Ruth. . .she looks amazing. What an inspiration. Yoga is still on my list for this recovery, but I have to find a true beginner's class.

Ruth- thanks for the inspiration. I read about her in the newspaper recently, I think. She only drinks tea or wine. And she almost always wears heels, as I recall. May we all live to the beats of our own drums! May we all live to be as old and graceful as Tao!

It was a very nice, very 'spring' day here. I subbed in the 6th grade (which really does "count" as exercise!) and took a long walk with a friend and three dogs.

Falconer, my favorite yoga pose is when you lie on the mat at the end doing nothing .

Bareclaws, there is a lady who used to come here sometimes who is a great hula hooper. She goes to conferences and retreats all over the country (she is fine, just doesn't post anymore). You could google some routines on utube and/or if there are any groups/classes in your area.

Here's the article I saw a little while ago:
    https://www.nytimes.com/2016/11/26/fashion/tao-porchon-lynch-oldest-living-yoga-celebrity.html

"To this day, Ms. Porchon-Lynch drinks only two beverages: tea and wine. She does not drink water."

"Ms. Porchon-Lynch showed up for the shoot in a red ballroom dancer’s flamenco dress and high heels. He questioned her choice to wear spikes to a park, and she told him she only wears high heels. 'She said they helped elevate her consciousness,' said Mr. Sturman, who ended up carrying her through the muddy park."

    Lol!!

I saw her story on the news tonight. She's in better shape than people half her age!

Cold, rainy, damp day in Denver. Rain and snow again tomorrow. We really need the moisture so I guess I shouldn't complain.

The saga with the wheelchair for Mom continues. It had me really stressed today. Ready to switch companies, as it seems like we are starting over. Not even sure what we ordered 9 months ago is even right for Mom now. Hope to have answers tomorrow

    Sweet dreams

Claire your pictures are truly magnificent. Sending you a big hug Karen you are a wonderful daughter Welcome Bearclaws, look on YouTube for hoop workouts _Ann_ was an amazing hooper its great for your core and its funny as what was simple and easy as a kid is darned hard as we get older, I used to able to keep that hoop twirling for hours as a kid but now its two or three rotations and it falls to the floor. Scottie look at PBS, I DVRd a "Yoga for Beginners" program that was on here locally on sunday night (it was on at 2am) it may be on their website.

Mpnday night did a Cardio Dance Party class and last night Sprint, BodyFlow express followed by our last class of LM BodyBarre as the trial is over, I am truly going to miss that class

For those looking for beginner yoga classes: I've been rehabbing at home with videos from Yoga Today and have made wonderful progress. You can filter classes by skill level and instructor, among other things. My favorite instructor on there is Adi Amar.

Cheryl and breastcanceryogi. . .thanks for the tips. I never thought to check DirectTV. So far, I have found a couple of beginner programs set for DVR. I'll be able to begin some this weekend and can add in arms in a month.

hbcheryl, I did a couple of YouTube hooping workouts this morning as well as "my own thing" for awhile. Great for arm range-of-motion work after BMX! I only had to to avoid chest hooping.

hi all and welcome bareclaws. Hooping, how fun! I can't do it anymore so admire those who can.

Been walking at lunchtime, pedo says 36,105 steps = 17.1 miles since last post.

breastcanceryogi, please check out this thread and resources on guidelines for safe exercise (incl yoga) for those with / at-risk for lymphedema - pretty much all of us. There's info for you and your instructors. Starting slow and listening to your body are GREAT!

    Pretty picture Ruth.

Went to the dentist this morning to have an old filling refilled. Then brought one of my cats to the vet for her rabies shot and wellness check up. Came home and spread 50 bales of pine straw. I'm so sore now and hope I can move tomorrow!

Fifty bales, Wonderland, you mow it and spread it big! Thanks Ruth & Falconer for discussing Tao Porchon-Lynch. I became aware of her a few years ago from reading in a yoga magazine about a women who instructs with her. My inspiration for sure! Welcome Bareclaws and you are one of the the few who can get active so soon after surgery. No many hoop classes where I live and good luck in finding one. breastcanceryogi and Scottiemom, here is a dvd from Breast Cancer Yoga: http://www.breastcanceryoga.com/Yogaforbreastcancerdvd.html Cheryl, rolled out #76 last night, and off on end of track 7 and end of second sun sal, as I forgot if I had done 3 or 4 rounds - arrgh! Working today on making no mistakes on cues , thereby nailing all of it for class tonight (although going from floating half moon to flower pose is killer). .

I'm doing housework catch-up while new drum is being fitted into our washer. What a mountain to get through..a week and half - eek! Sunny, hazy spring like day -windows open - nice change and lamb like ending to March.

I've been off the board for a few days, and as always a lot to catch up on.

Karen - I feel for you what you're going through with your mom. Like so many others, I've been there with my own parents. I look back now and wonder how I did it, but somehow I did. You will too.

Welcome, bareclaws! Nice to see another runner here. I'm not a "real" runner in the sense that a 5 mile run would count as a long run for me! I didn't start running till a few years after b/c, and I'm a confirmed back-of-the-packer. But I love running, and I love my little community 5K and 10K races.

Claire - beautiful pictures!! Wonder - 50 bales - wow! No wonder you're sore. Lilac - I love hearing about your classes from the instructor side. Instructors make it look easy for us participants, but I see how much work you have to put in to make it that way.

    Happy Belated Birthday, Cheryl!

Ruth - can you believe that Opening Day is Monday?
I've been pretty good about hitting the fitness center, my strength/flexibility class, and my yoga DVD. I'm having shoulder surgery on April 13 (scheduled for after Opening Day, of course. I scheduled my chemo around Opening Day too!). I have a malformed bone in the shoulder that's causing issues. Three cortisone shots and lots of PT have not relieved it, and two different surgeons (including Johns Hopkins) have recommended surgery as the only alternative left to relieve the pain. Sigh.

A nice gentle yoga DVD that I use is this one - Yoga, Gentle Practice. It's available on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0012KK6QU/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It has two series - Series A is very gentle, and Series B is a little more advanced, but still quite gentle. You can choose from 30, 45, and 60 minute sessions, depending on the time you have. She's very clear about her directions, and if a pose is new to you, there's a video pose guide where you can look it up to make sure your form is correct.

Yes Mary, Opening Day is upon us! Blah on the shoulder surgery. How long of a recovery period do you anticipate? I was just to the doctor too. I have a prolapsing uterus.....yuck......there are four levels; 0 means everything is where it's supposed to be, 4 means nothing is where it's supposed to be. I'm at 2 so I can wait and see what happens (50/50 chance it will get worse) or I can have a hysterectomy (at the time of my choice as there's no hurry). So, I have some thinking to do. Aren't bodies fun???

I just got done with 45 minutes of toning, subbing this afternoon and am planning to walk after that.

yay for Opening Day! Mary, who's going to throw out the first pitch at the Nats game? The Pres said he won't.

Bummer on shoulder surgery. Hope it relieves the pain. Your DH will step up to the plate to take care of you.

Ruth, sorry about the prolapse. At least you have time to consider options. Per WebMD, lots of us are at-risk.

Just saw my doc for the annual check-up she insists on :-) before renewing levothyroxine script. Bloodwork done for that, cholesterol, and a comp metabolic panel. Asked her about Reclast and told her the little I knew: it's a med that doesn't build new bone, it keeps old bone from breaking down. (Gotta say I love this doc, she keeps her smart phone handy and looked it up while we were talking.) She confirmed that and didn't see anything that would contra-indicate so would support onc's recommendation. However, I've read some really scary things about Reclast SE on The People's Pharmacy website, an NPR source I trust, so not at all sure I want it. Would rather go to a gym and lift weights. Plus working downtown Madison now, there's a yoga studio just down the block. Will look into that as I prefer a group experience versus solo so haven't practiced in a while. The classes here in podunk are all during the day.

Raining and cold here today so no walking outdoors. Need to get a few things done then headed to Stoughton to see America's Favorite Cowboys, Riders In the Sky. Yee Haw!!

Scottie: Wow and thanks! I haven't been called awesome in a long time. Actually, I was a woman on a mission. I knew rain was forecast for today and Friday and I wanted to get the pine needles spread before the bales got wet.

Ruth: I had a prolapsed uterus also. And I had some uterine bleeding when I was on Tamoxifen. Plus I wanted to get rid of the ovaries because I was estrogen positive. So 2 years after my mx, I got a hysterectomy and 3 weeks off of work! It was the best/right decision for me. Good luck deciding what you want to do.

Badger: I love Ranger Doug! That man can yodel.

Nats: I wondered where you have been. Sorry about needing shoulder surgery.

As predicted, I am pretty sore today for spreading pine needles. The soreness is working its way out. Plus my walk/jog I got in before the rain really helped.

I am in NYC for a holiday/business trip. Did a 5k run around the Reservoir this morning. This is in addition to hauling my carry on bag through the subway and up many flights of stairs. Quite good upper body work the way the "fare beater" turnstiles were designed (don't ask).

About to dig into a chicken soup I made for my friend who is down for the count with the knock-you-on-your-butt thingie that is going around. Lots of veggies in it as well as a whole chicken. It's cooking down right now, and the wild rice needs a bit more time. Super delish and fresh.

I also bought her daffodils to brighten things up as she is under doctor's orders not to go outside until better.

Just signed up for the 40 mile course of the Tulip Pedal which is in 2 weeks. Think I had better get my bicycle out Singing

Back to my soup!!! Happy exercising. - Claire

    Wonderland, what is pine straw?

NatsFan- my DH has been a Cubs fan for 20 years. So... looking forward to opening day here too. Sorry to hear about the shoulder surgery. Hope all goes smoothly.

Ugh, Ruth. Sorry to hear about the 50/50 chance you'll need another surgery.

Badger, that dr of yours sounds right on!

Ran two miles today. I'm aware that I am way way slow and out of shape. Ten pounds extra weight since the surgery in August. I know what you said, Lilac, cut back hard on calories. Trying to balance working, taking care of kids, and finding time to exercise on reduced calorie diet makes me tired!

Hydro running class yesterday and water fitness today. Such good workouts.

I cannot believe we are expecting snow on March 31st! Some stations say 3-5 inches while others predict less than an inch with some icing. Not sure which would be worse at this point. We are supposed to b going on a field trip tomorrow. I am so done with winter!

Ruth, sorrry to hear that you might be facing surgery.

Nats, wishing you a speedy and easy recovery. Have fun on opening day. I have a gf who is the ultimate Rockies fan! Me, I really do not follow sports

Spent 1/2 the day dealing with stuff for Mom. Met with the new wheelchair guy. Since yesterday he's checked Mom's for nsurance, has the doctor's noes and more. Today he and the OT met with Mom and me to write up everything to order the wheelchair. Getting a couple options that she doesn't need yet, but will down the road. I wish I knew about him months ago. Thankfully Mom's Medicare and secondary will cover the cost as this power wheelchair is about $20K. The NP from the pcp's office came for monthly visit. I feel like a load has been lifted of fire my shoulders. I told Mom that if her mobility scooter dies before the power chair arrives she will just have have to be pushed in a regular wheelchair. That will really impact her freedom, but not going to put any more money into it.

Teeth cleaning this morning. It felt like Chinese water torture!

Nice weather pastcouple days but rain turning to snow tomorrow and Saturday.

Tomorrow afternoon I have my 6 month oncology appointment that was rescheduled from 2 weeks ago. DH is in Atlanta so I'm by myself. DH has made almost all appointments over the years. I'm waiting to get moved to annual visits, but I don't think my oncologist is ready to cut me loose!

    Sweet dream

Nats bummer on the shoulder surgery, I know you are looking forward to opening day. Ruth sorry you may be facing surgery. Wonderland gosh no wonder you are sore, a massage would be in order after all that hard work. Glad you have things worked out for your Moms new wheelchair Karen and sending good wishes for tomorrow. Wow Ginger stay safe and warm. LB happy launch week, I hear there are two Vinyassas in this release - so hard for me getting up and down and up and down in one let alone two, all my instructor friends are posting pictures of their Combat/Pump release classes. I am going to San Diego tomorrow night for the new Jam release (speaking of Jam - Heidi where are you) then Saturday is Combat I already did Pump last week. Badger hope you can find a class close to your work.

Tonight did U Jam and half a Zumba class (new shoes equals sore feet)

Ruth. . .sorry to hear about your news although it sounds like you have time to choose if surgery is needed. I may be headed that way someday, but I faithfully take my Tamoxifen.

Tomorrow is planting day for dh. I get to sit out and supervise at least and will start walking with ds tomorrow. He's on spring break and has exercise hours to complete for his health class. We were all supposed to be leaving Sunday for a mission trip in Tenn.
