugs and prayers to you. xxx Melody

Thank God I finally figured this out again!! I kept reading about once a week, and then all of a sudden I could not get on to respond. It seems they've changed my password for some reason.

So glad you got your surgery over Kaloni and are recuperating well. Hope all is well with your healing and your new job. What type of work is it? You take care and I hope to hear from you soon.

Melody it's good to hear from you too. At least your period is one less thing you have to worry about now.

I have not heard from Jackie in ages. I emailed her quite a while back but no response other than jokes forwarded, etc. Hope she's ok.

I have healed very well from my surgery. I go back next week for a checkup. My nipple sensitivity has finally gone away. It felt like someone rubbed sandpaper on them for a while!!

I just found out this morning that my dear sweet Uncle Ross passed away at 4am. He had bladder cancer. He was 83. He had lung cancer about 20 yrs ago and had part of a lung removed and did very well for a long time. About a year ago he started having problems and they discovered the tumor. Him and my dad were so close. They looked like twins! He's joined dad now and I know he is in a much better place  but he will surely be missed by us all. He was such a sweetie!

Well gotta go. The baby is crying. (she's Uncle Ross' great grandaughter)

Take care ladies. Glad you're doing well.

    Keepin' the faith...Dawn

    I'mmm baaaaack!

Hello my lovely ladies, I am so sorry for not posting for awhile. I seemed to be on this downward spiral for awile, and things have settled down again. About a month ago, we had to put our beloved dog down. He was old, and had a heart murmer, then a blood clot got loose, traveled to his hind leg and paralyzed him. We knew it was coming soon, but nothing ever prepares you to have to do that. It broke my heart, literally. Then my expander started having issues again, and I had to have emergency surgery on 10/16 to remove it. Then 2 days later, had surgery to remove the ovaries. Friday had a herceptin treatment. By saturday, i felt like I had been run over by a truck(preferably a Harley!) Anyway, i have been to all my post-op appts last week, next week I have another herceptin on Tuesday, an appt. with the plastic surgeon on weds to discuss my next surgery on January 17th. We will do a tram flap, to the problematic left side, and by golly this will work this time!! Then Next saturday 11/10, Jeff and I leave for a much needed break to Florida, down by you kaloni! we will be in Naples for a week. So enough about me and my troubles, Kaloni, congratulations on the new job, that is great!! I am so happy for you!

Melody, how is your SO? Hope he is on the mend.

Dawn, i have gotten your email, but my computer had a crash. i just got it fixed 2 days ago. I am at work right now typing this.

Again, i am sorry, I have been thinking about you all. I promise to keep up with you now I am back on track. I love you all, please stay in touch, and find your good thing for the day!!! Jackie
