Haha, Althena -- the thing is, what Stockwell Day says doesn't matter in the least!  A wee history lesson - he was leader of the Alliance Party in Canada way back in the 2 thousands and dreamed that he would one day be Prime Minister.  He suggested back then that referenda were the very best way for Canadians to show their support for/against just about anything.  So...a well-known national comedian by the name of Rick Mercer decided a "referendum" on asking Stockwell Day to change his name to "Doris" Day was a good idea.  Not surprisingly, via the internet, hundreds of thousands of Canucks voted in favour of the idea!

We Canadians do like our humour!!! For more on our dear Rick, just google his name.  I'm sure you're not interested in googling Mr. Day.....

As for unreported crimes.....hmmmmm.....how would we know?

(edited to correct the Party name -- how soon we forget!!)

Athena, Linda's right. Stockwell Day's dialogue doesn't matter but I will give hime credit for providing some good comedic soundbites. Here is a snippet of Rick Mercer in regards to Stockwell Day/Doris Day

Loved the Rick Mercer clip.  I think I voted for the referendum.  If Rick Mercer were the leader of one of the parties, would you vote for him?   (kind of in the Trump vein of thought)

Pickle, I didn't mean to start a debate, just trying to say, our experience has been different here, so our opinions are different.  I didn't keep a list either.

This thread has been moving so fast...  enjoying my education in Canadian politics, and think the term "riding" is incredibly sophisticated, exotic and cool !  Compared to "district" or "precinct" or "ward" !!!

But I need to say, Ellie, I'm so sorry to hear about your dad -- and your husband and daughter.  Oh my...  ((((((((((((((((Ellie))))))))))))))

And Otter!!!!  So glad you made it home safely through tornado warnings and nearby hailstorms!  Yikes!   ((((((((((((((((((Otter))))))))))))))))

And congratulations to konakat on 10th and final zap!  ((((((((((((((((((Elizabeth)))))))))))))))))

I see I wasn't the only one who thought "riding" had something to do with horses or distances!  Wrong!

Dinner tonight was organic split pea soup and two pieces of multigrain toast - how exciting is that?

Not an easy time I'm having.

Ellie, I'm so sorry to hear about your loss.

Thanks KK - so sorry for being ridiculously cryptic - partly because it's the sort of thiong that would invite a lot of advice, which I don't really want at the moment. I know most normal Homo Sapiens don't mind telling, and it isn't as if I have any state secrets to hide (or if I do, I've forgotten which ones.)

Not to horn in on the Canadian politics discussion, but I googled Vote Compass and found the US version - Electoral Compass

    http://www.electoralcompass.com/

And on all the issues combined, I'm in the dreaded "mushy middle". It wasn't a surprise that I lined up with Obama on some issues, but I was surprised to find out I lined up with McCain on a couple, too. Mostly though, I fell between the two.

I am sort of in the middle socially but am conservative fiscally. Again, no surprises.

I did this one too. The questions were fairer in my opinion but it was obviously from before the last election. I know I am being picky. Oh and I ended up close to President Obama.

I can't figure out how to post the graph of my position from the U.S. "Electoral Compass."  I'm right smack on the center (horizontal) line between social conservatism and social liberalism, and about 1/4 to 1/5 of the way to the right of the center (vertical) line between economic left and economic right.  Apparently, the politician with whom I share the most answers is ... Ron Paul!  Sheesh.  I don't think I should be admitting that here.  I guess it does fit with my proclaimed libertarian tendencies, though.  Still, I do fall somewhere to the left of his position on social issues; so maybe I won't get tossed out of this club just yet.

BTW, I don't know if this will make y'all feel better or not, but this crazy thread of Blue's is the only place I post on the Boards anymore.  I do read a few other threads, but I think I'm burned out except for this one.

Progressive Liberal once again.  In looking at the answers in detail, Obama and I swapped positions between completely agree/tend to agree and completely disagree/tend to disagree but were always on the same side of an issue.  I guess I voted for the candidate that I wanted.  Now I can quit worrying, since I've got a quiz to back up my opinions.  Laughing

Otter, I will try to forget that Ron Paul part.  Wink  Differences seriously don't bother me as long as we agree that we can disagree.  It's unlikely that any of us are going to change anybody here but hopefully we can gain an appreciation and some understanding of positions that differ from our own. - I hate the wording on that but can't think of a better way to say it.

    I love this crazy thread.

Well the Iconian probe would have destroyed the Enterprise if Jordie had not probed it.  Then there's the gateway that shows Toronto's City Hall.........hehehehe!
