Athena, I am sure you were watching Flight of the Concords, reruns are still popular here - its set in NY story crazy kiwis trying to make it in the big city. They are very popular here and have gone on to write filmscores (The Muppets) as well as acting in the Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit etc. Very funny

    Have a great day.

Frankie Muniz's career is dead, Susan Rice's is alive.     from the American prospect today.

Fortunes can change fast—just ask Susan Rice. Nine months ago, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations was perfectly situated and considered next in line for secretary of State. Then, after attacks in Benghazi left four dead, including Ambassador Christopher Stevens, Rice found herself persona non grata

Her crime? Going on the Sunday morning talk show network to run through her understanding of the events as caused by a mob, rather than the work of terrorists. Republicans argued she was complicit in a cover-up to help the president’s re-election. Since then, an abundance of evidence has shown that Rice had almost nothing to do with the debate between the CIA and the State Department over how to characterize the attacks. But when Rice publicly rescinded her name from consideration for secretary of state, the GOP claimed victory.
But Rice’s prospects are suddenly looking up—way, way up. Obama announced today that he would be appointing her as his National Security Agency advisor. The position doesn’t require Senate approval, meaning Rice gets to avoid what would inevitably be a brutal set of hearings. The focus isn’t likely to be Libya, but Syria; Rice will likely back up the president’s reticence for more intervention.

Everyone supposedly loves a comeback story—but conservatives and Republicans who were responsible for Rice’s fall in the first place weren’t so pleased with the announcement. WaPo conservative columnist Jenifer Rubin called the appointment “an in-your-face insult to Congress.” Utah’s Republican Senator Jason Chaffetz tweeted that "Judgement is key to national security matters. That alone should disqualify Susan Rice from her appointment." Meanwhile, among celebrities, Frankie Muniz was up in arms, calling the appointment an #ObamaFail on Twitter. But then again, Muniz is probably waiting for his own comeback story to emerge.

Love how Ms. Rubin calls Susan Rice's appointment an "in your face insult to Congress".  I for one think a little karma is good for their soul.  They have been the ones on an extreme number of items to be insulting to hundreds and hundreds of people.  Just for one I could say the parents of the murdered Sandy Hook children, or some of the people waiting for help with Hurricane Sandy.  What hypocrites.

Hope you guys like the pics.  Some of them take my breath away and I want to share that feeling.  If you want me to tone it down, let me know!  I won't be offended.

Hi everybody! I'm with the bartender, who the heck is Freddie Muniz (or was it Frankie, either way I don't know)?

That last picture gave me that feeling, Blue. I thought of Renoir for just a nanosecond.

Anyone else ready to puke (with laughter or disgust) at conservatives accusing Obama of "court stacking." That brings lying to a new deminsion.

Me have same question as bartender and RR!

Athena, so good to see you up for discussing politics.  Yes, I agree with you -- I'm ready to throw rotten tomatoes at the droolers who are accusing President Obama (love juxtaposing those two words because it infuriates them to be reminded that he is our president!) of "court stacking."  Only the ignorant, the uneducated and the dishonest could accuse the President of court stacking by nominating three people to fill three vacancies (created because said droolers refuse to do their jobs).  They seem to fail to understand the Constitution (once again) and the fact that more than 50% of the people who voted (i.e., the people who cared enough about this country to cast a vote) elected Barack Obama twice.  I begin to think that there should be drug tests for Republican members of Congress, since they seem to be so far out of touch with basic reality.

And I haven't the faintest clue about who Freddie Muniz or Frankie Muniz is either.

Rather than drug tests, I propose IQ tests and background checks.  Goodbye, Bachmann and Issa!

Muniz is/was the star of "Malcolm in the Middle" and like all of you, when I read the article my first reaction was Frankie Who !!!!!  But due to Pres. Obama wanting to name Susan Rice as SofS Frankie pulled his support of the President.  I'm sure the crushed feeling everyone had is still there..................but yeah, right.  Frankie Who.

Oh, E -- Issa isn't stupid.  He is smart and evil.  However, I think the entire Texas delegation might fail IQ tests ... even if they got the answers.  Gohmert, Cruz and Cornyn aren't exactly the brightest bulbs in the chandelier.  Neither is the dolt who added an amendment to defund ACORN.  *SIGH*  ETA:  Yes, background checks.  Car thieves and firearms violators need not apply.

    Glad to see you kad2kar!

Heard some speculation tonite on the totally unreasonable disgust with Susan Rice on the part of Grumpy and Grumpy's lover and really all were dumbfounded as to the reason.  The best they could come up with is "they" wanted their bud, John Kerry, to get the SoS nomination.  They could just be misogynists.

Athena - I second, so nice to hear you discuss politics again.  I hope we can take that as a sign you are feeling a little better?  You are in my thoughts each and every day, as is this whole thread.  Sometimes I don't reply to every comment, but I think I almost catch up to most of them!! (It's very hard as this seems to be an East Coast Time Zone type thread and I'm West Coast :) ).

Blue I love your pictures and lately, I've really loved them.  There was a string a couple of days ago, or was it yesterday?, I think you had outdone yourself :)

I've been having thoughts of getting a dog (only thoughts, I think my pragmatic side will not be tempted) and for some reason I keep running into Border Collies this week.  Anybody have opinions on Border Collies?

E- I'm so happy that you found such a great guy, or that he found you!

Blue forgot to add my pictures thoughts....yours are wonderful, so the more the merrier.

Border collies....beautiful.  Young ones would likely need plenty of exercise as I think all the work dog types are full of energy.  Golden Retrievers mellow down after three or four years.....perhaps a Border Collie would too.

I would dearly love a Corgi, but don't think it will ever happen.  I already have my quota of dogs around here anyway.  Baby Boss is a Pomeranian, Minnie is a Min-Pin, Tina, Terrier mix, Poncho is Bishon-Poo, Chico is a Puggle and Georgie is a Papillion and Bill, Labrador Retriever.

We had a Border Collie/retriever mix.  Very friendly, happy, bouncy dog.  They excel at agility training I know.  They are a high energy breed and very smart.  You would definitely want a fenced yard.  And probably an older one who has mellowed a bit unless you have ways to work off that energy.  I think Bren's Maggie is a Border Collie? so she might have some real expert advice.

Glad to see you Athena.  I too don't care if you are roaring or purring or even snarling.  Just so you are here.

As for politics ... every time I think some of these people can't possible say anything stupider than they already have ... they do.

I grew up with border collies (females).  Incredibly smart and extremely protective and loyal.  Yes, they are full of energy (although spayed females not so much) and they love (actually , they really need) to have a job to do.

When I was growing up our neighbors had a border collie, Buddy.  One day my mom and neighbor were watching us play in the backyard.  They noticed Buddy would "work" us into the corner of the yard (there were 5 of us).  If some of us went off in another direction, she would work us until we were back in the "herd".  She was about 10 years old and very gentle.

Hope everyone is having a pleasant evening.  Good to see you again Athena.

My grandfather had two border collies and he loved then both very much. They were very devoted to him. I, too, am glad to see Athena posting! So much goes on here that I have a hard time keeping up. I loved the poster with the skeletons showing how we are all the same inside. Illinois Lady, loved the pledge to the world. Blue, I loved the photos of the little girl at the beach. So precious. Thinking of all of you and my Christian heart prays for all of you. However, I am not judgmental and really get upset that those who say they are Christians sometimes seem to be the most judgmental people on the earth. They make the rest of us look bad. Freedom of religion is a great thing .... we are free to worship or NOT .... and no one has the right to judge us for our beliefs. Time for me to TRY to sleep. Already took pills and they are beginning to work. I hate being awake at 4 a.m. Glenna
