Craisydaisy .. it's a medical term and nice way of saying "fat belly hanging down."
Jancie .. glad to hear you and Jazzy had a great show yesterday. I was thinking about you. I love dressage. I hear you about the chipped nail polish. I'm hard on my hands, but I do keep my toes polished.
Sunflowers .. so good to hear no trees down. The limbs and branches you can deal with, but trees mean it's time to get our the chainsaws and go to work.
Ann .. thinking of you .. read about flooding in southern Manhattan. Hope you're high and dry.
hugs,
Bren
PS .. Thinking about Libby and hoping she's having a better day. Wish I wasn't five hours from her, I'd go and help her if I could.
-
Fashion sense be damned. I just take my clothes OFF!!

But I usually wear a little necklace, because Southern girls need a bit of glam, you know!
I was really enjoying the peacefulness over all of BCO the past few weeks. When I saw RP here, I knew it wouldn't last.
A big bear was delighted to find that we accidentally left the garage door open last night. He had quite the breakfast from our freezer. Tim popped it from pretty close range with the rubber buckshot, which apparently scared the poo out of Mr. Bear, as evidenced by the biggest pile of scat I've ever seen.
So, no, bears don't necessarily shit in the woods...
-
Anne .. geez .. what's up with the bear? I hope that rubber buckshot hurt his butt! I remember all the great stories Alaska Deb would tell us about bears getting into her yard. Sure do miss her.
hugs,
Bren

Anne - Oh my! I am so glad I wasn't there. Love to look at the bears but scared to be anywhere close to them.
Bren - Friday after working over 10 hours to get ready I looked at my friend as we were finally eating dinner at 10 pm and asked "Is it really worth it for 8 minutes?" She responded she was thinking the exact same thing. After we both did our classes I asked her the same question and we both knew it is worth every bit of it when you have a great ride on your horse and you can tell from the scoring how you have improved your riding. Dressage is truly a bond between the rider and the horse which is why I love it so much.
I am watching the news on Irene as I am trying to keep up with what has been going on with BCO so I can't say I have grasped the entire story yet.
-
Jancie, congrats on your show! Dressage is so very hard but so very rewarding.
Anne, ROFLMAO, what a mental picture that was!
-
Bren.......thanks for da explanation!!
We really need a do over in the bikini fashion industry for us girls that aren't ready for the full bloomers on the beach approach! Janice........I hear ya about the nail polish..........I'd just chew mine off........I know, ewwwww, I am a nailbiter, not to classy there! Too bad your video did not turn out!
Hahaha AnneW...........I'm always looking out for signs of bears at the cottage, I know they are close by since we found a den in the spring but so far they have left our place alone! Must have enough berries this year to keep them satisfied! We are super careful about leaving anything tempting outside tho! Yea....Alaska Deb, sure do miss her stories.
-
Jancie -- congratulations to you (and Jazzy) !!!
Sunflowers, hope the storm is over -- thinking of you !!!
AnneW -- yikes! Bears -- oh my!
Lewing and Enjoyful -- my hurricane list included vodka... Very helpful when the wind went crazy last night as I was trying to sleep!
Bren and BarbaraA -- I'm in the "East Village" adjacent to "mandatory evacuation zone" -- we were really, really lucky. Just a puddle of water inside basement door -- was fearing much more, since our basement has flooded a bit just with heavy rain. I heard that the city has been working on the storm sewer system over the summer, basically "roto-rooting" it -- they must have worked on our area, because there is much less "ponding" at intersections (and flooding in basements) than we've had in past rains. Yay for infrastructure upkeep!
Really feel lucky -- I see a big tree branch down across the block -- and lots of people lost power in Queens, Staten Island, Long Island... Fingers crossed for anyone in the storm's path (lewing, any word from Brooklyn today?).
Hope Libby is feeling a little better today.
Love you all!
Ann

Hi Barb, and the other ladies.........................I'm back................well it was quite an experience............."Irene" is gone, but she left us in one hell of a mess...........................safe, and unskathed, but it was a scary several hours....................like the hurricane wasn't enough, they were also Tornado warnings throughout the night.................they began earlier in the evening around 9pm, and we had to go down to my daughters wash-room since that is the only room in the house with no windows..................we sat on chairs, .......my daughter Nikki, her husband SEan, and Makayla and Sean Jr.................scared out of their wits......only 10, and 13.............got the all clear after about 1/2 hour, and 1 hour later it came over again.............Tornado warning..........back to the wash room for another hour................then they said it was going to be a Tornado watch the rest of the night till 5am......................so...........my daughter refused to leave the TV with the EMERGENCY ANNOYING BLEEPING THING, for any disaster warning...............and we slept in the family room...........the kids claimed the full-size new aerobed I brought over, I was on the end of the sofa which reclines.............daughter on the other end..........which reclines, and son-in-law in his recliner..............of course the frigging "boxer dog", had to lay between my daughter and I, and the bastard snored all night long............Between the snoring dog, the friggin TV in the dark............and my 2 grandchildren so scared they got so "giddy", I was about to throw them out into the "hurricane".........it was some night......................probably about 2 hours sleep........was drinking coffee, and eating bagels at 4am...........
The TV said "don't sleep upstairs if you have big trees around your house..................she does, so in addition to the " I can't leave this TV in case there is another Tornado Warning............and Oh my God suppose a tree falls on the house", at least it will hit the upstairs first............we were down stairs and wide awake all night..
When I left Sean Jr...............was into his 7th hour of sleep "upstairs" in his bed.......Makayla, had just gotten up after sleeping 7 hours "in her bed"................Sean Sr.........and Nikki were falling asleep on the chairs when I left.........................
Have no hope for the shore house..............will know more when I get down there tomorrow to see.........my son will take me............I'm sure ther is no power...................how does................a freezer full of cooked crabs,2 1/2 gallons of ice cream, popcicles, nutty buddy cones, tastykakes, and 3 large containers of Fresh Frozen homemade crab gravy sound........................all thawed out....................now I guess that's a new fridge.............just hope the roof is still on, and I don't have to dive in the pool and retrieve the patio furniture.............................will continue this saga when I get back...............holy shit, now where did I hide that Vodka...............................
-
Oh Ducky, what a night you had! Thanks for letting us know that you're okay and so is the family. Now we wait to hear about the house on the seashore. Fingers still crossed that it and its contents withstood the rigours of Irene.
-
Ducky -- glad you and the family are safe!!! Hope you find the shore house better off than you're imagining -- I'll be glad to share my vodka! (((((((Ducky))))))))
-
{{{Ducky}}} Praying you had little or no damage.
-
Hi Ducky~
Not much sleep here either as the weather channel said about 2 am. that we should be sleeping downstairs. The trees were whipping around and the house is surrounded by older trees. Between the kids and my hubby, I ended up sleeping on the floor.
Lots of coffee for me today!
Hugs to you...
-
Just had the MOST incredible tapas dinner in Glasgow - OMG - to die for.
Stay safe girls.
I thought your photos were lovely and you were very stylish - so there!!

Wow -- guess NYC was pretty spot-on about mandatory evacuation zones! This is a pic from "the zone" 3 blocks north of me, this afternoon:

-
Whoa, Ann. Yikes!
On a more relaxing note, here is a pic from our NOTL trip. I hope I didn't post this before.

-
Love the picture, Barbara! Ann, yours I don't love so much . . . very glad that your own building came through OK. The report from Brooklyn is that everything is fine at SO's apartment; no trees down on his street (one big branch landed on a car a block up, but didn't seem to have so much as scratched it), minor water in the basement, roof deck planters still upright. He even went for a walk in Prospect Park this afternoon - I yelled at him for that - and reports that he only saw one small tree uprooted. His overnight lodger is already headed back to Coney Island to check out the damage there.

Just put our home-made pizza in the oven. Glad to read that the damage so far is minimal!
Between yesterday's CNE (Crazydaisy, I always loook forward to it until I get there and yuk on the deep-fried butter) and that wild boy they call me GS today, I'm kinda pooped so will sit back and read and look forward to tonight's episode of Trueblood. I still haven't figured out who I like better, Eric or Bill!
-
Glad to hear hurricane damage so far is not so bad.
-
Just heard from SV in Duck NC and they had damage but her house is fine. Whew.
-
Glad that everyone and everyone's property seems to be all right. I am sure Cape May is fine Ducky.
Ann, nice to see you posting and Barbara I love that picture. It reminds me of BCO B&G evenings here.
What a very, very sleepy weekend I had. I napped all the time. Did I mention that I have a crappy hypothalamus? :-) I just woke up from a three hour nap! I am seeing an ob-gyn at Hopkins in two weeks time, as I think it has to do with early perimenopause or something and I may consider very low doses of progesterone since that could be the problem....who knows. Or maybe just a hypothalamus transplant.
E - send HL a hug. I hope her pains meds are doing what they are supposed to do. Don't forget to let her know about Timtam's site if she doesn't already.
Congratulations on the dressage, Jancie!
Enough about health and wellness. I am watching the Planet Blue series on NGEO I am an animal lover. So nice to be lazy and do nothing occasionally.
(((Blue)))
OK, I'm an atheist, so Sunday isn't "Sunday". I heard that the BCO B&G has Sunday hours, so come on in and have a early night cap, everyone.
-
Glad to see ducky and Ang and Ann checking in. You guys had a rough night ... will make good stories someday but you have to be exhausted. Was relieved that Sunflowers still had power but now it's been awhile since we have heard from her ... fret. Hope the storm blows over quickly with the least possible damage.
Athena ... lioness ... catnaps ... it's all good for you. Sunday hours are midnight to midnight aren't they?
-
Yes they are ....WR, I like your new avatar..
-
Athena................will find out for sure tomorrow......leaving 7am with my son to go and find out...........I just hope whatever it is is minimal................I really wanted to get the last weekend in...............I never miss Labor Day at my shore home...........It is the weekend that my husband passed away, and we send balloons up to him with personel messages inside..............i hope its fine.
-
Just a little fashionable bling I picked up at Walmart. I save it for special occasions.
-
ducky ... all digits crossed that your place is in good shape!
-
thanks ladies..................hoping for the best................
-
Ducky
Hoping for the best too.
-
Has Anyone watched "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest"!

-
Isn't he cute?

-
I talked to my 82 year old aunt in Connecticut. She is without power but otherwise fine
My uncle has moved out of his house near the water until things get better.
I am hoping and praying that all will be wll with them
Nice pictures Blue.
