If I thought starting a new thread would magically make everything ok maybe I could support it. But I don't. That hasn't worked in the past. There are many wonderful things in this thread and I would hate to lose them.
I like the idea of newbies not being able to delete. Really if they can only post five times a day that seems more of a restriction than not being able to report posts.
-
Mods, might I suggest you leave EVERYTHING that's been posted. That's what the "ignore" button is for. Personally, reading all the posts, I've had an AHA! moment. Intuitive observers can figure this out and I suspect now some of them have. Leaving the posts lets everyone make up their own mind about who to use the ignore function for. I guess what I'm really saying is deleting might do more damage....leaving it opens eyes.
Edited to add: I also think it would be a shame to lose condolences, recipes, pet advice etc.
-
I agree that this thread should stay. Starting over will make no difference unless other changes are made. The moderators have several suggestions of what those changes ought to be.
-
SAVE OUR THREAD!
-
The disruptors are enjoying this.
Deleting yet another thread ... this would be about #6 ... just enables them to continue their sick game.
Delete the disruptors instead.
-
Amen to that, Rabbit!
-
Delete this (and the other) thread and the bad guys win.
Not fair at all.
It would all just start again. I like most of the women here, and I choose to ignore the others--or at least try to sit on my hands till the desire to return snark with snark passes...
-
Again, thank you to the mods for asking us before acting.
The trolls win if another thread is deleted. Please let it stand.
-
I suppose it may be that everyone has me on ignore [which is okay 'cos I have one or two on ignore myself!
] but I'm curious about my suggestion that the thread be left up and locked. .. .is that not possible on this system?
Fresh start doesn't bother me but delete does seem like overkill. Not sure that it would trouble the source of deletions as all the deleted stuff is still deleted.......
To me, when the trolls really win is when all we do is discuss the trolls and the trollish acts. Want to beat the trolls? Trolls? What trolls?
-
I don't think this thread should be deleted or locked. Locking it is as bad as deleting it.
-
3monstmama, I don't have you on ignore and kind of doubt that anyone responding here does (but I can't speak for them I just don't see why anyone would). I just would like to see this thread stay. If that can't happen then your idea would be my next preference.
A new thread with all the old ones gone would seem to be punishing those who have tried to follow rules and get along, rather than those who have gamed the system.
-
Whether you delete it or let it stand, we'll be debating this issue in another six weeks unless BCO changes the Report feature or learns to block users by IP address.
I'm tired of returning to square one every time this happens.
-
Went to bed for a good night's sleep and all hell broke loose.
Blue says NO! That's good enough for me and my request to the moderators would be in line with her wishes.
As many have said, it will not make any difference, they will strike again on a new thread. If this one is deleted, they have accomplished exactly what they wanted to do. I realize it is a problem for the moderators but as long as people are allowed to report things that do not deserve to be reported, it will continue to happen.
The report button should do exactly what it says, report not disable. To disable should require verification of an infraction. Only verification by whatever means the moderators have at their disposal should be the only thing that can disable a poster. Yes, it would be more work for the moderators but at this point I am beginning to wonder how it could be any more trouble than what they are currently having to do.

Blue,Bin....and everyone HI!!! I also don't feel this should be deleted, locked,or whatever "punishment" would be. I have been to other threads(is this the right word for BCO "columns"?) I find this a FUN,INFORMATIVE and INTERESTING place to be. Although I dont have an avatar, tagline, or my DX listed I had been diagnosed with BC and had 2 mastectomies 1 in August and 1 in December 2010. I dont feel I belong in so many of the threads, so I dont go there or I might find them Boring and I dont go to those either. why cant people go to the threads they enjoy and ENJOY THOSE. When someone starts a new thread they are letting everyone know what that thread is about and if it doesnt suit they shouldn't bother with it............MELISSA, it seems you can see who enjoys the different threads and keeps coming back to meet, chat, argue, discuss, laugh, and cry with their friends. Most threads here ARE for cancer discussions, not everyone all the time wants to talk or think of cancer and there are a few places they can try to get away from cancer. Please leave this thread as is, reinstate Blue and Athena Thank you all for letting me ramble and state my own opinion of this thread.

ok i must have missed a lot and i love too many of you on here to stay away...enjoyful, once i am through with the surgeries i am going to get us a dog...our two danes passed away within months of each other almost two years ago and it has been so lonely without them...just could not "eplace" them..now I just want to add more life...they bring so much to our lives...danes do not live long but while here what a blessing they are...

So glad to see you, Athena!!!!

I'm just copying and pasting what I just posted on the other thread, since the sentiment is the same.
Hello All, First, it looks like the great majority agree to keep the thread running. So, we'll do that.Secondly, there were a great number of reports, deletions, bans, etc. in the last days. It has been rather difficult to keep up with it all. I hadn't realized that Athena was still banned. That is cleared now. Some posts were not purposely re-instated. The system and I have been battling a bit, as our tech crew is also making some changes. Thanks for your patience. We are currently revamping the "report this post" feature, however the idea of doing away with it altogether is interesting. Definitely worth discussing! For those of you who have been around awhile, we started that to deal with the spam issues. Or, we make it that the newly registered people cannot report the posts, as someone suggested. All good points. Also a good suggestion to connect with the mods on the other boards, need be. Thanks for your constructive feedback.Melissa

Edited - just saw Melissa's post, above.

Thanks Melissa for taking our feelings into consideration. The report button might do just what it says, report and then leave it up to you guys to do the deleting if you feel it is needed or to remove the capability from new members might work also. Lets give something a try, maybe the easiest for you guys and see what happens. Let us know what you can work out and thanks so much for your efforts. This thread's content many not be about BC but it is very much because of BC and is necessary to so many.
-
This is just a suggestion so take it or leave it. It won't hurt my feelings.
Let's all ignore deletions until someone is banned and then report that to Melissa to get the person reinstated. Other than that let's just keep silent about deletions. What we are doing now is giving attention to emotionaly immature people who crave attention. Stop feeding the troll deleters.
Just some thoughts.
-
-
Melissa, thank you. I agree....do not feed the trolls.

Newt Gingrich to announce candidacy for President in May.
In response to a question, Gingrich told the group "corporate PACs can give $5,000 and obviously we'd be thrilled to have as many of them sign up as early as possible."
I hope he does run .. he'll lose again! And I hope there's a Tea Party candidate to split the republican votes.

He is unelectable. Period.
Saw an interesting piece in TheHill.com about Obama getting of the bench and tackling this budget.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/rep-mike-honda/war-internment-lessons-re_b_833920.html
Here is part of the article.
"Who would have thought that my early childhood experience in a Japanese-American internment camp during World War II would offer such useful insight, sixty-five years later, in determining the direction America is headed? In reflecting on Thursday's hearings on Muslim Americans, planned by Congressman Peter King (R-N.Y.), I feel like a mirror is being held up to my life, giving value to lessons learned as a child.
Make no mistake. Growing up in internment camp Amache in Colorado was no joy ride -- just look at the pictures. We were treated like cattle in those camps. Never mind the fact that we were born in America. Never mind the fact that we were patriotic Americans and law-abiding citizens. Never mind the fact that we were constructively contributing to the American economy. Despite all this, hundreds of thousands of Americans suddenly became the enemy at the height of the war, with no cause, no crime, and no constitutional protection. We look back now, as a nation, and we know this was the wrong reaction. We look back now and know that this was a result of "race prejudice, war hysteria and a failure of political leadership." We look back now and know that an entire ethnicity was said to be, and ultimately considered, the enemy. We know that internment occurred because few in Washington were brave enough to say "no."We know all this, and yet our country is now, within my lifetime, repeating the same mistakes from our past. The interned four-year old in me is crying out for a course correction so that we do not do to others what we did unjustly to countless Japanese-Americans."

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/03/09/indiana-women-abortions-breast-cancer_n_833388.html
Since we are back talking politics, this is not about anti or pro abortion - it's about the dissemination of false information to achieve a goal. I had an issue at my church a few years ago where they were handing out literature that connected abortion to breast cancer. I was furious that they would stoop so low to as to be fear mongers to dissuade women from having abortions and wrote a letter to my priest pointing out that the information they were relying upon was old and incorrect. He turned the letter over to the right to life chair person who responded to me. I had told them about a recent study of more than 60,000 women conducted in Europe that found no link. Her response to me was..."those women probably lied in the study." Really? All 60.000? I figured out who the audience was and just didn't bother responding to her. It just makes me furious that people are lying to scare women for a political agenda (although for some, it is a personal agenda, but it's an agenda just the same). As I pointed out to them, if there were a legitimate link between the two, wouldn't BCO tell us? Wouldn't it be listed as a risk factor? BCO's mission is to inform us and I am sure they would. Anyway, rant over - you may have to copy & paste the link.
