Single Pink Rose for AlaskaDeb

I just talked to Mona at the shop, the phone is still ringing off the hook; I could hear someone else taking an order in the background. She had just gotten there so didn't have a current order total but when she left yesterday 55 roses had already been ordered. I'm a transplanted northern 'girl' myself, and although I mostly lurk, I will truly miss Deb. I could always count on her to take away my longing for the north country. Fishes & Bugs Deb, you won't be forgotten.

Hi... Well, I just called and added another rose to Alaska Deb's arrangement. Ever since, I can't seem to stop crying, thinking about her.
JulieC, it was ALSO my FIRST call to Alaska! but, first I called my phone carrier to make sure that it was in my plan, as I have unlimited local and long distance in the U.S. I wondered if Alaska and Hawaii counted, and they do, at least, for MY plan.
When I was first dx'd with bc, I called Canada, also a first for me!! That call cost me 25 cents, because I just left a message, and they called me back. My dh emailed a woman who has a website about her bc experience. He told her that I was freaking out and he didn't know what to do, so could she please call me? She did call me but I was not home. So when I got her message, I called and left her a message, and she called me back. We talked for over an hour! She was so very nice!! Anyway, as part of me paying it forward, I am also trying to help others who are newly diagnosed. Sorry for rambling, but when I think about Deb, it makes me think of everyone who has been here for me during my difficult time.
Thinking of you Deb and sending you bugs and fishes!

Wow, I can't even imagine what that many roses will look like. I hope they're able to get some pictures. What a wonderful tribute...
There were a lot of flowers at my mom's funeral. The funeral guy took apart a bunch of the bouquets and took the individual flowers to the cemetary. He had 2 huge baskets of them for people to take one and place on her casket at the end of the graveside service. It was really nice.
I'm sure they'll think of something special to do with them after the ceremony...

Just finished ordering two flowers: one from me and one in mom's honor. Deb and her family were very supportive and loving when mom (Mami) passed away. Ordering two roses is the least I can do. Yes, I agree, Deb is probably dancing up in heaven!
-
Add one more. She put a smile on my face when I needed it most and I won't forget that. What a wonderful idea.
Didn't know what to put for name so I just put my screen name.

Add another one........it was hard ordering thru the tears but Mona understood.
Thanks to Donna and Traci for putting this together so that we could all participate.

Just hung up the phone talking to Mona, got a little misty eyed but was able to add another pink rose.
-
I talked to Mona just a few minutes ago myself. What a wonderful tribute.

Alright ladies, You now have me crying again....Except this time its a good cry...This is so very touching...Deb certainly deserves over a 100 roses, but who'd have thought it could happen so fast. You ladies are incredible. Very beautiful--- on what is kind of an ugly day here today(icy, dark, foggy, wet, slushy, going to freeze). Love to all of you..KLynn

Add another to the count, just spoke with Mona, she says there are over 100 single pink roses and several other larger arrangements........
And check out the forum "Commemorating Loved Ones" for another tribute we're doing for Deb and others we have lost on Valentines Day.......
Luv and hugs

I just got off the phone with Mona also.......she said we were well over 100.
When Deb came to visit the girls in Michigan I did not get the chance to meet with them that day. ......so bummed. I do know the Michigan girls thought very highly of her. In fact during the summer we gathered at a picnic and Neesie had made a small pink quilt that she had us all sign to send to Deb. I was honored to have signed the quilt. You could not help but to be drawn to Deb's avatar and once you did you were hooked. I for one was blown away by her spirit.
Once again I am honored to be a part of something pink and I stand proud for THE POWER OF PINK.

I just got off the phone with Tammy, adding my pink rose in honor of our beloved Deb. Dang I'm not much of a crier but could hardly get my cc number out!
Thanks Donna for starting this and Tracy for figuring out a way more of us could be included.

2 more pink roses ordered...one for Deb, and one for all of us.

OK, I'm sitting here smiling just a bit, thinking that on some level poor Tammy et al must be wondering just how supportive we're actually able to be considering we're all blubbering messes! And I guess just feeling like Deb would see the humor in that. I hope that doesn't come across the wrong way, please forgive me if it does, I might just be getting a little punchy.
I happened to speak to Tammy, who was lovely. As I said, I held it together until the very end, when she was done with the business end of the transaction, she simply said, "I went to school with her." You could hear the emotion in her words you know? She gets it, she gets how it's possible that hundreds of women from all over the country and world are calling Alaska to order a rose for someone that most of them have only "met" via words on a page.
Again, many thanks to Donna and Tracy for pulling this together, it's another example of the very special bond we have here, one I am thankful for.

cmb........cute comment about us being supportive, made me chuckle too. Even my dh is now reading these posts.
This must be very emotional for Tammy too. Hard to imagine really.
-
I just ordered. What a wonderful tradition. Thank you for making it so easy for us. The lady at the florist said there had been over 125 roses ordered.
-
Mine has been added. What an amazing group of women we have here.
-
Wow.....(((((((Donna)))))))

I just ordered a rose for Deb. Gosh, I hope someone takes a picture and posts it. It's going to be such a beautiful tribute! I'm so proud to be part of such a wonderful group of women.

I just called and so far there are about 125 roses ordered..isn't that amazing!
-
going to call for my rose for deb. are we using our real names on the card or our bc.org names?
-
jerseymaria ~
I think most of us have used our real names and city where we live.
This is such a special tribute to Deb and I'm proud to be a part of it.
