So...whats for dinner?

Did some therapeutic shopping today...major shopping...LOL! I think I've now got everything I need to look stylish in Paris
except for a new handbag. I haven't found the one that makes me smile just yet, but it's out there somewhere. I bought a dress to wear to DD's graduation - black with white polka dots which seem to be very "in" this season. I have just one dress in my closet, so it was a necessary purchase
We had tacos tonight for dinner, DH's request. Easy-peasy.
Carrie - glad you are feeling much better!
-
Carrie, glad you are on the mend!
Michelle, how neat for you to prepare not only for the graduation, but also FOR THE TRIP TO PARIS. WOO HOO!!! Love the idea of the polka dot dress. You'll be classy/adorable! I am almost moved to go shopping after reading your post! I have hardly been in a clothes store since last August, but do need to get some new duds for my college reunion at the end of the month.....thanks for the motivation!
Deb, the turkey story was funny! We rarely see the wild turkeys up north, see more down here...but up there do see coyotes, foxes, moose, deer, bear(once sitting on a neighbor's swing set, so no more bird feeding for us either, except for the sweet little hummers) and plenty of skunks.
Potty story (dumb mommy) alert! When DS1 was first daytime trained, I kept putting a diaper on him for night expecting that he'd need it. It became a habit (for me) and I never had to worry about washing sheets (something i recall my mother hating since my sister had a kidney disorder and wet the bed often). So, at DS1's 3rd PE appt the peds asked me if he was trained for both day and night, and After I thought about it, stupidly said "I guess so" but I still put a diaper on him at night. He looked at me like I was nuts...."well is it wet in the morning?". ...."no"..... "so stop doing it, since he obviously doesn't need it." Sequel....a few weeks later DH and I both woke up in the middle of the night (remember this was our first child...no one else lived with us), hearing the toilet flush. We looked at each other shocked, and at first actually wondered if it was a burgular!! Jumped up and saw DS1 walking back to his little bed. A very funny milestone for our little boy...I'll always remember that toilet flush in the middle of the night!
Last night we had our favorite Greek restaurant's kebabs as well as a greek salad with grilled chicken....and my favorite winger squash. Today I had a greek omelet for lunch. Maybe it is time for me to head to Santorini! I am still deciding what to eat tonight.. DH out and I'm more tired than hungry, so may have some weird foods.....better go check some out! -
For the first time since my first tx, my stomach is feeling "off." I had a big (for me) lunch of two bean burritos from Taco Bell, so right now Husband is being useful and popping me a bag of microwave popcorn. That's probably going to be it for me tonight.
-
Welcome Cottontail! I'm pretty sure I couldn't have eaten anything from Taco Bell when I was doing chemo...hoping popcorn does the trick for you. I have it for supper almost once a week!
Lacey - that is a funny potty-training story! And college reunion, time to pull out all the wardrobe stops!!!
-
May 20th about 20 1969 grad girls are getting together to have a cookout at one of the girls house. I said I would make Chili, never made Chili but have tried one at work when we had a Chili cookoff. It was Pumpkin Spice Chili. I loved it. I don't like my Chili hot (spicey) anyone have a easy recipe?
-
LuvRVing, today's Taco Bell lunch wasn't my first choice, as I had to spend my lunch "hour" (30 minutes actually) running to my pharmacy to get a prescription for thrush. Had to cruise through the drive-thru to get anything at all.
Tonight's popcorn was fabulous! I'm having problems tasting anything, but I could at least taste the salt. Delicious!
-
dinner tonight was tuna gravy over toast, then after zumba tonight I was ravenously hungry, so I had my pickle turkey cream cheese snack and several almonds, and carmel rice cakes
-
We went to Carabba's for dinner last evening...very disappointing. Everything on the menu has gone up in price...the salad was not as good as our little itallian eatery around the corner from us, and the trout I ordered came out very dry. I had to ask for more sauce. It was pricey as well...$22! We had it at Legal Seafood several weeks before for much less and a better atmosphere. Live and learn...won't go back there anytime soon. One thing that was good was my spinach sauteed in garlic.
We always order the mussels as an appetizer (my son's favorite) and they were good too, so maybe it wasn't all bad.
Today is my DGD's birthday, so she is coming over and bringing my DGGD and we'll go out to lunch to celebrate her special day. She is working two jobs right now trying to keep her head above water while the baby's father pays little or no child support, so she deserves a nice day. I'm gong to slip a little extra money in her card and hope she doesn't tell the other grands or they will be jealous. My oldest DGD lives with her rich boyfriend and has had little or nothing to do with the family for over a year...what's up with that! When I sent her birthday card this year, I had to send it to DD's house because I didn't have her address. I told DD to tell her that if she wanted her birthday money, she had to show up to get it, because I no longer send money through the mail! Still haven't heard from her! Guess they all go through that stage in their lives.
-
Cottontail WELCOME When I was going through chemo i ate my weight in dill pickles...same thing...I think I liked the salt, or it was all i could taste. My best girlfriend cleaned out her pantry of all of her canned pickles from the summer and "donated" them to me. Will have to can some more this summer to replace them.
Michelle You are going to be soooo fashionable in Paris! i saw a polka dot dress in the thrift store window here in this small town and exclaimed to my friends" OMG I love that dress" checked it out but it was only like a size four....if it was the right size I would have bought it just for no reason.
Off to Ohio..will check in on Monday. Everyone have a great weekend!
-
i can truthfully say i have never ordered anything from taco bell for myself.. i have for this guy whose car i hit tho. a few years back.
-
Carrie - have a great trip!!!
Cottontail - salty things tasted good to me, too. And sweet - we went out for ice cream three times a week last summer! But I couldn't eat anything with any spice at all, so I just stayed away from anything Mexican. My DH was craving it a couple times and I tried, but it just made me feel miserable. He finally got the idea that he'd have to wait or go without me! Sorry to hear you're suffering with thrush, hope the script fixes things for you. I had a lot of different SEs from chemo, thrush was not one of them!
Kaara - sorry to hear you didn't enjoy your Carrabba's meal. When we were in MO, there was one five minutes from our house and we went quite often. I love their bread with dipping oil. And when I have a bad cold, nothing beats their chicken soup (except maybe my own). I used to send DH for carside service all the time! I haven't eaten there in quite a while, there's one near my mom's place but it's not open for lunch.
Where's Debbie?
-
Michelle- I love dressess with polka dots! They look so fashionable and adorable on. I find that JC Penny's always have such cute purses and affordable too!
Apple- LOL on the buying taco bell for someone whos car you hit! Too funny! (not funny on hitting the car though) Oops!
Carrie- Hope you feel better soon.
DH left yesterday around 4 for his trip to Chicago- 10 minutes after he left I high tailed it out to the casino LOL! Didnt win but had a good time. I played bingo- Havn't done that in a long time, I actually enjoyed it, except some of those older ladies get so snarley! Then ate at the buffet, which was so good. I didnt get home until about 9pm. Then decided to make cheese enchaladas for dinner for tonight and choc cream pie. Had so much energy. It must of been all that iced tea i drank all day.
-
Deb- I might have posted my chili recipe here before. It is very easy and has tons of flavor. Saute your beef with onions and garlic. (Drain real well) In large pot, I put 4 cans of red kidney beans, (rinsed and drained) and 2 large cans of whole peeled tomatoes, kind of squish them up with fingers. Add beef mixture to pot. Add 2 packages of mild chili seasonings, add, salt pepper, garlic powder, Add red pepper chili flakes, just a few shakes wont be too spicy, i use lots though, gives it more flavor. When ready to serve I top with some grated cheddar. Edited to add: Bring to boil, then lower to med low heat, cook for about 1-2 hrs
Kaara- Happy Birthday to your GD!
-
Yummmm...chili sounds good! It's been challenging since BF is now allergic to tomatoes...I used them in all my sauces and soups, so now things taste bland.
I made my aisan lettuce wraps tonight...threw them together in about a half an hour when I got home from having my nails done. Talk about customer for life...I had that new gelish polish the last time, the kind that doesn't chip, but it has to be removed at the salon and it took almost 15 minutes of sitting with my fingertips covered in foil and remover before it would budge! Mine polish lasted three weeks but I don't always get my nails done on a regular basis, so this may be the last time I use this method.
DGD and DGGD enjoyed their lunch today. The little one sat right at the table and ate everything we ate...she loves to eat! She has big blue eyes, a head full of curls, and is so happy. Everyone in the restaurant had to stop by and say hello to her and she loved it. It was a nice day for all of us.
-
Hi All,
Been trying to keep up but have fallen horribly behind... Rather than respond to some and risk leaving anyone out, I'm just going to say I hope everyone is doing well!
Just an update... I did get the call today with my Mammo/US results.... Looks like after all the drama of the retakes of the US images the day of, it's a BIRADS 2..... So... normal!!!!! I am happy with the results but, still feel a bit uneasy given the unexpected retakes... They are sending me a copy of the report and I know I will feel better when I see the actual wording in the report...
Till then... I'll take it!! -
Oh... Just couldn't leave without a reponse to the potty training discussion.... In my experience my son was faaaaar tougher than my daughter.... She was good to go (literally) when she was 3.... My son was still doing the pullups at night at 4 1/2 but, I just couldn't handle those night time sheet changes.... The time frame when he finally 'got it' ranks up there with one of life's best moments....lol
Of course he first learned to pee sitting down so the next obstacle was how to introduce the 'standing and aiming' aspect to what was already, apparently, a difficult concept..... Enter the 'Sink the Cheerios' game...... About the time you think your son may need to 'go', you float a handful of Cheerios in the pot and they get to try to sink them while going pee.... Appealed to his sense of competition and worked like a charm.....lol
PS...... We all worry about our kids not bring potty trained, giving up pacifiers/bottles (my daughter was 6 before she quit her pacifier at night but, yet she has beautiful teeth) etc in the 'prescribed' time frame but, when it's all said and done it all turns out fine!!! Have yet to meet a child who left for
college with a pacifier or wearing pullups.....
When done well, being a parent is the hardest job there is!!! There are no guarantees! All you can do is show up every day and give it the best you can!! -
Thanks Debbie.
-
I have every report, doctors comments all surgery comments, everything since March 27th 2007. Three 3 ring binder filled with every report from every test.
-
Deborye,
Since my diagnosis, I also have requested a copy of each and every test/procedure report.... Something that I never knew you could do before BC.... Some people keep their scrapbooks in 3-ring binders... I keep my medical records in one..... lol -
I have a big binder of all kinds of test anId surgical reports, too. The surgical reports make for interesting reading. You can get those from the hospital medical records office.
Seaside - I got a CD of my mammogram and was able to "see" what they saw on my own computer. Same with my PET scans. It's not that hard to figure out what you're looking at, and maybe it will bring you some comfort if you see it on your own terms.
We went to a new restaurant tonight and had a lovely dinner - DH had braised boneless short ribs and I had duck two ways - breast and confit. I am now a fan of confit, need to learn how to do that. And we drank French Bordeaux wine - practicing for Paris!!!
-
Seaside- Great news!!!! I am so happy you got wonderful results and can breathe a sigh of relief. Love your perspective on kids. I remind myself of that all the time when I think I am failing with the potty or pacifiers etc. It feels like such a big deal- but it's not.
Michelle- Love all your plans for Paris! When do you leave again?
Deb- My husband makes a wonderful chili, I'll ask him how he does it. Though I don't know if he does it the same way twice. His has a light kick to it but not spicy and has a sweet taste too. I know the secret to that is a can of baked beans.
Carrie- Have fun at the graduation! Congrats to you!!
Lacey- Love your story about your grand daughter. Glad you had a great day.
Last night was lasagna tonight was Debbie's Belgian chicken. Both were really good. We need to take a vacation from drama at our house. The new thing is DS#2 at 2 1/2 is starting to stutter. I was ok with it, started about a week and a half ago and has been getting worse. Tonight he actually asked me, why can't I talk? Broke my heart. I am thinking it is a phase but will call the Dr on Monday since it is upsetting him.
Seriously. I need to go to an island and sip cocktails, read and sleep. But hey, don't we all?
-
Lunch today was leftovers that I brought home from the Senior Center from the yesterday. I had made Hot and Sour Soup and pork fried rice. Yum! For supper it was what seems to be a bit of a favorite around here---popcorn.
-
Laurie, I do hope you can do something for yourself to relax this weekend....and whether you do or not, please DO NOT WORRY about the stuttering. It IS developmental with this age group...kids at that age have thoughts to express way faster than their language ability can accommodate, so they stutter for a while. I'll bet there must be an article on the web about this and what to do....usually nothing! It usually resolves on its own, especially if not given a lot of attention. You may need to be sure DS1 does not call attention to it. When they ask about it, you might just normalize it for him..."You just have so many great things to say that your words are having a hard time getting everything out. As you get a little bit older, your words will work faster for you, so just take as much time as you need so your words won't feel too rushed". Seriously, don't spend any time worrying about his....it's pretty common. I recall consulting with the head of speech/language pathology at a nearby hospital many years ago for our DS2, and he was not at all concerned. Wish I could remember how long it took for his normal speech pattern to return.....but it did! It is alarming tho, I know.
Veggie pizza tonight.....and then was off to the couch to watch the Celts and rest since I came home from work with a whopping sore throat and headache. Darn! Planned to clothes shop tomorrow. Oh well..... -
Seaside: Congrats on your clear report! What a relief I'm sure. I go for my first diagnostic mammo since surgery next week and although I've had a clear thermography, I'm still a little concerned as to what will show up. I didn't do rads, so have to be extra cautious.
Up early today to take BF to his golf tournament so I can have the car. Sometimes this gets to be a PITA but we're trying to conserve on gas and not buy two cars. The second car is in NC...couldn't do without it there!
-
Oops..hit the submit button too soon! Laurie: I remember two of my cousins had a problem with stuttering...one had to see a speech therapist for about six months, but there is no sign today that he ever had a problem. The other cousin..the younger one..resolved on his own. My DGS also had this problem at about the same age as your DS and he is fine now. I think they are so anxious to talk and the words come out too fast. Also, he's the second child and might be competing with the first to get a word in edgewise...this was the case with my cousin...his older sister was quite a talker and he had difficulty keeping up with her:) My BF's oldest son had a problem as well which has long since resolved itself. This is quite common in little children, so try not to worry. Easy for me to say!
-
Luv, confit is one of the bestest things ever. The duck is slowly boiled in duck fat and preserved that way. It is a very oldfashioned, slow-cooking method.
-
cute child / restaurant story:
My first son was a small 18 month old.. the right size just not overbig... he looked pretty tiny at the time tho. We got together with extended family to eat at (tada!) Chile's. Son #1 was latched onto the table in a baby seat. About 1/2 thru the meal he turned around to the table across from us and quite loudly said.. "Will you pass the flour tortillas?" He was really articulate. I swear the whole section of the restaurant heard it.. everyone was laughing so hard. They took up a collection and sent him (Owen) almost enough money to pay for our lunch.. but we put it in the bank for me... whooops,, him. His hair was white and stood straight up.
-
apple: What a cute story...kids can be so candid, and they can really surprise you. My DGD (3 at the time) was asked what she would like to drink once and she replied "I'll have a Perrier with lime please"....the waiter almost fell over laughing! Gotta love em!
-
Seaside, so happy for you that your report is good! Michelle you're next to get good news as the
east coast cloud evaporates.
Laurie, these sites might be useful about the stuttering concern. It looks like EI sometimes assesses kids for this these days, so your peds could refer you if at all concerned. I'd bet not! Good luck!

Had planned a rare clothes shopping trip for today, but this raging sore throat and headache has me settled in under a comforter. Hoping the salt water gargling and chicken soup helps it pass....wasted weekend....darn! -
Laurie- My GD also stuttered when she was about 3 it didnt last long though. I know how upsetting this is for you to see DS so upset, hope as everyone said its just a phase and he will out grow it.
Lacey- Hope you feel better.
Seaside- Yay on the clear results.
Apple and Kaara- Cute stories about your kids. Kids say and do the cutest things. When my DD was about 4 she was taking a nap with me (or so i thought) When i woke up she was on the kitchen counter with a whole bag of flour over her head, you could only see her eyes, there was flour everywhere, i wanted to be mad but she looked so cute and funny, I said, Linda what did you do? She said,. Look what the fairy god mother did to me mommy! I couldnt be mad at that LOL!
I went to the casino again last night, won about 400 dollars but put half back in, still came home with about 200 dollars. But im casino'd out now. Got my fix, so will be staying home until DH gets back.
Im watching the Kentucky derby right now. I love all the hats and dresses. When we lived in Ky everytime we had free tickets to go watch either DH or I got sick never got to go. Not sure who i want to win yet.
