So...whats for dinner?

Eric, raspberry tart is really good. Bake a nice, slightly sweetened pastry shell (made with butter), fill with good pastry creme, thinnish layer, then set nice raspberries gently into the creme. Simple, but really good.
-
Mommine, that does sound good.
Right now it's hot dogs on the grill and a beer. Sharon managed to gather up enough energy to drink a margarita. It didn't help with her being tired or help with her hair, but it sure did improve her outlook! :-) Come to think of it, the ale I had didn't hurt my outlook any either.
Tomato season is just about over here in Phoenix...I set them out in early March and by mid June it's too hot for them to set fruit--even when I shade them. The only tasty ones that I can grow in that short amount of time are the Yellow Pear ones. I've been saving seeds from the ones that manage to put out a lot of fruit in a short amount of time, so I do OK.
Still, when I retire...Sharon wants a place with 4 seasons and I want a place that is out of the $**$($&#^ city... Finding a place that meets both requirements shouldn't be too hard.
-
eric: The place where we spend the summers near Asheville NC has beautiful four seasons. In spring the dogwoods and azelas bloom, in summer the hydrangeas, and then you have the beautiful fall colors, plus the green mountains of the Blue Ridge. The only reason we don't live there year round is beause all of our kids and grands live in Fl.

Hi everyone! I'm back! You have all been so busy. I'm glad everyone has been having a good weekend and relaxing a bit.
Thank you for the birthday wishes. We had a great weekend, the weather was amazing and we had a lot of laughs. The food was constant and we love the new griddle we bought at Christmas time. Breakfast was fun to cook and we had everything and anything. Pancakes, sausage , home fries, eggs grilled muffins and bagels, fruit yogurt....seriously breakfast was a 2 hour eating fest every day. The kids wake up early so we eat, go for a bike ride, eat, go down to the beach, eat....
I can honestly say I am exhausted. I plan to head to bed by 9. I am planning on getting the.modem tomorrow so I can get back on line.
Michelle love the blog posts, the pictures are amazing!!! -
Welcome back Laurie: Glad you all had a good time!

Welcome back Laurie: Glad you all had a good time!
-
Seaside: Do look into the sea-sick patch that Kaara recommended. They work really well and you won't have the drowziness you get with Dramamine or Bomine.
-
The sourdough just came out of the oven....It's almost too hot to touch....just right for a slice to met butter onto and eat..... :-)
-
Bedo- I cracked up at you nameing your goat "Butthead" Thats what hubby calls me lol! I have not seen gooseberries in ages they had them in california when i lived there though. Hope you get some vacation time you deserve it!
Laurie- Glad you had a good time, your food sounds amazing, i swear nothing tastes better than food that is prepared while camping! Hope you get your modem so we see you more, miss ya! How have you been feeling? Have the palpitations calmed down?
Eric- Bread sound yummy! We have all 4 seasons here in Oregon, When i lived in hawaii thats the only thing i missed so i understand your dw missing that.
The fleet of flowers was amazing. They had tons of boats that had huge reefs on them and once they got out of the harbor they put them in the water along with other single flowers people were throwing off the bridge, just georgous! Went to a friends new condo right on the beach and had wine and horderves then went to a restaurant that we had never been too called tidal raves. I had the coconut crusted Mahi-Mahi that had a pineapple salsa that was fantastic. A wonderful salad with there house made white balsamic dressing, im going to buy the white balsalmic from now on it is delicious.
Been a long fun day, actually think i will go to bed before 3am! lol!
-
debbie: Sounds like you had a wonderful day, and your dinner sounded delicious!
We went to a movie yesterday "The Exotic Marigold Hotel" and it was wonderful. Made by the same group that did "Slumdog Millionaire" and it was equally well done. Beautiful photographic scenes of India...makes me want to go there to experience the culture. Great acting too! Don't miss it.
After that we came home and I made a pork loin with sweet potato and summer squash sauteed with olive oil and onions. That's about the end of the freezer meat, so I can leave for NC knowing my freezer contains no foods that could spoil in a power outage.
This week is a series of last minute doctor app'ts...one with my MO...he does this every three months, and one with my retina specialist for my eye injection..ugh! They will do another scan to find out if the injections have stopped the progression of my AMD in my left eye.
Have a good day everyone!
-
I am back on line!!!!! Yayyy!!!
Kaara good luck with your dr appts this week. I finally go see the cardiologist on Friday. the PVC's have been almost completely gone now for two weeks. I however have dizzy spells quite frequently. I am on antibiotics to see if it is sinus related and so I far I have gotten some relief since I started with it. Thanks for the tip on the movie.
Have to run but I will be back on later. I am a little too excited to be back on the computer, using your phone gets old fast.
-
Laurie: happy that your PVC's have calmed down. Keep taking those probiotics...I take one daily regardless...it helps keep the good bacteria established in your system.
My app't with MO went well...he is even checking Vit D levels which is extraordinary for a conventional doc. I'm liking him better and better, plus the office is so efficiently run...you are in and out in a jiffy! My last mammo was clear so after I get my eye injection tomorrow I'm good to go!
-
Kaara- Your dinner sounds good, i have a pork loing in the freezer just may get that out to cook in the next couple of days. Good luck with your dr appointments hope all goes well.
Laurie- So glad to hear your feeling better.
Michelle- Hope you are having a fun exciting day!

in the midwest we call it St. Louis Steak.. pork steaks. My son kind of likes his meats underdone.. nice and juicy but i will insist on a well done one for me.
i am making a salad of garbanzoes, olives, mozarella, diced veggies and herbs and maybe we'll have the korean rice stick stir fry stuff. yum - or macaroni and cheese.. i don't know. i have troubles coming up with starches. My boys are working with my husband on the property and they can EAT like horses.
-
Thanks Kaara and MinusTwo,
I will ask my PCP for a patch presrcription when I see him in July.
Kaara, what was the reason for using 1/4 of a patch? I wonder if weight makes a difference in how big of a piece would be effective.... I will have to google around... Did you have any trouble when you removed the patch? I read of some who had some vertigo which they attributed to withdrawal from the patch... -
I learn somthing new here every day Apple- I thought st louis steak was a beef steak. I like mine med to med rare uless its pork of course. Hey i rhymed lol!
-
Italian Calzone for me tonight. DH is going for the Steak and Cheese Calzone.
-
Hi Deborye!! Been thinking of you! How are you feeling?
-
Seaside: I use 1/4 of the patch because I have a fairly low weight (124 lbs) My doc said why would a full patch be prescribed for someone who weighs what I do and the same for a 200 lb man?
If you use only 1/4 to 1/2 of the patch, you will avoid a lot of the SE's like the dizziness that sometimes happens when you get off the boat. It's just logical thinking.
-
Hi everyone...busy, busy, busy here. Not much cooking going on. We have been on and off the boat and at the marina for the past 3 days, then jumped back in with the schoolwork. Having a short week puts me behind a little. Also had some pretty severe storms go through here yesterday, kind of tornado-like ripping up a lot of trees, was without power for about 3hrs.
Tonight our friends want to go out to dinner at the local italian place...not so sure I will go....dont like to spend the money.
Deb hope you are getting better, let us know.
-
Carrie- we got lucky and the storms died down before they get to us. When I saw what was headed our way I about pooped my pants!!!
Tomorrow is the day DS#1 gets his tonsils out. We loaded up on ice cream, popsicles and gatorade today. I'm nervous!! He got to choose what we have for dinner tonight, he picked cheese burgers. I am cheese burgered out but it's his choice.
I think I am just going to order the new oven on line through Sears. I just don't have time to go to the store and shop for it and I need a working oven again sooner rather than later. The one I think I am going to get is in stock so we should be able to get it in the next 2 days.
Deb- How are you doing?
-
Carrie- Sounds like you had a great 3 days. Your storm sounds like it was really scarey!
Laurie- Good luck with your sons tonsils, i still remember when i got mine out. a sore throat but loved all the ice creams i got to eat. Crap Laurie whats up with all the dam storms you get in that area, i would of pooped my pants too after all you have dealt with on those storms. I heard one big rumble here last night that wasnt expected and it scared me but that was it just one big loud one and it was over, i prayed so hard, lol!
Deb- Please let us know if you are ok, hope your antibiotics kicked butt and your feeling better!
I wanted a salad for lunch but the lettuce was turning brown, then i realized i wanted a salad because of the croutons, so i put some croutons in a bowl and put some ranch over it, it was very satisfying!
-
No cooking tonight! Whatever produce is left in the refrigerator will get packed in a cooler and go to NC! Last night we had dinner at a friend's home...she is a wonderful cook...fish, some kind of summer salad with tomatoes, peppers, avocados, black beans and corn with a lime dressing, and a delicious rice she prepared in her rice cooker. Then a layered ice cream dessert with chocolate on top...yum!
Tonight we're dining with friends at a local asian restaurant.
-
Debbie, DH and I ate at Tidal Raves when we wandered down the Oregon coast a few years ago. The food there was very good. I can remember that I had the crab cakes. It's a very nice restaurant.
Eric, the bread smells delicious!
-
I'm in Gulf Shores, AL, in an area popularly dubbed "LA" for "lower Alabama." We're residing in our 5th wheel rv in the state park, which is very nice. This morning we bicycled for a couple of hours. Then we had lunch in nearby Orange Beach at an excellent restaurant, Shipp's Harbor Grill. We both had the Grouper Pontchartrain, crisp panfried grouper filet served with a light buttery sauce with mushrooms and shrimp. Sides were delicious green beans and gouda mashed potatoes. The portions were just right. Not large.
We sat on the outdoor veranda overlooking a marina with expensive-looking boats. There was a delightful sea breeze. One of our good lunch experiences.
We talked to a couple in the restaurant who gave us some other good restaurant recommendations.
Deb, how are you? And Michelle, we're waiting for more travelogue.
Laurie, I think about you as I watch all the young children out bicycling with their parents.
Kaara, hope you have a good trip to NC.
Hi to everyone else not mentioned by name.
-
Basmati rice and dim sum.
-
Carol- That is awesome you ate here in my town before. We will def be going back there, and love the view of the ocean too. Your comment on erics bread smelling good made me laugh, we now have smellaputervision lol! Your trip sounds like so much fun wish i could get hubby to go on a camping road trip. I miss that.
Selena- Yummm!
-
son #2 has an uncanny knack for making delicious chicken salad.. it is just perfect and delicious. I let him make that - he made about 5 pounds which should keep him satisfied for a couple days. I am sauteeing mozarella sticks and serving it with this tomato sauce from this restaurant my friends own. the sauce is sooooooooo good..
carrot sticks, sauteed brussel sprouts.. kind of balanced with something for everyone.
-
Five pounds? That long? He must be eating a bunch of other stuff too. :-)
Tonight will be a "snack shack" night.... red vines, pop corn, pixie sticks, hot dogs, etc.
I'm in the office (41 miles of cross town traffic between me and home) and DD has a softball game tonight.
I will do better tomorrow.....
Eric -
No need for food apologies here, Eric. Many have posted our snack dinners here.....the most popular being popcorn! What is a pixie stick and what is a red vine?
Am heading off to pack for a long weekend at my college reunion in South Bend, Ind. I will travel most of tomorrow to get there and most of Snday to get home. No direct route from Beantown to northern Indiana! Sadly, the forecast is for rain for the next two days....and only in the sixties temp wise. Maybe it will change....:) Looking forward to seeing my college friends!
