So...whats for dinner?

Red vine is a twisted red licorice "rope" and a pixie stick is a straw looking thing with powdered candy in it. I don't think either would be considered health food... :-)
Unfortunately it will likely be our main meal...if we're lucky, there will be hot dogs.
Off to home..got a 90 minute drive home... I hate it.. I would move but my 94 year old mom and 80 some year old mother in law live near where we live now, my daughter is set up in high school near our house and the employer keeps moving.... -
So far so good, tomorrow morning I go see my BS. I am taking the whole day off. It is getting better but really slow.
Don't know what we are having for supper tonight.
(((WHOLE ROOM)
-
Glad you're doing better Deb! Can't imagine what could have caused your problem.
-
Funny how the east vs west coast has different things and some we have never heard of, i have learned a lot of new food names and stuff from the east and mid west. Never would of thought no one heard of red vines or pixie sticks. So much sugar in the pixie sticks but still good and use to eat the red vines almost everyday. the black ones were good too.
Deb- Let us know how your app. goes tomorrow (((((((hugs)))))0
Since DH is off golfing so dinner for me will be a green ortega chile and jack cheese grilled sanny. Popcorn and chocolate chips for dessert tonight!
-
I will, when I get back I just going to do what I want to do. Going to make up for my lost Memorial Day weekend. I should be home if all goes well by 11.
-
Good luck Deb!
Debbie- I agree I have learned so much from this thread and met the best people to boot. Thankful.
A woman I am friends with who is about the same age as I am, 38, just went into hospice and was given a two week time frame because of BC. This just breaks my heart, why does it seem to never end? She has two young kids and fought so hard doing trials etc and nothing worked for her. Tonight I am heavy hearted and shaking my head. Enough.
-
-
Deb,Glad you are on the mend!
Eric, I had no idea you meant candy. I do know pixie sticks, but red vines are known as twizzlers out here.
So sorry to hear about your friend Laurie.....very sad indeed.
Take out mushroom and onion pizza tonight with greek salad. Almost as good as Philly pizza but not quite. -
Deb- Love the picture, she really looks so much like you, the same smile.
Lacey- I think I just drooled a little. Yum on your dinner.
-
Deborye,
Nice picture!!! I think I see a lot of you in her with her eyes and, definitely, her smile!! So beautiful, just like her Mama!
Laurie,
Cancer, of any type, is such a cruel disease! But it is especially sad when someone so young has been dealt with such an unfair hand! Enough, is right! -
For those of us who almost remember Roosevelt in the Rose Garden & certainly remember bomb drills in school - long before there were Pixie Sticks we used to take boxes of jello, pour the 'powder' in our palms & lap it up. Probably about the same sugar rush but lots less dignified. So if you had raspberry - both your hand & your tongue were red.
Laurie - hope the tonsil experience isn't too taxing for you. I remember when I was 4 and the pediatrician promised I would have all the ice cream I could eat as we got into the hospital elevator. Sure - but my throat was too sore to eat it.
First water aerobics class tonight. We've had an average of 13 the last three years, but got 19 tonight. Wonder how many will stick once they discover how sore they are tomorrow after a winter of being slugs.
-
Deb- Your daughter is very pretty i agree with laurie and seaside you look a lot a like.
Ah crap Laurie im so very sorry about your dear friend that is so sad. I hope she goes in peace and pain free. (((((hugs))))

I completely blew my eating plan yesterday. We went to a benefit dinner at a chi-chi hotel and I ate the whole menu, including steak and chocolate mousse. I also had a glass of wine and white bread. Figured I might as well go all out while I was at it. It was good though.

Bonjour from Paris! We are having a grand time, and I am so far behind in writing about our travels. But I wanted to check in with you all and let you know that the weather is fabulous, the food is delicious and the sites are beyond incredible.
We really are having a wonderful time, and this vacation seems to be passing so quickly even though we are having very long days trying to cram in as much as we can while still enjoying the flavor of the city.
Today we are heading to the Musee D'Orsay, which is where we will see our favorite impressionist artworks. This museum is a little more manageable than Le Louvre, which has 30,000 objects on display. By the way, that represents just 8% of the Louvre's collection! Can you imagine keeping track of all those masterpieces? And while the Mona Lisa is a relatively small painting, we couldn't help but wonder how artists in the 15th century created "wall-sized" paintings - did they piece them together? Did they use scaffolding? I guess a class in art history would have been helpful!
After the D'Orsay, we plan to eat at a cafe that has been rated one of the top ten in Paris. Of course it's a subjective review, but we're going to give one of them a try.
Speaking of food, here are a couple pictures of our priceless meal from Le Jules Verne:Cream of Asparagus Soup with creme fraiche This was my dessert - a decadent chocolate thing that was so gorgeous I hated to disturb it! The "complimentary" treats - the green round things are almond flavored macarons. The bowl to the left was homemade marshmallows. It was a shame, really. Way more food than any human could/should eat. But they price it as a 3 course meal, way less expensive than a la carte. We didn't know that the platter full of sweets would arrive after our meal and most of it went to waste.
Wishing everyone a great day!
Michelle -
Michelle- I stopped in right before i was heading off to bed, and oh my gosh this made me so hungry! The food looks so decadent and yummy im so envious of all the great food you get to eat. Im curious to know about the painting as well, if you find out let us know. Have a fun day!
-
Michelle: It warms my heart to see that you are enjoying Paris so much!
We're hitting the road today to head for NC, so I'll be out of touch for a few days until I get set up there.
-
Michelle - i remember ordering a sandwich and salad combo (the cheapest item) at a bus stop in France. It was like the best meal I had ever eaten.. Everything was ultra fresh and the sandwich (a croque monsiuer?) was absolutely to die for.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Croque-monsieur
People were so nice to me when i travelled.. it must have been obvious i was dirt poor, and dirty and needed a bit of help. At the same bus station, i caught the ferry to London and I had an opportunity to buy a little box lunch. the owner of the shop cafe went to the back and got me a special sack lunch to take.. no charge. I don't know if it was old but it sure was good.
an apple, a pear, cheese, bread and some veggies.. also a little sandwich and a bottle of water.
I am really happy you chose to travel Michelle.
-
That looks YUMMY Michelle..
Thanks everyone for the compliments on DD. She is our pride and joy.
I'm back, the appt was uneventful. Staying on the Doxycycline for a few weeks, in the meantime if the pink does not go away or gets worse or I start to run a temp, I am to call right away to come in.
I think I will treat myself to a mani and a pedi today.
-
Good news Deb!
Kaara- Have a fun filled trip and safe travels.
Apple- Such a sweet story. I love hearing about your travels and things you have done. How are you feeling these days has your appetite come back?
-
Apple,
Loved your story! Isn't it funny how such a simple meal can taste so good and how an act of kindness is remembered years later!!! -
Steak tips and corn on the cob. I bought the corn at Market Basket, it was delish.
-
Kaara, Safe travels to NC!!
Deborye,
Sounds good!! We tend to get a little spurt of good corn on the cob from down south around this time and we take advantage of it because the next shot we get is local corn in August! Mmmmmm, love, love good corn on the cob!! -
Good morning! Just finished our breakfast of coffee, juice, quiche, and baguette spread with Societe Creme cheese - this stuff is fabulous. It's like cream cheese but with Roquefort added to it. My DH has been so good and gone out every morning to pick up breakfast from one of the many bakeries near us.
-
Haven't caught up on all the posts but will later today.
Eric, I didn't know about pixie sticks or red vines either. I hate the idea of long commutes. I've never done it. Now I hate the idea of employment!
Kaara, safe travel. Look forward to hearing from you again. You add a lot to our discussion, especially a positive outlook.
Laurie, thanks for telling us about your brave friend. I feel very sad thinking about her.
Michelle, wonderful post! The food in the pictures was so lovely it seemed a shame to eat it and destroy the art! So glad your trip is measuring up to expectation.
Debbie, the day we ate at the restaurant a whale had been sighted out in the ocean. Everything about the lunch experience was good, the food, the service, the ambience.
Deb, your daughter is beautiful. Glad you're recovering.
Yesterday dh and I bicycled 13 miles. It's 2 1/2 miles through the campground here in Gulf Shores, AL, to get to the Backwood bike trail. We took the twin bridges part of the trail which was about 4 1/2 miles one way with some curves and ups and downs. I was pooped when we got back to our camp site. Also soaking wet with perspiration.
Once we were rested and showered, we went out to lunch at Cosmos in Orange beach and had another delicious lunch. Crab cakes with a special aioli, butter lemon asparagus, and a green salad with blue cheese dressing. Dh had the crab cakes, too, but caesar salad and polenta. The crab cakes were larger than I expected but I ate the entire lunch and was more full than yesterday.
This morning we're going out for breakfast, packing up and heading home. About a 4-hr. drive. Last night it rained. The rain on the roof of the 5th wheel is nice to hear when you wake up for a few seconds and then go back to sleep.
Hugs to all.

so last nite was the beginning of Old Shawnee Days.. a festival with rides and cotton and candy. On Thursdays all the tweens buy twenty dollar passes and have fun all nite. I didn't go. I usually enjoy just seeing those beautiful kids and their short shorts and makeup.. the flirting, the screams of joy....
anyway, my kids each had several kids come over to eat before hand. there were 9 at our table. I made a couple huge Chicago deep dish pizzas. (a cornmeal crust, with olive oil.. it's really good. They polished off one of them and I left the other one out so they could eat it.... there is a single piece.. i bet they left it for me. They are very thoughtful.
i love having lots of kids around. My kids have been really great about finding good friends... so slouchers or druggies. I'm fortunate.
I pretty much use this recipe.. it's absolutely delicious and very authentic. I used to live in Chicago and would save my money for months to go to Pizzeria Uno...
We have nothing like this in Kansas City.
-
There is a Pizzera Uno in Phoenix. When I worked close to it, Sharon would bring our then infant daughter and meet me for lunch there. Good food and good memories...... I'm glad you mentilned that place. For some reason, I needed a "pick-me-up" this morning. Thanks
-
Morning everyone! We made it to NC in record time! We ate at our favorite mexican restaurant last night. I was up and out in the yard at 7:00 AM this morning while it was a cool 50 degrees...pulling weeds and trimming bushes to make it at least presentable. Everything was soooo overgrown! I worked out there for about three hours before I thought I better take a break or I might not be able to get out of bed tomorrow..lol! I can't believe I had so much energy, but this place does that to me with the cooler termperatures and lower humidity. I'm going to need to hire someone to trim all of the big bushes and trees, but I got most of the little stuff done.
Carole...sounds like you are having a great time, and when you bike like that, you can eat anything you want and it doesn't matter because you burn it right off!
Deb: Glad you are feeling better...your daughter is just beautiful...I know how proud you must be!
Michelle: Keep enjoying your journey...take lots of photos!
Apple: That cornmeal crust sounds delicious...is it gluten free?
Next I have to tackle the unpacking...not nearly so much fun as working in the yard!
-
Laurie- How is your dear friend doing? You have been on my mind. ((((hugs)))))
Seaside- Our BD's are getting closer but it also means were getting older
Michelle- Your food always sounds so good, i looked up the societe roquefort and i think i have seen that in my gourmet market i will have to check it out and mix that with some cream cheese it had my mouth watering.
Carol- Wow you must be in good shape to bicycle 13 miles. Glad you had a good time, be safe driving home.
Apple- We had a uno's pizzaria in Hawaii when i lived there my dh and i would go there on the weekends and eat and lsiten to our favorite band when we first met, sadly they closed down before we moved we were so bummed because we really loved there pizza. Thanks for the recipe i saved it to my favorites.
Kaara- I bet your enjoying that cooler weather
So this morning i woke up chilly because my DH forgot to turn off the overhead ceiling fan like he does every morning before he leaves for work, i was groggy and half asleep but got up to turn it off, i tripped over the computer wires and landed flat on my face i came inches from hitting the entertainment center and probably knocking myself out, i must of slid like going into third base or something because my knees are all skinned and red and my wrist hurts so does my back now, i layed there for a second thinking what the shit!! I wasnt sure if i was hurt or not but i was sure pissed at my husband for a few minutes. LOL! Im fine but i was little shaken not stired!
-
Carol - I agree 13 miles!!! Wow!! Eat what ever you want you have earned it, I don't think I could bike 13 miles, unless maybe if it was really really flat. It sounds like you have had a great time.
Michelle- Love the stories and the food pics, so glad you are having an amazing trip!
Debbie- Holy smokes!! Glad you are ok and you sure made the story funny for us, "shaken not stirred"!
Carrie- Every time you mention going out on your boat I smile. I miss our boat we had some amazing days on the lake.
Apple- as always you amaze me keeping up with the appetite's of those kids! The deep dish pizza looks really good...I copied it down and will have to try it.
Kaara- So glad you made it safe and sound. You sound so excited to be back!! Don't over do it! Enjoy the no humidity and find some shade to relax in while you sip a favorite beverage. You've earned it!
DS #2 had his tonsils and adenoids out yesterday and he is being such a trooper. He never cried once through the whole thing yesterday, not even when he woke up. For the most part he has been happy and doing great. As his meds start to wear off he will start to get upset but with in 10 minutes he is ok again. The kid ate about 10 pancakes yesterday. They said if he was really hungry let him try to eat and he could not get enough. It was a good thing because the codeine would be pretty hard on an empty belly. He has really surprised us at how well he handled it all.
My friend from what I have been told is not in pain but is incoherent most of the time. Her family is having a very hard time accepting this. It is so sad.
I still have no oven. I ordered it online 2 days ago and it said it was in stock but as of yet it is not ready for pick up. Grrrr....it's getting annoying not having an oven. Ohwell. Life is all about perspective.
I went to the cardiologist today and he was very nice. He spent a lot of time with me and basically they have no idea why I was having the PVC's. They have been much better for a few weeks now so he said no need for meds etc. He said frequently with women when they have episodes such as I did it can be hormone related. Peri menopause (!!?!!?) Keep in mind I just turned 37 on Saturday!! So, I take it as good news as there is nothing horribly wrong and I will just keep trucking.
Hope everyone is enjoying the day!
-
Hi everyone! We are in for the night a little early, we are all tired after our day at the Chateau de Versailles. The place is unbelievable...there's more gold than Ft. Knox!!! And the ceilings...oh the ceilings are beyond belief. We took a taxi to and fro, as the local train was not handicap accessible. Then we went to dinner at a little cafe near us and had a great dinner. I had duck with a fabulous orange sauce, roasted apples and fried potatoes. My daughter had a steak with potatoes dauphine, DH had veal milanese and my other daughter had roasted chicken with haricot verts. But of course, the star of the show was dessert...a beautiful apple tarte, a banana and chocolate crepe and a coconut chocolate crepe. I'm going to exceed the weight limit when I go to get on the plane...LOL!
Are you drooling, are you drooling toute mes soeurs, toute mes soeurs...
