    Oh Debbie... I am so sorry for your loss. It is never easy to lose someone but, when they are so young and, given the circumstances, I'm sure it is doubly hard.... My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family... Hugs....

    Michelle- Oh im so sorry Michelle. I know this is a touchy topic so wasnt sure if i should even post it but i do know how you feel, i lost my sister this way also, you just never get over it.

    Sooo on to food... My green beans were so good i couldnt stop eating them. The kale was so much softer raw when letting the dressing sit on it for a few hours and very good, i still like my baked kale chips though.

    debbie:  What kind of dressing did you use on the kale?  I would like to try that...I get tired of the usual green salads all the time.

    I already made an appt for July for the 3 month pap do over.  They say don't be concerned,  I told her I wanted a copy of all test results, they will mail them to me shortly.

    Kaara- I usually make my own dressing with evoo, balsamic vinegar, a little dijon and garlic but didnt feel like making it so used a store bought, kens dressing and marinade its a very good dressing but prefer my own. Thought the kale tasted a bit more like parsley this way. but very tasty, and will be good  added to salad greens after it has sat in the dressing first.

    Debbie,  I too am very sorry for your loss.  I lost a brother to suicide.  It about killed me at the time.. i became an alcoholic (thankfully for a very short time)  .. I just loved him so much and tried so hard to make his illness (schizophrenia) bearable for him..

    suicide is really difficult.  hope you all are all able to come to peace.

    Apple, I am so sorry. My brother also has scizophrenia and we have come close to losing him many times. It is a horrible disease, worse even than BC in my opinion.

    Apple- Im so sorry for your loss too, Wow, i guess this has touched more of us than i knew. I loved my sister with all my heart, my other sister and i cry over her every time we talk.

    Momie- Yes it is terrible. i have never blamed or got mad at my sister i just couldnt go there its an illness and i belive theres such a pain deep down that only they know and feel. 

    I never talk about this not even to my close friends....

    Debbie  so sorry for your loss, it must be especially difficult being so far away.  It does sound like a lot of people here have had their share of pain from similar situations. You just dont know how anyone is feeling on the inside, lets hope they are in a better place now.

    Last night I took all the veges I could find in the fridge, onion, peppers, zucchini, asparagas, mushrooms, and a can of whole tomatos and sauteed and then threw in some spinach linquini...oh yeah and lots of garlic  Was very good and cleaned out my vegetable bin.

    Mowed the lawn yesterday, 3 hr job, was wiped out. Need to get my energy back after that last surgery!

    Wow, huge hugs to everyone.  It saddens me that so many of you ladies have lost someone.  We really are a group of strong and resilient women.

    Last night was fried chicken, baked potatoes and corn on the cob.  The corn was from Florida and was actually very good.  We were pleasantly surprised.

    My father committed suicide when I was twelve.  My little sister was only one year old.  It was the first real traumatic event in my life and changed me forever.  I felt totally abandoned by him, as if he had left us while still alive.  It drove my mother into alcoholism, as she somehow felt responsible.

     The family tried to keep it from me, because he did this while in Las Vegas helping my grandparents run their motel, but I overheard them talking about it.  I didn't tell anyone I knew until I was sixteen.  I probably should have received therapy but just sorted it out on my own over the years.  I used to lie about how he died, but now I just tell the truth. Suicide is a a very selfish thing to do IMO, but then unless you are in that person's shoes, you can't really know what their motives are.  He was a wonderful loving father to me...I never remember him speaking a harsh word to anyone.  Those are the things I try to remember about him.

    sorryfor everyone's losses.

    tomorrow i am making the absolutely delicious, decadent thai food called mee krob.

    just google  MEE KROB RECIPE.   we used to serve it at a restaurant i managed.  People often sent it back and i would get to eat it... yum.. No restaurant in KC serves it so i am making it myself.  Don't have to cook Friday but am serving Easter dinner to 20 on Sunday.. people will bring side dishes.

    My father's brother committed suicide and my father never got over feeling guilty that he hadn't realized my uncle was in such a deep state of depression.  Suicide IS horribly selfish.  My uncle shot himself out in their detached garage and my aunt came home from a dr's apptment and discovered him.  My uncle was in a lot of pain from spinal problems, plus he felt totally useless because  he could no longer work and support his family.  Both my girl cousins were permanently affected by their father's death.

     On a happier note, I cooked quinoa for the first time today.  Here's the recipe Quinoa Salad w/Chicken and Asparagus.

    1 cup quinoa cooked in low-sodium chicken broth.  Allow to cool.

    8 oz asparagus tips (steamed and then cooled; I put chipped ice on them)

    7 oz jar roasted pepper, drained and chopped

    2 cups cooked chicken, diced (I used cooked turkey)

    juice of 1 lemon

    2 tsp olive oil (I used 1 T)

    Combne all ingredients except lemon juice and olive oil.  Whisk the oil and juice together and add to salad.  Chill and serve.

    I tasted the salad before putting it in the refrigerator and it tasted really good.  The quinoa has a nutty flavor. 

    I also got out the food processor and made the rest of the leftover turkey into turkey salad.  Added celery, dill relish, mayo, a little yellow mustard, and lemon juice.

    So presently our fridge contains a big bowl of turkey noodle soup, quinoa salad with turkey and turkey salad!  A variety of turkey for everyone's taste.  I don't know why I get the notion to buy turkeys and put them in the freezer around Thanksgiving time.  I have one more left in there.

    wow Apple- 20 for Easter?!  I hope you all have a wonderful time, glad everyone is bringing sides, thats a lot of work!

    Tonight I am making a ham and cheese and rice.  We go to my in laws for Easter and my FIL does not like ham so they make a turkey.  But I love all the leftovers from making a ham and the dinner its self is yummy so I bought one on sale. Going to go get it in the oven now.

    quinona- I looked in the grocery store for it last week, is it with the rices?  I couldn't find it?

    Laurie- At my store it is in the isle with the rices and noodles but in a area with specialty items in a box. If you cant find it i would ask a clerk or manager if they have it, it is used quite commonly these days and most supermarkets carry it.

    Apple- The dish sounds good, i googled it and it sounds like it takes awhile to make but if its as good as it sounds would be worth it.  Wow, if i had 20 people coming for dinner to my house i would be cooking now! lol! Sounds like you will have a great time.

    Carol- Your quinoa recipes sounds delish.

    Carry- Glad your getting your energy back, mowing the lawn takes a lot out of you!

    I had to cancerl my dentist appointment today, it is 45 minute drive and we are having golf ball sze hail with thunder storms and lightining, im not sure which is scarier the dentist or the weather LOL!

    I found my quinoa in the health food section of the grocery store...with the gluten free items.  You have to really look for it.

    Carole...that salad sounds excellent.  I have a bag of quonia so I'll give it a try.  Sounds good for this hot weather!

    Apple..20 for dinner sounds challenging...you must be feeling a lot better..that's good!  I love thai food so I will google that recipe.

    Laurie - look for quinoa in the area with the dried beans, barley, etc if it's not in the rice section.

    Dinner was soooo good and I am FULL. I made a salad to go with it and it all just hit the spot. Love it when that happens.

    I made chicken stirfly and sweet potatoes with black beans for side dish. Al little asian with a mexican flair lol! Tonight im indulging and having a hot fudge sundae, i dont have one too often but been craving one with lots and lots of hot fudge !!!

    Hi all - I've been reading about all your meals and recipes for months and I finally have a meal/story worthy of this discussion! My MIL (also a BC survivor) had told me that her mother used to fix her favorite meal every time she came home from college. It was pork chops, twice baked potatoes, lima beans and Honeycomb pudding for dessert. Yesterday was her 84th birthday so we had her over for dinner and served bacon-wrapped pork ribeyes with a chimichurri sauce, twice baked potatoes and lima beans. She was quite surprised and touched! I did not attempt the Honeycomb pudding because it takes forever to make so we had birthday cake instead.

    Gina- welcome!!  That is a great story thank you so much for sharing!  Never feel that your recipes or stories have to be "worthy"  just jump right in and join us:)  Our dinners range from yogurt to filet's.  It's all good with this group of ladies!

    Hugs to all of you who shared your painful family histories. Makes me think of the strength you all possess. I also love the constant juxtaposition of life pain and life sustenance in this wonderful forum.



    Again, look what you started, Laurie!! And it is wonderful that you so loved your dinner tonight.



    I had a serendipity at home tonight when I rolled in from a long and complicated day. DH had gone to the store, bought and grilled some very tasty marinated (by him) chicken breasts, grilled asparagus and french bread (his weakness). All I had to do was make a quickie cucumber salad. We both loved it! I made every effort to reinforce his wonderful culinary efforts!! More! More! :)



    Laurie hope you find the quinoa...it is pretty mainstream these days. Are you near a Trader Joe's? They have two kinds.
