corky, my 2nd cat was a shelter kitty that only lived to be 5. She kept developing kidney stones. She made it through one surgery but still kept developing them. At least $5,000 vet bill by the time she passed. She would walk by and my husband would say "there goes my used car" lol she was such a sweetie and so tiny. Although her life was short it was good for the most part. We gave her a good life. I dont think I would ever be happy without a cat in our home either. Most of us probably arent suprised about that cat alerting her owner to her breast cancer.

here's a pic of shelly. Still miss her

Darn it Wren! I spent my dreams last night tracking down those kittens! I found the mom but someone had let the kittens out! ( I volunteered at a shelter for 5 or 6 Years, swear I have ptsd! ) It has been probably 5 years and I frequently have dreams of fostering still. Or looking for lost cats. I guess I kinda miss it.
-
All my kitties were shelter cats. Charcoal lived to be only 7.
We had a bit of a breakthrough with Princess and Grace this morning. They were chasing each other and very little growling or hissing from Princess. Tried to get both of them playing together with a little yarn yesterday.

I found Beau, or should I say Beau found me at the humane society. I was volunteering there at the time. I had just lost my 22 yr old cat Sammy. I remember the day Beau arrived. Someone found him on the street under a car meowing. He was very young. When he was placed into the cage at the shelter, climbed up the cage and looked straight at me and yelled as if to say "Get me out of here!" He was tiny but had a big mouth! When I would take the kittens out to play with each other, Beau decided he preferred to follow me around and "help" me clean the cages. I wasn't able to take him home right away, but as soon as he was ready, he came home with me. Beau will be nine years old this month.

Beau having a tumble with his fishing pole.

He's beautiful!

My, we've all had or have wonderful cats!
I just saw a documentary on Scottish wildcats. They look incredibly like the household tabby. There is no way to know how many are left, but they are thinking that it is less than 100.
-
So this was the cat that started it all for us. He was blind in one eye and couldn't see out the other! He was a skinny little shelter cat when we got him, but grew to be about 18 lbs. He was more like a dog than a cat, and I was heartbroken when he passed. But the kids and I ended up volunteering at that shelter for quite a few years, and fostering, and adopting two more.

ktab96 your Beau sure is handsome! Love the mustache!
-
Some wrestling at the house today. That is Lester trying to get Charlie to participate. He is also known as "Chuck". or Upchuck depending on the day
-
Came home after my women’s club meeting to a pleasant surprise tonight. Princess and Grace were playing and there was not one growl or hiss from Princess.
-
That's great!
-
Yes it is. I think Princess is come to understand that neither one of them are going anywhere.
-
Sometimes that's all it takes. So glad it is working out.
-
Me too.

Wow Wren fantastic results!
Corky you are so right how good they are at hiding pain. Lost Willow in Feb 2004 to a tooth infection that went into bone in gum. Vet removed a piece of jaw bone but Willow would not eat, even cat soup, made in his own special blender. Best wishes with getting the meds into them, keep up the good work! XXX

I finally found a good photo of my heart kitty, Mocca. We developed cancer at the same time. Hers was not treatable. Broke my heart she wasn't there during my recovery. Still miss her. Yes, she had tortitude.
-
Absolutely beautiful.
-
Wren44 she is a beauty. I also lost my Lucy to cancer about three weeks after my BMx. Miss her still. She was my heart as well.
-
So thrilled, Grace and Princess are getting along. Went to give Princess a couple bites of chicken and after Grace had finished hers, she stole one of the pieces I had saved for Princess.

RIP sweet Mocca. That was, extra hard that you had to lose your dear friend and companion during your treatment. I hope she is catching butterflies in heaven.
-
Good news about Princess and Grace.
-
Timely Reminder (just received in email from Cat's Aid, (the cat rescue organisation Elliott came from)
-
Wrenn - Mocca sure was a beauty and I know you miss her. It's so awfully hard to let them go.
-
Feeling Feline - I love that thought, catching butterflies in heaven. Anyone else have Tamoxifen dreams of their heart cat? My Lucy visited me last night.
