Kam, hoping all goes well with your surgery and that the recovery is as pain free as possible. Blue, hoping the prednisone does the trick for you. I have heard it causes weight gain - There are not too many people I really, really disdain. Rush limbaugh just happens to be one of them. I use the ignore button on him, that's for sure!! Alexandria, best of luck with the job interview. It's sounding pretty good. All, I don't know Barbara, but am glad you found news of your friend, It's distressing when we don't hear from our BCO sisters for long periods of time, scary. Kira, sorry about the screening job but having grown up in Florida and witnessed many hurricanes, I know you consider yourself lucky that there wasn't worse damage. This thread moves so fast I have a hard time keeping up. I admire the friendships that I see here.

You won't believe this - been walking around outside for ages calling Poppy to come in for the night - no sign of her and it's way past when she normally comes in. Getting really really worried. Just came back in for the fifth time and was out near the cars and looked inside Steve's 4WD - poor baby trapped in there - been there for hours - at least 4, since he came home. He'd left the back open when he got home and delayed going to get his golf clubs out, that must have been when she decided to take a look. Hope she hasn't left him any presents - will have to check in the morning.

I was getting really upset - thinking she'd been hit by a car or something. She must have heard me calling and was right by the back door - lucky I saw her - imagine if she was in there for the whole night - I hate to think of the smell.

I've pretty much decided to stay home tomorrow - coming down with another cold - might work from home. Should go to bed but still getting over the whole kitty thing.

Susieq....glad you found your kitty.  We had way too many kitty incidents, and injuries so have a big screen room and the cats are in there.  They are somewhat out of doors.....but we know where they are at all times and they no longer get lost, stolen, or otherwise injured in some way.  Loss of TOTAL freedom, but they adjust and do fine.  Happy and content.  We have warmers for the cooler months so it all works out.

RNC on for today -- blech. 

Feel concern as the storm approaches Louisiana.  Heard on the news.....it is the length of time that the storm will hover there that is causing some upset.  Way too long....and we will get parts of it here this week-end.

So glad Poppy was rescued - and it was a benign experience. 

Hand surgery is tomorrow.  A little nervous.  

Wishing not too much rain for the folks in the path of Issac, and just enough rain for folks suffering from drought.  We had a ton of rain here in Jersey yesterday, and thanks to the gutter repair, it all stayed outside and not in my basement.

Alexandria -- I've had carpal tunnel surgery on both wrists.  The only real difficulty I had was when I used the "facilities" when surgery was done on the hand I used when using the "facilities".  Never had to take more than on or two Tylenol3 afterwards.

Whenever I had surgery with local anaesthetic and a light dusting of IV tranqs to keep me docile, I always took a CD player and played my favourite, Saint Saens' Organ Symphony.  It's my "go to" surgery symphony -- yes, even for root canal, lumpectomy, and CTS!  The Beach Boys would be my second favourite.......

What an excellent David Brooks article.

Maureen Dowd couldn't have written it better. What you see is a man t o t a l l y  lacking in empathy. That's what I most dislike about Romney. He doesn't really care.

David Brooks is what the real Republican Party looked like.  Republicans at one time were rational people who put America ahead of partisan politics.  I really miss the true Republican party.

think many do: Jacob Javitts, Ben Gilman, Edward Brooks, yes, even Nelson Rockefeller.  There were many more, and sadly, good people, esp. women from Maine, are leaving.  Can't blame them at all - understanding it really is not possible to change from within anymore.

The latest kerfluffle. which will be called a "misspeak" = comparing a pregnancy from a rape to that of a pregnancy out of wedlock....my mind doesn't have the ability to even TRY to understand that kind of, well, stuff....

My son and his friend are in San Antonio tonight for a video game convention (geeks and nerds, costumes welcome) and I booked his hotel. He just called to say they were there and in their room. " Mom this place is old!". Yes it's historical, is your room nice? " Yeah but we didn't expect an old place."



He is literally next door to the Alamo and a block or so from the convention center and steps from the Riverwalk. Guess I should have gone for the Holiday Inn. Hee Hee.



I've stayed there many years ago, thought I'd get him some culture.

I gave one of my cats away today. I can only have 2 in the new apartment I'm moving into Thursday, so gave away my Lovey, the calico. She's the most outgoing, so it only made sense to give away the one who'd take it best. A very nice lady came to see her and said she'd been struck by how pretty she was in the ad picture. She's basically starting all over from scratch after a bad divorce and the kids miss having a pet. The ex kept the dog and told her her cat had gotten out and he didn't know where he was. So I loaded her down with food, catnip, scratching pad, toys, brush and carrier. She'll keep me updated.

So I'm sad, but I'm happy, too.

I pick up the keys tomorrow and the truck is rented for Thursday!!! Cutting it a bit close on the kitty there, but it all fell into place at the last minute. And I downloaded and filled out the form for her to transfer Lovey's microchip info into her name. She's paid up for the next year, too.

Thanks, guys. I'll be raising a nonvirtual toast to her tonight (Bailey's, yum!)
