As far as DT goes, there is one thing that would make me happier than him landing up in prison. Due to Karma, I won't say what that is.

Integrity is not a conditional word. It doesn't blow in the wind or change with the weather. It is your inner image of yourself, and if you look in there and see a person who won't cheat, then you know you never will. -John MacDonald

I was sad as well to hear that we lost Gen. Powell. Even more so from covid complications. I have admired him always and we have lost a little of our national sanity with his passing. A trusted voice. RIP.

In the meantime, the memes are great Ruth. We really put them here because it seems the funniest are also the truest on the subject at hand. Helping to lighten us up a bit in a topsy-turvy world that often twists your emotions to pieces.

Saying that, I've heard on the news this a.m. ( before the sad Powell news ) and read a bit before that there is indeed something of a pulling away from the Loon. He remains mainly concerned about vengeance and is living and breathing the 2020 election which is not going to help those who are trying to get into place for '22 and '24. He is father gone than so many will recognize in telling people to not even vote. I can't imagine what he is thinking. Of course, I guess the whole idea is that it is not a fair election but as fraudulent as he makes out the 2020 so they shouldn't contribute. Well, what is he going to do -- cry foul because no Reps. voted !!! Good luck with that one. He also seems to think someone will just magically re-install him as president and he will return to the WH.

According to the book ( Peril ) that I just finished, it seems there have been many times when his pal Lindsey has tried to tell Loon the truth and he has ignored what is otherwise realistic and sound advice. Left field Lindsey is often off the rails as he tries to rah-rah Loon and others, but he does seem to haver quietly tried to steer Loon in better directions. It hasn't worked at all. Loon thinks his followers ( he is right in large part ) like his combativeness and hitting back and vengeance measures while they don't notice that he does nothing much for them. They don't listen to the news we hear or read about how disdainful he ( Loon ) is of these followers. So we march on.

I'm disappointed at the moment in how some things are going with Biden, but I'm hoping that it becomes an interlude that will fade and that we will get back to the care and needs that at this point are a little wanting. I do believe that we really are way slow on doing something about the vote. If that means finding a way to dump the filibuster it sure as heck needs to get done..

I am saddened by General Colin Powell's death. He was a trailblazer and a true gentleman. His political stance was not representative of mine but his principles prevented him from having other than a true direction when it came to protecting and professing democracy. May he rest in peace and never have to share his resting place with anyone who disparaged him for being principled.

I sent my adult son the meme comparing Jim Jones and Donald Trump. This was his reply " and he probably would have a watered down cyanide that wouldn't work right, then blame you for not dying". I love my son!

I do, too. His humor is spot on. Wonder how much he would have charged you for the privilege of drinking it as well?

Edited for faulty spelling and hasty typos.

em, your son is way too funny and I think he should be doing memes maybe. As to the watered down cyanide -- the Loon would complain because he would not partake himself. He would likely just be enjoying being an onlooker to the faithful, and that would be when he wasn't complaining.

I don't think I've ever known anyone ( Loon ) who make so many others carry the blame. Of course even knowing he's soooo mental, one would think you take a little something to avoid seeming as though your perfection personified. Not the Loon. For most of us being perfect while not attainable anyway ( not in this life anyway ) would be far too difficult a job and I do think it would be the world's worst job. I've always labored under the thought that our mistakes induce a better growth pattern usually and while you wish you didn't have to make them often, as I've often say -- if everything was perfect how would you learn and grow.

Yes the lies about Gen. Powell having been vaccinated have already started circulating.

He had Multiple Myeloma and was treating for it. He is one of those older individuals who had a very compromised system and was high risk.

I didn't watch much for news through the day yesterday. Had a number of things going on yesterday and knowing so much of the day would be spend on Gen. Powell which would continue to inspire sadness in me.

Later on ( after 9 p.m. ) we caught up with the news a bit more. In the bag for Bannon to get the criminal referral to DOJ. Would be great if it gets addressed quickly. I also noted the Loon at last minute is suing to stop the sharing of info from the Archives with 1/6 committee. It is strange that someone with his type of ( mentally damaged ) ego keeps drawing attention to the fact of how often he loses. My view is that it will be a loss but used to slow down the process. The bottom like is you still lose and give more ammunition to those who already think ill of you. It continues to should like he has upset many of the Reps. from his ( cough-cough ) White House years who seem damage and danger from him as he trashes the party and them for the edification of his own ego.

All I'm left with is that anyone who LOVES to lose that much certainly should. Give him what he is working toward and asking for and if the Reps. party goes down with his ship all I can say is Oh my.

So as usual -- it is not about Powell, it is all about Trump.

(CNN) Roughly 24 hours after the death of Colin Powell, Donald Trump proved, again, that he is utterly incapable of empathy, grace or even common decency.

"Wonderful to see Colin Powell, who made big mistakes on Iraq and famously, so-called weapons of mass destruction, be treated in death so beautifully by the Fake News Media," Trump said in a statement released Tuesday morning. "Hope that happens to me someday. He was a classic RINO, if even that, always being the first to attack other Republicans. He made plenty of mistakes, but anyway, may he rest in peace!"

"But anyway, may he rest in peace!" Yes, Trump really said that.

The gulf between Trump's statement and that of other former presidents on Powell's passing is simply massive.

"Laura and I are deeply saddened by the death of Colin Powell," said George W. Bush. "He was a great public servant, starting with his time as a soldier during Vietnam."

"General Powell was an exemplary soldier and an exemplary patriot," said Barack Obama. "He was at the center of some of the most consequential events of our lifetimes."

"He lived the promise of America, and spent a lifetime working to help our country, especially our young people, live up to its own ideals and noblest aspirations at home and around the world," said Bill Clinton.

What Trump's statement should remind us is that this is a man uniquely self-obsessed -- and without any ability to see beyond himself.

Powell was openly critical of Trump -- he voted for Hillary Clinton in 2016 and Joe Biden in 2020 -- and of the dark direction the billionaire businessman was leading the country. And so, Trump saw Powell's death as an opportunity to get back at him -- and took it.

This is, in a word, classless. In two words: Utterly classless.

It also puts to lie Trump's regularly repeated assertion that he loves the military more than any other president has ever loved the military.

Powell was an highly decorated soldier and served as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff during the first Gulf War. While there's no question that his argument that Iraq possessed weapons of mass destruction as a way to justify the second war in Iraq was a stain on his legacy, it's just as clear that this is a man who gave the vast majority of his adult life to service to the country.

No one should be surprised by this latest degradation of what it means to be a president by Trump. He spent four years in office defining the job downward. That some people will applaud Trump's trolling of a dead man is, perhaps, his most toxic legacy.

Did the same thing to John McCain and John Lewis so he has no respect for men who are regarded as influential and respected no matter their politics. He's an asshole and proves it every time he opens his mouth to change feet.

I would say that he is a piece of shit, but it would be an insult to manure; which (as fertilizer) actually serves a worthwhile purpose.
