Spring 2010 Get Together - GTA and Surrounding Area

hmm - I think Sugar77 is doing a jimdandy job of organizing this one. Just name the time and place. I liked that the last one was accessible by TTC so I could take the train there - now I have slightly more energy and could drive if that's the way it is.
-
Good suggestion Lassie11 about the TTC. Perhaps we should look at a location that's also close to 401/400 for out of towners. That brings to mind something around Yorkdale because it's on the Spadina Line on TTC and is close to 401/400/407 and not too far from QEW/427. Thoughts? Agreed? I'm from Mississauga so I'd have to research a bit to figure out what's near there, if you all like looking at something in that direction. Let me know.

I'm in for the Yorkdale area if its a day that I work. Otherwise I'm way up in Barrie and drive EVERY day down there.....sigh. I get Friday and Tuesdays off, so any other day except Wednesday (my late night to work) is good.
-
Yorkdale has the following restaurants - Casey's -Milestones- Moxie's - Pickle Barrel and rainforest cafe. Offhand, I cannot think of any other restaurants in the area.
-
I'm game for anywhere -- it's all far from Ottawa but I have a GPS and can find my way. For the date, any weekend is fine except the first weekend of April. Of course the majority rules, but it would be great if it's a Friday then I can continue on down to London to see a girlfriend for the weekend!!
-
I just need to know by mid month to book a day off for the following month. Otherwise, I am flexible. Well, at least my schedule is flexible!
-
So do the majority prefer a weekday or a weekend? Barbe, do you work on Saturday's if the majority end up preferring a weekend day? Let me know.
I'm good for either a week day or a weekend but since I'll be going through radiation in that time frame, I'll need to be later in the day as they are looking to have my treatments in the late morning.
I just got home from Credit Valley Hospital where I FINISHED chemo today. I'm so glad to be done...now just waiting to get this week and the upcoming yucky days over with!

I do work weekends but can get out of my cage for a period if need be. We had a Sunday get-together last summer that worked well. I just don't want to drive $$$ down on my day off (from Barrie) as I drive down 5 days a week. Also, I can't really do a dinner/evening meeting as I am exhausted at the end of the day and every ounce of energy I have left is used up to get me home!
There, I've done my whining...
-
Congrats Sherri..... WOO HOO!
-
Yes Sherri - congrats. That last chemo is a big event. Even though you feel crappy, you know that's the end of that kind of crappy. Be good to yourself.

I'm also looking forward to seeing everyone again plus adding all our new bc.org friends. I work during the week so prefer either a dinner or on the weekend. the first week of April is Passover so would be best to wait until the second week for those of us who observe Passover.
Yorkdale is great - the Pickle Barrel there is a good location. Last summer we met up at Vaughan Mills which also had good highway access but not subway ..... that was also a good spot especially for those who don't live in Toronto.
The restaurant at the Shoppes of Don Mills (Don Mills/Lawrence) called Glow is great and serves healthy food (menu by Rose Reisman) -- that's also a thought. Not far from highway but no subway access and probably not convenient for those who are driving far from Toronto.
-
hrf - you make some great suggestions. Let's plan on having it after Easter and Passover are observed. I will compile a post listing all who've indicated interested to keep the ball rolling. As I'm in the midst of recovering from my chemo this week, I will pick it up again in a day or two.
Sherri
-
Sherri -- keep the ball rolling for me too! I like the idea of Yorkdale; haven't been there since we moved here 5 years ago, and sometime in April sounds good.
Linda
-
Sign me up - the timing and the locations hrf mentioned are all good for me. I'm the one who mentioned TTC. That was more important last time when I wasn't quite people yet - now I can drive much more readily.
-
I may be able to come as well. I have to be in Toronto at PMH for appointments on the 6th, 7th & 9th of April and will be driving in.
-
Mantra,
We're at PMH as well. Do you mind if I ask who's your onc?
Thanks.
-
Leprechaun: My oncologist was at Sunnybrook but I only saw him once as I did not need chemo or radiation. I'm having surgery and reconstructive surgery at PMH, hence the trek to downtown Toronto for testing etc. At different points in my life I lived in Thornhill too. Started at Bayview & John. Moved to Bathurst & Steeles. Back to Don Mills & Steeles and then to Bathurst & Clark. Lots of moving!! Now I live out of town.
-
Mantra,
Wow, lots of action, indeed.
-
How about Saturday, April 10th?
If this date is good, do you prefer Pickle Barrel (Yorkdale) or Glow (Don Mills/Lawrence)?
Mantra - will you still be in town on the 10th?
Barbe - will this Saturday during the day work for you?
Please let me know your preferences and who will be coming and we can go from there.
Sherri
-
Lunch or dinner? Early dinner/late lunch? Avoid the crowds either way....
I can get out of my cage if I have enough warning. Saturdays are my busiest days though, for example I've sold $16,000 today! But I do want to see everyone again...
Edited to add, I've just pencilled it in!
-
Sat. April 10 works for me. I'm good with either location. I've entered the date in my calendar. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone again and meeting new friends
-
Sorry, Saturday is not a good day for me. Sometime during the week -- e.g. one of the days Barbe has off -- would work better (for me, that is, and probably Barbe
)..
Linda
-
If we do during the week then it has to be a dinner for me because I'm at work all day every day. Would a dinner during the week work for others?
-
Sat. April 10 is the only day in April that I'm booked!
-
If it's a lunch I'll drive down from Barrie on my day off, but not a dinner. I'm usually in bed by 8 pm (Fibromyalgia). If I'm already at work I'm usually a bag-of-shit at the end of the day....I'm a loser...sigh.
-
What about Saturday April 17th? Would a week later work better?
-
Hey.... it sounds fun.... Lizzie you could stay over at my place and leave for London next day if you want. I dont drive but can get WheelTrans... pencilling in April 17.... what time?

17th is good for me?
