I say yes, you say no, OR People are Strange

Sandy, you are from one of my all time fave cities. I spent the winter of 1982 in Montreal and had a wonderful time.
Rabbit, I do believe that in addition to being retired and being a tech, the nice man also had two trips to the bin.
-
For some reason that does not surprise me. I have reason to believe the nice man has been here before under a different name too. I've worked with lots of electronics techs ... nice people ... but I'm just waiting for him to suggest implanting a new circuit board
-
Does anyone here have any proof that the retired electronics technician who claims to have studied biochemistry and a lot more on his own is actually wrong with his theories? I ask that seriously, not with any sarcasm. I like to keep an open mind. I've searched on the internet for him and he doesn't seem to be a pest like some who've been on here. His idea is in line with new research into the possibility of starving cancer rather than poisoning it.
One of the brightest people I know personally is self taught after dropping out of school and working in menial jobs. His unique and groundbreaking idea only came about because he wasn't trained in the standard way of work that would have closed his mind to the idea. After decades of private study and work he got a government grant to start up a company and should be well known in his industry once his product gets distributed within the year. My eldest son worked with him informally before he got his grant and is now employed by him. I'm sure many of the early scientific discoveries were made by people who were self taught. Many of tham were mad too. Mad geniuses.
-
No, me neither. In fact, the writing style had clued me in before he supplied the info. Mind you, my dear brother and other people close to me have had some R&R in the bin at various times, so I am down with the idea. But my brother is not exactly coherent most of the time.
BTW, is that a VERY rude bunny in your avatar?
-
Whiterabbit, I hope your ears are safe. I found boxes of chocolate rabbit ears, no bunny body attached, at a local market!! I always worry about my rabbit friends this time of year.
Please guard your ears, and keep them out of the chocolate!
-
Joy, the problem is that if you analyze the writings, he is not actually saying very much, although he uses a lot of words to say it.
Yes, there is research beng done on metformin and other insulin/sugar connections in cancer. It is promising and interesting. However, our retired tech friend made a sweeping claim in one post that a whole host of diseases could be cured simply by cutting refined sugar out of your diet. That is not true. It really isn't.
Most poppycock starts from some grain of truth, but then goes on to twist it beyond all recognition.
I have great respect for the self-taught, and most bright people are self-taught to some extent. However, if you have NO training in how to evaluate information and weigh info, then it can be a tricky business.
-
Thanks Momine. I saw Elimar's post and realised I had skipped over the part about throwing out meds. I should have spotted that. Ouch. Eminently dangerous with diabetes. I was hoping someone knowledgeable would challenge him. His ketone idea could still have merit so I hope the criticism is about his ideas and not his sanity!
-
There is no real point in challenging him.
-
otter made a very good point earlier. It is so very much easier to come up with cures and solutions that sound perfectly logical if you are not constrained by any knowledge of facts ... in this case biology.
I'm quite sure that I also - with my own very limited knowledge of biology - could come up with a lot of stuff that makes sense to me. But really to 'think outside the box', you do need to know and understand what is 'in the box' first. I also see no point in bothering to challenge him.
ETA ... just checked ... ears intact. And my bunny is a happy bunny ... ummm ... hope you are not thinking what I think maybe you might be thinking upon looking at it closer
-
Yeah, that is exactly what I was thinking
I am extremely juvenile, if you hadn't already guessed as much. -
Bren & HL - still laughing at your posts of a few pages ago - Reason? Auugghhhhh.
Meanwhile, I WANNA HAVE DINNER AT MOMINE's house...how do we get there...it all sounds so yummy. I promise to wash & dry
And, Momine, you are SO new to this @$^#@#$@ disease, good to see you are in such good condition. One of the best things I learned on the Complimentary Thread, was about the book Anti Cancer, by David Serevan Schreiber ( sp) - that was so helpful for me.
As for Maple Syrup - you mean there's another purpose other than drizzling it over ice cream? So good to learn all this stuff from you wonderful women...
I remember Ketones from the firsst days of Atkins Diet - oooohhh, that dates me.
Joy - I read that stuff the "scientist" posted, and as Momine qisely noted, more words than information. Kinda like watching some of the TV programs where a politician is asked a question and H/She responds without answering. Quite an art form.

Hi Everybody! Welcome to all the new gals!
I just got back from a fun trip to Sam's Club with my sis. It's raining like crazy in Roanoke today. What a big change from yesterday's 81 degrees. I think it's only in the very low 50's today. I am so ready for it to warm up.
I'm so excited .. my sis is taking me to the beach with her in a couple of weeks. We're going to the North Carolina coast and staying at a place called the Atlantis. I haven't been to the beach since I left San Diego a few years ago!
Sunflowers ... I cracked myself up! I should have said "common sense," but obviously lost my mind.
Momine .. Can I come over for dinner too?
Hope everyone is enjoying their day,
hugs,
Bren

Good morning!
hi newbies! Hi blue! Hi sunshine out my window!
I saw the problem post and all my bells and whistles went off. The website was registered through a proxy organization--most leg entities don't do that. If youi google the name, nothing comes up except that entity--one would expect more hits if someone had really started a charity for that purpose--after all its a local news tear jerker.
But I choose to say nothing. first because of the board where its at (didn't feel comfortable posting) and second because well, I didn't want to deal with the potential cranky people. Heck I appear to have been deleted from the brocelli cure thread and all I recall saying was that I'd been eatting lots of those veggies for years and yet, here I am.
Whatever.
If anyone does have a desire to donate to something like the American Cancer Society my crazy DH--the one who helped his friend out 2 years running by flying to Europe for chemo support and the one who has been dealing with my mother and her treatment -- has signed up to raise money by participating in a half marathon in June.
Did I mention he will be running barefoot?

all 13.5 miles.

Any donations in any amount would be welcome. He has a webpage on the DetermiNation Seattle website--PM if you'd like some identifier to locate his page.
Feel free to share the info with anyone who might be willing to send their formerly Komen dollars to the American Cancer Society.

Sunflower, I am in Athens, Greece, not Georgia. I just finished active treatment, so thanks!
-
Hi to all the newbie's. So glad the week is over for me. I think my school district must be one of the last to still give Good Friday off, but I will enjoy.
Maple syrup oh how I love that stuff on pancakes. I can't even imagine using it for any other purpose.
Joy so good to see you here. I love reading your posts. So much thought and research always goes into your posts.
Has anyone heard from Barbara recently? I hope all is well with her!
-
Momine
Athens Greece! How lucky! I was there about a zillion years ago. Still remember the very very yummy food and taking a public bus out to Sounion to see the temple.
-
Athens! I love Athens! I haven't been there since 1986, but I spent quite a bit of time there in the mid-80s when my first husband and I lived in South Asia. I still have some very nice jewelry that I got in the Plaka. We had friends who lived near Kolonaki (sp?). I have very fond memories of Greece! Momine, I hope that you are somewhat insulated from the austerity measures.... How difficult it must be to endure treatment and the economic insecurity!
Maple syrup. Ummmm hmmmmm. That's all I have to say. Love the comment about tentacles, though.
Anne, I saw a funny cartoon on FB. Not sure where, so I can't copy it here but your comment about bunny ears reninded me: Two chocolate bunnies are talking. One has a bite out of his hindquarters. He says, "My butt hurts." The other one has his ears missing and he says, "What?" I am juvenile, too, Momine -- I laughed for a long time. I am snickering now.
3M, your husband is amazing!
Hi to all ... I seem to be chattier than usual here these days!
L -
Happy Libby, you say amazing I say crazy.
tomato, tomato, right?

no I'm teasing. I really am proud of him. Now on the matter of maple syrup
what happens if I add the maple syrup to the brocelli?
-
Got up early and cooked Steve some eggs and tomato - we're not religious but he insists on meat free Good Fridays. Then I went and found my man with the truck - he actually had 2 trucks there today - lots of pre orders. Got some great fish and came home and decided to wash my car. Now it's time for rest but I did start the washing. Steve watching the Masters on TV and seems to have fallen asleep.
Momine - I would love to come to Greece. I did get to come to Paris last year but that's all we managed as our trip was primarily in the UK. Next trip over there I want to see everything.
Happy Easter girls!!
-
About maple syrup -- Another wonderful way to use it is on pumpkin pie, absolutely divine!
-
Yum!
Chickadee - lol!
Happy Easter everyone - I miss childhood Easter egg hunts.
-
I would love to go to Greece! Are you near a beach? Two of my best friends are Greek, and one is lucky enough to have family there and often goes in the summers.
Happy Easter/Passover everyone.
-
Ok, I know it's a holiday today BUT I couldn't resist and vacuumed my car and cleaned the windows - now I'm absolutely done after I hang out the last load of washing. For some reason, I seem to have lots of energy today. I can predict a nap in the afternoon.
-
When I first got diagnosed and didn't know I was stage IV I had my hair cut shorter than short in anticipation of going bald. Then I was put on hormonals and now my hair is down my back, I have never really liked the hair salon thing and have avoided going.
So today in the mail comes notice that it's time for the 6 year replacement in my drivers license and a new picture! YIKES!!! I look like crap and I don't want a 6 year picture looking like crap. So I'm venturing into the hair salon search and praying someone will take pity on me and make me beautiful for one more drivers license. -
Chickadee - you'll enjoy having your hair done and I'm sure you'll come out looking beautiful. Just relax and enjoy.
It is the MOST incredible day here in Oz - it's warm but not hot - absolutely perfect.
-
Chickadee - reminds me of the workout regimen I put myself through just to look half decent on my passport - oh the vanities!
-
Finally a big Thank You to one BCO poster - Charles Palkey - for his superb "Latin-ism": taurus excrementus. Brilliant description of goings on in some of the alt. threads.
Off to beg the Gods and Big Pharma for a good night's sleep! -
Sigh. I was doing laundry today and noticed there was a wet spot on my carpet in my ground level family room. The washer and dryer are on that level as well. I pulled up part of the carpet to see what was going on, and there is what appears to be a small sink hole in the cement floor where the sewer line runs. Water bubbling up through it. Sigh.
I've called my insurance company and they're sending a claims adjuster tomorrow, but I have this nagging feeling that this will be one of those things that's not covered. Can't hurt to try, though, and if they don't, maybe they can suggest someone reliable I can call to fix it.
I hate stuff like this.
Mary
-
Athena -- I like Charles', but how about equus excrementus?

Mary -- Keeping fingers crossed that insurance covers the cost of repair. It certainly should!
-
My passport photo was taken just as my hair had grown back about an inch long. It's sure not too flattering a photo and made me look like, well, someone who had cancer. Nevertheless, it has worked just fine for several trips since then. The customs agents really didn't seem to care as long as the photo is still you.
