    Sore and sorry Susie checking in. OMG nothing could prepare you for this ride. Gravel surface all the way. Scary stuff. I must admit to not riding all the way. I did half the first day, second day and today. Am actually considering not riding at all tomorrow. Talk about bone shaking stuff. Steve actually apologised to me for making me do it.

    I am also disappointed in the Sth Island - very dry and desolate - although today had some nice scenery. Will post pics when we get home.

    Anyway I cannot beleive people actually pay to do this ride.

    HELP!!!!!!!

    This picture is on an ad that keeps showing up on my Facebook.  The caption is "53 year old woman looks 27".  Does this make you want to clicky and find out her 'secret'???

    My sympathies Susie.  You are a trooper to have done as much as you have!  I would find something else to do tomorrow (and yesterday, and the day before).  Hope the rest of the trip is more fun.

    Joe Walsh and his Tea Partiers are fond of such bumper stickers as "You breed them, you feed them".  Time to walk the talk dude.

    If you feel the need for a pukefest go find the story about Ted Nugent bragging about how he avoided the draft during the VietNam war.  It is absolutely gross.  Some of it he denies now.  So he's either a pig or a liar.  America's finest he is not.

    This must be photoshopped ... there is no way you could get that many cats to cooperate on anything!

    Obama talking again about voting and the long hours people waited in lines. (Ted Nugent hasn't yet shot him!Surprised) He is drowned by applause. He now speaks of the heroism of a police officer. Guns and voting are very much together in this speech...hand in hand. Obama's message seems to be, "the liberty to live to vote."

    I agree. Without the right to life, no other human right matters.

    Good speech by Obama.  I never watch the responses either....no matter which party is delivering it.  But I always watch the state of the union address.  Have ever since I first voted. 

    Poor John Boehner.  I don't think I've ever seen that man smile.  He looked so uncomfortable tonight.  Was wondering if he had indigestion or maybe he was just dying for a couple of martinis Wink

    You know, I have one thing to thank Sarah Palin for. Her adage of, "say it ain't so!" which ignoramouses like me didn't know was a common one in some parts of the country. I just went to the nytimes.com site to see the GOP response. Marco Rubio, is it - with curtains, tassles and columns in the background - fancying himself in the Oval Office.

    Well, seeing as it was Rubio....I watched.  Oh my gosh.....surely he won't get a nomination.  He wiped the side of his head twice ( must have been sweat -- not sure ) and all he could seem to do was bad-mouth the President.  His solutions did not even sound plausible to me.

    He said his folks were middle class....his Dad a bartender and his Mom a cashier.  I mean no disrespect but I have to say the bartenders and cashiers I know are not really middle class here......and his parents working life was some time ago.

    His speech was getting nearly distorted by apparently a dry mouth and he reaches way over and takes a huge swig of water from a bottle sitting out of sight and then continues on as though nothing had gone on in the middle of his sentence.

    Lastly....because this is probably quite boring.....is this ear splitting smile  which seemed so well "put on". 

    I think this man put on a truly bad performance.  I have never watched one of these things before and I think I shan't ever watch another. 

    On the other hand.....I thought the President gave a wonderful speech and I thought he challenged  at just the right times. 

    I don't know what will happen.....but he has left the door very wide open and put the ball in the right court.

    I watched Rubio also and think the late night shows will have a fun time with the water drinking scene!! His speech was all about trashing the POTUS while wearing a Hugh jass smile (stole that from Enjoyful).

    I went to bed early after a weird and stressful day, so I missed the whole political show.  Bummer.  

    Kudos, however, go out to Glenna for her use of the descriptive "Hugh jass."  Appropriately and hilariously applied, Glenna!

    I have a few complaints with Obama, drone usage being first and foremost, but I've never fully agreed with anyone in office.  (Maybe I should run myself?  Ha!)  Overall, I'm proud to have him as President and look forward to the rest of his term.  As for those who would trash him and call him Hitler, a despot, and anti-American, y'all can just suck it.

    E - I'm sort of with you, although instead of going to bed, I got caught up in Ovation's repetition of Pride of Prejudice.  A young Colin Firth as Darcy.  Be still my heart.

    Anyway, don't need to watch to know I support Obama generally.   I'm pleased to see him gearing up on climate change.  I'm proud that he's pushing reasonable gun laws.  I also am not a fan of the drone policy -needs some judicial oversight - but on the whole, he's doing good.

    Also, didn't need to see Rubio.  The recap here was sufficient and funny.  the thought of him needing to have a glass of water half-way through....  I'll catch snippets of it on the news today, but was he really going to say anything worthwhile?  Nope.

    E -- very big yuk-yuk here on your parting words about our President.  The obstructionists and nay-sayers and little government people ( who all really want government anyhow ) can do just as you say.  I'm with you there.

    Suzie -- you are extraordinary putting your best foot ( pedal digit ) forward and doing your level best.  Kudos and well wishes from me as well.  You are a great trooper, bar none.  I do hope there is and will be much more to enjoy on all the other parts of your trip.

    Just a few thoughts taken from the Balance Sheet/American Prospect re: minimum wage increase to $9.00

    This proposal would likely meet with stiff resistance but some perspective ----  If the minimum wage had kept pace with executive compensation since 1990, our most poorly paid would be earning well over $23.00 an hour today.

    Simply adjusting for inflation over the past 40 years would net a minimum wage earner $10.58 and looked at it that way, $9.00 looks like a good thing both ways.

    Suzie - congratulations on the ride - it sounds like a wicked hard one!!!

    We watched both the State of the Union and the rebuttal by Rubio - skipped the Tea Party rebuttal by Rand, as he makes me want to puke.  Rubio is clearly not yet ready for prime time.  His speech was OK, but his carriage was not.  The reach for water in the middle of the speech looked like something from SNL.

    Just WOW over the minimum wage vs. executive wage!!!

    It's looking more probable that the house sale will go through.  The last hurdle is the appraisal which will apparently not be back until Friday at the earliest.  In the meantime, hubby has told me to start packing, so guess what I'll be doing on this three day weekend.....  (and no - we haven't even looked for a place to live yet Laughing)
