Laurie- What a cute story about snuggling with your boys, just melted my heart!!
Carrie- would love a 65% weather right now its so cold here.
Joyce-Thanks for the update on Michelle. What a pain in the arse these stupid ins companys put us through i think they fiqure you wont fight it and pay that extra money so glad you got that part taken care of though.
Our power has been out all day, cable and phone were out too, when it finaly came on i checked my phone and although it didnt show anyone called my phone was beeping saying i had messages it was from the hospital i called and they said they finally got the approval (she thinks it will be fine) So tomorrow we drive to portland and wednesday he has gamma knife- I hate driving in crazy traffic so coming back i will have to drive not looking forward to that at all. But glad we finally got this fiqured out!
Its snowing off and on, with thunder too how weird is that? Hope the weather clears up for tomorrow.
-
Debbie, crazy weather patterns, eh? Sorry you are getting the butt end if it. It's over 70 degrees here and the sidewalks are crawling with grateful walkers.
Laurie, I'll bet the boys are thrilled with this weather....your day-end ritual sounds so sweet.
Have been cooking a lot to distract myself from our very empty feeling house...discovered how much harder it is to say goodbye to a loved family pet when the kids are moved out. Terrible! You totally do not realize how extremely woven they are into your life routine, so everything you do brings up the absence, again and again. Wish I could be a colder hearted person!!
Anyway, thought I could post a pic of last night's shrimp stir fry with lots of veggies and cilantro over cappelini.....but it won't paste. Grrrrr
So, I'm off to start some salsa cod for tonight....most likely no pic of that either! Will have some refried beans on the side.
Kaara, glad the pain has subsided and that you were able to cope with the procedure. -
Ok Lacey, just rub it in on the weather LOL! Im glad you are having beautiful weather the sun just started peeking through the clouds may warm up to 35 today, yippee! I hope the days get easier for you (((((hugs)))))
Making pork chops and cauliflower for dinner tonight, i roast the heads with lots of garlic and right before i pull them out i top with parmesan cheese and some evoo!
-
debbie 6122: So glad you got that insurance mess straightened out and DH can get the kind of surgery he needs. What a runaround they give us...but always glad to take our premiums! Your dinner sounds great!
Laurie: Enjoy those little ones...they grow up so fast! My little ones are now my GC and GGC! I love them just as much if not more..they are so special. DGD was over on Sunday and it was just a joy to watch her antics. She learns something new every day.
Friends called and invited us out to dinner tonight..yea! I made a nice vegetable soup for lunch with a salad, so I don't feel too guilty:)
-
Kaara- I have 2 grand-daughters and your right you love them just as much, i do things for them that i wished i would of done for my daughter. Enjoy your dinner out to night its always nice when you dont have to cook and let some one else do it for you.
Joyce- I bet your DH will be so glad to see you after such a hard week! hugs to you both.
I dont know if i mentioned that my husband is a food and beverae director at a casino, they fired about 5 directors in the last 3 months and last month they fired the General manager too, they brought in this new guys who is such a big D..K who no one likes, he has been nit picking chuck all week and today gave him a really hard time, he feels his job is now in jeopady, just what he needs to worry about with everything else that is going on he even knows about chucks tumor and acts like he dont care, i told DH well, we cant worry about that right now, lets jsut get through this and i told him we have been through hard times before and no matter what we will get through it again. But this just makes me so angry at this new GM for coming to him today knowing he is having surgery on Thursday, what a big, big jerk, its just so upsetting. Especially since he is 57 years old it is so hard to get jobs now, they are usually only hireing young guys these days. Could use your prayers again on this. thanks! Sorry to be such a Debbie Downer lately LOL!
-
Debbie,
Thank goodness the insurance company approved the surgery even though they put you through the ringer to get to this point!!
You and Chuck will be in my thoughts and prayers both for the surgery and for his job... Joyce is right.. Just what the hell is wrong with people these days that they just don't seem to care about anything but themselves... Seems especially prevelant with the younger crowd!!
The two of you need to just focus now on getting through the next few days... You'll deal with the rest of it later.....
Sending you the hug I wish I could give you in person!
PS.... Do you want me to come there and kick that GM's @ss for you?? I've been working out and think I may just be able to..... lol
PPS... As for the weather... It has been wonderful in the NE but, if it goes like it usually does, we'll be seeing what you are having now within the next few days! -
Hi everyone! Just got home about 45 minutes ago and it feels so good to sit in my recliner! I guarantee you my bed will feel really, really good, too!!!
Debbie - I second everyone's comments about Chuck and the insurance issue. So glad it's straightened out and he can get the best treatment available.
Laurie - I just read your comment about snuggling in bed with your boys and watching cartoons...I just love how you describe your special times with your family!
Everyone else - I'll read and catch up soon. Has Hauntie been around? I might need to try and contact her about Pickity Place.
-
Joyce, S glad for you both that DH is on his way home. Poor guy....what a painful trip.
Debbie, I am horrified at the crass insensitivity of your DH's boss. Seems like downright harassment to me. Your advice to him makes perfect sense. Right now you need to take care of his operation and that is that. You'll both be in my thoughts over the next few days. Best of luck!
Michelle, welcome back......Enjoy your recliner and comfy bed! -
Debbie: One thing for sure....that GM had better not fire your DH while he is out on sick leave at his age or you will have a major lawsuit against the casino. Unless the laws are different there, your DH is considered in a protected class of workers at his age, and having health issues as well makes him doubly protected. I know that's the last thing you want to think about right now, and the GM sounds like a real jerk, but he better check with his human resources department or he will be the one getting the axe! Tell DH to just ignore the harrassment and keep doing his job as well as he always does.
Sending you prayers and positive energy!
-
Deborye,
That Guiness Stew sounds so good!! Copied it and will definitely try it soon... Plus, DH will be happy because he gets to finish the remaining Guiness!
Michelle,
Glad you made it back! Get your rest then, can't wait to hear about your trip!!
Kaara,
Glad to hear that the procedure wasn't too bad... Although it does sound uncomfortable.... Glad to
hear that you are feeling better....
Laurie,
Sounds like you take the time everyday to appreciate those little guys.... That is a really good thing! The time passes so quickly and before you know it they are grown!
Tonight I made Halupki (aka stuffed cabbage)... Don't know what I was thinking because it took all afternoon and it was just gorgeous outside!! I did get the windows open and that fresh air was wonderful..... aaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh! -
What happened to spring? Our weather has headed straight into summer. Low 80's today and rest of the week. Played golf today and got wet to the skin with perspiration.
Dinner tonight was chicken breast pounded thin and cooked in the toaster oven. Baked with delicious bottled sauce (Sal & Judy's Heart Healthy) spooned on top and then topped with mozzarella and parm-reg cheese. Chopped salad and steamed veggies in a bag.
-
My door mat.
-
Just kidding.
March 24th Joyce, be there or be square. LOL
12:45 seating.
Sally, be at my house around 11 and we will leave right away. www.pickityplace.com
-
Michelle- Glad you are back home and safe, i bet your bed is going to feel so good.
Thanks everyone, you are right we just need to focus on him getting better.
Seaside- LOL your too funny!
I having seen hauntie around lately michelle i had asked about her some time ago and still havnt seen her
hmm where could she be???
-
Laurie- Do you know when the Big C starts again? You got me hooked on it and have been watching for it to return again.
-
Laurie, what is the Big C? Is it one of those greatly addictive series like MadMen and Breaking Bad, or The Killing? MM starts up again soon. Anyway, curious....
Have a good day! -
Debbie Boy when it rains it pours...they should be so lucky that your husband has been working during all this, given his symptoms, dont know how he makes it through the day! Thinking of you! and I am with seaside,,I think in large numbers we could definitely kick his A#$$!
Michelle Glad you are back safely....you know you had a good time when you have to rest from your vacation. He He
Last night was barbecued chicken leg quarters, with a good mesquite barbecue sauce, side of pasta salad and corn. Strawberry shortcake for dessert... the berries were buy1/get 1 not great but good enough.
Tonight is hump night YAY going to a mexian restaurant with huge margaritas
Oh yeah just wanted to add to remind you gals.....there better be pictures of pickety place....just saying.
-
Yes, ditto what Carrie said...take pictures of the lunch so the rest of us can enjoy it too! Wish I could join you, but that would be a verrrrry long drive from Fl!
-
Debbie, I agree with Kaara about the lawsuit business. There is also a thing called a Hostile Work Environment. Not sure how it works, but I think if your husband wants to quit, he can for reason and still get unemployment, not that he wants to quit. I don't know what the new GM is thinking. It sounds like he is a D..k Head. I will be thinking of you and your husband tomorrow.
I made a very easy cold black bean soup for dinner. 3 cans of black beans, some chopped onion, garlic, salt, and enough vegetarian (can be chicken) borth to make it smooth blended in the blender.with some tobasco sauce. Topped with sour cream (or plain yogurt) and cilantro if desired.
-
Debbie- that is such crap what is going on at your DH's job. This is the last thing he needs to be thinking about. It amazes me how heartless people can be. The Big C starts again on April 8th, yay!
Lacey- The Big C is on showtime and is going into it's third season. It's about a woman who is diagnosed with stage IV melanoma. I've been told the series each year will address one of the stages of grief, fear, acceptance, anger, denial etc. It is pretty funny and very heart wrenching at times as well. I really like it! It's on on demand with my cable company, it was for Debbie too. So you can go back and watch the first two seasons to catch up. The shows are only a half hour long, so it goes quickly.
The boys are at my in laws for the morning so I have been grocery shopping and am about to vacuum and wash the floors. Bleck!!!! But it needs to be done so--here I go.
Have a great day ladies!
-
Debbie,
Thinking of you and sending up prayers that the surgery is a spectacular success tomorrow!!! Saw the weather channel this morning and it sounds like the weather is still nasty out your way... Travel safely!
Laurie,.
Many moons ago, you posted a recipe that a friend that you went camping with made with zucchini spears and ground beef. I wanted to make it and did find where you you posted it but, when you say to pour a jar of tomato sauce over it do you mean tomato sauce or spaghetti sauce... Also any idea how much? -
Seaside- You brown a pound of burger and add enough spaghetti sauce to make it into a meat sauce, sorry I have no specifics, it's to the taste. Cut zucchini into pickle type spears and lay in bottom of pyrex dish, top with burger mixture and cook at 350 for about 20 minutes, top with shredded cheddar cheese and cook till melted. Serve one white rice.
I hope I saw your post in time for dinner!
Chicken cor don bleu and sauce tonight with rice and zucchini.
-
Thanks Laurie!!
That sounds perfect and I have everything!! -
We were supposed to cook steaks on the grill tonight but I think the gloomy 41 degree temp will force us to postpone grilling until tomorrow when maybe the sun will come back out and warm us up. I think there will be tacos for supper tonight.
Debbie - sending positive thoughts to you and Chuck.
And I am sure we'll take pictures at Pickity Place! Looking forward to seeing everyone!
-
Debbie: Sending prayers and positive healing energy to your and DH!
-
Wow - missed one night & hard to catch up. I'm with Seaside in volunteering to teach Debbie's DH's boss a lesson. Debbie - hope all goes well w/surgery tomorrow. Deborye - love the doormat.
Had a wonderful trip to Penzey's this afternoon - freeze dried shallots, crystalized ginger, Madagascar vanilla in addition to the regular garlic, etc. Dinner is pork roast & three bean salad.
-
I checked in the member list since we've all been missing Hauntie. Her last post was 2/17 on this thread shortly after her arthroscopic surgery. Hope she is OK.
-
MinusTwo,
That is concerning that Hauntie hasn't posted anywhere in almost a month.... Sometimes people just need a break so I hope that is the case for Hauntie... -
I never met Hauntie, but I hope that she is OK
Beer. Beer was for dinner tonight. I have finally been driven over the edge. It's my work computer that never works, not my home one and it makes it impossible to do my job and stresses me out because I am supposed to do my job and document online! I've finally decided that if they want to pay me what they do to talk to technical support everyday and drive around, ( I make visits to places sometimes an hour away from each other) hey, that's not a bad job, and certainly easier than the one they hired me for! And as for putting in a schedule and accounting for what I do every day, (another silly thing I have to do,) I will just put it "Spoke to technical support for 3 hours! Put in notes, computer crashed, they are gone! wrote paper notes 3 hours! Explained why notes weren't in computer (after multiple text messages from corporate), one hour! Drove to scheduled appt 2 hours! Gas, please reemburse for 90 miles!
Deb, take that mat out before I come or I may leave! See you all in NH
PS beer is really easy to prepare.
-
Bedo- YAY BEER!!!! I hope it helped. When I have rough days I call on my friend....wine
Hope you're feeling more relaxed now, and I would put that in there- computers were crashed!!! You make me happy I became an at home mom. I will try to remember you and the corporate BS tomorrow when I hear my name 500 times before 8 am...mom, mommy, ma, mommy, mum, ma, mom,MOM! And be thankful I can say back....shhhhhh! LOL!
