Nats: Whoa! Glad you don't have a pony tail.
Ruth: Great WW picture. Sorry about the death of your friend's husband.
Patoo: Hope you get good results on your scan!
Scottie: I have to want and buy candy right before Halloween because I know I will eat it!
Kindergarten: Happy 1st Birthday to your grandchild! That's a milestone.
Outrunning: Glad your cording is getting better.
Hi all. It has been a gorgeous day - Carolina blue sky, low 70s, refreshing breeze. We decided to pack a picnic and go to Pilot Mountain State Park for the day. Hiked several miles of trails. And the smell - heavenly because it's autumn!
-
Haven't seen Badger here lately. Are you OK?
-
I emailed badger & she is okay. They sold their house, bought a new (and bigger) one,are in the process of moving, AND she has been super busy at work (sounds like she could use the rocks that natsfan doesn't throw).
Great picture yourself, Wonderland!
-
Thanks for the update, Ruth. Glad Badger is okay. Exciting that her house sold and she's bought a new one!
One more thing: I'm getting my flu shot next week.
-
-
Thanks for the reminder Ruth. Tell your husband he can rent himself out picking stone next spring. I am sure someone can use his skills!
I had planned on getting my flu shot with my mammogram (later today) but I still have a cough, so will do once that is gone. I have been under the weather all week which was really the pits with endless charts and data tables when all I wanted to do was sleep. When I say that finalizing my taxes was the easy task a couple of days ago, that will give you an idea.
No runs as dragging, but I have been doing my walking and weekday exercises.
Anyway, a glorious day, and I get to go into Seattle later which is always energizing for me. Walking up and then back down Capitol Hill counts as exercise. Planning the wine bar as a reward. I have my wine club bottles to pick up. Always fun to see what's included.
Hoping for a last batch of great tomatoes at the farmers market tomorrow. Still want to make Putanesca sauce. One of my seasonal faves, and didn't get to it this year. So good. I just need olives and tomatoes....have everything else. Plus, I need to use up cheese from the pesto operation.
Or I could do bolognese sauce with the wild mushrooms I bought last weekend. We shall see.
Anyway, great eating ahead and hence the need to get it in gear. - Claire

It looks like everyone is doing great!
Throw some exercise in for me. Just as my broken toe is better I have some upper respiratory thing that has kicked up my asthma. I am on Prednisone and albuteral and cold medicine with codeine. I have not gotten out to walk since Monday.
Tomorrow is our Relay for Life with my school team. Really hoping I am better as I am the team captain and responsible for everything...
-
Hope you guys feel better, Claire and Ginger!
Went to yoga this morning. At the end, for the final relaxation, the instruction played a DVD that sounded like a babbling brook......which made me think of how bad I had to go to the bathroom.....and when I tried to banish that thought, I began to laugh hysterically.....which I tried to mask by pretending to be coughing......which made me laugh harder......not exactly a Zen moment!
-
Hoping for a quick recovery, Ginger and Claire.
Ruth, here's some history for you. We walked at low tide to this island fort in the southwest of France. It was the last fortification ordered by Louis XIV against the Brits and was bombed by the Germans in WWII. They rebuilt it later with private funds. I wanted to go to a bunker museum in La Rochelle but no one wanted to come with me.
Worked out with DD at the gym.
-
Wow Heidi, I (wimp that I am) would have been afraid that the tide would have come in and I could not walk back off the island. My swimming is not good enough to make it across.
1 hour water aerobics followed by 4-mile walk with Leslie Sansone group. May head over to pool later (we're still in 80's here).
-
Outrunning, Are you getting the thing for your hand too, in addition to the sleeve? I have heard that is needed. ?? I want to get one too as Inwill be flying and do not want lymphodema!
Anyone flown over a 5 hour flight without a sleeve?
-
What is Leslie Sansone group? A walking group?
-
It is a DVD. She has several and yes, it is walking (with knee lifts, leg lifts, arm lifts) with or without weights. A great workout. You can do 1 mile, 2 miles, up to 5 miles. Easy to do.
I have flown many times since node removal, 5 hours (ruthbru and hbcheryl made me do it on our CA adventure this year) and even when I went to Israel in 2013 that was 10 hours. That is not to say you should not wear a sleeve - think I was just clueless!
-
I don't wear a sleeve either. If you have LE, then, of course, you should. If you don't, it is debatable (because if you don't do it correctly you can do more harm than good and I know it should never be worn without a gauntlet). What I do is: stay really, really hydrated, move my arm around a lot (make fists etc.), get up (to go to the bathroom after all that hydration) and move around the cabin a couple times during the night, wear loose fitting clothes, put my rings on the other hand and not put them back on that hand of at least a couple hours after landing (or don't wear them at all). I often check my bags to I don't have to deal with all the lifting & dragging that carry-ons involved. I fly quite often and haven't had any problems (so far, knock on wood).
-
I was surprised she suggested it at all. I'm only showing a tiny bit of swelling and that's across my chest actually. But my hands always swell when I fly. I try to remember to take my rings off for every flight otherwise they're stuck on for at least a day.
-
Claire and Ginger sending healing vibes. Ds has asthma and ends up on steroids everytime he gets a sinus infection or chest cold. Then he gave his infection to both dh and I. We are now all on the mend.
Had a good PT session with Gental massage and am now at the gym. Hoping I'll be able to do some arms weights this time. Only 2 lbs but I'm just going to have to be patient.
Wonderland. . .nice hiking pix. We are going to the Okefenokee for Thanksgiving. Lots of photography and hiking.
Heidi love the fort pix. I wish I had my current camera when I was last in England and Europe. I love photographing historical places, especially that old.

10/16- went to one of my favorite yoga classes today for 90 minutes that was all about hip openers. It was amazing!
-
i was also clueless about flying and lymphodema. I've only flown a few hours and it was 2.5years after my surgery. Luckily no problems. But I'm thinking better safe than sorry and especially if a professional recommends it.
Have to get my flu shot too. Maybe this weekend
Pretty pictures wonderland and Heidi
Went at lunch to the fitness center we were a little early for class so we did the elliptical for 10 minutes and then had yoga class for 45 Ruth I have a similar problem staying zen In class as I'm teetering sideways on one foot trying to grab my ankle behind me
-
Heidi, I would have LOVED to go to the bunker museum with you!!!!!!!!
-
Thanks for the well wishes.
I actually am feeling better as was literally running late, which meant RUNNING up all of Capitol Hill to my mammogram appointment. They were a bit late too, so all was well and I did the deed. I told the lady doing the mammogram that she should be glad I was wearing a touch of the deo (which I promptly removed), as I was quite glowing (not to mention a bit breathless) as I charged in the door.
From then I walked...this time downhill....the two or so miles to the wine bar. Saw one of the regulars who managed to break her shoulder in a fall a couple of months ago, and then had complications. She looked a shadow of her usual self, so am a bit worried about her. I picked up my Q3 wine shipment which should be fun to explore once my sense of taste returns.
Coming home, I picked up some Pad Thai across the street which was only OK. Next time, I bite the bullet and make tuna salad. However, I was spared cooking and was really ready for bed by then.
Hoping to get in a bicycle ride later, but nothing too strenuous.
I have a ton of work still waiting so an overall dull time in store for me. More fun times ahead. Have a wonderful weekend everyone! - Claire
-
2 hours bowling followed by 2 hours running in the pool.
Night sculpted friends.
-
Pattoo, you are amazing!!!
Hubby and took a long walk this morning, and then took our granddaughter to the park!! Many steps and stairs today!!
Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!!
-
Walk about the Botanical Gardens before soccer game. Not alot of exercise but still managed 2.6 miles today.Does photographing count? It was BC Awareness day at dd's school and her team wore pink laces in honor. Dd almost scored a goal for me.
Scottie
-
Busy day, only time for a quick half hour walk.
Happy Weekend!
-
Made it to Relay for Life and walked the survivor lap. It was quite emotional because I lost a friend last week who was a 51 yr cancer survivor and a coworker who was a longtime survivor earlier this year.
I managed to get in 10,000 steps but then I had to leave because I could not get the coughing under control. It was very cold and windy!
-
Ginger: Sorry about your friend and coworker. Hope you can some relief for your cough soon.
Scottie: Nice action shots!
Another beautiful day. Walked my friend's dog for a mile this afternoon (stop, smell, pee, go, repeat). Then did my fast walk/run early this evening.
I have now (with help from dd) painted/decorated 67 pumpkins!
-
ginger sorry. So hard.
Wonderland You. Are. Awesome.
DH is out of town. Had to miss th block party to run. It was the only time I could get someone to watch the kids. Did 6.25 mi plus walking to the far end of the street a couple times for th block party and other such = over 15000 steps today. Compared to a couple days in the office this week when I barely moved.
-
10/17- I have a super sore butt today from that yoga class yesterday where we did 90 minutes of hip openers (yeeowza). Everything in my hip area is sore, including my glutious maximi. Went to the pool tonight to soak in the hot tub and swam 20 laps. I feel better!
-
Jazzygirl, the hot tub sure fixes sore muscles!! Hubby and I have been using it a lot lately!! And 20 laps, good for you!!
-
(((Ginger))))
Scottie, great action pictures indeed. Yay for strong girls. They look absolutely amazing. I tried but could never get DD to join a team sports. Wonderland, kudos on painting all those pumpkins. Must be a record. Wow on 20 laps with a sore hip, Jazzygirl.
Workout with DD and then Zumba.
