((((((Pat)))))) and (((((Lacey)))))) I am so very sorry, it gives me what my folks always called a heavy heart.  The weight of sadness.  A big hug to you and your dogie.  Again, makes me think of my old spaniel, so hard when there is so much love.

Oh Lacey.... my heart just breaks for you... We had to make that decision with our Akita... She was just 8 years old and came down with an on again, off again limp of her front leg... We thought perhaps she had torn a ligament but, xrays showed it was a very extensive osteo-sarcoma of her femur... We took her home and loved her for another 3 weeks before it became clear that, despite the meds, she was in pain... She was truly my furbaby and helped me through some really tough times... I miss her everyday but, I also know that she had a wonderful life in the years she was here...

Thinking of you and your family this weekend as you go through this difficult time...

Chevy:  Thanks for the key lime pie recipe.  Almost guilt free.  Kaara: Dinner sounds wonderful.  What time should be be there?   Debbie:  I can't wait to try the Halibut Picatta.  Laurie:  I've never cooked Orzo but found this great sounding recipe while I was investigating.  I'm going tobuy some orzo.

     Mushroom Orzo

    • 1/2 cup butter, divided
    • 8 pearl onions
    • 1 cup uncooked orzo pasta
    • 1/2 cup sliced fresh mushrooms
    • 1 cup water
    • 1/2 cup white wine
    • garlic powder to taste
    • salt and pepper to taste
    • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
    • 1/4 cup fresh parsley

    Directions

    1. Melt 1/2 the butter in a skillet over medium heat. Stir in the onions, and cook until golden brown. Mix in orzo, mushrooms, and remaining butter. Cook and stir 5 minutes, until butter is melted and mushrooms are tender.
    2. Pour water and wine into the skillet, and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low. Season with garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Cook 7 to 10 minutes, until orzo is al dente. Stir in the Parmesan cheese and parsley to serve.

Neglected to say - Lacey, sorry about your dog.  Apple: I see your happy apple is back.

This looks like an easy recipe - Chicken Asiago Orzo.  No quantities, but the guy in the video is funny.  I think this would be good for fledgling cooks - like some of our kids?

Morning ladies:  Thanks for all the encouraging words and good tips for my dinner tonight..I love to cook, but don't like to be in the kitchen fussing when I have company, so I try to keep it simple.

Lacey:  So sorry about your poor doggie.  I have been through this with DD twice in the last two years as her precious pets have become so sick.  They are so like members of the family and give you such unconditional love.  You will have many wonderful memories.

Michelle:  Glad you are getting some good weather..it rained all day here yesterday and we're only about a half hour south.

Lacey, I am so sorry about your furbaby.  It sounds like you've given her a wonderful life and she has brought so much into yours.  Can the vet come to the house?  I was able to do that for my dog austin.

I worked on a note for 1 1/2 hours yesterday and then the whole computer system crashed!  The whole! company one! from RI to Boston, the headquarters!  I hope it's there when I go back on Monday.  It was like a snow day in the office, everyone was like "Bye! Can't work on anything!  I'm outa here!!  We left our receptionist alone at the front desk, heh heh.

Today I'm alone at last!  I have been working, working, working. Thank you for thinking of me Laurie and Debbie!  Ive been getting home, zoning out and going to bed. Today Im getting the car fixed, dropping off the laundry, returning my hair to it's "natural" color, calling the electrician. and maybe making cookies for the firemen down the street ( my friend Robin's astoundingly clever idea!)  They came after I lit a fire, when into the bathroom, came out to a room full of smoke, couldn't reach in to open the flew (sp?) threw water on the fire, watched bits of paper float up and panicked and called them.  They were here in 2 seconds, 5 or 6 of them, opened all the windows, reached in with a big oven mitt thing and opened the flew, put a fan in the window, said, "it's going to be a little cold in here m'aam, and marched out.

I hope everyone is having a good day, I see some new cuisine here! Have to try it.

Looking forward to seeing some of you soon!

Dinner last night was Mexican Restaurant with my daugher.

Thanks everyone for your kind words of support and condolence. We are back from the vet, who was a wonderful compassionate young woman. I am always touched by how kind vets and their staff are to families as they say goodbye to their beloved pets....they might want to give lessons to some of the medical staff at some hospitals. Some years ago on this date we said good-bye to my father when he was in the care of some less than compassionate young pulmonologists.

Bedo, good to see your post....and yes, I had hoped that our regular vet would come to the house to euthanize Lacey, but he is recovering from ACL surgery, and as disappointed as we were since he has followed her for her whole 15 year life, the experience today was as personalized and caring as it could be. Our younger son drove out to be with her too. I had always referred to him as her "litter mate" when she was really young...since he was always the guy rolling around the floor playing with her...unlike his older brother who was always training her to respond to commands(the alpha male). So I'm glad DS2 was there for her (and with us!) too. Having the "local portion"of the family together meant a lot....and the experience evoked memories and important stories of relatives who died when DS2 was much younger. Gave him a chance to bring up some questions about his departed grandparents that he has wondered about for some time. All in all, a peaceful and meaningful passing. As hard as such times are they are also a time for growth in life. It also gives me comfort to know that DS2 will be experienced to manage such a situation when he is the dad in his own family. Thanks again for all of your support! Now we are gathering stair mats and rugs to be cleaned, and thinking about what to do with all the beds, comfy blankets, gates, etc. that are all around this house....Lacey obviously took up a lot of real estate here in her older years...and we are only consciously noticing it now. If I can ever figure out how to post a pic, I will post one of Lacey and our little grandson walking together a few weeks ago when she had her "last hurrah" visiting at his house. The memory of that visit is really precious now.

On to food....I am loving all the new recipe ideas. The orzo we had last week with shrimp and spicy tomato sauce and feta was great. I love some of the orzo ideas that were posted...and if people are worried about the butter amounts, I'm sure olive oil could sub for it. Nutritionist did tell me to watch the dairy.

Michelle, so glad you have a had some great weather ....and wonderful meals with good friends!
Kaara, you are a wise entertainer...and the meal sounds wonderful.

Am looking forward to the 24th...

All done with chores! (Except the hair thing, don't care)  I'm making whole wheat spaghetti with a jar of creamy vodka style marinara sauce- that's what it says on the label- and Quorn frozen meatless and soy-free meatballs..and I'll probably have it for dinner again tomorrow.  I know, I know, so exciting. I'm sorry that you are all so jealous, but I only have enough for myself.

Lacey, I'm glad that things were as they were meant to be.

Dinner tonight will be last night's leftovers from my birthday dinner out.  DH and I both had oysters and spaghetti in olive oil and garlic sauce.  Since there aren't many oysters left, I bought a carton of lump crab meat to add.  Would have bought more fresh oysters but there weren't any at the closest supermarket.  I'll also prepare the baby artichokes following debbie's recipe suggestions.

Kaara, your meal for today sounded delicious.  Michelle, your meal out at the Spanish restaurant also sounded yummy.

The house is full of the aroma of roasting pork.  I cooked a Boston-butt roast for tomorrow's noon meal at my mother's.  We'll have sandwiches (buns) and a green pea salad.  Thawed frozen green peas, sliced boiled eggs, small cubes of cheddar cheese and sweet pickle relish with mayo dressing.

Hope everybody had a good Saturday.  Mine was lazy.  There was much that could have been done, but I went for a walk, made a quick trip to the supermarket, and made up my bed.  That's about it.   Oh, and put the roast in the oven after studding it with garlic cloves and sprinkling heavily with salt-free cajun seasoning (Paul Prudhomme's Magic).  Four hours at 325.  It's tender and falling off the bone.

Carole:  That pork roast sounds just like the ones my grandmother used to make!  Boy, were they good!  That green pea salad sounds interesting too...is that an LA specialty?

Everything's done for dinner tonight...just waiting for the company to arrive.

    bedo,

Glad to hear that you being away was due to being tired and nothing more serious...

A total network crash is a huge deal resulting in lots of lost dollars to a company... Here's hoping that this is the kick in the butt that they need to realize that they NEED to upgrade their equipment... You can hire the best people possible but, if they don't have working equipment, it is all for nothing...

    Lacey (Pat),

Sending you a huge hug.... It's sure not easy to lose a beloved pet....

Have felt all of your wonderful hugs all day. Thanks so much...off to get some sleep..... a very long day...and was not successful yet with the photo attachments. On the positive side, when I turned on my computer and it was frozen solid, it looked like it was "virused" but DH in his patient way cleared whatever it was up and I'm back. Maybe I'll send him down to RI, Bedo! :) Good Luck Monday!

For take out dinner we had a very interesting Greek lentil soup, along with shrimp scampi over linguini, and caesar salad, from a favorite restaurant up the street, Sweet Basil. All so tasty, but my fingers already feel the salt.

Happy Sunday everyone!  I can't believe we already back on daylight savings time...it seems I just set the clocks back!  Might as well just change it and leave it that way.

Dinner was great last night....good company.  My friend prepared the most awesome crabcakes with sweet mustard sauce over baby arugula.  It was to die for!  She just loves to cook, and is kinda like Paula Dean...doesn't spare the calories, but when you eat, you don't mind!  She is suffering from cancer as well, a form of lukemia called CLL, which she has been living with for 10 years.  She has yet to have any treatment for it, and holds her own, but is ill quite a bit because her immune system is so bad.  She still works full time in real estate, and I wish she would slow down a bit, but she loves to keep busy.

DS and family are coming by today, so will get to see DGD.  Looking forward to that.
