RL (AKA HL
). Happy first "real" day of retirement!!! I know you're gonna love love love it!!4 months and 28 days for me. (I'm getting nervous...) - Also, we're supposed to find out today if our offer is accepted on the last house....
-
OOOOH, GG - fingers crossed tightly for an accepted offer! Yes, retirement is good so far. I slept in until 7:30, leisurely puttered around for a few hours until I went to the grocery and now I have returned. I think Sunnyflowers' "Saturday life" will work out beautifully! When people at work asked me what I was going to do (somewhat anxiously, since I had the reputation of being a high-energy workaholic), I replied heartily, "Whatever I want whenever I want to!" Yeppers!
CforC, I wondered about keeping track of the days, but since DH has not retired (has another 6 years to go), I think it will be easier. Plus, "The Newsroom" Season 2 starts on Sunday, July 14 and I know I will be keeping track of THAT day! :-D

Good afternoon everyone!
Just pulled another tick off my upper hip area. DAMMIT. I am really sick of these things. If it was higher up on my back I would have had to go over to my neighbor's house for the tick removal. Damn thing left a welt too. It will be a miracle if I don't end up with lyme disease.
GG ... keeping everything crossed that your offer on the house is accepted. Let us know as soon as you hear something.
Libby ... hope you're enjoying your first full day of retirement! Doesn't it feel weird to stay at home when everyone else is off to work on Monday morning? I bet your DH hated to go to work this morning with you still at home!
I had a quiet weekend, no work came in as of yet. arghhh.
Hope everyone is feeling well today.
hugs,
Bren

Hubby is going to look at another house - just in case... Still no word, so maybe won't hear until tomorrow, as it's now almost 3:00 PM back east.
I've gotta say that this is the first weekend we didn't go house hunting in three months and it was GLORIOUS.
Not only was the weather great, on Saturday we went wine tasting and Sunday we went out in the boat. Hubby fished (didn't even get a hint of a bite) and I napped (off and on) and read. Today, back at work. I haven't told anyone at work, yet that I'll be retiring this fall - though I would imagine that some people are fully aware that if we purchase a house with a bad commute that I won't be long for the enterprise. My commute (at almost 40 miles) is bad enough now, though I rarely (if ever) drive. I ride a commuter train - YAY for public transportation!!! -
GG - good luck on the house. Waiting is hell.
Bren - that sounds like a lot of ticks. Do you have dead wood or a lot of brush in your yard? I read somewhere that keeping short grass - or stones, around the house makes something of a barrier.
-
There are folks who say that many people who shop at Walmart can't afford to shop anywhere else, thus justifying the company paying low wages so that the company can provide low prices. What they seem to overlook is the fact that those low wages produce massive profits for Walmart, while the American taxpayer picks up the tab for those who are so underpaid they require food stamps. There's a name for companies like Walmart.......
-
What Walmart pays their employees is unconscionable - same goes for their Sam's Club wing of the enterprise.
-
Hi Alexandria,
I'm pretty sure I'm getting the ticks when I walk the dogs. I have cleared a couple of fields on my property, but there are still a few areas where you have to walk under the trees. I think they are falling out of the oaks onto my head.
I'll try to find some pics of my fields and paths to post. They're really cool to walk through, but the ticks are a problem. A rational person would probably quit walking their dogs on those paths!
hugs,
Bren
-

Alexandria .. this is one of my paths in the lower area of my property.

This is a pic of one of my lower fields. Used to be covered in weeds and blackberry vines, but I cleared it out a few years ago.

The above picture came in twice so I deleted one of them.
C for C....I was reading up about the Walmart graphic yesterday. I've known people who have refused from the day the WalMart store opened here not to go there and they have kept their word. I'm not that strong and also need the time I save using the store. I don't buy 'everything' there though. Likely never would. I hope Costco some day will open a store in the big shopping area we frequent that is about an hour away from here.....I could handle that.
Bren, I can see why it is hard to not go down your walking trails -- hard to have a park-like setting and ignore it. Looks very enjoyable for the dogs too. How long does your tick season last? Knock on wood....save for the one, I've not gotten more and hope to continue. It will be some time yet before they thin down really good.

Didn't get the house. Back to searching.
Bren, beautiful walk. Beautiful woods. Lucky dogs. -
GG, so sorry to hear that. Here's hoping perfection and everything going perfectly is what you find with the very next one. How frustrating...........hugs.
Jackie
-
Thanks, Jackie. One of the frustrations is that home prices seem to be rising. Good for the economy. Bad for us. I'm certain that we will find something sooner or later. Just want it to be sooner!
-
Bren - if you have XM radio, you can listen to some of their shows "on Demand." They have one on ticks, on "Doctor's Radio." It was an hour long program packed full of tick information. Beautiful property!!
GG - sorry you didn't get the house. I hope, atleast, you enjoy the looking part. The location of this one sounded so perfect.
HL - Day one - yeah! I can totally relate to doing whatever you want whenever you want. It is so liberating.
Had my 2 year overdue colonoscopy today. Glad that is over, though I feel no big air bubbles like the one I had 7 years ago. No cancer making things - yippee!
Our perfect, albeit droughty, spring has given way to summer here today. Instead of 72, it's now 83, and in the 90's by the end of the week. Not my thing, but better than snow, I guess.
-
Jackie -- I've only used the washroom at a Walmart! I don't criticize anyone for shopping there. Rather, I criticize the company for taking gross advantage of its employees. And, I think it's a crying shame that the minimum wage is so low that anyone with a fulltime job has to apply for food stamps.
GG -- Darn it! Another fruitless house offer. You must be getting so tired of going through the process.
Bren -- I hope that your gorgeous property makes up for those blasted ticks! Wish there was some adequate "tick-Off" that would work.
Kam -- Sounds as though your fartability has been lessened this time round
. -
So sorry for the house news, GG . . . it's got to be really frustrating.
Kam, the best part of a clear colonoscopy is not having to do it again for a good long while!
And HL . . . I'm vicariously enjoying your retirement.
(Looks to be a beautiful day here, sunny and cool, almost fall-like. Makes me wish *I* were retired!)
Linda
-
GG - so sorry about the house. You'll get the right one in time.
Bren - I wouldn't be able to resist walking my dogs through those woods either.
RL- Sounds like retirement is going well so far. Keep on enjoying.
-
Bren, I love, love your property. Ray and I would be gardening 24/7. I fucked up my stimulator yesterday. Couldn't remember the last setting so went up too high. This morning I couldn't even talk. Why don't I write things down....my memory is crappola! Trying to get it right this a.m.
Spent yesterday with DD and little Philip. What a well behaved baby, just grunts when he has to poo! Today I go to get approved for trans-wheels, a disability transportation service for Toronto. Have Mobility Plus up here but they don't do Toronto and some of my docs are there so its about time I looked into it.
Well better go get moving! Sorry I haven't addressed anyone, but you know where my heart is. I've taxed my typing ability with this post!
-
Ooooohhhhh...Blue - WRITE IT DOWN & POST it on the wall. Really. Have a wonderful day with DD & Philip.

GG - so sorry, didn't realize the housing market was getting so competitive so fast. When it was like that in 2005 in the Washington DC area, people who were looking in a particular neighborhood, put a "flyer" under each door, introducing themselves and what kind of house they wanted - don't know if it sparked enough interest for people to move, but might. The neighorhood where I rented a little house was very popular, and I got several of them under my front door.
So frustrating when you've done all the emotional/psychological things to get ready to MOVE ( NOW!) and the process is filled with obstacles - well, as you can tell, enough of us are "pollyannas" about this, feeling the RIGHT HOME is out there, and waiting for you.
Also VERY sympathetic about the frustration of the process...Bren - I was repotting plants on a brick patio the other day - and killed 3 HUGE ticks - not lyme little, but bigger than I've ever seen - yuck!
Seeing PS tomorrow to see what is involved in having these little implants removed - so want it to be done in her office, and not as hospital outpatient..can't wrap my pea brain around the fact I've been "wearing" them for almost 6 years - and how much I HATE the constricted feeling, like a vice around my chest sometimes. Just didn't want to do anything while I was doing my 5 years of Arimidex...that was enough to "handle."

Blue -- enjoy your day. I second Sun ---- put on your list of needful and excellent habits daily which control number you're on.
I likely should put on my list -- take some of your own excellent advice and have a standard place to WRITE things down. I'm sure I have all the info I'll ever need or want. Somewhere in this house on little scraps of paper are phone numbers, combinations, log in info, books I want to read, and assorted tons of other must haves.
Beautiful here yesterday and today. Even great temps --- we do already have a huge majority of our 'summer' bugs. Son-in-law was telling me about a spider that he saw on the dog fence with green eyes. I don't think it was a spider -- I have learned to not be too surprised by the bug population ( almost non-existent in So. California where I raised my son and daughter ) and they are learning now they are here. My daughter is going to hate it when the horse flies start up....guaranteed. She will be doing the windmill dance.
Hope you all have a fantastic day.

giggling with Jackie - speaking of bits of paper..oh, my...all over, and I live in a very VURRY small ( by choice) cabin. Have lived in very large homes ( well large for me, 5 bedrooms, etc) and this is just such FUN, with acres & acres of space, woods, but a very small living space - STILL, I manage to lose, misplace, forget where I've put, to a degree that makes me happily laugh at myself.
When I was having chemotherapy, and had all these "things to take" the days after, including giving myself the Nulasta injection: I posted a "chart" on a kitchen cabinet - and made check marks when I did something - and still have the imprints of x's ( very wonderful old pine cabinets) to remind me....SO, now I post on a piece of cardboard and use stickies, and STILL forget somethings I want to remember - so I figure, maybe they weren't so important - that's my story, and still so grateful doc offices CALL to remind of appts
