Ruthbru, I find that cleaning out myclothes closet is cathartic. I've done it at least three times in the last few months, whittling down my wardrobe and being brutal about it since I'm planning a move to a tiny loft. The pile of expensive bras is about to go in the Goodwill bag. Guess I'll keep two, as I can put Knitted Knockers in them and "pass" but doubt I'll ever want to.
-
Hoping that the mild weather we are getting will continue and I can start hauling down more warmer weather clothing. That would surely help me out with keeping my workouts going
-
Lilac. . .great advice and will check out that link as I'm hoping to get back to weight lifting, but have truncal LE. Maybe not m over the head but any weights are better than nothing. My PT emphasizes that more reps over higher weights is best.
Karen. . .kudos you have alot on your plate. We keep saying we want to empty nest but we'd miss them. I just want my two in local apartments and maybe with a grand puppy to borrow for walks and hikes.
Bareclaws. . .I find closet thinning cathartic as well. Since we bought ds new furntiture this past weekend, we now have enough big items to join the subdivision yard sale at months end. Time to have the kids start going through closets for more to sell.
Thanks for the tips on dvr yoga. I now have several as soon as I get the okay. Could do the breathing/relaxing exercises now.

Well, I learned that yoga is a phenomenal. In my case, it is self taught super slow routine based on all the wonderful PT exercises. I have been doing it at least 90 min a day. That is besides real walk around the block about 20 to 30 min a day. I know I am blessed to be a bum at home. Right now healing is the only thing on my mind. I will worry about finances later.
It has been only a few days but I saw my underarm swellings go down drastically today.

Welcome, Reba!

Mary, sounds like the Nationals had a successful opening day. Who threw out the first pitch? I am glad to report that the Minnesota Twins beat the Royals 7-1 for their first opening victory in nine years! Hope springs eternal!!!!!

I was missing my DD#2 today and telling DH that its been a long time since I've gone a week without talking to her (the camp she went to in middle school, only got to talk to her on visiting day). I think I was missing her more as I knew the trip was coming to an end!! Well, she made my tell with her text telling me she was back in Israel. It was about 4:45 am Israel time. Don't know if she had even been to sleep yet. Hoping she calls me tomorrow!!
First day back...it was nice to have some time to catch up on paperwork. As always I never get as much done as I think I will. Met with my intern today. She wants me to do her evaluation next week. I didn't do one in the fall as I had not spent enough time with her. Not looking forward to completing it.
Totally unproductive night tonight other than my nightly walk with DH. Oh well, the best of intentions!!

Today is my first day back at work! I'm going to squeeze in some yoga before I head to the office in case I'm completely wiped out by the afternoon.

Been absent from here for a couple of weeks or so, how this board flys by. No catching up, I'm just going to jump right back in. My winter weight gain is official, been traveling a lot (NYC weekend with grandkids, Nashville with hubby, DC this coming weekend with girlfriend) and therefore eating out a lot and not in a healthy way. And so out of the exercise habit. I did 3 laps in the neighborhood yesterday (about 3 miles), and we did do a lot of walking in NYC and Nashville, but back at home I am becoming a bit of a couch potato. Plus thru this all our dear friend has become incredibly sick - first diagnosed as flu, then diverticulitis. We stopped in to see him after NYC trip and he was so dehydrated he couldn't even stand (he lives alone, and told all who called that he was "fine"). Thank God we stopped in - took him to ER and he has remained at the hospital - he has developed some weird infection, not responding to antibiotics, spiking fevers, they now think it might be fungal infection, yesterday he coded and he is now in ICU. This was a pretty healthy 57 year old, life can change in an instant. Anyway, the stress of that is making me eat whatever I see, and have too many cocktails before bed. Empty calories that give me a headache, so I vowed to at least cut out the cocktails, and try to get some more walking in my life to start with to relieve the stress. Of course, it's pouring here today, but I do have a gym membership (which I have not used in months!), so I hope to get over to the treadmill and walk for 3 miles or so.
-
Yikes Pat, that goodness you stopped to see your friend. Hope they can get a handle on his health issues. Very scary!
I vacation-ate too much this winter also, so am chipping away at the extra pounds. Yes, go to the gym and skip the cocktails.....you know the drill
I just did a FIRM DVD called Rock Solid Abs (a girl can dream) and am about to do a cardio DVD, then I will drop off two large bags of clothes at the Salvation Army (there should be more but I ran out of closet-cleaning steam) and sub this afternoon.

I am cleaning closets, too. We don't have much of a winter here, but I have a winter wardrobe. I just don't need it like I did before. Our winters have been very mild that last 3-4 years, so I didn't wear much of it. Now that I have retired, I don't need as many clothes. I have two rules I live by when it comes to clothing: If I buy a new whatever (blouse, skirt, pants, etc.) I have to get rid of a like article of clothing in my closet and when I get ready to rotate (fall/winter for spring/summer), anything that was not worn that season has to go (exceptions are: I keep the only sweatshirt I own, Holiday tops & vests and the shrugs I wore over my sleeveless dresses).
~bearclaws~
Do you like your Knitted Knockers? I have an Awesome Breastform that I wear everyday.

Going to workout in a bi

breastcanceryogi. . Wow congrats on being back n at work. You're doing great.
Pat sending prayers for your friend.
Exercise today - biannual dental visit and walk about Sam's Club after Iinch with Dh. At least trying n to eat healthy when out and at home. Managed to "help" Dh make gluten-free fried pickles last night. Not terribly healthy but I've missed that treat.

Only had time today for a fifteen minute fast run on the treadmill. Yoga tomorrow afternoon with the moms. We are inching toward spring break here, but the eighth graders I teach are getting there faster than the rest of us. Crazy town middle school!!
-
Snow on and off today....in my part of town no measurable snow, but south and west of Denver lots of snow. We need the moisture so not going to complain, but my snow boots are leaking, so i need to look for mew ones for next year. Socks were all wet when done my nightly walk with DH. Short on steps today, so far only 13.5K today. Didn't get out during work today, then I had class from 4 - 6.
My day started off so wonderful. While driving to work, DD face timed me....She asked if she should call back and I said NO, I could talk while driving and didn't have to look at the phone. I think we talked for 1/2 hour. i got to work, parked and stayed in the car and kept talking. I was so happy to hear her voice and see her. but she looked so tired (it was 5:15pm her time and was running on lack of sleep). She is really the most amazing and wonderful 19 year old (not that I'm biased or anything). She was telling me all about trip to Poland, how she grew during the trip, about the letter I wrote to her from her dad and me and how much she appreciates me and how good our relationship is. I wish I could have recorded it!!! Just to have and save and listen to over and over. I know I've done a good job when my children tell me that I've always supported them in what they do. Yes, I'm a very proud mother to 3 fantastic kids. That's not to say that they don't give me headaches, but I'm so grateful for our relationships. But then again, my DH and I both have good relationships with our mothers and our fathers when they were living. I know some people don't have relationships with parents as they are toxic, so I feel very blessed on both sides.
Thanks for letting me brag!!
Labs were all within normal limits so NED for another 6 months!!!
Sweet dreams
-
Congratulations on the lab results and the kid results too, Karen. It is gratifying when your kids grow up to be people that you really like (you love them no matter what, but to like them too is extra special!)
Boo Hoo, I am subbing tomorrow instead of walking with my ladies (as a favor for a teacher friend going to a funeral). I should go to bed so that I can keep up with 7th graders with spring fever (although, Falconer, you are right, 8th graders are the worst this time of year!).
-
Karen, terrific results on lab work and also nice to read the depth of your joy and love for your family. Breastcanceryogi, yoga is amazing for recovery, I agree with Scottiemom for how quick you got back to work and nice that the swelling has gone down. Hope this week is a smooth transition back. Pat, life can and does change in an instant, so agree with you on that. Gyms depend on paid monthly - unused memberships, do try to use it and enjoy. Blessed, we have a terrific crossfit gym-community where I live: http://www.crossfitgreatstour.co.uk/what-is-crossfit . That is where my PT and instructor friends belong - where they go to keep fit and love it. I've got a book you may like called: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/13594266-becoming-a-supple-leopard Not a cancer rehab book yet known as the bible for crossfit and perhaps you already know of it.
We enrolled our son on a Easter revision physics course that started yesterday, at a private school in Tonbridge, that is similar looking to Hogwarts. This is for his uni exams that he will sit in May. His physics teacher has been out a lot this year due to bad back, so continuity on that subject has been low, hence his mock exams result was low. I drove him in yesterday morning and the roadworks were hellacious, so he is taking the train from here on. Coming down the home stretch on my case study. Nice spring weather here, fresh yet sunny.
Body balance tonight.
-
It's National Walking Day so I grabbed the grand-puppy after work and took her for a brisk walk (there was SNOW falling earlier this morning!). I will go to yoga tonight.
-
I am still doing my self taught yoga. Today is day2 of #2 chemo. I forced my self to do 2 hrs very slowly. I know the next two days will be rough. Hope i can do some tomorrow and the day after

Hi all: I've been down at the beach and in the rainforest in Costa Rica, just got back and trying to get back into things. Knees are giving me incredible trouble the past few weeks, combination of arthritis and the AI. It made the plane ride down and back challenging...moving around helps, but also hurts, so it becomes sort of a vicious cycle of moving, resting, moving, hurting, not hurting :-(
However, I did do a few good hikes down there; it is a beautiful country. Did a bit too much sitting on the beach and drinking rum drinks, however, and gained two pounds. Time to get back to it. Going to concentrate on swimming for a while...
Good to hear from all of you and to catch up. Keep it up!
Octogirl
-
Thinking of you, Reba.
Send us beach and rainforest pictures, Octo. Your knees will appreciate the swimming!
-
Karen: congratulations on your lab results! Loved hearing about your conversation with your DD.
Reba: take it easy the next few days. I will be thinking about you.
Octo: sorry you are dealing with arthritis in your knees. Would love to see pictures from your fantastic trip.
Hi All. It's been raining on and off for a couple of days so no outside exercise for me. Instead I've been painting. DD saw a cute watermelon door hanger design so I thought I would give it a try. I had the wood and I cut the shape out with my bandsaw and prepped it for painting. I'm looking forward to hanging it this summer.
-
Reba, Please remember not to be hard on yourself during treatment. Listen to your body. Good luck tomorrow
Octogirl, yes post pictures please. When I was on Arimidex I had horrid joint pain, especially in my knees and hands Couldn't sit for long periods either. Feel better.
Been having trouble getting out of bed in the morning. Been staying in bed till 6 which is really pushing it. And this morning DD#2 texted me to call her when I got up, so of course I did. She had questions on filling out her W4 for this summer and another financial form. By the time we got off phone, I didn't get a morning walk. Did get out at work. I left at 3:30 and went for a 45 minute walk. The weather was gorgeous this afternoon, in the 50s, blue sky and sunny. Then I walked to the grocery store as it is almost as fast as driving but enjoyable. After dinner walk with DH, so I managed to get my steps in.
Have not been productive at all again tonight. Just too wiped out to do anything. I know I will regret it this weekend. Ne d to remember to make time to see Mom on Friday and on Sunday. DH is going over tomorrow morning when they bring a sample wheelchair. I'm across town tomorrow and would spend too much time driving. If DH couldn't go, I would have figured it out to be there. My Dd#1 and SIL arrive Sunday late morning so they will go see Mom.
Sweet dream

Karen- it's so good to hear you speak so well if your children. How fortunate they are to have such a loving mother
Wonderland- sweet artwork- and even sweeter that your cat is in the photo- perfectly poised. Looking forward to summer too.
Octo- lucky you- hiking in Costa Rica. My son was granted a trip there last year w his grandparents. And this year my daughter is flying down with her boyfriend and his family. Maybe someday!
Ladies, one thing I love about this thread is how your perspectives often show the good in things, even when you're feeling tired or achy from treatment. In that vein, came across this article and thought you'd appreciate it:
"A Positive Outlok May be Good for Your Health"

Have a fabulous day!

Good article, Falconer!
I did The FIRM's 500 Calorie Workout DVD and cleaned the house. Finishing off the taxes is on the docket for tonight.
-
tuesday was 45 minute body sculpt class (mostly lower body) followed by 30 brisk walk minutes on the treadmill. Today was 50 minutes early this morning on the treadmill (DS woke me up at 5am with a text telling me he was at the hospital with kidney stones - my poor baby 😔!) so I decided to workout. Then after work to ight it was body sculpt again followed by 30 minutes on recumbent bike.

Here is a Costa Rica pic...

And one more...

I have been without Internet at home for almost a week, oh my, you don't realize how much you play on the internet till you don't have it.
Have kept up with my exercise did Cardio Dance Party Monday - Sprint and Body Flow express Tuesday at the Y but I am depressed as these classes have been cancelled so the instructor can concentrate on his karate classes with the kiddos but Sprint is coming to another gym I go to soon so I will be able to keep up with it cause it's my favourite class at the moment. Body Pump yesterday and Body Combat tonight.
Wonderland that is so cute and very creative

Not that I wish anyone extra pounds, but reading everyone's account of their winter weight gives me a bit of comfort knowing I'm not alone in picking up some extra pounds.
Opening Day was wonderful. I love all the pomp and circumstance of OD - the giant flag on the field, the Thunderbird flyover, the player introductions, the Racing Presidents, and of course the game! And with all the walking I got in over 16,000 steps. Ruth - they had a representative of each branch of the military throw out the first pitch(es). And your Twins are undefeated and tied for first place in their division - hooray!
Not much exercise the rest of this week, as I've been doing all my pre-op stuff before my shoulder surgery next Thursday - physical, bloodwork, x-rays, and MRI. Also, since I have lymphedema and (of course) the surgery is on the affected arm, I've had to get with a LE therapist to get some pre-surgery treatments and to get advice on a game plan to minimize flare ups from the surgery. I deliberately consulted with a LE therapist located at the hospital where I'm having my surgery. She's going to try to work with the surgeon to see if we can arrange for her to wrap my arm or at least get my night garment on me while I'm still under the influence of anesthesia, as getting those things done require a lot of movement which I'm sure would be painful if I tried to do them at home once the anesthesia wears off. It may turn out that it's medically inadvisable to do anything like that right after surgery, but at least the therapist is willing to ask. As always, BC is the gift that keeps on giving.
OK, now I want to go to Costa Rica!!!!!
Pix from OD:
My new friend George Washington:
Giant flag on the field during pre-game ceremonies. You can't see it in this pix, but the very top of the Capitol is visible behind those buildings beyond center field.
DH and me enjoying the victory:
