Oh yeah Riley..I think that putting the met's thing on your lab req had to do with insurance...I just recently had a Vit D blood test and it said something like "suspected Vit D deficientcy:..I knew dang well I wasn't deficient...(for some reason I can't spell that word today..chemo brain)..it freaked me out until I realized it was probably an insurance thing.
-
You guys are freakin' awesome - GO TIG GO! I love it!!
Titan - thank you, I appreciate the thoughts. Thankfully I am feeling MUCH better tonight, the pain is well controlled, whew!
Now if I could just control my appetite!
Heidi - hah! Good old equestrian humor.
Reilly - yup, it's an insurance thing. All of my scans have been "Re-Staging". It sucks to see that so baldly, but it gets the insurance to pay up. I'm sorry your doctor is such a putz, surely he has to know that cholesterol isn't as cut and dried as diet and a few drugs? My mom is tiny, watches what she eats like a hawk, takes meds, and still struggles to get her good numbers up! Exercise helps supposedly, but after the grist mill you've been through, your body is probably fighting everything! Hope you get your tire taken care of, and all goes well with the US. Keep us posted! -
Thanks, guys! Now I'm all sniffly again, but in a good way, ya know? It's just been an emotional day. Maybe my body saying it's time to vent and let it all out. The kitties have been extra snuggly today. Good litties!
-
mitymuffin- lol...YES, I usually clip wearing my glasses (not contacts), jeans, sweatshirt and no bra. I go from the barn to the washing machine and then to the shower (thank God no one can see in my windows). I go in looking like a porcupine and come out looking like... well... me (a lop-sided 50 something old dame). I've been known to wash dogs and cats in similar fashion... why waste the water?
It's hazardous duty though with cats....
-
Suze, I'm visualizing Tiger the Tiger bouncing all over your body kick the chit out of the bad cells! GO TIG GO!
Heidi *gigglesnort*
Painting, congrats on the house offer.
Riley, sorry about the jackhole. He's truly uneducated. I tried to talk my PCP out of cholesterol drugs, but he made me keep a food journal for 2 mo., I dropped 10 lbs and my cholesterol didn't drop a bit. Some people have a problem that diet won't control. I will say that walking did up my good cholesterol. As to the r/o mets, don't worry about it. My PCP said he now has a gold card to trump the insurance company with. Can order any test he wants now, just by using that designation.
Bak, rest girl, rest!!
Mitymuffin, I finally got a chance to read thru that study on alcohol (who knew that research class I complained about having to take would come in so handy) and I hope you won't mind a little tongue in cheek about something I noticed in it.
One of their findings was" one probable explanation may involve alcohol's effects on circulating
estrogen levels."
Well ladies, for those of us who are completely TN, estrogen doesn't play a role in our disease. I think we have a duty to help all our sister girlfriends to reduce their risk factors. I suggest we go to all their homes, and clear out all their alcohol for them. I know they won't be happy at first, but they'll know that we're just trying to help them. Once you're done, we'll decide where the party should be!
*pulls tongue out of cheek* -
kathrynn--what a fantastic suggestion. You care so much about others tee hee

Kathrynn - my kind of gal! *Cheers!* *Slainte!* Lets do our part to help our ER+ sisters
.

It really is the least we could do!
-
Hey ladies,
I'm finished chemo now and my onco recommended that I keep my port in about a year, I guess that's his normal recommendation. Does that sound right to you?
Thanks for any input.
-
Kathrynn, I love how you are looking out for others!!
I am feeling better today.. still sore from the SNB and port. but at least I got the tape and bandages off..and a nice hair wash..wheww
-
Kathyrnn, ikr? I had a few friends start asking the question "hey did you read that article.." and stopped them mid sentence *eyeroll* I think I also caught it was an 'observational' study, not a structured study even. I'm not underplaying anything, but it's a bit irritating. I wish any of it were that easy, or clear.

Wanted to pick your brains...I found a lump in my armpit on my breast cancer side. I called my primary care Dr (because I can always get right in). She felt that it was nothing to worry about but because it was on my breast cancer side she sent me for a mamo. Got right in for a mamo/ultrasound/needle bioposy and the dr said not to worry - does not think it is cancerous. She called back today to say that it is recommended that I get it removed. It had breast tissue in it with atypical cells. No cancer present - do not worry. I am waiting back to hear from my Surgeons and Oncoligist office....Why does eveything always happens on Fridays....When I first started this "journey" 2 years ago they were just going in to remove a "suspicous" area and then they found it to be cancerous. I had a double mastecomy and I realize that some breast tissue is left behind but, in my armpit???? My surgeon is getting me in on Tuesday. My oncologist does not do scans "unless you have a symtom" I wonder if I should insist on a scan "for peace of mind" Any thoughts from all of you would be great....Thanks
-
Just heard from my oncologist who said to wait till I get the lump removed and examined so we know what "it" is for sure. She also said when that is done, even if it turns out to be "nothing" , if I want a scan, she will order it for "peace of mind". She also went on to say that she got testing back for vitD levels for me and they were at 25. She would like them around 40 so she is putting me on a "mega dose" 50,000 iu taken once a week. Thanks for "listening"...
-
Yuck, I'm so sick of Vitamin D levels. My last one was 29, but I freely admit I wasn't taking it every day. The onc. gave me a script for the 50,000 ius a week, but I'm going to shred it. I've been through this with him, and he doesn't listen. It's D2, which doesn't seem to do much of anything for my levels. I'll just be more conscientious about taking my 2,000 ius/day of D3 and I'll bet anything my level will be in the 50-60 range. My onc. will pat himself on the back, no doubt, and I'll bite my tongue.
-
Kelley41,
I would think that the Surgeon and MO would decide on your BC treatment after removal and final pathology report of the lump.
-
Kelley41,
-
Mccrimmon-I kept my port for 4 months. When it was time to do exchange surgery, the PS needed to fix a divot that was on the same side as the port. So it was removed at the same time I had the exchange surgery. Onc was OK with it.
Hugs to you Kelley41. Please ley us know how things go for you.
Hello to everyone! Have a good weekend, all
Navy
-
Kelly - maybe it's a cyst. I had one under my armpit on the cancer side for a while and it all swelled up and turned into a boil a year ago today on Remembrance Day. Anyway, I was put on antibiotics and it eventually went down. Maybe your's is something like this. Hugs.

Suze: GO TIG GO!!
Kathrynn: too funny...now I'm picturing tigger jumping up and down on Suze!
question: Anyone take Marinol while on chemo? I had my 3rd round TAC Monday and it has been a nightmare...the bone pain has been rediculous, my stomach feels full of mud, my eye sight is blurry, I have a stuffy head and have been using hydrocodone to knock myself out and to get rid of the pain for just a little while. My onc suggested Marinol and I was going to do it and then the nurse practitioner wanted me to try kytril instead. It seems to be helping some with the nausea, although my stomach still feels grose ( ugghh...I can't thing either to spell) I'm thinking there has to be something better but hate to keep spending money on meds that won't help. Just wanted to know if anyone used Marinol, if it helped and if you had any negative side effects.
thanks
Lee Ann
-
Yeah Mitty..those alcohol studies are based on er pr positive BC's...not Tn's...not saying you should go out and binge..but hell..they don't know what causes TN cancers..but haven't heard anywhere that it is alcohol...
Lee Ann..I have never heard of Marinol...I took 1 pill of..something (I can't remember) the morning of of chemo then 1 more pill the day after and another the day after that...they also gave me something else to take if I felt any nausea (I can't spell either)..at all....being constipated just sucks...how about eating a couple of apples?
Sorry you are going through this Kelley..but your dr's don't seem to be concerned...you will probably want it OUT though...
-
Suze, Girl, if I could come and kick that f....kng Cancer out, I would do it, anything in the world. We don't want our Suze to be in pain and it makes me SO MAD, I swear that this shit has come into our lives. Go Tig Go, kick the shit out .... sorry about my language.
riley - my Vit D level is rising slowly but surely. I take 2 - 2000 iu D3 every night. Yesterday's blood test shows 36. Previously it was 30 (4 months back). At diagnosis, I think mine was 22. The brand I take is from Walmart, Spring Valley, 4000 iu daily.
-
Thanks Titan: Marinol is the synthetic pill form of marijuana..hense the hesitancy.
-
Hi girls hope everyone is well, still dealing with the fall out of the X aarrggg so very frustrating. I have my first follow up on wed feeling a bit nervous but I guess that is normal. I cant beleive its been 4 1/2 months since my last chemo and almost 2 months since last radiation wow time really does fly by doesnt it. here is an update on my hair situatio
n its finally looking like a style lol.
-
Kymn-You look FABULOUS! Good luck with your appointment.
-
Kymn... You look simply adorable! LOVE the hair! Sorry about the X situation... I lurke but I've read what's been going on. Hopefully things will straighten out soon for you on that front. Been through a divorce myself and I know how ugly things can become.
No news to report here... feeling great... hair super curly.. had my first trim a week ago. One of these days I'll update my photo.
If I don't check in before Thanksgiving... I hope everyone has a safe, happy one with lots of goodies to eat and hope those still going through chemo feel well enough to enjoy it. One of these days someone is going to post that they've found the cure. It will happen... keep the faith!

Ladies I need some advice from anyone who had a lumpectomy ( had mine Tuesday)
This morning I was putting on my makeup and kept hearing this gurgling noise. It took me a few minutes to figure out it was my boob! I know you can have some serous drainage in your wound, but my boob is sloshing like an old fashioned water bed every time I move, lol. I kid you not, you can hear it "slosh" every time I move. Anybody else have this problem (checked the post-op info, nothing about sloshing boobs) -
Kymn, you're gorgeous! You look great with a pixie cut.
Lee Ann, I had Marinol briefly at the start of my chemo. I got anemic, dehydrated and a tummy bug. The last thing I wanted to do was eat. It did seem to help, without me being too giggly. Just... contented, I think is a good way to put it. I smoked pot back in the day, and the Marinol was nothing like that feeling. Once I got my appetite back, I didn't even finish the script (25 pills). They reminded me of great big fish eggs - round and jelly soft, but beige.
Kathrynn - I had seromas on both sides and could poke them to make them jiggle, but never heard sloshing. You might need that tapped - does it hurt?
-
kathyrnn,
Seroma.
-
Kymn..you are one gorgeous lady! Your X doesn't deserve you at all.
I know losing our hair sucks but it is amazing to me how amazing we ALL look with short hair..my DH thinks short hair is sexy now...and one of our friends really liked my bald head..ha ha..funny stuff..
Most of the women I know who have had breast cancer still have short hair..I won't ever grow it long again...course I'm 52 now...don't wanna look witchy.
Wow Kathryn..that must have be interesting to say the least...did you call your nurse or doctor?
