I just heard from my sister in the Boston area.  They had quite a bit of flooding and wind damage from Irene.  Her daughters are without power for the week.  However, everything is repairable.   

Sending smiles to HL.  I really do hope those horrible drains are out this week.  They are the WORST!

Morning Everyone!

Thinking about Libby this a.m. and hoping she is feeling better.  I think the first week or two will be the worst and can't wait for her to get the drains out.

We just got back from running errands and it's time for me to start mowing.  I've let things go lately, and it's a mess.

Hope you are still safe after we heard there have been deaths from the hurricane.

We are in Dundee in a Hilton that leaves a lot to be desired - no fridge or safe in the room, no aircon, you have to close the bathroom door to get at the vanity - the food and drink is outrageously priced and the hotel is a long walk from the town. The stupid chick on reception told us there was a laundry not far away so 4 of us piled into a cab and it didn't exist. He was lovely and took us to one futher away. With 4 of us sharing the cab ride it was ok. We can pick it up in the morning. While we were gone someone found a pick up and deliver laundry - we can't win.

I've paid for 24 hrs internet access so I'll be around a fair bit as there's nothing else to do by the looks of it. We are being taken out in the bus tomorrow morning though.

Got good news from DD - she is now home in her state and she took Poppy to the vet on time (to board). Apparently, when she saw she was at the vet she complained - I do miss her. DD took her bed there so she would feel at home. Now lets hope the house survives until we get home. I've asked the man over the road to keep an eye on it and remove any junk mail from the letter box.

I am well over this bus trip, as I said before - never ever again.

Sorry about the bus trip and sub-par Hilton!  The Indian dinner in Glasgow sounded great!  I've been to Glasgow and Edinburgh but never Dundee -- hope at least the views from the bus window are beautiful!  And then -- on to Paris?  Bon voyage!

Blue .. I'm so sorry to hear about your arm today.  I hope you've got some meds you can take for the pain.

We've been busy today.  Errands and then mowing the back lawn and raking up all the chestnut pods.  Have I mentioned how much I hate those trees.  I can't wait to get rid of them.  They're about 60 ft tall and a huge mess.

The black walnut tree is a huge mess too, but we are going to leave that one alone.  My neighbors like the walnuts. 

Time to get cleaned up.  Hope everyone is having a good day,

Turns out there is a casino across the car park which has reasonably priced food - no walking required. I just got the shits because we are a bit isolated and are stuck with paying the exhorbitant Hilton prices - 3 pounds for a diet coke - 1.25 pounds in a shop in town. God knows what time the golfers will get back - looks like another late dinner.

Hey Blue - wish I had your lovely slim legs. Had a bit of a weep today in the bus - I hate getting old and being fat and ugly!!! Must be PTSD from the bloody bc.

BTW this is supposed to be 4 star - garbage!!! Nice lobby but crap rooms - we have been spoiled after the 5 star ones.

Hi, all - well, my little town was blessed - we're all fine!  Lots of trees down, branches all over, roads closed, but so far, no flooding!  Which is AMAZING just F'ng amazing - have any of you seen what's happening in VT - just north of us?  Terrifying.  Means of course it has no where to go but the Connecticut River - which runs between VT & NH, down thru middle of MA, and then into CT.

Felt like a freight train was running over my cabin for several hours on Sunday, then so quiet it was really weird ( The Eye!) - and then winds shifted, and more rain.  Wind wasn't as bad as aniticipated, but can't begin to describe destruction of water in several towns around me.  Most of the small rivers have receded, we're all jsut waiting for the crest after VT.

Still, the emergency services have been FABULOUS, truly amazing - even FEMA was available if we needed it.  Thank you, President Obama.

So, busy today helping farmer friend try to restake some of their produce.  Corn fields flattend. Today is SO sunny, gorgeous, New England almost Fall at it's best.

Slightly off topic (or maybe not!), but wow-I just had a revelation!!  Who knew hotdogs could ever go BAD??  I just found one in an old packet in the back of the meat drawer in the fridge - EWWWW!!!!  (Disclaimer - any resemblance of the preceding food-related statement to anything derogatory in the current code etiquette manual is purely coincidental.)

I don't know if the national news is covering how BAD, serious it is in VT.  Every town seems to have damage.  Brattleboro, just over MA border is really flooded.  Several "covered bridges" are gone.  Probably as bad in NH, but we aren't getting much on that yet.

Hudson Valley/Catskills in NY (where I was for a few days last week) are hit bad in some parts, too -- flooding in the town of Margaretville very scary, and power outages all over.

Oh, Ann, brings tears - she was SUCH SUCH a trooper, and her family.  Oh, it gets more & more difficult to think of the women no longer here.  I still think of Robin Wendy - she & I "shared" docs at Dana Farber.  Then, it reminds me I've been here since 2007 - and that's coming up to 5 years.  Feels much longer, and much shorter.

Blue - was Pinkstock just a "one off" event?  I remember hearing about it, but I wasn't doing well then.  It sounded like such a wonderful gathering, was just wondering if it might happen again.
