I am back to square one.  I don't know what change was made in the last 48 hours but I have two problems now.

    1.  If I use (Control - ) so that I have the left hand gray column then the font is about a size 8.

    2.  If I increase (Control +) then the threads are of normal size font (10-12) more like 12 but it takes up the entire screen and I lose my left hand column.

This problem was evident when the change over occured but then it was fixed.  Now back to the same problem.

Still have the glaring white background when I read responses in the threads.  The opening post looks great against a light blue background but all of the responses are in a white background.

Please don't ask me to screen shot - still can't get that one figured out.

    Windows 7 - Internet Explorer 9

jancie, we're not aware of further changes made since Friday, but more refinements are being planned for Monday. Have you had a chance to look at the proposed color changes? They're posted in the Moderator Announcements... forum. Here's the link that will take you right there:

We need your opinion! Color changes for your review!

sam52, we did see it, thank you! We haven't been replying to every post, but we see 'em all, and compile all the comments for the team working on making the site a friendly and readable spot for every configuration possible.

Ok, so I am looking at a thread that DM responded to but the avatar is of Facecrafter.  The avatars are not lining up with the people that have responded. This is new as of late (Friday?)

The avatars line up with the person responding if I hit Control + and then have the text the entire width of my screen - no left hand margin at all.

Soooo.... are the tech folks up to figuring out how to fix the active topics page yet so we don't need to keep scrolling so much?

jancie, the out-of-alignment problem you reported was fixed this morning, thank!

camillegal, there seem to be strong opinions for and against having something like a Like button, so we're keeping an eye on opinion for now.

voraciousreader, for now it's still the various Up/Down techniques that have been described, but techs and Mods have fingers too, and we'd like to make it simpler for everyone. Personally, I find the two-finger gesture thing on the trackpad (not nearly as rude as it sounds), dashes through Active Topics in one swipe.

But your eyes also have to do more heavy scanning from all the scrolling and there's no escaping that with the present method. Gotta have plenty of rewetting drops handy!

I haven't chimed in on this discussion in a while, so I'm going to offer some opinions here.  I have been here and posted on an iPad, an Android phone, a netbook and a full-size laptop, so that covers most of the bases.

I vote for that table format for Active Topics.  I agree with everyone who says that it's difficult to scan all the topics and would be so much easier with the table format.  If you think you scroll a lot on a desktop or PC, you should try it on a phone screen...lol!   But I truly don't expect things to work as well on a mini-screen as I do on a full sized laptop.

I think the color schemes are much improved.

I would very much appreciate a "Like" button, too.  Could one be added to the Emoticons?

I wish that there were text formatting options for posting from the iPad. Is that a weakness in the Safari browser?  I can't post pictures when using the iPad, either.  I have been considering switching to the iPad completely, but the shortcomings when posting leave me thinking I'll be frustrated.

And really, something needs to be done about the signature with everyone's treatments.  I have more I could add to mine but it's already ridiculously long.  This just adds to the scrolling problem, too, within discussions.

LuvRVing pretty much said everything I was going to say.  I am going to repeat the points that are most important to me.

I use an iPad and a desktop.  The scrolling drives me nuts on both and I have decided that is responsible for the eye issues I have here.  So, please, please reconsider going back to a table format for Active Topics and do something about the long treatment list in signatures issue.  I would also like to see some of the extra spacing tightened up, also to reduce scrolling.

Posting from the iPad is very limited.

I do find the color scheme to be an improvement but am still getting severe eye fatigue after being here only a short while.  Which leads to my theory that it is the intense scrolling and refocusing that is causing this issue for me.

Totally weird - I get the contrasting colours on my home pc but not on my work pc which is Win 7 and IE 8 - home is XP and IE8. Still way too much space between lines - any way to condense it more?

Looks like when you go into someone's profile and click on their last post.. it actually goes to the specific post.. and not just to the thread. Laughing

In my opinion, this afternoon's update was a tremendous step backwards to 1992. Within a thread we now have far too many different colors and fonts. There are multiple rules with a multitude of different weights.

The active posts is just horrible. Step back and squint your eyes. The line spacing is a mish-mosh and the fonts are both ugly and bizarrely sized. To be honest, I can't decide if the active posts looks more like a ransom note or old-fashioned newspaper classified ads.

I understand that there has been a very vocal group clammering for these changes, but the end result is like any design product created by committee; without a core. If an actual designer has not been part of this process yet, now is the time. There are actual rules for screen interface design, and this site is now breaking far too many of them.

The new redesign was fresh and modern. It needed a few tweaks, but overall the look/feel was good.

I am not going to stomp my feet and threaten to leave. I am Stage IV. I need this place, but if there is a project manager [a real one] with a designer, I hope that they can review where this has ended up and try to limit the shear number of element attributes to a reasonable number.

p.s. AND please no LIKE, dancing gifs, etc. This isn't AOL.

I'd like to vote against the animated emoticons, too, or whatever they're called.  One smiley face is enough, and I seldom use that. :)

OTOH, I am really liking the newest changes in color and contrast. The darker lines, more prominent headings, and the new background colors, make it much easier to see where I am.  Thanks!
