Hey there Spirited and Lively Older Women....there are no recent posts! ! Why is that...?? Anyone from Orange County, CA? Merry Christmas and Happy New Year... I will be 76 in a couple of days...I do qualify, Right ? Do not feel it ! !.. Looking at life so differently since I was diagnosed in May 2004 with stage 2 b, HR2....reoccurred in May of 2009 and then again in July of 2010....On Tykerb and Zeloda and holding on. Few side affects going into third month of oral chem...Hope to hear from more of you.......Priorties have changed dramatically and I take one day at the time....
-
just passed by again, am off to bed, but wanted to welcome you,Miss Penelope JOnes!!!merry christmas to ya...........3jays mom
-
Hi Penelope! Many of us are nightowls. Not so much me, I am more a morning person. 3jays is usually up all night.
Glad the oral combo is working becuase that sure beats getting an infusion! Merry Christmas and Happy Chanukah!
-
Hi Penelope, welcome . jump in and join us....sometimes we go quiet for a few hours...but NOT very often. Must be we were all mixed up in Christmas.
Had a lovely Christmas Day with DD , SIL and 4 grands.....plus 2 'honourary' (sp does NOT look good to me, but spellchecker says it is OK ) G/daughters, plus 1 extra teen and SILs parents...plus DH !! Good mix of ages, lots of nice presents, very good cooking from DD, but I rather suspect SIL did most of it ! Our plates were absolutely full. It was a flurry of present giving, then eat as much as you can sort of do ! DD had been very busy, had a new kitchen installed last week, and not told me....infact she seems to tell me less and less nowadays. I always have to ask..... then feel intrusive.... one time she was never off the 'phone to me. Now her 2 boys, 23 and 19, have got longterm G/Fs ...the honourary G/daughters... they seem to be her confidantes. They spend a lot of time shopping together, something I can't do for long now....and seem to have lots of little 'in' jokes.
Everyone seemed to have give these 2 girls animal print this year, me included. I bought them both animal print body warmers, one an animal print umbrella, and the other animal print ballerina shoes ! They looked like a pair of leopards, putting on EVERYTHING they'd been given in animal print, and parading around the house, umbrella waving above them as they danced !! They each have a hairless Chinese Crested dog, as DD has, and these 3 weird looking mutts were running wild with them thru' the house. If anyone had looked in thru' the windows they would have wet themselves watching these 2 girls and 3 bald dogs antics ! It is a long time since I have laughed so much.
I had to go and knock over half a bottle of red wine, all over DDs new tablecloth.... then someone else spilt the gravy so I didn't feel so bad ! A good day out, which tells me I deserve a quiet day tomorrow to get over it ....but... I am off out again for an afternoon meal...will be pleased when all comes to a halt. Been invited to a 3 year olds party...my G/daughter, next week, then 2 days later, another party for one of the honourary G/daughters. I have refused an invitation to DDs New Year bash, cannot cope with all her shenanigans at New Year ! They get up to all sorts of ridiculous things, and I feel so stupid sitting there watching it all going on around me...like a wet blanket on the proceedings, so I now steer clear of DDs at New Year.
No puppies were born today. I was going to take my little dog with me, but she was so settled and fast asleep against the radiator that I took a chance and left her...then sighed a big sigh of relief when I got back, and it appeared as if she hadn't moved an inch ! She is still sleeping away, so I will leave her again tonight, but get up about 7 am to check her.
Isabella.

Isabella, you tell stories in such a wonderful way, we all feel like we're watching a video! (Well, at least I do!)
Haven't posted much lately, but I do come to read a lot. Just don't know where the time goes. I'll be home on vaca this week though, so hope to stop in more often.
My very best to you, my wonderful wonderful friends, for a Merry Christmas or Happy Hanukkah, and a Healthy Happy New Year to us all.
-
Hi Penelope! welcome to the family! Pull up a chair grab a coffee (or tea) and sit a spell.
Marle, wonderful to see you!
Isabella you, as usual, have painted a fabulous word picture for us all to enjoy......priceless!!!!
I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas day with family and friends.
Love n hugs. Chrissy

Morning all. Yesterday was a flurry of cooking all day long. The turkey was perfect and so were the gravy, mashies, stuffing, asparagus, cranberry sauce and corn. Whew. I am tired thinking about it. Both dishwashers loaded and done. Now to put the dishes all away today and it is back to normal. Oh and my housekeeper comes today so the house will be clean as well. Life is good!
-
hi Barbara, I've been up for over 24 hours straight now.. the prednisone i'm on, and Cristmas backfired, I gues.. i just stopped by to check on everyone bf i went to bed.. Glad your holidays went well.. I'll have to be the housekeeper today, im afraid..
Hope you have a great day, while i sleep!! love to all........3jays
-
Aw, 3jays, so sorry to hear that the holiday back fired but am not surprised. Hoping you and Mur had a wonderful time just the two of you!
-
Had a really nice CHristmas, relaxing and filled with good food. Just the five of us DH, DD DSIL DGD and me. Oh, and our three collective dogs. Two of them rowdy and so big, running around outside, playing really hard crashing ointo one another. I think they will sleep for days. My little dog stayed inside in someones lap as much as possible.
Dgd loved her new toys including a doll she calls DOLL. We had so much fun with her.
Enjoy the rest of the holidays
Welcome Penelope.
Hugs GInger

barbara: i was tired, when i wrote today.. the Christmas was better than we've had in the last few years!!!.. it was the way i had ro scheduale the thyroid/pain meds that backfired!!!
All went well, my #1 Jay, even "mixed" the 2 families today.. the 1st time he has, since getting married.. 6 yrs now!!!
Well, he's always afraid i'll embarrass him.. so, we go to a bbq resterautn, and i eat a mouthfulof pulled prk.. And, off i go!!! I couldn't get it dislodged from my throat!!!it scared me tremendously. i really thought i was gone, for sure. scared to death!Usually, when it happens, Mur just bangs on my back, and up it comes.. i had part of my epiglottis removed almost 10 yrs ago, it atrphied from MS>>> well, this one was stuck!!! i was turnign blue, Mur wasn't getting anywhere, so one of the guys from the "other side of the family" came, threw me backwards over him, and di hymleich.. nothing!!!so, he did it again.. (im no little gal, as you know) but he's 6'4; and over 180 built like a linebacker, so he did the manuever again, and dropped me from about 3ft high, to my feet.. out came a big blob of pulled pork..from there, my inhaler, and i could breathe again!!we took pics together, afterwards.. i was so scared, and also embarrassed. i promised Jason I'd take a "low profile" with them.. WAY TO GO!!! anyway, came home, im really sore, both my throat, and im sure i'll be bruised tommorrow, from all the banging, and throwing about.. but, im ok..
Calling the dr. tommorrow. need to get my throat scoped.. pretty sure the tyroid mass contributed to this.. don't know if there's anything i can do, but be careful...
anyway, Jason was just upset.. mur said maybe NOW he will, and they will understand better the problems i have.. certainly, NO ONE would do that for attention!!! the guy who poicked me up said he knew Mur wasn't getting it, cause i was turning putple.. truth be told, i was gonna pass out soon! He;s been in the resteraunt business for years, and his size sure helped.. Jason called to see if i was ok later, at home, and he said he thought in a weird way it'll bring us all closer.. I said, well, whadda do i have to do to get a family>>>DIE??? he said no, just ALMOST die, Mom.. i think he was preety shook, as we all were.... and how was your day? hahaha welcome to my world!>>>3jays
-
3jays, I for one am very glad that you did NOT die - that had to scare the living sh*t out of you. Now THAT would have been embarrrassing!!!! I hope your day after bruises aren't too painful hon, and I'm glad Jason wasn't an ass about it in the long run. Good luck with the docs. Gentle hugs

With all this birthday talk, I think it's important to help all women get as many birthdays as possible without the fear of breast cancer hanging over their heads.
Wouldn't it be great if we could eliminate breast cancer altogether and stop it from infecting women? One possibility is a breast cancer vaccine. Have you heard of Dr. Tuohy's preventative breast cancer vaccine? It actually stopped breast cancer from forming in 100% of mice bred to develop this disease. If we could get these same numbers in women, we could eliminate the majority of breast cancer! But here's the sad news: NOBODY has stepped forward to fund human trials on this vaccine. In fact, the Susan G. Komen Foundation has turned down funding Dr. Tuohy THREE TIMES!!! And they talk about racing for the cure.....
We need to change this. We need to fight toward preventing breast cancer. We need to do this for all our daughters, sisters, mothers, and best friends! Let's get the word out and get everyone to donate toward funding this vital research.
-
Eliza, I have read about Dr Tuohey's vaccine and it is a shame that Komen won't cough up a dime to him. More 'awareness'. The hell with awareness! We want a CURE!
3jays, glad the visit went well but so sorry you had to almost die! Jeez Louise.
-
Eliza, I guess all your family has had the vaccine. How are they doing?
3jays, I know EXACTLY how you felt as I choked once on a hard french fry!! We were at home. It lodged in my throat side-ways. I knew instantly to have my DH call 911. I was starting to get gray around the edges and yep, I figured "this was it". I remember thinking, wow, I'm going to die over a friggin' french fry!!! I had mucus and tears streaming down my face so as the ambulance pulled up I blew my nose. THAT dislodged the french fry!!!
The ambulance team admitted that they wouldn't have done anything for me except transport me!!! I said I would have been dead by the time they reached the hospital then...stupid people....
My DH's daughter choked on bacon from a banquet burger at home and my DH did the Heimlich and it worked. He said he had to do it on his dog once so he knew the pressure to use. I hovered over the phone knowing there was no point in calling 911 as she would have been dead by the time they arrived!!!
My Mom was at a dinner party and began to choke. Everyone politely ignored her until she slid under the table. THEN they paid attention!!!
You can see that that topic is very near to my fears!! I am SO glad you are okay 3jays, choking is SO serious!!!! I have to be careful with my thyroid mass too...
-
barbe, I've only seen the Heimlich used once - by a Canada Goose! A pair of them were feeding in the reeds by our dock when one of them started choking. The mate moved along side of the mate and started whipping it's head around to smack the other at the base of it's neck. After 3 or 4 blows the choking goose coughed up to blockage. They rubbed cheeks and twined their necks together for a few moments before swimming off together.

(((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((3jays))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
chabba..what a wonderful story. Birds and animals are the greatest. I heard a scuffling this morning among my dogs, went to investigate... they'd got a little robin. I absolutely screeched my head off at them...the one who had it was shocked at this great big noise from me, dropped the bird, giving me enough time to get to it and pick it up, so it didn't get munched to death. Then the little thing pecked me. Next time I save him (it HAD to be a him ) I shall leave him to get munched....he drew blood... hehehe

Isabella, a few years ago we had a major problem with rodents so someone gave us a cat who was a proven hunter. Within a couple of weeks we no longer had a problem and she began hunting further afield and bring her prey "home". After a few months - no more mice on the doorstep. One day a couple of us were working in the kitchen and someone had left an outside door open. We heard a meow and there was hobo lying at the kitchen door with a live, traumatized but otherwise unharmed chickadee held between her paws. I grabbed a towel and went to rescue it. She looked at me and meowed, then moved her paws aside to let me take the bird. I swear she was saying "see I can still hunt!" I took the bird outside and watched until it flew away.
-
Morning all
Not very lively this morning. ?RA has flared so had dreadful night and it has really affected my feet and hands. Could hardly move during the night. Intend to spend the morning in bed so have laptop here which is great.
Both my cats are hunters. Gus didn't eat all his breakfast this mornng and when my sister commented I had no sympathy as DH said Gus has found a nest and is raiding it. Hope he has a stomach ache. I could hear the birds chiding him this morning. He brought in a huge rat recently- alive but luckily it took of out into the garden. Not sure if he found it but on another occasssion I watched both cats hunting together, really fascinating to see, cats are not supposed to do such things. One day Barny had brought me presents of two birds and I grawled at him telling him that he could catch mice not birds. Next day two mice left on the doorstep.
Hope everyone is feeling good today.
Big hugs
-
Oh Alyson, so sorry about the RA. It stinks!
My cat would be a hunter if I let her outside. As it is now, she chases the native gecko lizards and very often catches them. Then she plays with them until they die and I get to clean up the detached tail and the body. Yuck.

3jays, that must have been a horrifying experience for you! Hate you went through it, but hope maybe, just maybe it woke Jason up a little. Hope you're not too sore today from all the manhandling.
Hugs, Alyson. RA is horrible to have and I'm so sorry it's flared up on you.
I haven't gotten another cat since Sherlock died last year, just have a dog now, but Boris, one of my previous cats, was quite a hunter when he could escape outside and always brought his trophies home to me. His outdoor days came to an abrupt end the day he brought me a snake!

Boy this vacation thing is nice
Going away is great, but sometimes just doing little errands and lazing on the couch works too, which is what I did today. Tomorrow a couple more errands, Thursday visiting friends, Friday awaiting delivery of new computer ordered online. Hub off too and we're just eating and lounging our way to the New Year
-
Alyson: im so sorry the RA is flaring now. i have a friend with it, and i know how bad she can get... and the meds have such dire warnings!!!i hope the next few days will calm it down...

Alyson, I asked on another thread if you take methotrexate?....do you. So sorry for your pain.....know it gets to be old fast. Am so sorry you are all banged up 3jays, but at least you lived to tell about it. Marlegal, Glad you are having a nice relaxing time.
Was it on here or Women with more sense that someone was discussing family trees and geneology? After my trip to MI, I was trying to find out about the guy who used to be in business with my Papa Barry....I googled my grandfather's name and several came up who I knew were not him because they are alive and then way down on the page it said Northville, MI and I came upon his name and a link to someone who had been tracing the Wainwrights. My middle name is Wainwright...it went with the Marybe. So I read the entire thing and found out there were not just two Marybe's.....my mother's great grandmother and her grandmother whom I am named for, but also a few others. This woman had gone to my mother, but did not have my grandmother's (this is on the other side) last name so I wrote and told her how I was a Marybe and gave her my father's name as well as my Grandmother's and told her Papa's sister's name was wrong and corrected a few other things and this woman wrote back to me and says we are 5th cousins and now we are penpals and I am sending her some pics I am having Tim scan. I was not even sure if it was the correct email for this woman since all her info was posted in 2006. Anyway, I thought this was rather interesting......the internet is an amazing thing.
-
Wow Marybe - it sure is thrilling when you can find actual relatives and see your family connections online. I have found a bunch of information on my relatives in England and Scotland while sitting here on my computer in Canada. It really is amazing. What site did you use to get your information?
-
Wow, Marybe, that is really cool!
