I do understand that the mods have almost no control over this mess. But it’s their job to be the go-between. I doubt they’ll put me in touch with the tech project manager.
I took issue with the excuses they were passing along from their tech team. I thought BCO was getting fleeced.
What happens if the new platform is implemented and this forum is down again for days or weeks because we didn’t demand that the tech team be more careful this time. I want BCO to demand more from their tech team. Because ***all this*** is not normal.
-
moth - That’s not a glitch. It worked that way before. It’s just more noticeable now because they reduced the rows per page from 30 to 10. It would be easier to change the rows per page than alter where you land on the page depending on how you got there. The latter is a feature request requiring much more work and testing.
-
What is different is if you’re reading a post and want to log in to reply. Once logged in you used to stay at that post. After the redesign you were redirected to the Announcements page. After I asked a few times to stop getting redirected to the Announcements page, they changed it so that you get to the top of the page. Not perfect, but I accepted it.
-
Hearing all of this, and agree that it could be easier if the link would lead us to arrive just below the OPs post, to the post pages and the 1st response on that page. Duly noted. Indeed, was so before, but do agree it could be easier to follow the conversation if it would be as you describe.

re the avatar - what size do those images have to be to display properly??
weirdly when I go to edit my profile, my avatar right at the top of the page, to the left of the donate button, displays fully. But when I go to the community pages, it's cut off on the sides & a bit warped, just as in the posts in threads. So I guess I need to get a smaller version...would like to know the size required pls
-
The shape may be more important. My image is square (211KB). It then gets cropped to a circle with a little warp. Peace sign works well. How about a shield?
-
This is rich. Another undated Message From Above, ignoring that they were notified several times by the security site over the course of FIVE MONTHS.
-
Also, “misconfigured" is not what happened. It was found to be completely unsecured because no one went through the steps to configure security.
It didn't take much for the data security team to count the user avatars and member images. They were able to confirm for themselves that images sent by PM between members (that they created) were stored in that unsecured bucket.
That announcement is weaselly.

Mods - yes PLEASE to Serenity's comment about increasing the rows per page. It means less time waiting for a new page to load. But even more, it means we could then go back & read what someone said last week or last month without much trouble. Now it's a nightmare. That was especially great when looking to re-read recipes on the dinner thread or look back at recommended reading on the book thread. Please don't tell me how to search. I used to do that some but really I preferred just hitting back pages to re-read things that mattered. (REALLY mattered)
And if the "powers that be" are more interested only in medical things - it was also great to be able to go back on Trickling's tape allergy thread, and Whippetmom's size of implant thread and several of Binny's lymphadema threads - not to mention tips for chemo & tips for surgery. Or Beesies excellent posts? Or even to revisit long departed members - like Apple playing the piano or Michelle in her bunny suit. So PLEASE, can we fix this one thing?I'm sure each of us has something that is most important to us. Yes, I HATE the print which is very hard to read, and I HATE that there is not an obvious log in or sign out button, and I miss seeing where people are from, but could y'all not do one little things like the page length to show us that the officers & tech team really care? (I was going to say "give an R'sA$$) but I'm trying to be sort of professional.)
Serenity - I agree that our only option is to hold the MODS accountable for what does or does not happen since no one ever really canvassed the members to see what they might want or find valuable. And no, it's unlikely any of us could "speak" to the tech team or the officers, or the board, or whoever is leading BCO. Sigh!!!
(sorry I am guilty of yelling with the BOLD CAPS - but hope the MODS will still listen)

Hi All, The reason for the posts-per-page getting limited to 10 was to improve site speed, which was successful. We have discussed the possibility of increasing this number, and will re-discuss it this week. We do not want to do anything to disrupt any other functionality before we move to a new platform with updated coding in the near future. We'll let you know what is decided in the next few days.
-
It’s curious that 30 rows per page loaded well before the redesign.
Why did it require a reduction to 10 rows per page to load in a similar time after the redesign?
What scripting was added to cause the slowdown? Maybe make the scripting more efficient? I recall a “longer page” was mentioned in your redesign article as a way to make the page more legible. You gave us a shorter page.
-
The location has been a problem since the redesign. My location shows Montreal once, but it did display twice when I had my location set.
Why is my location still showing when I cleared it in my profile and set it to Private?
If your tech team was able to correct that, they would have removed an unnecessary call to the data source saving time.
-
Mods - thanks for responding, however the speed is definitely NOT improved by making the pages shorter. It take longer to load a thread and longer to go from page to page within a thread. Please add this to the discussion.
-
Mods- You said in your above post "we do not want to do anything to disrupt any other functionality before we move to a new platform with updated coding in the near future". So what is the timeline for a "new platform"??? I think if you can give us some sort of a timeline for a BCO site that will work as it should and be much better, it would help the grumblings. Tell us what BCO is planning and when. 1 month, 6 months, a year. When??!!
-
Hi All, We'll add this to the discussion!
Candy, in the next months is the goal!
-
2 or 12?
It is like pulling teeth
-
It wasn’t already in the discussion???
-
The lack of specifics and the lack of planning before implementing is what is so unbelievable about BCO. Obviously, BCO is making even more changes without involving us but won't/can't give us specifics. BCO, this is what got you in this mess in the first place. We learn after something doesn't work or after you've ignored a security breach for 5 months. You finally told us this relaunch fiasco was in planning for over 4 years with no BCO member involvement or testing. You finally tell us about a "bucket" problem five months after you ignored the warning about the security breach and never have admitted to the breach. You tell us you're going to "replatform" after things went off the rails here March 1, and that you're now months away from another relaunch for the discussion threads? How do you ever expect us to trust you with any of the statements you make?
BE RESPONSIBILE, BE ACCOUNTABLE. Tell us honestly in a timely fashion (before), involve us, and see what we can work together to do here. We want to be here to greet and help new members, and continue to build the relationships. It just seems BCO works in the opposite direction.
-
"You finally told us this relaunch fiasco was in planning for over 4 years with no BCO member involvement or testing."
Ceanna, they've told us nothing of the sort.
I found out (and posted here) that this has been in planning for 4 years by reading the website of one of BCO's development partners - I think it was Shift Labs - who touted that they'd been working with BCO on this redesign/relaunch for almost 4 years. To my recollection, BCO have told us nothing about that.
And BCO have in fact claimed that they did involve some people from the community... although to be fair I can't recall exactly how they worded their claim. Just speculating here, but what's likely is that either BCO or one of their development partners did some research and/or concept testing with breast cancer patients - but not necessarily anyone who uses this site. Doing research with "non-users" is common practice, especially if a company/organization is trying to increase usage. But that research should never be done in isolation, without also doing the same research on current users. Gaining a few new users while alienating a large number of your existing customer/client base is never a good idea.
Looking at BCO's financial statements, over the years 2018 - 2021 BCO spent $4.125 million on "Program Consultants". Now what do we think those program consultants were consulting on? Hmmm.....
Of course, if BCO and their development partners have put that much time and money into this horrible redesign, it's probably a safe bet that they won't be back-tracking or even ever admitting that they made a mistake. I think this is why we don't hear from anyone from their executive offices. There is nothing they can tell us that will make us feel better about what's happened to the site or what they will be doing to the site moving forward.
-
I hadn't signed in for a few days. How nice to find out that my "inability to log out" issue remains.
And yes, Mods, I know the steps to take to log out. Those steps aren't working.... yet again!
-
Many have complained about not being able to log out. I don't stay logged in. When I leave the site on either my Android phone or computer I'm logged out. Have to login each time
-
I don't know how to delete my profile and just start over. The questions don't seem to make sense. I wanted to show stage 1 in 2008 and those treatments. Then MBC in 2019 and the succession the treatments to follow. It was all correct before the change
-
In spite of all that's gone on, Charity Navigator still has a very glowing rating for BCO.
-
I really think the exact date of treatment is unimportant &takes up unnecessary space. Month & year would be totally adequate. Especially for those of us MBC who keep adding treatments over and over.
-
Why do some treatments have the generic name and others don't?
-
Sorry, Beesie, I was in a hurry earlier today and didn't double check the sequence of events before posting. Yes, you were the one to note that and not BCO. They've certainly not been forthcoming with information!
-
Would they have admitted the security problem if I didn’t find the article on the data breach? 🤔
-
I would have to go back a bit, and I could be mistaken, but Iremember the mods saying this was tested by actual bco members. I’ve questioned the veracity of this more than once but have yet to get a response from the mods.
Thanks to all of you who have been so diligent in trying to work with this situation. I simply can’t muster the energy but do appreciate everyone’s efforts. -
Unfortunately, Serenity, they probably wouldn't have. They have not admitted for the previous 5 months they had been warned, nor prevented the breach when the non-malevolent security organization proved the security problem had not been patched when they created fake accounts here and shared pictures in the "Private Message" option on BCO. Scary to think what could have happened! Please keep informing us since BCO is not.
-
exbrnxgrl, I do believe you're right, and that yet no one here has come forward as being a part of "testing." I wish I had kept a log of all the things that BCO told us, changed, announced, misspoke, then backtracked on or changed since this fiasco started on March 1. Now with the security breach, who knows where this will go next!
