Carole, just came across this recipe/video for raw kale and avacado salad. She explains how the dressing "cooks" the leaves so they are not tough. I find that when I cut the kale leaves into narrow strips and dress it, the toughness is not a factor at all....but everyone's sensory systems are unique, and it may be bothersome to some and not to others. Actually none of the kale salad recipes I have gotten online suggest to blanch the kale first. The woman in this video clearly loves to play with her food! :)

Personally, I'm not in to puree'd fruits and veggies, and prefer more crunch/texture in my food.  So I would never spend that kind of money on a juicer/blender.  I hardly use a regular blender, to be honest.  I use the little stick/immersion blender for a few simple blending chores or to make an occasional fruit smoothie with yogurt and berries.

I made the apple pancake batter and saute the apples then just did a little small amount in a muffin tin and put the batter and apples in the fridge so it will be ready to bake tomorrow but this is so good i cant wait to make it again tomorrow. The applewood bacon has an awesome taste too. And i used my stick blender for the first time since i bought it over a year ago yeah me! it was so easy cant belive i havnt used it before for soups ect

Lacey- Hope you get your energy back up and maybe like michelle said you just need some iron. Hope you feel better soon.

. I wouldn't spend that much money on a vitamix either but if you use all the gadgets and get your moneys worth than its probably worth it.

I think you ladies may have just saved me a wad of cash. I'm embarrassed to admit that I do have a stick blender, and have used it once in a year. Maybe I should try to use that more before deciding on the other "major" appliance. I do like the idea of putting kale in a blender (my current old one would not do the trick) with fruit and having it be tasty as well as healthy.

On the other end of the spectrum.....that pancake breakfast sounds sooooooo good....sure beats the matzoh ball soup I am making from a package.... purely because I never have and know DH will appreciate it. Of course I am busy putting all sorts of veggies in the broth since it looks boring to me.I guess it will be matzoh ball soup plus.

The soup turned out fine...tho would never be my favorite. DH enjoyed it...and we ended up making it a deli night by getting cold cuts and cole slaw and making sandwiches to go with the soup and Apple's marinated cauliflower salad. DH likes strong flavors so really enjoyed that as did I.

Lacey:  I have the Vita Mix Blender, the 5200 Series and it is great.  I think I paid about $449 for it, and it comes with a 64 oz container and a nice cookbook with tons of recipes.  It's one of the best investments we've made and it immeidately replaced our juicer which was large and difficult to use and clean.  I can also make blended hot soups in it.  It will make enough smoothies to last a couple of days for two people.  It will pulverize anything..peels and all.

I cooked the Oysters Mosca tonight and it was as good as I hoped.  We also had a big garden salad with romaine, tomato, cucumber, yellow bell pepper, avocado.  Sweet onion in DH's salad and a few Greek olives in mine.  Slices of freshly baked Tuscan brown bread.  I'm getting better at the bread baking with some practice.  I really like eating bread that I made myself with no mystery ingredients!

Today I cleaned my porch and patio and fountain and planted more herbs in some of the planters and also planted lettuce and arugula in a couple of the planters.  In April I begin another membership in a CSA that will go for 12 weeks.

As for juicing, I would rather eat the fruit and veggies than drink a liquid.  I like the texture along with the taste.

    But yours is probably better.

I'm making your pea soup for sure tomorrow.  I have all the ingrediants.  I bet it will be really good!

My daughter will go into the hospital Monday.  She has been staying  with me or her BF until then.  Please think good thoughts for her, or hold her in the light or say a prayer.

Sally- Your daughter is in my prayers, hope she is ok! Please let us know. Its actually applewood bacon and it is delicious, havnt watched the video yet will after i post this. Hope you enjoy the soup!

Carol- Sounds like you had a busy day! I got busy too since DH works til midnight on saturdays i decided to get get busy but instead of planting i ended up throwing 2 plants away there time has come and gone. I vacummed all the rooms cleaned the bathrooms mopped and did the inside windows. It rained so hard today and was windy that the rain was sideways hitting the windows so i dont have to clean the outside windows for awhile so i guess it came it handy. Im with you on the veggies i would rather eat than drink them although i know the benefits are better blended.

bedo:  Saying prayers for your daughter!

I've managed to get out of cooking all weekend...italian Friday nite and mexican last night after the movie.  BTW...don't bother to see Hunger Games...I read the book and thought I would like to see the movie since it was filmed on location near our summer home, but the movie wasn't that good.

That dog video is a riot..... had seen it before and forgot how funny/clever it was.

Apple, interesting idea about the molasses.....hope today is starting out better.

Good morning!!!  We are lazy this morning, I actually slept in until 8:45 and DH is still snoozing at 9:30.

Bedo - sending healing thoughts to your daughter and you.

Kaara - I read the book and have been debating about the movie.  I hear there's a lot of footage done with the hand camera effect, so the screen is jumpy.  Not sure I want to see that on the big screen.  I might just wait for it to come to video.  I have been debating whether or not to read the next two books.  I found the first one disturbing, and I am surprised that the intended audience is young adults.

I don't always cook much on the weekends, either.  I did make the Apple Tarte Tatin from The Chew last night.  I really liked it, but my caramel got a little overcooked even though I closely followed the recipe.  My stovetop's medium heat must be higher than others.   I substituted Splenda for 2/3 of the sugar but that shouldn't have caused a problem.  I'd make it again and leave it on the burner for half the time, which should also preserve a little more of the texture of the apples.

Michelle, thanks for your "book review". You are the only person I know of who suggested that it felt disturbing, which is what I would expect....thus I have yet to pick it up. Maybe it's not fair for me to have this opinion since I have not read the book (but got a detailed summary from a co-worker who loved it) nor seen the movie, but I keep hearing about our 5th graders being taken to see it, and am horrified, given the theme. So young adults would be one thing........

That Apple Tarte Tatin sounds like fun to try.

DH and I are heading into town to meet up with DS2, to go to lunch and the Celtics/Heat game. I may be pushing protein and molasses to get through the day, which I've really been looking forward to.

Michelle:  Please don't waste your time with the other two books...I thought they were boring and more of the same.  Not at all what I had expected and I couldn't wait to be done with them.  It is definitely a Netflix movie, and yes, now that you mention it, there was a lot of jumping around with the camera in certain scenes.  The young kids love it...I heard girls in the restroom saying they had already seen it three times...ugh!  I almost fell asleep, and my boyfriend was twisting in his seat which means he doesn't like what he is seeing:(  That means he gets to pick the next movie, so I'll have to see something that will be pure adrenalin from start to finish!  He's funny...pretended not to like the Twilight movies, but wanted to know when the next one was coming out..hehe!

    Prayers to your daughter Sally.

Lacey hope you have a great day out with your family.

My daughter also said she did not like the hunger games movie...she said the books were way better.

Debbie  that breakfast sounds super good.  Pncakes always look and smell great to me, but then I can only eat like 2 bites and I remember that I dont really like them.  I do love french toast though, and of course bacon is always a hit.

Gonna be lazy today and chill with my daughter before she heads back to the city :(

luvRVing.. i thought of you on my country drive.  redbuds are indigenous to this area and i came across practically a whole forest of them in bloom ..hundreds of trees.

i made an awesome pasta with wide egg noodles which my husband loves for dinner.. i certainly could do without that type of noodle (except for beef stroganoff), italian sausage, feta, whole canned tomatoes, red pepper, garlic, onion and lots of fresh garden herbs.. i ate two bites but it was a hit with the family.. also overdone microwaved cauliflower..which the fam also  loved.  i like a bit of crunch and bite. also bread and butter.. i thought that sounded good but the super bakery bread was very very white.  oh well...

i had some ice cream.which i've really never eaten in my life till these last few weeks when i am very appetite challenged. ,   My mom loved ice cream  and ate it every day of her life once she was out of the convent and married.  my first job was at Baskins and Robbins and i swear i didn't eat ice cream for almost 30 years..  it tastes really good lately.  cool, creamy.. yum.

in the sixties,  i had those white cookies in the big big package and the  boys all chose the hydrox.   (i am the oldest of five boys and four girls).    We had dessert every day.. 2 cookies or ice cream, except for Lent and Advent.. a Catholic thing.

I think i will look for a Baskins and Robbins and get some pistachio almond.. it's kind of light green.. i really loved that.

Congrats on the five years deborey! Wonderful!

Carole, I used to be a huge harlequin romance reader. I am pretty sure I have read several of your books. Your psuedonym sounds really familiar. So cool!

Laurie, I agree with everyone else, you are a wonderful mother! Do not feel guilty about the dentist. I think cavities also has something to do with the bacteria in your mouth. I think some people are more prone to foster bacteria that causes cavities. I only in the last year overcame my fear of dentists. I had some pretty horrible experiences when I was young.

We are in Williamsburg for spring break with my DD and niece, having a great time. Tomorrow we're off to Busch gardens, was exploring colonial Williamsburg today. Went to an Indian restaurant for dinner tonight. I am not a huge fan of Indian food, but I enjoyed it. I do love nan, and I like spices. It's surprising I am not more of an Indian food person.

Bedo, prayers for your daughter. Please left us know how she is.

debbie - my mom was raised in an orphanage by nuns .. she naturally chose a religious life.. it is very 'her' but thankfully never took her final vows.  Actually she met my dad the day she left the convent.. her sister set them up.

i love apple pancakes.. i'll have to back and look at the recipe i used to melt butter, melt brown sugar, add apple slices.. pour some batter in, flip it maybe and finish it the oven.  i use to eat it  all the time (the whole darn pan practically) in my cycling days.. man i need a ton of calories.
