    Linda

fabulous..and thanks to desdemona for explaining what I missed.  If  3 monstamoma has a "sick" sense of humor - then I now know I MUCH prefer sick to "well" ones!  Still chuckling at the tin foil hat. If you haven't yet read "the Search for Signs of  Intelligent Life in the Universe " by Jane Wagner performed by her partnerLily Tomlin, you must.  There's a video of it too.  I thought of Lily wearing her "unbrella hat" cuz that's how she communicates with her Space Chums as she calls the people she's waiting to have come visit her...

    Nodding assent. Just heard too.

I don't think I could laugh at a "well" sense of humor. It is probably the late night, G-rated type that makes me fall asleep. I know everybody thinks Seinfeld, Letterman, Leno and now Jon Stewart are funny. I find them boring and obvious.

Give me Bill Maher and Chris Rock and D L Houghley any time! English humour stands above all, on the shoulders of giants, IMO. Watered down popularized "humor" is just not funny. But I recently saw some re-runs of Three's Company - I nearly died laughing because of all the farce involved. Old 70s and 80s comedy was funny because there were still taboos. Today, everything goes, so nothing is funny. Or the jokes have to be understood by bumble bee-sized brains so as to improve ratings, so they are so bad that you have to be nudged to laugh.  Edited for typos about a million times!

1Athena, I agree love English humor, but guess not to surprising I'm first generation American my parents were from England. I did love Three's Company as well as many of the other shows from that era.

Athena.....I think Chris Rock is was of the best comedians! I have to say though that Jon Stewart is not only funny but so good looking, too! I have never watched his show just the highlights that Facebook post. Guess I find that kind of humor very funny. He usually goes after the politicians and Glen Beck.

Well I adore Monty Python, Absolutely Fabulous, and all kinds of sick humor, so I am absolutely honored to be in such good company!

Amazingly, my two male friends who have had breast cancer scares have done incredibly well with my help, and my sense of humor.

Different strokes for different folks. The ignore feature is a wonderful thing.

Desdemona, don't panic yet---I am the queen of thyroid nodules---been getting them scanned or biopsied since I was 18 or 19.  Everytime its been nothing. . . .the stress of waiting for the result is a killer but most of them are squat.

Some of us---confess that radiologist guy completely didn't get the joke and felt obligated to go into lengthy explaination of how thyroid nodules are unrelated to breast cysts and liver whathaveyous--some of us just grow things.  Its what we do.  And most of the time, the things we grow are nothing.

I shall continue to hold my thumbs while everyone waits for their test results and the results of their friends.

oh and not to fear! I have attached straps to my foil hat so The Watchers can't get in my head and make me mean while I hold my thumbs. . . .

    Lest I forget,

    Happy Summer Solstice to all!!!!!!

Not sure how we will celebrate as DH is off to his new French class leaving me with the monsters. . .perhaps some pasta with lox and peas?  Not completely traditional but alas, I believe we are out of pickled herring. . . . .On the bright side, when I leave work at five-ish there will still be 5 more hours of sunshine!!!!!!!!!

Coming soon on the Dining with the Monsters Front:  Salmon Season is Upon Us and we've already called "Me!" for a whole salmon (with head of course) from our favorite local fisherman. . . .

We LOVEE LOVE LOVE Brit humor in our house.....from Mr. Bean to Hyacinth Bucket to My Family to Are you being served? whatever. . . . .We own several of Mr. Bean's movies and the complete set of Keeping up Appearences (which was a Christmas present to the monsters 2 or more years ago).

Did you know that Mr. Bean is very very very popular in China?  As one friend from Hong Kong told us, EVERYONE knows Mr. Bean, everyone loves Mr. Bean. . . . .Seriously the best part about British Comedy is that the jokes can hit at all levels---there is funny stuff for the monsters (back when they were little) and funny stuff for the adults at the same time.

Thanks, 3monstmama.  Dear friend doesn't seem worried, so I won't worry, either.  They said the swelling in her neck is from her lungs and is nothing.  She had so much radiation, which included her neck, that I guess her lymph nodes are a little damaged and behave strangely or something.

I bought some wild caught Keha salmon last week and it was delicious.  So, sent my son to the store the other day for more and he came back with a huge slab of it.  Didn't feel like cooking it tonight, so threw it in freezer.  Guess freezing wild caught salmon is pretty much defeating the purpose, but I bet it will still taste okay.

I brush olive oil on my salmon and season it with old bay and then broil it for 20 minutes.  Lots of lemon juice and it's delicious.  Another nice way to prepare salmon is to poach it in orange juice, reduce the juice, and use it as a sauce.  Any other recommendations on how to do nice salmon?

This post was reported  - what rules do you think it breaks ;-))))  Maybe Princess Beatrice was offended?

    3Monstamoma

NO WAY.  I am still laughing at your post.  Have an idea to make a Tin Hat ( think Princess Beatrice at royal wedding wearing an IUD) spelling out the word - lobotomy.  This thread is such a gem, discovered it late in its life, but it has kept me smiling -

Bren -my deepest wishes for you & your cousin.  It has been increasingly impossible, to imagine a "cure" for any kind of cancer - sorry to be grim, but just lost another dear, dear childhood friend, melanoma, and learning of more and more in my monthly support group who are having a reoccurance of bc YEARS, I mean years, after treatment. So grateful they have medical options to help them.  Anytime someone suggests wheat grass or sunny thoughts - I want to cry!

I saw an episode of the US version of 'The Office' last night - I cacked myself laughing. Normally, US remakes of British comedy shows don't come across as well as the original but they sure have done a good job on that one - not that I've watched any of the UK one. My favourite british one is the IT Crowd - probably because I work in IT.

I think the best humour is the unexpected -- the Brits are especially good at that.  The "humour" in most U.S. sitcoms these days is just one set-up after another -- you know what's coming.  Where's the humour in that?

Of course there's crappy comedy coming out of GB too, but thankfully the days of Benny Hill's toilet and sexual innuendo are long gone (I hope!).

Everyone loves Mr. Bean!  And Blackadder too!

3mons -- do you use the salmon head to make fish stock?  Or do you do something far more exotic?  Inquiring minds etc.....

I love Brit humour! Currently, "Doc Martin." Classics, "Yes, Minister" and "Yes, Prime Minister," "Ab Fab." Very dated but still hilarious "Spitting Image" (from the mid-80s).

Bx was lengthy -- several areas, many films and an ultrasound as a final precaution. Results Thursday, Friday at the latest. Got lunch at Cracker Barrel and a ride in the country out of the deal.

Multiple plans are in place for whatever the results are ... Sitting waiting patiently and experiencing food envy at fresh-caught salmon.

Barbara, your picture was great! I liked yours better than the original!

Bren, Athena, WR, Barbara, and everyone on the pages before, thank you for your good vibes! I feel 'em!

Britchick - I did a marathon of Gavin and Stacey too - a friend lent it to me. I keep going around asking people "what's occuring" and everything is "lush" to me. We are going to visit Wales in September, so at least now I speak the lingo :)

Ah, British humour ;)  I lived, as an adult, by choice, in London for aobut 12 years.  Saw my first Muppets, failed to understand ANY Tom Stoppard play I attended, fell in LOVE with cornish pasties, and British humour.

Give thanks that the PBS station in western MA shows BlackBooks, The Worst Week of my Life, Hyacinth Bouquet, all the Masterpiece Mysteries, and just wish we could get Monty Python's flying circus.  I would have the Minister of Silly Walks walk right over to the nutters who seem to find it impossible to stop reading this thread, yet are SO, SO, SO "offended" by the sense of humour of us all, that we keep being reported.

BTW, Princess Beatrice DOES have a fabulous sense of humour, she auctioned that creation on EBAY ( I think it was) and raised more than $100,000. for chidren's charities.

Britchick - We're flying in to Cardiff and spending one night there. I desperately want to see the Dr Who exhibit which is right next door to the hotel I booked. We are then going to Swansea for a few nights as we have friends there - not sure what we will see yet. I love watching 'Escape to the Country' which is a real estate show finding people their country dream home, so I do get to see lots of great places including the Cotswalds. I love everywhere that is green (being a kiwi). I have never liked the Australian vegetation and I've been here 48 years.

I was always a big fan of Ab Fab - sweety darling :)

I love all things British.  I love British lit, music and comedy.  I love Mr Bean, Fawlty Towers and Monty Python.

I thought Princess B's hat looked more like an elaborate toilet seat!  I never thought of an IUD...lol.  I have pasted a photo.

    http://www.luxurylaunches.com/auctions/princess_beatrices_royal_wedding_hat_sold_for_31100.php

I wish people who are offended by our humour would just ignore us.  I don't go on threads that annoy me.  Who needs the aggravation?

As for dinner, I have decided on making the world's best burger.  I have scoured my cook books and internet sites to find the best burger recipe.  That is my mission.  So, I bought some beef chuck that I am salting at the moment.  Then I will rinse the meat, grind it and form into patties.  I have made homemade spicy mayo, caramelized onions and bought the best cheddar I could find. I will serve with steamed green beans in a French shallot and grain mustard vinaigrette, grilled corn on the cob and a green salad......wish me luck!

    Edited to add photo.

    Hey Caerus!

Glad you're here, sorry about the reporting.  Probably best we let sleeping tinfoil hats and lobotomies lie for a while.  It's obviously been misinterpreted as a not-so-subtle attack on specific persons.

I'm still living in the benighted world of anastrazole but have my friends Celebrex and hydrocodonen to help guide me through.  Hope you're doing well!

susieq58---is that the Doctor Who Experience that was in London in the Spring?  Because biggest monster and DH took the chunnel from Paris just to attend.  They tell me it was AWESOME . . . .

That we are really big Doctor Who fans goes without saying . . .

as for the salmon head, lindasa, actually youngest monster eats it .. . The whole salmon gets roasted/baked uncovered in oven (maybe toss some onion or dill in the cavity)--head on--and youngest monster calls the head (and the tail) as his portion.  heaven help the fool who gets between him and his fish head. . . .

    he is also partial to chicken/duck/turkey butts . . . .

    well, you asked. . . .

Mary, I was prepared to defend MY burger as the world's best - I get freshly ground sirloin from the butcher and mix it with chipotle chiles, then top with monterrey jack, avocado, lettuce, tomatos if they're in season, maybe gild the lily with some cilantro-lime mayo - but then I read your description.

    I surrender!

E, I am so envious and not in a bad way.

Dinner will be hormone free, grass fed top sirloin with a baked sweet potato nekkid and sauteed organic spinach with diced organic 'maters with locally grown mushrooms. Yum, salivating while typing.

Prolly will need to add extra tinfoil to the hat tonight.
