I wasn't there when they left my brother. The 8 younger siblings were on the family vacation.. they stopped in New Mexico.. the roads go on and on. At last they figured out he was missing, but wasted almost 4 hours on the round trip.
Tomorrow - the very funny story of Jesus Christ and his social security number.
-
This will make you misty eyed.

Welcome Home, Michelle!!! I so enjoyed your posts both here and on your blog! You have a real knack for writing! So glad you enjoyed your trip but it's always good to come home.... Rest well in your own bed tonight! I'm sure it will feel heavenly!
Apple,
You have peaked my curiosity.... lol. Look forward to your story! -
I agree with Seaside, you have peeked my curiosity- You always leave us wanting more!
Deb- That was beautiful.
-
Thanks for the compliments about my writing. I had great intentions of making a daily entry on my blog, but it got away from me. We were on the go from morning until midnight every day, so I had all I could do to check in once in a while here and on a Diabetes blog that I have been on for several years. I'll have time to catch up over the next few days. I want to do it while I can still remember everything!
And Apple, your sense of humor is incredible! I wish I could have met you when we were almost neighbors!!!
-
Carole, have you settled on a carrot cake recipe yet? I always used my mom's which is an oldie but goodie....then recently made one with more spices and no nuts, raisin, etc. from The Treats Truck Baking Book by Kim Ima. If you are still looking I'd be happy to write one or both out.......and I feel that all carrot cake is yummy...maybe because they typically have that great cream cheese icing.
Let me know..... -
Michelle- Glad you are home safe and resting (hopefully) Can't wait to hear all the details.
Lauire- How are you doing? I know these last few days have been really hard for you with losing your dear friend. Thinking of you! xoxo
-
I just found this thread...hope you dont mind me joining in?
Michelle... I have been following your trip to Paris on your blog and these posts. I agree, you have a great knack for writing. Hoping you feel better soon and enjoy your own bed tonight.
For dinner tonight... chicken pot pie and fresh green beans... followed by a bowl of praline & caramel ice cream !
-
deborye - thank you for posting that link! My DH was in the Pentagon on 9/11, and spent 28 years in the Air Force - the song gave me goosebumps, and made me feel so proud of his service.
I too enjoy this thread - dinner tonight is meatloaf glazed with chili sauce (beef/pork/veal combo) baby red potatoes with parsley and steamed green beans. It is a DH fave!

sooooooooooo.. i had a brother. I was about 2.5 years older than he was. In his late teens he was diagnosed a severe schizophrenic. We were very close and I spent the next ten years, taking him places in the afternoons, playing chess, visiting towns, galleries and shops. He had owned a Volkswagon bug.
One morning he had dissappearred. We looked for him for about 9 months. One day was got a call from the State of California.. "Do you happen to know a
Peter Bry**? We said yes. Apparently, he had gone of his meds, went totally bonkers, thought he was Jesus Christ. He would bless people when they asked him questions and would never reveal who he was because he really thought he was Jesus. One clever case worker said "Jesus.. do you know your social security numver? and he rattled it off. I swear the next day - he was back in Kansas City.. with a private escort on his plane.
He was quite happy and chipper to be back. (and sadly died about 7 years later of suicide).

Apple- My heart just ached after reading this sad story about your dear brother, im in tears right now. Im sure he is your guardian angel watching over you and at peace too. ((((hugs)))))
Cute how he remembered his SS # and glad you got to spend time with him again before he passed.
-
Apple a very sad story, I am also sure he is looking down on you....you were probably his one true friend that could understand who he was.
Welcome specialk and Tazzy thanks for posting your meals Yum for the ice cream. I am not a desert maker so my DH settles for a bowl of ice cream for his desert. (almost every night LOL)
I got a call from PS yesterday that they had a cancellation, so I went in today and got my tattoo!! YAY! NOW I am officially done. Oh my goodness its been a long road.
-

Asking for a little prayer for my FSIL, he is having his gallbladder out Thursday. He has not been able to keep anything down and he is jaundice. Stones must be blocking a duct.
-
deb: Sending prayers your way...and how are you feeling...better I hope?
-
deb - thanks for the welcome - sending good wishes for your FSIL - if they are doing it by laproscope it is a pretty easy surgery - hope he does well.
carberry - congrats on the tats!
apple - your brother must have been a gentle soul at heart to want to be Jesus - I am sorry you lost him sooner than you should have.
debbie - the dinner smelled yummy to me, DH and DD loved it - I am trying to behave so having salad with vinaigrette and some chicken. Thanks for the welcome!
-
I'm still on antibiotics, they make me nauseous, about a half an hour after I take it on an empty stomach, I have all I can to keep the pill down. I can take it with milk or food but it says it decreases the strength. Tata is a lot better but still has some tenderness, swollen slightly and a very light pinkish purple color, mostly on the underside. I have a mammo the 21st of June along with a follow up then I see my onc.
-
Thanks for the welcome ladies.
SpecialK I am impressed with your willpower for dinner. The first week after chemo I always crave 'comfort' foods, chick pot pie I consider one.
Apple - thank you for sharing your story of your brother. Very special and humbling.
Off to put the chicken pie in the oven - have a lovely evening ladies and chat tomorrow.

Lacey, I found several recipes for carrot cake. I think I'll try the one in the revised Joy of Cooking.
Welcome to Tazzy and Special K. Glad you chimed in.
Dinner tonight was seared catfish fillets, coleslaw, and fresh green beans. I steamed the beans and then sauteed them in butter and garlic and sprinkled Asiago cheese. Everything tasted good.
This is a great time of the year for berries and fruit. Today I bought blackberries, blueberries, strawberries, mangos, peaches, bananas, limes and watermelon. Tomorrow is the pickup for CSA veggies.
-
Yes, they are doing it by laparoscopic. I'm praying there are no complications, hospitals in Bermuda are not like here.
It's called laparoscopic cholecystectomy.
-
yeah.. i loved my brother big time. The brother between us was brain damaged and altho he is my 'favorite' brother, Peter and I were very close because he was a normal child and very shy. I had two jobs during his hospitilazation time.. He'd be in and out all the time. He'd call me up and say 'Mary dear' - can i borrow 20 bucks.. every week. He'd give all his money to the homeless guys downtown. he was special.. and so beautiful.. I'll find a photo. When he died it about killed me.. i became an instant alchoholic.. only lasted a couple months tho.
-
deb - will send positive thoughts for the surgery!
tazzy - I have willpower because I finished chemo a year ago and I have been standing in my closet looking at all the clothes I don't fit into!apple - I lost my brother, my only sibling, in '08 to stage IV bile duct CA - I miss him and understand how sad it is.
carole - thanks! Are you still looking for a carrot cake recipe - that was you a couple of pages ago, right? I have a good one that has crushed pineapple in it - keeps the cake moist. Let me know.
-
so Peter, is in the middle of the couch between two girls. John, is on the far left. we all were a hotbox team. It looks like all the kiddies were born by then.. I am holding the youngest, Emily on the right. funny how we are all pretending to read.
-
so I think I will cook something good tomorrow.. any ideas?
-
Apple. Thank you for sharing.
I could tell when Chrissy was beginning to read and it happened at a bakery in front of a carrot cake. She was four and I was getting a cake for my dad's 89th birthday She was looking longingly at each of the cakes and pointing at the little signs with the cake type and price. When she got to the carrot cake, I heard...."EEEUUUU....WHY!?!???" She then moved on and went back to drooling at the other cakes.....
Sharon was still buzzing from the steroids and she cooked tonight. It was kind of a Thai meets Mexican food...I didn't see the recipe, but it was a peanut sauce (probably peanut butter thinned out in a tiny bit of oil) mixed in with shredded chicken; an onion, corn and mint "salsa"; chopped cabbage..all put on hot corn tortillas.
