Here was my theoretical solution - I painted one wall in the kitchen with chalkboard paint.  Hard to tell that "Kale" is written on there.  The problem is, unless I'm facing the wall, it doesn't do much good.  Occassionally it catches me eye though.

Okay, we don't usually post household hints, but here's the chalkboard paint this Mod has used (different color), with more ideas from the manufacturer and a pic from their site.

In addition to function, I love the idea of chalkboard art and have made a board of collected chalk art on pinterest (above link).

Moderator- is that your list??  "Squeeze lemons" is causing me to scratch head :)  Yes, there are two colors...the blue/green and black.

    A wave-by.....

Hoping everyone is having a great day. Sad to read about Lautenberg. Another rarity (a great statesman) gone from the senate.

Note to condemned persons: When shopping, go all out. You deserve it. Just bought myself a ridiculously expensive pair of Chanel glasses. Don't want to die in cheap ones. Laughing Just as you don't want to get caught in non-matching underwear.

As for my liver, we are still waiting to see how/if Tamoxifen is working. Otherwise I would take someone's great advice and ask for radio frequency ablation before going with chemo. If Tamoxifen is working for other areas of my system I don't want to ditch it. I would prefer treatment that targets the liver without running interference in my system. See onc on Thursday. Until we know more, he wants to see me weekly (yikes!) Also, fingers crossed that my calcium levels spark no concern.

I told myself I would talk about this anymore - sorry!

Just discovered a great HBO series about two down and out musicians in NZ - very funny.

Mods, thanks for the tip. BTW, was the site having problems yesterday? I tried to log on and could not.

I love the chalkboard as well -- posted that along with a thanks to the mods ( different colors.....so I could have one of two boards in each room ) and it got into outer space somewhere.

Athena....glad to see you NO MATTER what you post --- I don't care what you say as long as it helps you.  You know, putting thoughts, ideas, dreams, or plans on paper often clarifies them and helps keep them sorted well.  I'm sure you don't want anyone to worry about you.....well, women were born to worry.  Most of us do it really well.  Just repeat after me.....I am appreciated si very much no matter what I post.

    By the way....love the wave-by -- immensely.

    Good article:

"College Republican National Committee Report Has Grim Findings for GOP"

"Here’s what many Millennials don’t like: the “closed-minded, racist, rigid, old-fashioned” GOP. That’s the finding of a sober study by the College Republican National Committee. Jon Favreau says it’s a wakeup call."

Hi, Athena, LOVELY to see your paw.  You wrote:Also, fingers crossed that my calcium levels spark no concern." Also have fingers crossed for you - I am terrified by how many friends with bc have had problems with PARATHYROID GLANDS - damn, I didn't even know what they were b4 bc.  Just another thing to keep checking.  And checking...hoping for BORING.

Thrilled about your new glasses - wonder if you went to my MOST favorite place for glasses in DC?  Kiss

ChalkBoard paint - fantastic - also, living in as wee a little place as I do, probably best to take a small piece of plywood to paint & stick up on cabinet, wall?  Just LOVE the idea.

From Add Info today on Acorn which was defunded three years ago.

In a bill (PDF) introduced by Rep. John Culberson (R-TX) on May 28th, language specifying the defunding of ACORN was included. In another bill (PDF), put forward the next day by Rep. John Carter (R-TX), the ban is extended even further.

There’s one small problem with those tenets of the two bills. ACORN doesn’t exist any longer, and hasn’t since it faced public slander and federal defunding (as well as the loss of major donors) in 2009, officially filing for bankruptcy on November 2, 2010.

ACORN’s history is a sad one. The Association of Community Organisations for Reform Now was a collection of local 501(c)3 charities and a national 501(c)4 umbrella lobbyist organization that advocated for ACORN’s goals on a higher level.

And what were their goals? Well, let’s look at what ACORN accomplished since they started in 1970 for a hint of what they were all about:

    • Helped borrowers connect to loan counselors, and helped raise awareness and organize against foreclosure rescue scams. This included declaring a class-action lawsuit against HSBC Finance Corporation (then called Household International and was one of the largest subprime lenders, targeting people that had a lower-than-good chance of paying back loans), which was settled for $72 million. The $72 million was placed into a foreclosure avoidance program in order to help Americans keep their homes.
    • Helped get living wage laws passed in 15 United States cities, including NYC, Denver and Chicago.
    • Helped build 1,850 homes, along with other forms of help and relief from ACORN groups around the nation, after the disaster in New Orleans caused by Hurricane Katrina.
    • Registered an estimated (according to Project Vote) 450,000 first-time voters, many of them low-income or minorities.*

*ACORN submitted, in all, over 1.3 million voter registration forms in 21 states. However, an eventual 400,000 were thrown out, the vast majority due to citizen duplication (someone forgetting they’re registered, or not knowing). Out of the remaining 900,000, half were changes of address or other updates, leaving 450,000 estimated first-time voters. Also, while ACORN did have problems with small-scale voter fraud, most cases were not for partisan reasons, and accusations by the right of “widespread fraud” (notably McCain during the 2008 presidential elections) have been debunked as false by several fact-checking organizations. In fact, many incidences of voter fraud committed by ACORN staff were discovered, publicized and disciplined by ACORN organizations.

They don’t sound so bad, right? And with, at one point, a membership spanning 100 cities and 500,000 people, the force of numbers meant ACORN was able to strongly advocate even when it couldn’t directly implement positive changes in the way middle- and low-income individuals and families are treated in the United States.

Enter James O’Keefe, smear artist and professional liar. O’Keefe, a conservative activist and videographer, was the person that released selectively edited “video journalism” in order to create the deception that low-level ACORN staff members were giving advice on how to avoid taxes or engage in prostitution. Although four independent investigations found ACORN completely innocent of any wrongdoing, the PR damage was done. ACORN was forced to disband by filing for a Chapter 7 liquidation, the most common type of bankruptcy, after losing funding.

In fact, the loss of federal funding was a point of contention in the legal world, because it came via a bill of attainder, meaning that the law was designed and implemented in order to punish an organization or person (in this case, ACORN) without a trial. In the end, the fact that only 10 percent of ACORN’s budget came from the federal government influenced the eventual decision by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, which was to declare that the amount of money lost by ACORN was not enough to constitute a punitive law, thus disqualifying it as a bill of attainder. However, it is fair at this point to say that the appeals court was wrong, because that revenue cut contributed to the bankruptcy and subsequent dissolving of the organization.

And yet, House Republicans still aren’t done beating this dead horse, as evidenced by The Huffington Post:

Struggling with the bad publicity and loss of federal funds, ACORN dissolved in early 2010. Just to be sure, however, Rep. John Culberson (R-Texas) included this language in a government funding bill introduced on May 28 of this year: “None of the funds made available in this Act may be distributed to the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) or its subsidiaries or successors.”

Section 545 of a bill put forward the next day by Rep. John Carter (R-Texas) delves still deeper into faux certainty, extending the funding ban to “any prior appropriations Act.”

In fact, ACORN has no subsidiaries, because it has not existed for three years. Neither bill defines “successors,” but the broad language of the original 2009 funding ban left little room for leeway, extending to “Any State chapter of ACORN registered with the Secretary of State’s office in that State,” “any organization that shares directors, employees, or independent contractors with ACORN,” and any organization that “employs” someone “indicted” for violations that ACORN was initially charged with.

“Is it too late to defund Saddam Hussein?” mocked Rep. Alan Grayson (D-Fla.).

Of course, the Republican defense that much of the language of appropriations bills is reused from year to year stands true, but it’s not that hard to update and edit legislation. Of course, with as many times as they’ve voted to repeal Obamacare, it’s not surprising that they don’t have time to do a quality job on, well, anything. Also, considering ACORN is already defunded, using “well we put that in there last time” doesn’t say the legislation was any less pointless — just that it’s been pointless longer.

OMG ... I've been mowing upper and lower fields the last couple of hours in an attempt to thwart the ticks.  No such luck.  I was cutting back some baby oaks and one fell on my shirt.  I can't repeat the language I used when I killed him.

Mr. Tim seems to think I enjoy mowing and he doesn't want to rob me of my pleasure.  He's a goofball.  I hate mowing.

Hope everyone is having a good afternoon.

Suzieq - the sweet man is sweeter by the day.

I ride with a body protector - sort of like a bullet-proof vest for riding.  The final addition to my safety armor would be an air vest (an air bag for riders).  It's worn over the body protector and inflates upon an unplanned dismount.  I've got to save my pennies for that one, though - it's $675.
